Wearable sensors with a three-dimensional (3D) structural design and electromagnetic shielding performance are significant for the future development of wearable electronic devices. However, it remains a challenge to achieve the target goals. Herein, the thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)/Ti 3 C 2 T x (MXene)/MnFe 2 O 4 /Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) ( i.e ., TMMM) composites were innovatively designed using parametric Voronoi structure with different pore sizes and porosity upon fused deposition molding (FDM) printing. The two-dimensional (2D) MXene/zero-dimensional (0D) MnFe 2 O 4 hybrid fillers were built initially by electrostatic bonding strategy, followed by adding the one-dimensional (1D) MWCNTs as a conductive bridging agent, this way endowed the nanofillers with different dimensions uniformly dispersed to form a superb conductive network structure in the TPU matrix. When applied as pressure sensors , the TMMM composites exhibited adjustable gauge factor (GF = 1.33–3.73), extensive sensing compression range (∼89% strain with 12.03 MPa stress), good durability (6000s cyclic compression), which was very conducive to monitoring human motion, such as finger bending, wrist bending, speech recognition, etc . The sensing mechanisms were also studied using the Finite element simulations , and the variation trend of resistance change was in good agreement with the simulation results. The average electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency (EMI SE) value of the 2.1 mm-thick printed composite reached 31.2 dB , suggesting that 99.9242% of electromagnetic waves can be shielded. The proposed strategy not only provided a solution to reduce the weight of electromagnetic shielding materials , but also provided an efficient method for developing porous 3D printed parts with adjustable sensing properties at the macroscopic scale towards wearable electronic devices.

Stimuli-responsive intelligent biomimetic materials are promoting the development of soft robotics. Despite tremendous advances in stimuli-responsive intelligent materials, it is still a challenge to design facile methods to integrate multifunctional features, including multiple-stimulus responsive ability, shape reconfiguration, reversible shape transformation and self-healing performance, into a single material system, which is an emerging interest and will greatly advance the field of intelligent bionic soft robotics. Herein, a novel multiple-stimulus responsive shape memory polymer based on biocompatible PCL/TPU/Fe3O4@PDA nanocomposites is developed by a facile and universal fabrication method. The nanocomposite film shows fast light- and magnetic-responsive ability (magnetic field: 1 s; light: 5 s). The temporary shape obtained by the combination of photothermal heating and magnetic-responsive actuation can be locked by turning off the light and magnetic field. Subsequent light illumination without the magnetic field can activate the material and drive the recovery of the initial shape. Thus, the resulting intelligent material presents shape reconfiguration and reversible shape transformation by a light and magnetic synergy response. In addition, the material exhibits excellent and repeatable shape memory assisted self-healing performance, the surface crack can be self-healed under light illumination (in 120 s), and the self-healing efficiency can reach 90.0%. Therefore, this intelligent shape memory polymer nanocomposite with its multifunctional features has great potential for advanced soft robotics in a plethora of fields, such as biomedical devices, artificial muscles, smart actuators and aerospace.

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) nanocomposites reinforced with hydroxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized via in situ polymerization of polycarbonate diol (PCDL), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), and chain extender. The MWCNTs were covalently integrated into the TPU matrix through reactions between surface hydroxyl groups and isocyanate. Systematic characterization revealed uniform MWCNT dispersion (SEM/XRD) without agglomeration up to 4 wt% loading. The nanocomposites exhibited enhanced hardness (80 to 89 Shore A), elevated thermal stability (5% weight loss temperature increased by 6 °C), and restricted soft-segment chain mobility (glass transition temperature rose from −37.34 to −26.26 °C). Critically, surface resistivity decreased dramatically from 10 14 (pure TPU) to 3 × 10⁶ Ω (4 wt% MWCNTs), achieving antistatic performance (5 × 10 11 Ω) at only 1 wt% loading. This work demonstrates a robust strategy for developing high-performance antistatic TPU nanocomposites.

