To enhance the cleaning efficiency of the ultrafiltration membrane for wastewater, nano spinel CoFe 2 O 4 was synthesized on diatomite via hydrothermal reaction strategy to prepare nano spinel CoFe 2 O 4 deposited diatomite (CF/Dt) particles for activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS), and then used as a functional layer to form CF/Dtcatalytic separation membrane (CF/Dt-M) to remove small and medium molecular pollutants by precise separation and catalytical oxidation . CF/Dt particles and CF/Dt-M were characterized by SEM. The CF/Dt-M was used to deeply clean simulated wastewater containing oil and rhodamine B for investigating its separation and catalytic oxidation performances. The results show that nano spinel CoFe 2 O 4 particles with diameter of 20–100 nm are deposited on the surface of diatomite, and the thickness of CF/Dt-M functional layer is 44 μm. After cleaning simulated wastewater using CF/Dt-M, concentration of oil, RhB and COD in permeate reduces from 57 mg L −1 , 20 mg L −1 , 231 mg·L −1 to 8 mg·L −1 , 0 mg L −1 and 47 mg L −1 , respectively. Water yield of CF/Dt-M is 658 L m −2 h −1 under 0.06 MPa. Nano spinel CoFe 2 O 4 in CF/Dt-M can efficiently activate a small amount of PMS to release a lot of SO 4 •- , making CF/Dt-M perform properties of precise separation and catalytic oxidation. Therefore, CF/Dt-M is a promising candidate extensively applied for cleaning wastewater.

Graphical Anode materials with a wide operating temperature are highly desirable for lithium-ion batteries. A CoFe 2 O 4 anode with a hierarchical cauliflower-like structure (see figure) is presented that shows high specific capacities of 907.5 and 664.5 mAh g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 at 0 and −25 °C. The full-cell battery assembled using cl-CoFe 2 O 4 as the anode and commercial LiFePO 4 as the cathode displays a high capacity of 612.7 mAh g −1 at 0.3 A g −1 after 140 cycles and can be used to successfully turn on an LED light. Binary transition-metal oxides (BTMOs) with hierarchical micro–nano-structures have attracted great interest as potential anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Herein, we report the fabrication of hierarchical cauliflower-like CoFe 2 O 4 (cl-CoFe 2 O 4 ) via a facile room-temperature co-precipitation method followed by post-synthetic annealing. The obtained cauliflower structure is constructed by the assembly of microrods, which themselves are composed of small nanoparticles. Such hierarchical micro–nano-structure can promote fast ion transport and stable electrode–electrolyte interfaces. As a result, the cl-CoFe 2 O 4 can deliver a high specific capacity (1019.9 mAh g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 ), excellent rate capability (626.0 mAh g −1 at 5 A g −1 ), and good cyclability (675.4 mAh g −1 at 4 A g −1 for over 400 cycles) as an anode material for LIBs. Even at low temperatures of 0 °C and −25 °C, the cl-CoFe 2 O 4 anode can deliver high capacities of 907.5 and 664.5 mAh g −1 at 100 mA g −1 , respectively, indicating its wide operating temperature. More importantly, the full-cell assembled with a commercial LiFePO 4 cathode exhibits a high rate performance (214.2 mAh g −1 at 5000 mA g −1 ) and an impressive cycling performance (612.7 mAh g −1 over 140 cycles at 300 mA g −1 ) in the voltage range of 0.5–3.6 V. Kinetic analysis reveals that the electrochemical performance of cl-CoFe 2 O 4 is dominated by pseudocapacitive behavior, leading to fast Li + insertion/extraction and good cycling life.

Ferrite nanoparticles, known for their enzyme-like catalytic activity, have gained significant attention as innovative nanozymes for various catalysis medicine applications. However, the relationship between catalytic activity and ultrasmall ferrite nanoparticle composition remains unclear, which hinders the development of ferrite-based nanozymes with high catalytic performance. Here, we have synthesized a series of ultrasmall ferrite nanozymes for studying the composition dependent peroxidase (POD)-like activity. Initially, the size and surface charge were regulated to assess their impact on POD-like activity. The results indicate that smaller ferrite nanozymes with a negative charge exhibited superior activity when using TMB as the substrate. Subsequently, we examined the ultrasmall ferrite nanozymes with the same size and surface charge but different compositions (CoFe2O4, MnFe2O4, and γ-Fe2O3), and comprehensively investigated the effect of composition on POD-like activity. The results show that the POD-like activity is closely related to the composition of the ultrasmall ferrite nanozymes and the activity order towards TMB is found to be CoFe2O4 > MnFe2O4 > γ-Fe2O3. By comparing the catalytic performance of nanoparticles with different compositions, the influence of composition on their activity are elucidated. Furthermore, we determined that the optimal pH and temperature for the POD-like catalytic activity of ultrasmall CoFe2O4 nanozyme were pH=4-4.5 and 30 oC. Under these optimal catalytic conditions, the ultrasmall CoFe2O4 nanozymes exhibited a higher POD-like activity, resulting in increased tumor cell staining intensity. This suggests that ultrasmall CoFe2O4 nanozymes may serve as a viable alternative to horseradish peroxidase for immunohistochemical staining applications. This work provides experimental evidence for designing efficient ultrasmall ferrite catalysts for nanozyme catalysis medicine applications.

