Overcoming the symmetric electronic structure of single-atom catalysts (SACs) to promote the cleavage of O-O bond remains critical for efficient H 2 O 2 activation. Herein, the high-loading Fe SACs (FeN 1 C 2 /C 2 N, 7.2 wt%) is designed via in-situ carbon defect engineering, which breaks the symmetric electronic structure through the nonplanar asymmetric coordination of Fe. DFT calculations and characterizations reveal that compared to the planar symmetric Fe-N 2 structure, N 1 -Fe-C 2 coordination modifies d-p orbital hybridization, inducing the spin state of Fe from low-spin (LS, t 2g : ↑↓ , ↑↓ , ↑↓ ; e g : _, _, _) to high-spin (HS, t 2g : ↑↓ , ↑ , ↑ ; e g : ↑ , ↑ ; _). The HS state weakens the coupling between *H 2 O 2 and Fe 3 d orbitals, promoting H 2 O 2 decomposition into abundant •OH, further achieving electron-rich pollutant Sulfamerazine (SMR) degradation with the rate constant of k obs =0.3308 min -1 . Additionally, such nonplanar asymmetric coordination releases the N atoms adjacent to the Fe sites, allowing them to form electron-transfer channel with SMR, which establishes nonradical electron transfer pathway (ETP). Pollutant pre-adsorption enables •OH to attack the target in situ along an ultrashort pathway, resulting in an efficient ETP-assisted radical oxidation mechanism. Overall, this work provides new insights into SACs design and a novel perspective for Fenton-like systems application.

Copper-based electrocatalysts have garnered significant attention for their unique ability produce C 2+ products at industrial-level current densities in the electrochemical conversion of the CO 2 process. Maintaining a sufficient amount of Cu + species on the catalyst surface during the reaction is crucial for the efficient and stable reaction. Here, we develop Cu 2 O hollow networks that could maintain the morphology and surface Cu + sites during the reaction, showing excellent selectivity (81.7% at a partial current density of 266 mA cm −2 ) and stability toward C 2+ product generation in a flow cell. The strategies presented in this work provide valuable guidance for designing high-performance cuprous oxide electrocatalysts targeting C 2+ products.

A heterostructured Ag/Cu 2 O-ZrO₂ catalyst was synthesized via an interface engineering strategy. • The Ag/Cu 2 O-ZrO₂ possesses a substantial number of Cu-O-Zr heterointerfaces with dispersed Ag sites • The optimized Ag/Cu 2 O-ZrO₂ catalyst demonstrates exceptional CO₂-to-C 2 fuels conversion performance. • Possible mechanism for boosting electroreduction of CO 2 reduction was proposed. • The present work sheds light on the customization of interfacial engineering with dispersed active sites. The efficient electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) into multi‑carbon (C 2+ ) products is critical for sustainable carbon management, yet remains limited by poor selectivity and sluggish C C coupling kinetics. Herein, a heterostructured Ag/Cu 2 O-ZrO 2 catalyst was synthesized via an interface engineering strategy to promote C 2 production during CO 2 electroreduction. The incorporation of highly dispersed Ag nanoparticles and ZrO 2 domains onto Cu 2 O nanocrystals generates abundant Cu-O-Zr heterointerfaces, which synergistically regulate the local electronic environment and intermediate conversion behavior. In this catalytic system, the dispersed Ag sites act as efficient *CO-generating centers to enrich local CO coverage, while the Cu-O-Zr interfacial domains stabilize oxygen-containing C C coupling intermediates and facilitate their subsequent hydrogenation toward C 2 products. Benefiting from the tandem synergy between CO enrichment and interfacial intermediate stabilization, Ag/Cu 2 O-ZrO 2 catalyst achieves a high C 2 Faradaic efficiency of 78.2% and a C 2 partial current density of 17.1 mA·cm −2 at −1.3 V vs. RHE, outperforming Cu 2 O and Cu 2 O-ZrO 2 counterparts. In situ infrared spectroscopy reveals the efficient evolution of key intermediates from *COOH to *CO and subsequently to *OCCO during electrocatalysis. Meanwhile, DFT calculations demonstrate that Ag promotes *CO accumulation and suppresses its premature desorption, whereas the Cu-O-Zr interface stabilizes *OCCO and *CHCHO intermediates and lowers the corresponding energy barriers for C 2 formation. This work provides mechanistic insights into tandem interface engineering for selective CO 2 electroreduction toward multi‑carbon fuels through the spatially cooperative regulation of CO generation and C C coupling pathways. In Cu-based electrocatalysts, appropriate amount of Cu 0 and high concentration of Cu + are essential for the efficient conversion of CO 2 into C 2+ products. An obstacle of CO 2 electroreduction is the inevitable reduction of Cu + to Cu 0 at cathodic potential. Intermediates confinement is a promising solution to delay Cu + deterioration, in which it is crucial to maintain an appropriate amount of Cu 0 and Cu + species to produce sufficient intermediates to protect most Cu + species. Herein, based on the influence of Cu + /Cu 0 ratio on the reaction process and its feedback, a series of hollow Cu 2 O nanoreactors with different cavity sizes were synthesized to modulate the concentration of intermediates and the coverage degree of Cu + , so as to realize a constant high Cu + /Cu 0 ratio. The optimized hollow Cu 2 O nanoreactors achieved a C 2+ Faradaic efficiency of 70.1 ± 0.2 % at a partial current density of −9.3 ± 0.1 mA cm −2 over 30 h and a large C 2+ -to-C 1 ratio of 9.73. Operando Raman spectra and quasi in - situ Auger electron spectra confirmed that the moderate cavity Cu 2 O nanoreactors led to a full coverage of Cu + and an optimal Cu + /Cu 0 ratio of 8.12:1, which brought the stability of Cu + species and cavity structure, as well as the enhanced C C dimerization.

