Using 1-ethyl-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) as catalyst, the natural polymer material corn starch (St) was modified by cysteine (Cy) to obtain a new flocculant cysteine-starch (Cy-St). The conditions of flocculation treatment of Pb(Ⅱ) wastewater were optimized by single-factor experiment and response surface experiment. The flocculant and floc were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and floc fractal dimension analysis. The effect of the coexistence of common substances on the performance of Cy-St flocculation for Pb(Ⅱ) removal was investigated. The results show that the flocculant dosage is 295 mg/L, the rapid stirring time is 4 min, speed is 200 r/min, the slow stirring time is 30 min, speed is 60 r/min, the wastewater pH=5.13, and the maximum removal rate can reach 98.03%. Various functional groups such as -SH, -NH 2 , -COOH may play a role in the flocculation process, flocs also have good sedimentation performance. Flocculant Cy-St has good anti-interference to Na + , K + , Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , SO 4 2- , turbidity, and sodium citrate, while CO 3 2- and EDTA-2Na will reduce the performance of Pb(Ⅱ) removal by flocculation.

Abstract Tin−lead (Sn−Pb) mixed perovskites have emerged as promising candidates for near-infrared photodetection owing to their narrow bandgaps and outstanding optoelectronic properties. However, the facile oxidation of Sn2+ and the high defect density within the perovskite films severely limit the detection sensitivity and environmental stability of the resulting devices. Herein, we propose a combined modification strategy integrating DMPU-based solvent engineering with guanidinosuccinic acid (GSA) additive engineering to improve the crystallization quality and surface chemical stability of Sn−Pb perovskite films. Mechanistic insights indicate that the strong Lewis base DMPU effectively regulates the crystallization kinetics through coordination with inorganic components in the precursor, yielding compact and smooth films. Meanwhile, GSA molecules introduce strong coordination with undercoordinated surface ions through their functional groups, suppressing the oxidation of Sn2+ to Sn4+. Consecutively, the modified photodetectors exhibit superior electrical and photoresponse performance. At zero bias, the optimized device yields a low dark current density of 1.49 × 10−9 A cm−2, a broad spectral response from 350 to 850 nm, a peak responsivity of 0.362 A W−1 at 830 nm, and a specific detectivity of 1.28 × 1012 Jones. In addition, the device shows an expanded linear dynamic range of 89 dB and fast response/recovery times of 86/112 μs. Stability tests further demonstrate that the unencapsulated device retains 80% and 78% of its initial performance after being maintained in the dark under nitrogen at 85 °C for 700 h and stored in the dark in a nitrogen-filled glovebox at 25 ± 2 °C for 2500 h, respectively. This work provides an effective strategy for developing high-performance near-infrared perovskite photodetectors.

The realization of robust magnetoelectric (ME) coupling at room temperature in polycrystalline materials remains a pivotal challenge for practical applications. In this work, we propose and validate a novel A-site engineering strategy in Y-type hexaferrites, using Pb 2+ doping to simultaneously address the interrelated issues of low operational temperature and high leakage currents. We synthesize a series of polycrystalline ceramics with the composition Ba 1- x Pb x SrCo 2 Fe 11.2 Al 0.8 O 22 ( x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15) via a conventional solid-state reaction route. Pb 2+ doping effectively stabilizes the non-collinear alternating longitudinal conical (ALC) magnetic phase, raising its transition temperature to the proper-screw phase from 300 K to 330 K. Concurrently, PbO acts as a sintering aid, significantly enhancing the ceramic density and grain size, which leads to an intrinsic increase in electrical resistivity. For the optimal composition ( x = 0.1), we achieve an electric polarization of 16 μC/m 2 and a direct ME coefficient ( α H ) of -518 ps/m at 300 K, with P and α H increasing to 29.2 μC/m 2 and -1887 ps/m at 200 K. Moreover, the material exhibits repeatable electric polarization switching driven by low magnetic fields and clear electric-field modulation of magnetization at room temperature. Crucially, these pronounced ME effects are obtained without the need for stringent post-synthesis oxygen annealing treatments. Our results demonstrate that A-site doping with Pb 2+ provides an effective route to engineer both the magnetic phase stability and the electrical microstructure in Y-type hexaferrites, offering a promising pathway toward viable room-temperature ME devices.

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were treated by reflux oxidation in a mixture (HNO 3 and H 2 SO 4 ), hydroxyl (–OH) and carboxyl (–COOH) functional groups were introduced on the surface of MWCNTs to obtain the Oxidized-MWCNTs (OMWCNTs). OMWCNTs were used as adsorbent to removal of Pb(II) from wastewater. The effects of contact time, initial concentration of Pb(II), OMWCNTs dosage, pH and coexisting ions (K + , Na + , Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ ) on the adsorption and removal of Pb(II) by OMWCNTs were systematically studied. The adsorption of Pb(II) by OMWCNTs could reach equilibrium in 10 min. The pH > 5 is conductive to the adsorption of Pb(II) by OMWCNTs. The coexisting ions (K + , Na + , Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ ) had almost no effect on the adsorption of Pb(II) by OMWCNTs. The results showed that the isothermal data fit the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models. The maximum adsorption capacity was 558.66 mg/g for Pb(II) from Langmuir isotherm. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model could well describe the adsorption process of Pb(II).