In this study, electrochemical (EC G-G : graphite anode and cathode, EC I-G : iron anode and graphite cathode) enhanced heterogeneous activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) by CoFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles for the degradation of norfloxacin (NOR) in water was investigated. Although a higher NOR removal efficiency was achieved in EC I-G /CoFe 2 O 4 /PMS system, the generation of Fe 3+ had resulted in the deposition of iron mud and affect the recovery of CoFe 2 O 4 . Under the optimum reaction conditions of CoFe 2 O 4 /PMS system, the final removal efficiency of NOR did not show significant difference in EC G-G /CoFe 2 O 4 /PMS system (96.0%) and CoFe 2 O 4 /PMS system (95.5%), but the value of apparent rate constant significantly increased in EC G-G /CoFe 2 O 4 /PMS system (0.21 min −1 ) compared with CoFe 2 O 4 /PMS system (0.11 min −1 ). Similar NOR degradation pathways were obtained in these two systems, and the TOC removal efficiency in EC G-G /CoFe 2 O 4 /PMS system (28.8%) is almost as low as CoFe 2 O 4 /PMS system (26.0%). Therefore, it can be proposed that the applied electric field through active electrodes can accelerate the reaction of heterogeneous catalytic oxidation, but does not participate much in NOR degradation. However, the TOC removal efficiency (30 min) could be reached 68.7% as the mass ratio of PMS to CoFe 2 O 4 increased to 5:1 (250 mg L −1 : 50 mg L −1 ). The EC G-G /CoFe 2 O 4 /PMS system is a promising low-cost technique for efficient mineralization of antibiotics in wastewater.

Spinel oxides have attracted widespread interest for electrocatalytic applications owing to their unique crystal structure and properties. The surface structure of spinel oxides significantly influences the electrocatalytic performance of spinel oxides. Herein, we report a Li reduction strategy that can quickly tune the surface structure of CoFe2O4 (CFO) nanoparticles and optimize its electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance. Results show that a large number of defective domains have been successfully introduced at the surface of CFO nanopowders after Li reduction treatment. The defective CFO nanoparticles demonstrate significantly improved electrocatalytic OER activity. The OER potential observed a negative shift from 1.605 to 1.513 V at 10 mA cm–2, whereas the Tafel slope is greatly decreased to 42.1 mV dec–1 after 4 wt % Li reduction treatment. This efficient Li reduction strategy can also be applied to engineer the surface defect structure of other material systems and broaden their applications.

MoS 2 thin nanosheets decorated with CoFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized via a simple hydrothermal method . The nanocomposites are characterized by XRD , TEM , HRTEM, BET, XPS , UV–Vis DRS, PL and magnetic property analysis. The Z-scheme mechanism at the interface of MoS 2 and CoFe 2 O 4 is formed. When the mass ratio of MoS 2 and CoFe 2 O 4 is 1:3, the MoS 2 /CoFe 2 O 4 nanocomposites present excellent photocatalytic performance. The degradation rate of rhodamine B (RhB) and congo red (CR) is 93.80% and 94.43% in 90 and 50 min, respectively, under visible light irradiation. The highly photocatalytic activity could be mainly ascribed to the formed Z-scheme mechanism which facilitates the separation of photoinduced electron-hole pairs. Besides, the MoS 2 thin nanosheets not only provide the most active sites for photocatalytic reactions, but also act as the backing material for CoFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles to effectively disperse and avoid the magnetic aggregation. Moreover, the MoS 2 /CoFe 2 O 4 nanocomposites present a good recyclability and the degradation rate of RhB and CR is still beyond 82% after seven runs. In addition, the nanocomposites can be easily separated by an external magnet.

In this work, nanoparticles of Co1−xRexFe2O4and CoFe2−xRexO4(0 ≤ x ≤ 0.05) were synthesized by the sol-gel method. The Rietveld refinement analysis of XRD and Raman data revealed that all of the prepared samples were single phase with a cubic spinel-type structure. With the substitution of Re, the lattice parameters were slightly increased, and Raman spectra peak positions corresponding to the movement of the tetrahedral sublattice shifted to a higher energy position. Furthermore, Raman spectra showed the splitting of T2gmode into branches, indicating the presence of different cations at crystallographic A- and B-sites. The SEM micrograph confirms that surface Re exchange changes the coordination environment of metals and induces Fe-site structure distortion, thereby revealing more active sites for reactions and indicating the bulk sample’s porous and agglomerated morphology. The vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) results demonstrated that the synthesized nanoparticles of all samples were ferromagnetic across the entire temperature range of 300–4 K. The estimated magnetic parameters, such as the saturation magnetization, remanent magnetization, coercivity, blocking temperature (TB), and magnetic anisotropy, were found to reduce for the Co-site doping with the increasing doping ratio of Re, while in the Fe site, they enhanced with the increasing doping ratio. The ZFC-FC magnetization curve revealed the presence of spin-glass-like behavior due to the strong dipole–dipole interactions in these ferrite nanoparticles over the whole temperature range. Finally, the dielectric constant (εr′) and dielectric loss (tanδ) were sharply enhanced at low frequencies, while the AC conductivity increased at high frequencies. The sharp increases at high temperatures are explained by enhancing the barrier for charge mobility at grain boundaries, suggesting that samples were highly resistive. Interestingly, these parameters (εr′,tanδ) were found to be higher for the Fe-site doping with the increasing Re doping ratio compared with the Co site.