To overcome the difficulty of forming stable and continuous conductive pathways of MXene in conventional electrospinning systems, we develop a high-performance flexible pressure sensor featuring a synergistic embedded–coated dual conductive architecture. A TPU/PCL nanofiber membrane uniformly incorporating MXene is fabricated via one-step electrospinning, followed by PEDOT:PSS dip-coating to construct an external conductive layer. Subsequent Ecoflex 00–30 encapsulation ensures mechanical integrity and maintains continuous multilevel electron-transport networks. Structural characterizations confirm the homogeneous incorporation of MXene within the nanofibers and the continuous surface coverage of PEDOT:PSS. The optimized sensor exhibits a maximum sensitivity of 7.05 kPa⁻¹ in the low-pressure region, together with a broad sensing range up to 100 kPa, enabling reliable detection across both subtle and high-pressure regimes. It further demonstrates fast dynamic response (0.11 s/0.31 s for response/recovery), a low detection limit of 50 Pa, and excellent durability over 2000 loading cycles. Demonstration tests confirm its ability to detect subtle physiological motions at different body locations, such as wrist movements and throat motions during swallowing, as well as various joint motions. Overall, this synergistic dual conductive strategy offers a promising platform for wearable health monitoring, electronic skins, and human–machine interaction.

This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of TPU/MWCNT absorbing composites, which were synthesized through the in-situ polymerization of polycarbonate diol (PCDL), 4,4-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI), 1,4-butanediol (BDO), and hydroxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) in varying amounts. The study investigates the effects of MWCNT addition on the microstructure, mechanical properties, thermal stability, and wave absorption performance of the composites. Compared to neat TPU, the composite with 6 wt % MWCNT demonstrates an increase in tensile strength of 3.4 MPa (approximately 8.7%) and an elongation-at-break enhancement of 118%. Additionally, the temperature corresponding to 5% mass loss increases modestly from 308 °C to 324.5 °C. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images confirm that the MWCNT structure is well-preserved within the TPU and exhibits good dispersion. The uniform distribution of MWCNT in the TPU facilitates the formation of effective conductive pathways in the composites, resulting in significant dielectric loss for incident electromagnetic waves. The composites containing 6% MWCNT achieve full-frequency absorption of X-band electromagnetic waves, with a maximum absorption of -20.78 dB and a matching thickness of only 1.1 mm. Furthermore, the incorporation of MWCNT enhances the mechanical properties of the composites while exerting minimal impact on the thermal characteristics of TPU.

Flexible strain sensors, owing to their stretchability, tunable mechanical properties, and biocompatibility, hold great promise for electronic skin and human-machine interaction devices. However, material and structural limitations often preclude the simultaneous achievement of high sensitivity and a wide detection range, thereby constraining their practical application. In this study, we first used high-frequency ultrasound to develop a Carbon Nanotube/Thermoplastic Polyurethane (CNT/TPU) composite fiber membrane on electrospun TPU, and then printed a conductive silver paste pattern onto its surface to fabricate an Ag/CNT/TPU strain sensor. This sensor features a hierarchical conductive network, comprising a densely packed silver paste layer overlying a CNT-modified TPU fiber network. Benefiting from the synergistic interaction between these two levels, the sensor exhibits a maximum gauge factor of 2711.3, a broad working range of 0%–400%, ultrafast response and recovery times, and excellent long-term stability. Finally, we demonstrated its utility in monitoring human motion, from small-amplitude finger bending to large-range knee flexion, and successfully employed it to drive a complex bionic hand, thereby advancing the use of flexible strain sensors in human-machine interaction applications.

