Ginsenoside Rh2 is a rare but pharmacologically potent component of ginseng, which is known for its immunomodulatory, anti-tumor, and antiaging effects. However, its low natural abundance and the instability of free enzymes used in its biosynthesis hinder large scale production. To address these challenges, a magnetic nanocomposite nickel-based metal organic framework (Ni-MOF) via a mild, bovine serum albumin (BSA)-templated synthesis method was developed. This MOF was engineered to enable simultaneous purification and co-immobilization of recombinant glycosyltransferase (UGT) and sucrose synthase (SUSy), forming a dual-enzyme catalyst system BSA-Trypsin-Fe 3 O 4 /MOF@UGT&SUSy BT-Fe 3 O 4 /MOF@UGT&SUSy for the biotransformation of ginsenoside Rh2. The immobilized enzyme system BSA-Trypsin-Fe 3 O 4 /MOF (BT-Fe 3 O 4 /MOF) demonstrated high enzyme loading 176.39 mg/g and enhanced thermal, pH, and storage stability compared to free enzymes. The co-immobilized UGT-SUSy system also facilitated in situ regeneration of UDP-glucose, significantly improving catalytic efficiency. Under optimized conditions, the system achieved a Rh2 yield of 80.67 μg/mL and retained 58.01 % of the initial activity after 12 repeated cycles. This work not only highlights the potential of BT-Fe 3 O 4 /MOF in sustainable and efficient enzymatic catalysis but also offers a sustainable and scalable approach for the enzymatic synthesis of high-value nutraceuticals.

Interfacial solar evaporation is regarded as the promising technology to mitigate freshwater scarcity. However, when polluted water is used, toxic pollutants might accumulate in the bulk water. Herein, we report the production of Ni-MOF nanorod from waste poly(ethylene terephthalate) and fabricate bifunctional Ni-MOF-based evaporators. Owing to high light absorption and photothermal conversion, low thermal coefficient, and vaporization enthalpy, it shows an exciting evaporation rate (2.25 kg m −2 h −1 ) with good flexibility/durability, rated as one of most advanced evaporators. Density functional theory and COMSOL results show that the combination of nickel-sites in Ni-MOF and local heat plays a crucial role in peroxymonosulfate activation to produce reactive species. Thereby, it exhibits the high degradation activity of tetracycline. In outdoor, the freshwater production reaches 5.54 kg m −2 per day, and the tetracycline removal efficiency is 91%. This work provides a sustainable approach to produce solar evaporators capable of freshwater production and contaminant degradation.

Lamellar membranes are attracting extensive attention for high throughput and precise molecules/ions sieve separation. However, the energy-consuming exfoliation and low yield of single-layer nanosheets restrict the massive production of membranes. Herein, we facilely fabricated 2D Ni-mediated metal-organic framework (Ni-MOF) membranes directly from multiply stacked nanosheets (MSNs) for both aqueous and organic molecular sieve separation. Multiply layered nanosheets were obtained from a high concentration dispersion via simple ultrasonic treatment. The morphology and chemistry of synthesized Ni-MOF nanosheets were characterized via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), N 2 adsorption-desorption, Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS). The thickness of Ni-MOF membranes could be well regulated by the volume of dispersion. The membrane exhibited high molecular rejection to 8GX (97.29%), EB (96.28%), CR (99.69%), and CBB (93.31%) in water, respectively and a stable perm-selectivity in continuous 24 h filtration. The lamellar membrane showed excellent pressure and pH (2–10) resistance. The membrane achieved rational permeance of various organic solvents mainly depending on viscosity and good rejection to MB (91.37%), BY (92.01%), and EB (96.90%) in isopropanol.