Higher alcohol synthesis (HAS) from syngas is a promising route for converting non-petroleum fossil energy resources into useful fuels or chemicals, while the design and preparation of highly efficient catalysts remain challenging. Herein, a series of Co 0 -Co 2 C catalysts supported on mesoporous carbon–silica composites were prepared for HAS. The composites were derived from carbon-silica nanocages, consisting of uniformly distributed carbon and silica species, which significantly affected the particle dispersion, phase evolution and catalytic performance. With increasing the carbon content, the initial carburization of cobalt was promoted, and some obtained Co 2 C tended to convert to hexagonal closest packed cobalt (hcp-Co, a highly active site for Fischer-Tropsch), boosting the CO dissociation and catalyst activity. While as the silica content increased, more Co 2 C phases can be stabilized, leading to enhanced Co 2 C/Co 0 ratio and ROH selectivity. As a result, the optimal 15Co/22Si@C catalyst achieved a ROH selectivity of 40.1% where 96.0 wt% was higher alcohols (HA), and a space time yield (STY) towards HA of 26.5 mmol·g cat −1 ·h −1 , which remarkably outperformed most of the reported Co-based catalysts in HAS. Moreover, the superior stability of over 250 h reaction was obtained, owing to the confinement effect and strong metal-support interaction provided by the mesoporous carbon–silica composites. This work may provide guidance for designing high-performance monometallic cobalt catalyst in HAS.

Electrocatalytic CO 2 conversion has been considered as a promising way to recycle CO 2 and produce sustainable fuels and chemicals. However, the efficient and highly selective electrochemical reduction of CO 2 directly into multi-carbon (C 2+ ) products remains a great challenge. Herein, we synthesized three type catalysts with different morphologies based on Cu 2 O nanowires, and studied their morphology and crystal facet reconstruction during the pre-reduction process. Benefiting from abundant exposure of Cu (100) crystal facet, the nanosheet structure derived Cu catalyst showed a high faradaic efficiency (FE) of 67.5% for C 2+ products. Additionally, electrocatalytic CO 2 reduction studies were carried out on Cu(100), Cu(110), and Cu(111) single crystal electrodes, which verified that Cu(100) crystal facets are favorable for the C 2+ products in electrocatalytic CO 2 reduction. Our work showed that catalysts would reconstruct during the CO 2 reduction process and the importance in morphology and crystal facet control to obtain desired products.