Lithium ceramics are regarded as potential candidates for tritium breeding in fusion reactors. Lead (Pb) was added to the ceramic to improve the strength and tritium release properties. The Li 2 TiO 3 -0.5Li 4 SiO 4 –Pb ceramic powders with the Pb contents of 5 wt% and 20 wt% were prepared by microwave-induced solution combustion synthesis . It was confirmed that the Pb was in the form of the Li 2 PbO 3 phase in the powders. The Li 2 TiO 3 , Li 4 SiO 4 , and Li 2 PbO 3 crystallites were composited at nanoscale level, which was confirmed by the transmission electron microscopy (TEM). During high-temperature sintering, the Li 2 PbO 3 was transformed into PbO, which facilitated the densification process at low temperatures. The chemical state in the sintered body was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) with 3 keV Ar + sputtering. The binding energies for Pb were 137.2 and 142.2 eV. There was almost no change in peak position during Ar + sputtering, showing that Pb was firmly adherent with oxygen atoms. Besides, the as-synthesized powders were used for the pebble fabrication. The average crush load of Li 2 TiO 3 -0.5Li 4 SiO 4 –20%Pb pebbles sintered at 1223 K was 124 N, which was much higher than that without Pb addition. It was proved that the crush load increased almost linearly with the increase in the size of the pebbles. Thus, the bending strength of the sintered ceramic body was used to evaluate the mechanical properties. Further, the grain growth kinetics was studied. It was confirmed that the Pb addition reduced the activation energy of grain growth, which realized the densification of the ceramic pebbles at low temperatures.

Two dimensional (2D) hybrid metal halide perovskites (MHPs) with broadband emission have attracted enormous attention, which is highly promising for single-component solid state lighting. However, it remains a challenge to unveil the underlying origin of broadband emission and achieve high quantum yield (QY). Herein, 2D single-layered [NH 3 (CH 2 ) 4 NH 3 ]CdBr 4 (Cd–P) has been successfully prepared. By partially replacing Cd 2+ with Pb 2+ , the energy band of Cd–P shows a transformation from indirect to direct, supported by the density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Benefiting from the change of energy band, alloyed Cd x Pb 1-x -P shows an intensive broadband emission spanning the whole visible range with a maximum of photoluminescence (PL) QY of 58%. Temperature-dependent and time-resolved PL uncover that the broadband emission origins from the coupling between free excitons (FEs) and [CdBr 6 ] 4- octahedra , instead of [PbBr 6 ] 4- . These findings provide a deep insight into the origin of STEs emission and an effective approach to promote the broadband emission for Cd-based MHPs.

Tin–lead (Sn–Pb) based hybrid perovskite solar cell is investigated as a potential solution to extend the light absorption spectrum range, and to reduce environmental hazard caused by lead in the perovskite materials. Nonetheless, due to the instability of tin, the Sn–Pb based perovskite solar cells suffer from more severe efficiency degradation when compared to the lead-based perovskite solar cells, which restricts its further development. Here, a quaternary ammonium halide compound, Me 4 NBr, is introduced to passivate the Sn–Pb based perovskite surface. The Me 4 NBr effectively reduces the surface defects and enhances the open circuit voltage and fill factor of the Sn–Pb based perovskite solar cell. Moreover, the Me 4 NBr treated Sn–Pb perovskite cells also demonstrate a significant stability enhancement when compared with the untreated Sn–Pb perovskite cells.

Perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) have attracted extensive attention for various applications due to their hallmark optoelectronic properties. However, PQD gain materials are usually needed to be integrated with an external cavity to acquire effective optical feedback for lasing oscillation, which generally suffers from stringent fabrication procedures and the destruction of their pristine gain performance. In this work, we propose an approach to realize a new class of random lasers that are constructed by in situ precipitating perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) in metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Such random lasers make full use of the combined merits of MOFs showing a high refractive index and a broad transmission window and that of PQDs exhibiting high optical gain. A lead-based MOF is utilized as a matrix, which allows us to grow PQDs at the Pb2+ sites in situ and thus produce high-density PQDs gain in MOFs. We experimentally demonstrate low-threshold multicolor random lasers achieved in the visible spectral range with different wavelengths through compositional modulation in the nanoporous environment of MOF nanostructures and illustrate potential applications of the developed PQDs@MOFs random laser as the illumination source in the speckle-free optical imaging. This study will pave the way for the construction of perovskite-based lasing in multifunctional systems.