In recent years, the increasing discharge of microplastics (MPs) and oil pollutants into aquatic environments has posed serious ecological and health concerns, driving the urgent need for efficient and sustainable removal technologies. In response to this challenge, this study successfully prepared a multifunctional superhydrophobic sponge (HFNA) with photothermal conversion capability and magnetic responsiveness via a simple dip-coating method, which can be used for the adsorption of microplastic particles (MPs) and oil pollutants in aquatic environments. By introducing polydopamine (PDA) onto the melamine sponge (MF) skeleton, incorporating high specific surface area Ni-MOF, and adding Fe 3 O 4 with magnetic driving capability, the material’s adsorption capacity toward MPs was enhanced. The HFNA achieved a maximum removal efficiency of 99.3 % for MPs and exhibited excellent removal performance for various oil pollutants, while its photothermal effect effectively reduced crude oil viscosity, improving adsorption efficiency. Subsequently, the adsorption mechanism of the material was further revealed through density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The analysis showed that Ni-MOF and MPs exhibit excellent HOMO-LUMO energy level matching, with a small energy gap (ΔE gap ), facilitating electron transfer from MPs to Ni-MOF. At the same time, electrostatic potential and charge distribution maps indicated the presence of multiple high electron affinity sites on the surfaces of Fe 3 O 4 and Ni-MOF, which help in the enrichment of MPs. Theoretical results were highly consistent with experimental data, establishing a complete correlation mechanism from electronic structure to adsorption performance and material construction, thus providing important theoretical support for the rational design of MOF-based adsorbent materials.

Phase change materials (PCMs) hold significant potential for thermal energy storage, yet their application is often hindered by leakage and structural instability. Therefore, a high molecular weight polyethylene glycol (HPEG)-based solid–solid phase change aerogel (SSPCA) is fabricated, exhibiting high stretchability and outstanding energy storage efficiency. More importantly, the solid–solid phase change process completely avoids leakage. After surface-modification with Ni 3 (2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11-hexaiminotriphenylene) 2 (Ni-HITP) metal-organic framework (MOF), the obtained nanofunctionalized SSPCA (HPA/Ni-HITP aerogel) is endowed with efficient photothermal conversion capability. HPA/Ni-HITP aerogel exhibits high encapsulation efficiency ( E en , 98.6%), phase change enthalpy (123.48 J g −1 ), low thermal conductivity (0.062 W m −1 K −1 ) and excellent mechanical property (elongation of 535%), thermal stability and reliability with outstanding shape-stability, and infrared light-thermal conversion and storage efficiency of 90.15%. Moreover, HPA/Ni-HITP aerogel presents distinctive thermal-induced shape memory and reconfigurability, enabling programmable transformations via thermal stimuli. These attractive features make HPA/Ni-HITP aerogel a potential material for flexible wearable thermal management, energy conversion storage, and shape programming applications, which provides a promising method for fabricating multifunctional solid–solid phase change aerogel without leakage.

Antibiotic wastewater presents serious challenges in water treatment . Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have received significant attention as promising precursors and sacrificial templates in the preparation of porous carbon-supported catalysts. Herein, we investigated the sulfamethoxazole (SMX) degradation and electrochemical performance of microbial fuel cells (MFCs) that applied as-prepared Ni-MOF-74 and Ni–N–C (Ni-MOF-74 underwent pyrolysis treatment at different temperatures) as air-cathode catalyst. Firstly, the electrocatalytic activity towards oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) of the catalyst was investigated by rotating disk electrode. The results showed that electron transfer number for Ni-MOF-74 was 2.12, while that of 800Ni–N–C was 3.44, which was close to four-electron reduction. Applying Ni-MOF-74 in MFCs, a maximum power density of 446 mW/m 2 was obtained, which was close to that of 800Ni–N–C. Besides, using Ni-MOF-74 as cathode catalyst, a chemical oxygen demand removal rate of about 84% was obtained, and the degradation rate of 10 mg/L SMX was 61%. The degradation rate decreased with increasing antibiotic concentration, but the average degradation efficiency increased stepwise. Additionally, the relative abundance of resistant gene sul1 in the reactors of the new catalytic material was about 62% lower than that of sul1 in the control (Pt/C) reactors, and the relative abundance of sul2 was about 73% lower. Moreover, cost assessments related to the catalyst performance are presented. The findings of this study demonstrated that Ni-MOF-74 could be considered as a two-electron transfer ORR catalyst, and offers a promising technique for preparation of Ni–N–C for use as four-electron transfer ORR catalysts. In comparison, Ni-MOF-74 could be a promising ORR catalyst of MFCs for antibiotic degradation.