Vanillin is a natural flavoring agent that is widely used in the bioengineering industry. To enable sustainable development, joint consideration of bacterial performance and negative environmental impacts are critical to vanillin biosynthesis. In this study, a cold shock protein (csp) gene was upregulated for maintaining stable growth in Arthrobacter sp. C2 responding to vanillin and cold stress. Furthermore, the recombinant strain C2 was constructed by simultaneously deleting the xylC gene encoding benzaldehyde dehydrase and overexpressing the pchF gene encoding vanillyl alcohol oxidase and achieved a maximum vanillin productivity of 0.85 mg/g DCW/h with alkaline lignin as the substrate. Finally, this process generated an environmental impact value of 25.05, which was the lowest environmental impact achieved according to life cycle assessment (LCA). Improvement strategies included reducing electricity consumption and replacing chemicals. This study achieved the development of an effective strategy, and future studies should focus on precise vanillin biosynthesis methods for large-scale application.

Background Epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) is regarded as a key process in repair of airway epithelium after injury. Forkhead Box C2 (FOXC2) is a transcription factor involved in EMT process, whether it is involved in repair of bronchial epithelium remains unknown. Methods C57BL/6 mice were subjected to intraperitoneal injection with naphthalene (NAPH; 200 mg/kg) to induce airway injury model. qPCR, immunoblot and FOXC2 immunohistochemistry assays were conducted to detect the expression of FOXC2 in bronchial epithelium. To explore the function of FOXC2 in NAPH-induced airway injury, the mice were given intratracheal administration of shFOXC2- or shNC-lentivirus particles, followed by NAPH treatment. Hematoxylin-and-eosin staining was used to assess the histopathology of the bronchial epithelium. Immunofluorescence analysis of CCSP, a club cell marker confirmed the CCSP expression in bronchial epithelium. Immunoblot and immunofluorescence assays determined the expression of E-cadherin, vimentin, and N-cadherin. In mouse primary bronchial epithelial cells (PBECs), we overexpressed and silenced FOXC2 by lentivirus particles, respectively. Cell migration was analyzed using wound healing assay. Immunoblot assays determined the E-cadherin, vimentin, FN-EDA expression in TGF-β1-induced PBECs. mRNA sequencing (mRNA-seq) and FOXC2 ChIP sequencing (ChIP-seq) to reveal the downstream genes of FOXC2 in TGF-β1-induced PBECs. Luciferase assay, ChIP-PCR and functional rescue experiments were performed to confirm the interaction of FOXC2/formin binding protein 1 (FNBP1) in TGF-β1-induced PBECs.Results FOXC2 expression was up-regulated in the lung tissues of mice at 2, 3 and 6 days post-NAPH. FOXC2 knockdown in bronchial epithelium of mice delayed CCSP+ club cell regeneration and normal repair of the airway epithelium within 14 days after injury. Knockdown of FOXC2 increased E-cadherin but decreased vimentin and N-cadherin, EMT markers during early phase after injury. In vitro, knockdown of endogenous FOXC2 repressed the migration of cells and increased TGF-β1-induced E-cadherin but decreased vimentin, N-cadherin and FN-EDA. Exogenous FOXC2 addition exerted opposite effects. Furthermore, mRNA-seq and FOXC2 ChIP-seq revealed that FNBP1 might be a downstream target of FOXC2. Overexpression of FNBP1 reversed the inhibitory role of FOXC2 knockdown in EMT.Conclusion sThese data highlight the important function of FOXC2 as a regulator in repair of bronchial epithelium after injury.Graphical

