This work reports the synthesis and characterization of Sr doped ZnO nanoneedles prepared by the chemical precipitation method. Studying the outcome of Sr doping on crystallite size, microstructure, optical and magnetic properties, synthesized nanoparticles were examined by using an x-ray diffractometer, a vibrating sample magnetometer, an ultraviolet–visible spectrometer, a field emission scanning electron microscope, and a photoluminescence spectrometer. The XRD investigation confirmed the increase in average crystallite size from 16 to 33 nm with the increase in Sr content up to 5% and then decreased to 26.23 for 10% of Sr content. The UV–Vis spectra confirmed the bandgap variation from 3.53 to 3.33 eV with Sr doping. FTIR spectra confirmed the substitution of Sr in ZnO through the slight shift of vibrational bonds at 570 cm −1 towards the higher wavenumber. UV emission at 395 nm observed in PL spectra confirmed the formation of ZnO nanoparticles. A microstructural analysis established the morphology transformation from nanoflakes to nanoneedles at a higher amount of Sr. Magnetization behaviour confirmed the weak ferromagnetism in undoped and Sr doped ZnO nanoparticles. The saturation magnetization, retentivity, and coercive field of 3% Sr doped ZnO are 0.30 emu g −1 , 0.034 emu g −1 , and 0.064 T, correspondingly. The enhancement of coercivity and magnetization is attributable to the replacement of Zn 2+ by Sr ions. A cyclic voltammetry study suggested that Sr doped ZnO nanoflakes may be a promising substantial electrode for supercapacitor development.

In this study, a non-activated ion-doped full-spectrum emission phosphor for white light-emitting diode (WLED) lighting is proposed using oxygen defect engineering. The YMZn 3 AlO 7 (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) phosphors with "114″ structure were prepared via a high-temperature solid-state reaction. Under excitation with 373 nm ultraviolet (UV) light, YSrZn 3 AlO 7 in YMZn 3 AlO 7 (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) exhibited the highest emission intensity and formed a wide yellow emission band centred at 563 nm. The full width at half maximum of the YSrZn 3 AlO 7 phosphor was 172.6 nm. A theoretical model based on the designed oxygen vacancies was proposed to determine the self-activated luminescence mechanism. Density functional theory calculations revealed that oxygen vacancies lead to the generation of new energy levels. Electron paramagnetic resonance experiments further confirmed that the luminescence originated from oxygen vacancies. Eventually, a warm WLED device ((x, y) = (0.4057, 0.4359)) with a correlated color temperature of 3814 K and a relative color rendering index of 83 was successfully prepared using the YSrZn 3 AlO 7 phosphor and a 365 nm UV LED chip. These results suggest that YSrZn 3 AlO 7 is a promising WLED phosphor and provide new insights into the application of self-activated phosphors in WLED.

Cervical cancer (CC) treatment is limited by chemoresistance, inadequate drug accumulation, and the lack of real-time monitoring. Among the underlying mechanisms, heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) mediates resistance to both chemotherapy and photothermal therapy, making it a rational target for intervention. To address these issues, we developed a novel type of cyclic RGD (cRGD) encapsulated SN38 and IR820 loaded bismuth selenide theranostic nanoplatforms-Bi 2 Se 3 -cRGD@SN38/IR820 nanoparticles (Bi-A@SR NPs) based on a bismuth selenide (Bi 2 Se 3 ) as core decorated with cRGD for tumor targeting, and co-loaded with SN38 and IR820. The RGD peptide contains a guanidino group from its arginine residue that can serve as a donor for nitric oxide (NO) generation, enabling the construct to provide both tumor-homing capability and on-demand NO release. The nanoplatform integrates computed tomography (CT) imaging and NIR fluorescence imaging (NIRF) to verify delivery and guide therapy. Upon 808 nm irradiation, photothermal and photodynamic effects generate hyperthermia and reactive oxygen species (ROS), which trigger on-site NO production from the RGD arginine moiety. This NO suppresses therapy-induced HSP70 upregulation, counteracting stress adaptation and enhancing chemo–phototherapy efficacy. By combining imaging-guided delivery, on-demand NO sensitization, and HSP70 inhibition, this nanotheranostic strategy offers a coordinated approach to improving treatment outcomes in CC.