Here we report a general approach for synthesizing size/morphology-controlled NH2-Ni-MOFs by optimizing the solvent composition in the reaction system, and their correlating catalytic performances are clearly explored for the first time. Interestingly, the electrocatalytic performance was found to increase 2.7 fold when the particle size is reduced from 1.5 μm for NH2-Ni-MOF(a) to 300 nm for NH2-Ni-MOF(c). Subsequently, this work exhibits an example of a high-performance NH2-Ni-MOF(c) electrocatalyst for application in constructing an electrochemical aptasensor to achieve sensitive C-reactive protein (CRP) detection based on an aptamer binding induced DNA walker–antibody sandwich assay. The proposed aptasensor shows a wide linear range from 0.1 pg mL−1 to 100 ng mL−1 with a low detection limit of 0.029 pg mL−1. The work presented here can thus offer an atypical approach to size- and morphology-controlled MOFs in electrocatalysis and biosensing.

Herein, we explore the potential of innovative manufacturing techniques based on green chemistry principles, for the fabrication of convenient, performant, and stable supported photocatalysts to be used for water depollution. After giving some insight into the use of fractal geometry for the fabrication of tunable polymer supports for photocatalysts, we investigated the use of liquid crystal display (LCD) 3D printing to generate the fractal resin substrates to be used for the immobilization of semiconductor photocatalysts. Notably, confocal laser imaging was used as a first attempt for assessing the surface area of the fractal substrate. Immobilization methods based on cold plasma discharge (CPD) were employed to modify the surface of the polymer substrates and permanently anchor three different phases, namely, nickel-based metal–organic framework (Ni-MOF), BiOI, and AgVO3, in a hierarchical configuration. Herein, for the first time, we developed a plasma-initiated condensed in situ complexation-assisted precipitation (c-ISCAP) method that allowed 2D Ni-MOF to be synthesized directly onto the surface of a polymer substrate, in a single step. Not only this MOF coating was found to be strongly bound to the surface of the polymer substrate but also very uniform and fully functional, even when other inorganic phases were immobilized on the top of this layer. This chemical approach opens the way for the fabrication of hybrid materials with complex polymer substrates and MOF coatings that could be used in a range of possible applications, for instance as chemical sensors, electrodes, adsorbents, optical devices, etc. Our hybrid photocatalysts were tested via photodegradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye upon visible light activation, with recycling runs to assess their durability. It was found that the hierarchical heterojunction Ni-MOF/BiOI/AgVO3 showed an outstanding ability for the removal of RhB dye, owing to the activity of the Ni-MOF layer in terms of charge transfer, and also partly because of its adsorbing potential. The three photoactive phases demonstrated a strong synergistic effect through coupling. However, more importantly, our findings show that their immobilization itself, regardless of the method used, significantly modified their optoelectronic properties, hence most likely changing the overall mechanism of charge transfer in the heterojunction. The Ni-MOF phase, notably, was found to display a reduced bandgap when obtained by c-ISCAP, which contributed to enhance its activation by visible light irradiation. Finally, it was established that the fractal geometry had a significant impact on the efficiency of the supported catalysts, probably thanks to an increased immobilization ratio of photocatalyst mostly, owing to the larger surface area available.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have received significant attention as promising precursors or sacrificial templates in the preparation of porous carbon supported catalysts. In this study, N-doped porous carbon supported Ni catalysts (denoted as Ni/NC) were prepared using furfuryl alcohol (FA) loaded Ni-MOF-74 as the precursor followed by NH 4 OH treatment and pyrolysis under N 2 atmosphere. For comparison purpose, Ni catalysts supported on porous carbon (denoted as Ni/C) were also prepared by direct pyrolysis of Ni-MOF-74. The selective gas phase catalytic hydrodechlorination of 1,2-dichloroethane to ethylene was carried out to evaluate the catalytic performances of the catalysts. It was found that for Ni catalysts prepared at the same pyrolysis temperature, Ni particle sizes in Ni/NC catalysts were significantly smaller (20–40% smaller) than that of Ni/C. This reflected that pre-modification of Ni-MOF-74 using FA and NH 4 OH could effectively increase Ni dispersion in Ni catalysts derived from Ni-MOF-74. Moreover, Ni/NC had a markedly stronger ability to form spillover H 2 owing to the enhanced metal-support interactions by N-doping. Accordingly, Ni/NC catalysts exhibited much higher catalytic activities than Ni/C catalysts. The turnover frequencies of Ni/NC catalysts were found to be 1.22–1.65 times higher than Ni/C catalysts. Increasing pyrolysis temperature led to decreased catalytic activities of both Ni/C and Ni/NC catalysts, due to the aggregation of Ni particles at higher treatment temperature. The findings from this study demonstrate that the MOF-mediated synthesis method offers a promising way to prepare Ni-based catalysts for catalytic hydrodechlorination of chlorinated hydrocarbons .

