Since wearable pressure sensors have promising applications in the fields of human physiological signal detection and bionic robots, there is an urgent need for wearable pressure sensors with comprehensive attributes such as high sensitivity and wide detection range. Here, we introduce a facile electrospinning process to fabricate a film composed of thermoplastic polyurethane/carboxyl multiwalled carbon nanotube/V 2 CT X -MXene (TPU/c-MWCNTs/V 2 C). This film has high sensitivity and great linearity, designed for flexible piezoresistive sensors. To further enhance sensor performance, we applied a spin-coating of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) on the sandpaper surface to create a top substrate with intermittent spinosum structures. Additionally, a layer of TPU fibers was electrospun between the conductive film and the interdigitated electrodes. The assembled components form a flexible piezoresistive sensor with a wide detection range of 0–200 kPa, a high sensitivity of 545.2 kPa −1 , a low detection limit of 5 Pa, a short response time of 48 ms, and excellent long-term durability after 7000 loading/unloading cycles, making the piezoresistive sensor highly discriminating for detecting complex human movements. Thanks to the great sensing performance and stable structure, we conducted various demonstrations to capture human physiological signals, including signals of muscle activity and pulse. These findings indicate the potential of the designed flexible pressure sensor for applications in electronic skin and smart devices.

The application of solar interfacial evaporation technology in clean water production has garnered increasing attention in recent years, with thin-film evaporation being considered one of the most efficacious strategies to address the growing demand for high evaporation rates at moderate temperatures. This investigation presents the design of a Janus nanofiber film based on a self-pumping effect, comprising a hydrophobic layer (TPU) and a hydrophilic layer (PVA-(ε-PL)@MXene). This structure creates a self-pumping effect that promotes unidirectional transfer of liquids, effectively increasing water transfer efficiency and evaporation, achieving a maximum evaporation rate of 1.56 kg m–2 h–1 while maintaining 1.52 kg m–2 h–1 after multiple cycles. This Janus nanofiber film exhibits high performance in the 200–2500 nm range, demonstrating strong light absorption with an absorption efficiency of 87.69%, and rapidly increasing from room temperature to 57.8 °C in 3 min under 1 kW m–2. Furthermore, TPU/PVA-(ε-PL)@MXene exhibited substantial antimicrobial activity against E. coli (89.77%) and S. aureus (53.96%), attributed to the inhibitory effect of ε-PL on the biosynthesis of proteins and enzymatic biomolecules.

An engineered hydrogel-filled TPU metamaterial was designed for 128 Hz isolation. • A double-network hydrogel enabled viscoelastic dissipative tuning. • Final matching depended on resonance placement, hydrogel stiffness, and loss response. • Two-stage refinement yielded a manufacturable TPU 95A HF/SA/PAAm-3 design. • A representative test reached −45.2 dB at 128 Hz and < − 35 dB over 99–149 Hz. Persistent narrow-band vibration near 128 Hz at the flight-controller mounting region presents a critical challenge for compact passive isolation under structural-support constraints in engine-driven agricultural UAVs. Here, we report a target-frequency-oriented engineering strategy for a bone-inspired hydrogel-filled TPU metamaterial that integrates a 3D-printed supporting thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) lattice with a viscoelastic double-network hydrogel infill. Rather than relying solely on geometric band-gap tuning or bulk hydrogel damping, this framework couples experimentally parameterized hydrogel relaxation with dry-lattice resonance placement and manufacturability correction to match a prescribed operating frequency. In this engineered polymer composite, the TPU skeleton defines the local-resonance architecture, whereas the hydrogel phase provides relaxation-mediated dissipative tuning. Three dry TPU lattices were first screened, and TPU 90A, whose first band gap lay closest to the target-frequency region, was selected as a model scaffold to establish a hydrogel-dependent tuning rule. Comparative studies of SA/PAAm-3, PVA/PAAm-3, and PVA/PAAm(Gly)-2, together with dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and stress-relaxation-based viscoelastic characterization, revealed that final target matching is governed not by band gap downshift alone, but by the interplay among lattice-defined resonance placement, hydrogel stiffness, loss response, and relaxation-mediated dissipation. Guided by this principle, a second-stage target-matched refinement was performed on the TPU 95A HF/SA/PAAm-3 composite by further optimizing the skeleton parameters. The final manufacturability-corrected structure exhibited a first band gap covering 128 Hz in a subwavelength regime ( a / λ s = 0.0735 ). In a representative transmissibility test, the final structure maintained transmissibility below − 20 dB over 91–172 Hz and below − 35 dB over 99–149 Hz, reaching − 45.2 dB at the target frequency. These results provide an experimentally parameterized material–structure collaborative framework for engineering manufacturable hydrogel-filled polymer metamaterials under prescribed dynamic-performance constraints.