Uranium tailings are directly upcycled into composite ceramics waste forms via microwave sintering. • A dual-phase SrZP/monazite structure enables simultaneous immobilization of Sr 2+ and Nd 3+ . • Rapid microwave sintering achieves high densification (4.24 g·cm −3 ) within 50 min at 1200 °C. • The composite ceramics exhibit enhanced mechanical strength up to 714.1 HV 1 . • Ultra-low leaching rates of Sr (10 –4 ) and Nd (10 –7 g·m −2 ·d –1 ) ensure long-term stability. As a primary byproduct of uranium mining and processing, Uranium tailings result in significant hazards for environment and human health owing to the presence of multivalent radioactive nuclides, especially for 226 Ra(II), 144 Nd(III), and 237 Np (III). Herein, we proposed a microwave one–step sintering of the uranium tailings to fabricate novel composite ceramics as (1– x )SrZP– x NdPO 4 ( x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1), suggesting the dual purposes of treating uranium tailings and immobilizing divalent fission products (FPs) and trivalent simulated nuclide. The phase evolution, microstructure, density, and chemical stability were systematically investigated for the sintered samples with different Sr/Nd ratios. As presented, the ceramics exhibit high densification without elemental enrichment via sintering at 1200 °C with a 50–min soak . As x increases in the crystalline phase, the content of monazite synchronously increases, leading to a maximum density of 4.24 g·cm −3 and a maximum Vickers hardness of 714.1 HV1 in final SrZP–NdPO 4 composite ceramics. More importantly, the SrZP–NdPO 4 composite ceramics demonstrate an excellent leaching resistance, correponding to the leaching rates of Sr and Nd as low as 10 –4 g·m −2 ·d –1 and 10 –7 g·m −2 ·d –1 over a 42–day period, respectively. This study offers a promising strategy for the long-term stabilization and safe disposal of the divalent FPs and trivalent radionuclides in uranium tailings via a ceramic solid-solution approach. A novel (1– x )SrZP– x NdPO 4 composite ceramic was designed to simultaneously enable uranium tailings utilization and the immobilization of divalent fission products (Sr) and trivalent surrogate nuclides (Nd). The safe immobilization of radiotoxic strontium (Sr) in high-level radioactive waste (HLW) remains a major challenge due to its tendency to segregate and leach under aqueous conditions. In this study, a surface vanadium (V) engineering strategy is proposed to enhance the chemical stability of Sr 2 Fe 1.5 Mo 0.5 O 6-δ (SFM) ceramics. V-doped samples (SFMV), synthesized via a sol-gel method with 0.05 mol V partially substituting Mo, show improved resistance to Sr migration. DFT calculations reveal that V modification increases the Sr migration barrier from 0.14 eV (in SFM) to 0.34 eV (in SFMV) and induces the formation of strong Fe-O-V, and Mo–O–V effectively suppressing Sr surface segregation. Additionally, the formation of SrMoO 4 phases may act as Sr sinks, further enhancing stability. Leaching tests show that the Sr release from SFMV drops from 7.43 × 10 −4 to 2.89 × 10 −6 g·cm −2 ·d −1 over 42 days, representing a 64 % reduction compared to pristine SFM. This work provides a promising strategy for designing durable ceramic hosts for Sr-containing HLW.