High contrast is realized via switchable excitation in Ho 3+ /Yb 3+ co-doped molybdates. • Electrospun PMMA/TPU binary networks achieved fiber-welding for 400% stretchability. • Hydrophobic encapsulation with a large contact angle impedes moisture ingress. • Excellent thermal stability is verified by 90% retained emission intensity at 373 K. • Strain sensing and dual-mode encryption broaden application prospects for smart skin. Smart adaptive optoelectronic skins represent a critical foundation for next-generation wearable electronics, spurring extensive research into intelligent platforms that simultaneously harness mechanical compliance and excitation-dependent emissions to execute complex, multi-level security interactions. Pristine microcrystalline Li 2 Gd 4 (MoO 4 ) 7 : Ho 3+ /Yb 3+ phosphors display dual-mode emissions, yielding green under near-ultraviolet excitation and orange-red under 980 nm irradiation due to tailored energy transfer pathways, yet inherent structural brittleness completely prevents their direct deployment in flexible configurations. Overcoming this fundamental bottleneck relies on encapsulating these phosphors via electrospinning within a binary polymeric blend consisting of polymethyl methacrylate and thermoplastic polyurethane, yielding hybrid fibrous networks with exceptional stretchability up to 400% elongation driven by microscopic fiber-welded junctions optimizing tensile load distribution. Crucially, sophisticated multi-environmental modulation is manifested within these flexible scaffolds, where the photoluminescence intensity is dynamically governed by tensile strain due to shifting spatial densities, while this dense polymeric network maintains stable luminescence at 373 K and provides a superior hydrophobic barrier maintaining static water contact angles beyond 100°. Synergizing this strain-responsive sensing with the excitation-switchable dual-color outputs enables successful dual-functional integration of precise kinesiologic tracking and multi-level information cryptography, paving a promising way for self-supported smart skins and advanced optical information security.

Bio-based TPU/ItBR microcellular foams via supercritical N₂ foaming replace traditional petroleum shoe materials. • Effects of blend ratio, filler and foaming process on morphology and cell structure are clarified for bio-elastomer blends. • Supercritical N₂ foaming balances low density and high abrasion resistance for shoe sole materials. • Rice husk bio-SiO₂ improves abrasion resistance, refines cells and enhances dry/wet slip resistance. Addressing the challenge of balancing lightness, durability, anti-slip performance, and environmental sustainability in conventional sole materials, this study employs bio-based thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and bio-based itaconate rubber (ItBR) as primary constituents. By leveraging supercritical nitrogen physical foaming technology, a novel bio-based composite foaming material tailored for eco-friendly shoe outsoles is synthesized. By systematically varying the TPU/ItBR blend ratio and key parameters of supercritical foaming, we prepared a series of both unfoamed and foamed samples. Utilizing characterization techniques such as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), we elucidated the intrinsic structure–activity relationship among the microscopic interface structure, compatibility mechanisms, and macroscopic properties of the composite materials. The research findings indicate that a stable N-H····O=C hydrogen bond interaction can be established between the ItBR and TPU phases. This interaction effectively addresses issues such as weak bonding and performance degradation that commonly arise in composite materials, resulting in a significant enhancement of overall performance. The sample with a ratio of 50:50–10 exhibits the most favorable overall performace. Under foaming conditions at 80 ℃, the dry and wet anti-slip coefficients are 0.60 and 0.35, respectively. Additionally, the tensile strength measures 17.1 MPa, while the wear amount is only 24.54 mm 3 /40 m, indicating exceptional strength, wear resistance, and anti-slip properties. The preparation method employed in this study is straightforward, efficient, environmentally friendly, and low-carbon, effectively addressing the production and application needs for sustainable shoe soles. This approach offers a practical reference for future research, development, and industrial production of high-performance, green, and sustainable footwear materials. Photocatalysis is widely acknowledged as an efficient and environmentally friendly method for treating dye-contaminated wastewater. However, the utilization of powdered photocatalysts presents significant challenges, including issues related to recyclability and the potential for secondary pollution. Herein, a novel technique based on 3D printing for the synthesizing of iron oxide (Fe2O3) involving chlorella was presented. Initially, chlorella powders were immobilized within acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) substrate plastics using melt extrusion technology. Subsequently, these composite materials were transformed into ABS/TPU/chlorella skeletons (ATCh40), through fused deposition molding (FDM) technology. The integration of Fe2O3 onto the ATCh40 (ATCh40-Fe2O3) skeletons was accomplished by subjecting them to controlled heating in an oil bath. A comprehensive characterization of the synthesized materials confirms the successful growth of Fe2O3 on the surface of 3D skeletons. This strategy effectively addresses the immobilization challenges associated with powdered photocatalysts. In photocatalytic degradation experiments targeting methyl orange (MO), the ATCh40-Fe2O3 skeletons exhibited a remarkable MO removal rate of 91% within 240 min. Under conditions where the pH of MO solution was maintained at 3, and the ATCh40-Fe2O3 skeletons were subjected to a heat treatment in a 150 °C blast drying oven for 2 hours, the degradation rate of MO remained substantial, achieving 90% removal after 6 cycles. In contrast, when the same synthetic procedure was applied to ABS/TPU (AT) skeletons, the resulting product was identified as α-FeOOH. The MO removal rate by the AT-α-FeOOH skeletons was considerably lower, reaching only 49% after 240 min. This research provided a practical approach for the construction of photocatalytic devices through the use of 3D printing technology.