A novel spinning method that integrates electrospun nanofiber strips into yarn structures has been developed to produce multifunctional yarns. The resulting yarn exhibited a core-sheath structure, with a core composed of tannic acid-modified magnesium hydroxide/thermoplastic polyurethane (TA@MH/TPU) nanofiber strip, sheathed by either pure cotton or cotton/sodium alginate blended fibers. The TA modification improved the dispersion of MH within the TPU matrix, leading to enhanced membrane strength compared to unmodified MH/TPU at equal loadings. The film containing 7% TA@MH/TPU demonstrated optimal mechanical properties (breaking strength of 1.43 MPa, elongation of 122.93%), flame retardancy (limiting oxygen index of 27.1%), and antibacterial efficacy killing ratios of 80.87% against E. coli and 85.07% against S. aureus . Yarns fabricated with this film, the TA@MH/TPU-cotton (CMSCY) retained the antibacterial functionality (67.48% against E. coli and 79.05% against S. aureus ), and the TA@MH/TPU-cotton/sodium alginate (C/SAMSCY) achieved the flame retardancy with a limiting oxygen index of 27.8%. Notably, the CMSCY yarn showed a high tensile strength of 1.53 MPa, which was 15 times that of the TA@MH/TPU nanofiber film, addressing the application limitations of nanofiber membranes caused by their low mechanical strength. Given that electrospun membranes can be readily functionalized, this spinning method offers a promising strategy for producing composite yarns, particularly for developing multifunctional textile fabrics.

In this study, a superhydrophobic anti-icing coating with a gradient cross-linking structure and low surface energy was constructed by using polyurethane (TPU) as the interfacial reinforcing phase, and through the synergistic effect of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and stearic acid-modified zinc oxide (SA-ZnO). The experimental results of TPU-13SZPC coating show that: the static contact angle of the composite coating reaches 158.6 ± 0.8°; the icing time of surface water droplets is delayed to 612 s at −15 ℃, which is 970 % higher than that of pure TPU. In addition, the coating maintained a contact angle > 150° after 30 times of sandpaper abrasion and 24 h of acid and alkali corrosion, demonstrating excellent mechanical and chemical stability. Mechanistic analysis revealed that molecular dynamics (MD) simulations demonstrated changes in the relative concentration of water molecules on the surfaces of different TPU-SZPC coatings, confirming the hydrophobic effects of varying TPU-SZPC ratios. The synergistic effects of micro-nano multi-level structures and photothermal performance significantly suppressed ice nucleation formation. Additionally, density functional theory (DFT) confirmed that PDMS-modified MWCNTs exhibit superior photothermal conversion performance. As the content of PDMS-modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes increases, the overall photothermal performance of the coating is enhanced. This study provides new insights for the development of long-lasting anti-icing/de-icing materials under extreme environmental conditions.

Conductive ionogels are emerging materials for next-generation sensing systems in flexible electronics. However, fabricating conductive ionogels with the ideal combination of stretchability, breathability, comfort, and multi-sensing capabilities remains a significant challenge. In this study, we developed fibrous films of an ionogel-based nanofiber composite incorporating ionic liquid (IL), polyurethane (TPU), and few-layer black phosphorus (BP) using electrospinning. The synergistic effects of dipole-dipole interactions and physical entanglement in these nanofiber films resulted in high tensile strength (16.91 MPa), strong elasticity, and excellent air permeability (200.60 g m −2 , 24 h). The incorporation of BP significantly enhanced the sensitivity of the films, as indicated by the increase in gauge factor (GF) from 1.37 to 3.87. Furthermore, these films demonstrated excellent sensing stability and efficient temperature sensing, attributed to the negative temperature coefficient of IL. These properties enable the films to accurately detect human activities under ambient conditions, offering promising applications in flexible smart electronics.