Atherosclerosis is a major cause of sudden death and myocardial infarction, instigated by unstable plaques. Thus, the early detection of unstable plaques and corresponding treatment can improve the prognosis and reduce mortality. In this study, we describe a protocol for the preparation of nanoparticles (NPs) combined with the phase transitional material perfluorohexane (PFH) and with dextran sulfate (DS) targeting class A scavenger receptors (SR-A) for the diagnosis and treatment of atherosclerotic vulnerable plaques. The results showed that the Fe-PFH-poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA)/chitosan (CS)-DS NPs were fabricated successfully, with the ability to undergo phase transition by low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) irradiation to achieve ultrasound imaging; a high carrier rate of Fe3O4 had a good negative enhancement effect on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The NPs had a high binding affinity for activated macrophages and could be endocytosed by the macrophages and notably induced apoptosis under LIFU irradiation by an acoustic droplet vaporization effect in vitro. Furthermore, in an ex vivo atherosclerotic plaque model of apolipoprotein E knockout (KO) (apoE–/–) mice induced by high cholesterol, the NPs selectively accumulated at the sites of SR-A expressed on the activated macrophages of the aortic region. This result was also confirmed by MRI in vivo, where the NPs could be targeted to the aortic plaque and reduced the T2* signal. The LIFU-induced phase transition could lead to the apoptosis of macrophages on plaques in vivo. In summary, Fe-PFH-PLGA/CS-DS NPs may be applied as multimodal and multifunctional probes and are expected to enable the specific diagnosis and targeted therapy of vulnerable plaques.

Near-infrared (NIR) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) light sources are desirable in photonic, optoelectronic, and biological applications. However, developing broadband red and NIR-emitting phosphors with good thermal stability is always a challenge. Herein, the synthesis of Eu 2+ -activated SrY 2 O 4 red phosphor with high photoluminescence quantum efficiency and broad emission band ranging from 540 to 770 nm and peaking at 620 nm under 450 nm excitation is designed. Sr/Ba substitution in SrY 2 O 4 :Eu 2+ has been further utilized to achieve tunable emission by modifying the local environment, which facilitates the giant red-shifted emission from 620 to 773 nm while maintaining the outstanding thermal stability of SrY 2 O 4 :Eu 2+ . The NIR emission is attributed to the enhanced Stokes shift and crystal field strength originated from the local structural distortions of [Y1/Eu1O 6 ] and [Y2/Eu2O 6 ]. The investigation in charge distribution around Y/Eu provides additional insight into increasing covalency to tune the emission toward the NIR region. As-fabricated NIR phosphor-converted LEDs demonstration shows its potential in night-vision technologies. This study reveals the NIR luminescence mechanism of Eu 2+ in oxide-based hosts and provides a design principle for exploiting Eu 2+ -doped NIR phosphors with good thermal stability.

Due to their poor resistance to swelling, developing biomass-based radionuclide-capturing aerogel adsorbents with high adsorption capacity and excellent mechanical stability remains a significant challenge. This paper describes a dual-network aerogel constructed using a multiscale interface-control strategy, leveraging Zn2+-induced chitosan precross-linking and entanglement of oxidized carboxymethyl cellulose (ox-CMC). Within this stable framework, ZIF-8 nanoparticles were synthesized in situ. This design, through physical entanglement and chemical cross-linking, suppressed the swelling of the dual-network framework. After 30 days of soaking, its tensile strength remained approximately 0.48 MPa, and it also exhibited good compressive resilience. Simultaneously, the nitrogen-rich channels of ZIF-8 synergize with the negatively charged surface of the dual network (zeta potential: −40.5 mV), resulting in an Sr2+ adsorption capacity of 226.8 mg/g, which is significantly higher than that of many clay- or polymer-based adsorbents. After 10 adsorption–desorption cycles, the aerogel retained 85.8% of its initial properties. This multiscale interface design provides a robust strategy for preparing swelling-resistant, high-performance biomass aerogels for advanced radioactive wastewater treatment.