Efficient removal of tetracycline (TC) from antibiotic-contaminated wastewater remains a significant challenge. In this study, a nitrogen-doped carbon modified cobalt ferrite (C@CoFe2O4, CF) composite was synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal method, and its adsorption–catalysis dual-function performance was systematically evaluated. Structural characterization revealed that CoFe2O4nanoparticles were locally encapsulated by an N-doped carbonaceous layer, providing a high specific surface area and abundant nitrogen-containing active sites. Under optimized conditions, the CF-3/PMS system achieved 93.44% TC removal within 45 min, while CF-3 exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity of 486.5 mg·g−1. Radical quenching experiments suggested that singlet oxygen (1O2) and superoxide radicals (O2•−) played major roles in TC oxidation, while sulfate radicals (SO4•−) and hydroxyl radicals (HO•) also contributed, indicating the coexistence of radical and non-radical oxidation pathways. TC adsorption was driven by surface complexation, π–π electron donor–acceptor interactions, and hydrogen bonding. The enhanced TC removal performance may arise from the cooperative contributions of N-containing carbon sites, accessible Co/Fe-containing regions, and interfacial electronic interactions, which promote TC enrichment and PMS-mediated oxidation. This work provides a promising strategy for designing bifunctional materials for antibiotic wastewater treatment.

Manganese dioxide (MnO 2 ) has attracted considerable interest in electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption owing to its high dielectric loss capability and morphological diversity. However, its practical application is largely restricted by poor impedance mismatch and a single loss mechanism. In this work, a series of CoFe 2 O 4 /MnO 2 composites were constructed via a two-step hydrothermal method, wherein MnO 2 nanowires served as the dielectric scaffold and CoFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles were introduced as magnetic modifiers to modulate the electromagnetic parameters and optimize impedance matching. The optimized composite achieves a minimum reflection loss of −50.87 dB at a thickness of 2.5 mm and a maximum effective absorption bandwidth of 6.41 GHz. The enhanced absorption performance is primarily attributed to the strong conduction loss derived from the three-dimensional MnO 2 conductive network, the interfacial polarization induced by the abundant CoFe 2 O 4 /MnO 2 heterojunctions, and the dipolar polarization contributed by oxygen vacancies. This work demonstrates that rational incorporation of magnetic components into a MnO 2 matrix provides a promising strategy for the design and development of high-performance EMW absorbers.

As a ferrite material with excellent magnetic and dielectric properties, CoFe2O4is in high demand for applications in areas such as wave absorption and magnetic storage. Effective regulation of its nanoscale morphology is central to improving application performance. Conventional synthesis methods often face challenges including poor particle dispersion and irregular morphology, which limit further optimization of material properties. In this study, a combined approach of microwave hydrothermal synthesis and annealing was employed to systematically investigate the effects of hydrothermal temperature, reaction time, and annealing parameters on the morphology and properties of CoFe2O4. The samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and other techniques. Experimental results show that process parameters exert a notable influence on the crystallinity, particle dispersibility, magnetic and wave-absorbing properties of CoFe2O4: the sample prepared by microwave hydrothermal treatment at 75 °C for 30 min exhibits relatively better wave-absorbing performance, with a minimum reflection loss of less than −30 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth covering 8~16 GHz; the sample treated at 100 °C for 15 min shows a more balanced magnetic performance, with the saturation magnetization approaching 60 emu/g. The quantitative structure–property relationships of pure-phase CoFe2O4across microwave hydrothermal and post-annealing processes, and achieve stable, reproducible performance enhancements under optimized mild conditions. These results supplement key experimental data for the low-temperature preparation of CoFe2O4and establish a practical, energy-efficient parameter framework for future structural design and process optimization of this important magnetic material.

Transition metal-based non-homogeneous materials have excellent activation properties for persulfates (peroxymonosulfate and peroxydisulfate, abbreviated as PMS and PDS). In this study, FeCo-CoFe 2 O 4 (FC-CFO) biphasic fibers were prepared using the electrospinning technique and a stepwise heat-treatment. The prepared fibers possessed magnetic separation properties (Ms = 91.7 emu/g) and achieved a 93.8 % degradation efficiency of norfloxacin (NFX) in 10 min. Quenching experiment, ESR spectrum, and intermediate product revealed that radical •SO 4 − and non-radical 1 O 2 species made major contribution to the FC-CF-500/PMS/NFX system. XPS spectrum and ESR spectrum of oxygen vacancy suggested the abundant oxygen vacancies generated in FC-CFO-500 fibers which could trigger the generation of 1 O 2 . Those findings may demonstrate a reference preparation method of electrospinning nanofibers with an improved PMS activation ability.