Photothermal hydrogenation of CO 2 offers a solar-driven route to multicarbon hydrocarbons, but controlling carbide formation and maintaining reconstructed active sites remain challenging for iron-based catalysts. Here, we develop a trace Al/Rb co-promoted CuFe 2 O 4 catalyst that enables efficient and stable photothermal CO 2 hydrogenation to light olefin under ambient pressure. The optimized catalyst achieves high C 2 -C 4 olefin selectivity of approximately 63%, suppressing CH 4 selectivity and sustaining stable photothermal-catalytic performance for 200 h. Integrated experimental characterizations and theoretical calculations reveal that the CuFe 2 O 4 precursor undergoes reaction-induced reconstruction to form Cu-Fe 5 C 2 interfacial structures. Trace Al/Rb promotion facilitates the formation and stabilization of reconstructed metal–carbide interfaces, with Al regulating the Fe-centered coordination environment and carbide stability, while Rb tunes the interfacial electronic structure and adsorption–hydrogenation balance. This cooperative regulation stabilizes carbide-based interfacial active sites and promotes CO 2 -derived C 1 intermediates toward C–C coupling and C 2 -intermediate stabilization, thereby favoring C 2 -C 4 olefin formation.

C2 prenylated indoles are widespread in a variety of bioactive natural alkaloids. Therefore, the selective installation of prenyl group at C2 position of NH indoles is of great significance. However, the known protocols generally require a multi-step procedure and stoichiometric promoters. Herein we develop a one-step C2 prenylation of NH indole with cheap tert- prenyl alcohol enabled by acid catalysis. Salient features include good regioselectivity, step- and atom-economy, broad substrate scope, and simple catalytic system. The mechanistic investigations demonstrate that both C2 prenylation and C3 prenylation/migration pathways are engaged in the reaction. Notably, this practical strategy can be applied to the late-stage diversification of tryptophan-based peptides and concise synthesis of tryprostatin B.

Acetaminophen (APAP) is an antipyretic and analgesic, which is commonly associated with drug-induced hepatic injury. C2-ceramide plays a key role in mediating cell life activities, and oltipraz was extensively studied as a cancer chemopreventive agent. Glutathione S -transferase A1 (GSTA1) acts as a vital liver detoxification enzyme. Hepatocyte nuclear factor 1 (HNF-1) regulates various cellular signaling pathways. In this study, we investigated the effects of C2-ceramide and oltipraz on APAP-induced hepatocyte injury and the changes of HNF-1 and GSTA1. Results showed that C2-ceramide (6 μmol/L) exacerbated APAP-induced hepatocyte injury and caused a significant decrease ( P < .01) in HNF-1 and GSTA1 expressions. Meanwhile, GSTA1 content in supernatant was significantly increased ( P < .01). In contrast, oltipraz (8 μmol/L) reduced the injury and significantly elevated ( P < .01) HNF-1 and GSTA1 expressions while GSTA1 content in supernatant was significantly decreased ( P < .01). In conclusion, these findings revealed that C2-ceramide inhibited HNF-1 and GSTA1 expression and exacerbated hepatocyte injury, while oltipraz treatment results in the reduction of hepatocyte injury, and promoted HNF-1 and GSTA1 expression. Additionally, the changes in HNF-1 and GSTA1 were related to APAP-induced hepatocyte injury. These results were useful to investigate the mechanism of an antipyretic and analgesic drug combination.

Although many researchers have reported CO 2 hydrogenation to various C1 chemicals, it is still challenging to directly and selectively convert CO 2 to C 2 -C 4 hydrocarbons in terms of overcoming the extreme inertness of CO 2 and a high C C coupling barrier. In the present work, we report an efficient integration of methanol-synthesis and the methanol-to-hydrocarbons with the bifunctional catalyst component of In 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 and SAPO-5. These tandem reactions exhibit an excellent relative selectivity of C 2 -C 4 (83%) with a suppressed CH 4 relative selectivity less than 3% at T = 300 °C. A detailed analysis indicates that the partially reduced indium oxide surface (In 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 ) can better activate CO 2 and promote the synthesis of methanol than In 2 O 3 alone, and C C coupling is subsequently manipulated within the confined acidic pores of SAPO-5 according to XRD, H 2 -TPR, CO 2 -TPD, SEM and TEM. Furthermore, the proximity of two components and the content of Si also play an important role in such outstanding selectivity to C 2 -C 4 . Our study paves a new path for the direct synthesis of lower hydrocarbons.