Here, we fabricated Cs-rich and Pb-rich Cs4PbBr6 samples with green photoluminescence emission and investigated the difference between them. Both Cs-rich and Pb-rich Cs4PbBr6 samples show strong green emissions at about 520 nm; however, the photoluminescence excitation properties of the green emission are greatly different from each other in the ultraviolet region. The photoluminescence excitation spectra of the Cs-rich sample have a broad excitation band from 334 to 500 nm. In comparison, the Pb-rich sample has two additional excitation bands of 250–300 and 324–334 nm. By correlating the experimental data with the theoretical calculations, the green photoluminescence emission can be attributed to the embedded CsPbBr3 nanocrystals, and the interlayer between Cs4PbBr6 and CsPbBr3 nanocrystals plays an important role in determining their photoluminescence excitation properties. It was proposed that the existence of the CsBr interlayer between the Cs4PbBr6 matrix and embedded CsPbBr3 nanocrystals block the electron transfer of excited Cs4PbBr6 and induce photoluminesence quenching under excitation of 250–300 nm.

Ag 2 Se quantum dots (QDs) as an effective biological probe in the second near-infrared window (NIR-II, 1000–1700 nm) have been widely applied in bioimaging with high tissue penetration depth and high spatiotemporal resolution. However, the ions deficiency and crystal defects caused by the high Ag + mobility in Ag 2 Se crystals are mainly responsible for the inefficient photoluminescence (PL) of Ag 2 Se QDs. Herein, a tailored route is reported to achieve controllable doping of Ag 2 Se QDs in which Ag is exchanged by Pb via cation exchange (CE), which is unattainable by direct synthetic methods. The Pb-doped Ag 2 Se QDs (denoted as Pb:Ag 2 Se QDs) present fire-new optical features with significantly enhanced PL intensity of 4.2 folds. Photoelectron spectroscopy confirms that Pb acts as an n-type dopant for Ag 2 Se QDs and therefore the electronic impurities provide additional carriers to fill the traps. Moreover, the general validity of this method is demonstrated to convert different sized Ag 2 Se into Pb:Ag 2 Se QDs, so that a wide range of NIR-II PL with high intensity is obtained. The bright NIR-II emission of Pb:Ag 2 Se QDs is further successfully performed in lymphatic system mapping.

Enhanced stability and prolonged reactivity of nanoparticles are critical factors for successful applications of the nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) technology. In this work, g-C 3 N 4 was employed as a support for distributing, stabilizing nZVI and further changing the composition, microstructure and electronic structure of nZVI due to the interactions between the iron nanoparticles and g-C 3 N 4 sheet. Adjusting the micro-structure of nZVI to enhance the adsorption ability, control the electron transfer, shift IEP negatively, and improve the reactivities and stabilities coordinatively results in stabilized and long-term effective g-nZVI. For example, the accumulated wastewater (i.e., [Pb(II)] = 10 mg/L) treatment volume with g-nZVI in 5 runs is determined to be 50 L, more than twice the treatment capacity of bare nZVI. Besides, more Pb(II) is reduced to metallic Pb by g-nZVI than that by nZVI. Characterizations with spherical-aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (Cs-STEM) integrated with X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (XEDS), electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), Raman spectroscopy, etc. visualize and quantitatively analyze the structural differences and distinctive reactive behaviors of nZVI and g-nZVI. The N-containing functional groups efficiently capture aqueous metal cations, accelerate mass transfer and electron transport from the iron core to surface-attached metal ions. In addition, the nZVI micro-structure change and the formation of covalent bonds between the lone-pair electron of nitrogen and empty orbital of iron apparently reduced the iron corrosion. Results provide direct evidence on the interface chemistry of g-nZVI and further verify the graphitic carbon nitride induces the Pb(II) ions to be deposited, reduced and grown onto iron nanoparticles.

A simple, inexpensive, fast, and visual distance-based paper analytical device has been developed for on-site detection of Pb(II). Pb(II) can inhibit the catalytic activity of G-quadruplex/hemin (G4/hemin) DNAzyme induced by K + , which catalyzes 3,3,5,5-tetramethyl benzidine (TMB) immobilized on paper to produce a visible blue band. The factors affecting Pb(II) detection have been optimized with PS concentration of 3 μM, K + concentration of 10 mM, and hemin concentration of 10 μM, as well as the straight channel width of 2.0 mm. It can be well found that the formed length correlates with the concentration of Pb(II) with a linear detection range of 0.02 μM − 50 μM. A fitting linear equation of Y = 20.793–5.391Log C (R 2 = 0.9788) can be obtained with a lowest detection limit of 1 nM. Additionally, the method is capable of selectively detecting Pb(II) and works well for Pb(II) detection in real samples. Overall, the visual distance-based paper analytical device offers an ideal platform for on-site detection of heavy metal ions, especially in resource-limited areas.