The formation of oxygen vacancies in cathode materials for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) plays a pivotal role in enhancing the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity. Perovskite-type oxides are regarded as promising cathode candidates owing to their inherent mixed ionic and electronic conductivity (MIEC). In this study, we engineered a series of Pr 0.6 Sr 0.4-x Co 0.2 Fe 0.8 O 3-δ (where x= 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, denoted as PSCF40, PSCF35, PSCF30 and PSCF25, respectively) cathode through Sr defect and systematically investigated the effects of this modification on oxygen vacancy content and ORR catalytic activity. The A-site Sr deficiency directly regulates the oxygen vacancy concentration and oxygen ion migration capability in perovskite through charge compensation effects. When the defect concentration reached 0.1, the PSCF30 demonstrated optimal electrochemical performance. At 750 °C, the polarization impedance of PSCF30 is only 0.060 Ω cm 2 . Meanwhile, the peak power density of SFM-GDC/LSGM/GDC/PSCF30 single cell is 404.38 mW cm −2 , which is 39.7% higher than that of PSCF40 (289.38 mW cm −2 ). This study emphasizes the important role of appropriately increasing the oxygen vacancy concentration, suggesting that the introduction of appropriate A-site defect in the material is a feasible approach to improve the ORR catalytic activity and ionic conductivity of the cathode.

Considering that the structural differences could dictate the photocatalytic efficiency, the cubic SrTiO 3 (STO) and tetragonal CaTiO 3 (CTO) were developed to illustrate the structure–activity relationship. The STO with cubic structure demonstrates much higher photocatalytic toluene removal efficiency ( ca. 80.0%) than that of CTO ( ca. 20.0%), which can be ascribed to boosted formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), increased selectivity of intermediates, and promoted ring-opening and mineralization rate. Combining theoretical simulation and experimental characterization, the results reveal that the O 2 and H 2 O molecules tend to be adsorbed on the cubic STO, which boosts the formation of ROS. Also, highly selective formation of intermediate (benzoic acid) has been realized to accelerate ring-open and mineralization process as evidenced by the smooth conversion of STO as indicated by Gibbs free energy. This work provides new perspectives on the understanding of relationship between intrinsic structure and photocatalytic performance.

In the process of exploring ferroelectric semiconductors, a new system of (1− x ) KNbO 3 – x SrFeO 3−δ ( x = 0.00-0.20) was successfully synthesized via solid-state reaction. The crystal structures, ferroelectric, dielectric, optical, and electrical properties were systematically characterized. The orthorhombic phase with Amm2 space group is detected in all the ceramics. In addition, the orthorhombic and tetragonal phases coexist in 0.80KNbO 3 -0.20SrFeO 3-δ ceramic. The decrease in oxygen octahedron distortion induces a weak ferroelectric polarization. The existence of long-range ferroelectric polarization order in all the ceramics is verified and the bandgap of the ceramics can be tuned to ~2.18 eV. The improved short-circuit photocurrent density ( J sc ) and open-circuit voltage ( V oc ) of the poled 0.95KNbO 3 -0.05SrFeO 3−δ ceramic at 30 kV/cm are ~6.90 nA/cm 2 and 0.04 V, respectively. The activation energies for electrical conductivity of the grains and grain boundaries from 0.90KN–0.10SF ceramic are 0.67 and 0.77 eV, respectively, which indicate the doubly ionized oxygen vacancies. This work provides a new way to tune the optical bandgap/ferroelectric properties of KNbO 3 -based ceramics for potential application in ferroelectric photovoltaic and energy fields.

While the effects of Sr segregation on the performance and stability of perovskite electrodes in solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs) have been widely studied, most attention has been focused on surface Sr segregates, with the impact of the resulting Sr deficiencies within the bulk phase of the electrodes largely ignored. Here, we report our findings from an investigation into the impact of Sr deficiencies in the SrCo0.7Fe0.3O3−δ (SCF) lattice and surface Sr segregates on the electrochemical behavior of well-controlled anode materials. Results demonstrate that Sr deficiencies in the perovskite lattice significantly enhance bulk oxygen ion transport, while surface Sr segregates suppress oxygen vacancy formation at interfaces, resulting in a reduced rate of oxygen exchange and lower surface electrical conductivity. Our study provides critical insights into the roles of bulk Sr deficiencies and surface Sr segregates, particularly their effects on oxygen vacancy formation, electrical conductivity, oxygen ion transport, and the overall rate of a high-temperature oxygen evolution reaction.