Although bio-based sensing materials have a wide range of applications in the field of pressure detection, they still need to improve their sensitivity, detection limit and hysteresis. This paper studied the relationship between the 3D pore structure and sensing performance under dynamics. Using Balsa wood as the substrate, CWA/TPU aerogel and its sensor were prepared with lightweight, compressibility, highly sensitivity, wide-detection, and low-hysteresis. Meanwhile, the brittleness problem of the carbonized aerogel was solved by uniformly attaching TPU to the aerogel interface. In this paper, the 3D structure of CWA/TPU aerogel during compression was reconstructed by Micro-XCT technology, and the results show that the sensitivity of the bio-based carbonized material is directly proportional to the porosity and inversely proportional to the aspect ratio. This CWA/TPU aerogel pressure sensor has a high sensitivity of 76.18 kPa −1 in a wide detection limit of 0.6 Pa–100 kPa, 90 % supercompression strain, ±7.4 % low hysteresis and outstanding stability over 10,000 cycles. And the sensor can detect different ranges of pressure strains and has great potential for future applications in physiological signal monitoring, action recognition, and sports training.

Carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) water suspension foaming can produce complex special-shaped components foamed products with microcellular and low-density bead foams. The traditional water suspension foaming process has wastewater, complexity, high energy consumption, and hydrolysable polymer degradation. Based on the above problems, the water-free bead foaming process in spouted bed is developed, which has simple process and high efficiency. However, due to the differences in molecular structure of different polymers and the different plasticization effect of CO 2 on polymers, there are differences in the adhesion behavior of polymer beads in the foaming process. In this work, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) beads were selected as raw materials, and the effects of different CO 2 -philic surfactants on the adhesion and foaming behavior of TPU beads were investigated. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and experiments showed perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) can inhibit the adhesion of TPU foamed beads. Under 4 wt% PFOA, non-adhered TPU foamed beads with expansion ratio is 10.75, cell size is 49.83 μm and cell density is 4.30 × 10 7 cells/cm 3 can be prepared. Then, the shrinking TPU foamed beads are foamed twice by nitrogen (N 2 ), and expansion ratio is over 14 times, cell size is 60.06 μm, and cell density is 5.23 × 10 7 cells/cm 3 . Through this method, achieving non-adhered TPU foamed beads characterized by high expansion ratio, high cell density, and small cell size. Finally, PFOA was efficiently recovered and reused via flash evaporation, achieving a recovery ratio exceeding 97.69 %. It’s worthy that minor losses may still present environmental and health concerns.

The work reports a novel strategy for combining polymers and metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) into composites for adsorption applications. Calcium silicate (CaSiO3) was introduced into acrylonitrile butadiene styrene/thermoplastic polyurethane (ABS/TPU) alloy, and the CaSiO3/ABS/TPU skeleton was fabricated by 3D printing technology. The Ca-MOF was directly loaded on the surface of acetone-etched 3D skeleton by in-situ growth method. The obtained 3D skeleton was characterized and the performance of methylene blue (MB) adsorption was determined. It is clear that Ca-MOF is successfully loaded on the surface of 3D skeleton due to the presence of CaSiO3. The MB adsorption ratios of the solutions with initial concentrations of 50, 100 and 200 mg/L at the equilibrium time (5 h) are 88%, 88% and 80%, respectively, revealing good MB adsorption performance of the 3D skeleton. The MB adsorption ratio remains 70% at six runs of adsorption–desorption experiment, indicating the excellent recovering property of the skeleton. The results show that the prepared CaSiO3/ABS/TPU 3D skeleton is a candidate adsorbent for printing and dyeing effluent treatment.Keywords:3D printing;metal–organic framework;in-situ growth;adsorption;methylene blue