The use of a metal-organic framework (MOF) confinement strategy to achieve controllable growth and even allocation of magnetic metal nanoparticles (NPs) in carbon nanofibers (CNFs) can significantly improve the microwave absorption performance of absorbers. Herein, we constructed Ni-MOF in the spinning solution and prepared Ni/CNFs with confined structures using electrospinning combined with carbon thermal reduction. The microstructure of Ni/CNFs was regulated by adjusting the amount of organic ligands added. Ni NPs with single domain size and uniform allocation could optimize impedance matching and enhance electromagnetic synergistic effects, which was beneficial for enhancing microwave absorption performance. When the additional amount of organic ligands was 4 wt%, the absorber reached the optimal microwave absorption performance as the filling ratio was only 3 wt%, the minimum reflection loss ( RL ) reached –24.9 dB at 13.6 GHz when the thickness was 2.0 mm, and the effective bandwidth (EBW) attained 5.22 GHz. In addition, the excellent hydrophobic performance of nanofibers (NFs) endowed them with potential self-cleaning functions. In addition, to verify the practical application value of the prepared samples in radar stealth technology, we used computer simulation technology (CST) to simulate the samples. Therefore, this work provides a new approach for the controllable preparation of novel magnetic metal/carbon fiber-based absorbers, and also provides a model reference for the controllable growth of magnetic metal particles in the carbon thermal reduction reaction process.

Olaquindox (OLA) in food from its illegal use possesses great harmful effects on humans, making it important to develop sensitive, inexpensive, and convenient methods for OLA detection. This study innovatively presented a molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor based on the synergistic effects of nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots ( N -GQDs) and a nickel-based metal–organic framework functionalized with silver nanoparticles (Ag/Ni-MOF) for OLA detection. N -GQDs and Ag/Ni-MOF with unique honeycomb structures were sequentially modified on the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface to accelerate the electron transfer rate and increase the available region of the electrode. Molecularly imprinted polymers were further grown on the Ag/Ni-MOF/ N -GQDs/GCE by electropolymerization to significantly enhance the selective recognition of OLA. The constructed sensor showed excellent performance for selective OLA determination, with a wide linear range (5–600 nmol·L -1 ) and exceedingly low detection limit (2.2 nmol·L -1 ). The sensor was successfully applied to detect OLA in animal-origin food with satisfactory recoveries (96.22–101.02%).