To solve the problem of soft composites with high puncture resistance and self-healing at ambient temperature. A room-temperature self-healing thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) coating was successfully synthesized through thoughtful phase modulation, and a type of puncture-resistant composite material was innovatively prepared by compositing TPU with high-performance aramid fabrics. The self-healing TPU coating formed a strong matrix-fiber interface through intermolecular hydrogen bonding (H-bonds) with aramid fibers. Experimental results showed that the maximum spike-puncture force and maximum knife-stab force of the composite were 14.69 and 4.22 times higher than those of pure aramid fabrics, respectively. And the self-healing efficiency of the spike stab resistance is as high as 44.91% and the self-healing efficiency of the knife stab is as high as 66.98% after 48h at 30 °C. Moreover, the room-temperature dynamics of the multiple dynamic bonds in this self-healing TPU coating positively affected the composite, which acquired an excellent ability to resist the damage inflicted by the knife-tip intrusion excellently. In conclusion, this study provided methods of researching multifunctional individual soft-stabbing protection equipment.

This work presents a multifunctional composite film with integrated photothermal and electrothermal conversion, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, and active de-icing capabilities, fabricated via electrospinning combined with layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly. Polydopamine (PDA)-modified thermoplastic polyurethane nanofiber membranes (PDA@TPU) served as the substrate. Synergistic interaction with sodium alginate (SA) enabled the layer-by-layer self-assembly of molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) onto the substrate surface. Subsequent Ca 2+ drop-addition reaction cross-linking ultimately formed a robust and stable coating. The PDA and SA layers significantly enhance interfacial adhesion between the conductive fillers (MoS₂/CNTs) and the polymer matrix, ensuring mechanical durability and efficient thermal conversion. The resulting five-layer film exhibits excellent performance: a photothermal temperature rise of 69.2 °C under 1 sun irradiation (100 mW/cm 2 ), electrothermal heating exceeding 80 °C at 7 V, and an EMI shielding effectiveness of 33.8 dB in the X-band. Notably, this film exhibits outstanding durability, with its electrical conductivity remaining virtually unchanged after repeated washing. Under dual photothermal and electrothermal stimulation (1 sun +7 V), the film can completely melt surface ice within 60 s, effectively preventing electromagnetic shielding efficiency degradation caused by ice accumulation. The layer-by-layer self-assembly technique based on PDA and SA systems offers a novel strategy for fabricating multifunctional composite films with outstanding comprehensive properties, demonstrating broad application prospects.

In the polymer blends , strength is usually compromised to toughness after feeding the specialty additives and/or toughening agents. Herein, the functional Janus nanosheets (JNSs) with grafting PU chains and epoxide groups on the opposite sides of the silica nanosheets have been synthesized successfully, denoted as PU-SiO 2 -epoxy JNSs. The functional JNSs as the compatibilizers are incorporated into the typical toughened polylactic acid/thermoplastic polyurethane (PLLA/TPU) blend. In the melt blending process, PLLA chains were in situ grafted onto the side of JNSs with the reaction between epoxide groups on the JNSs and the carboxyl acid groups of the PLLA. Notably, the obtained PU-SiO 2 -PLLA JNSs preferred to assembled at the interface owing to the amphiphilicity and Pickering effect. The interfacial adhesion was greatly enhanced via the selective chain entanglement between grafted chains on the JNSs and blending parts. At 1.0 wt % JNSs loading, the elongation at break increased from 31.4 ± 2.3% to 362.6 ± 19.7% and the modulus increased from 1.0 ± 0.02 GPa to 1.9 ± 0.03 GPa. The JNSs jammed at the interface can act as the stiff shell outside the TPU island which is beneficial for transferring stress under external force. The impact strength reached nearly 100% enhancement after feeding 1.0 wt% JNS. This report provides a new possibility to realize synchronously toughening and strengthening of the polymer blends with the functional Janus nanosheets.

Traditional rigid sensors often lack sufficient flexibility, while pure poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) piezoelectric materials suffer from limited β-phase content and suboptimal mechanical properties. To address these challenges, we synthesized WO₃@UiO-66-NH₂ heterojunction materials via a hydrothermal method and integrated them with electrospinning technology to fabricate flexible TPU/PVDF composite piezoelectric sensor films. Characterization and performance evaluation identified an optimal PVDF-to-TPU mass ratio of 8:2. Moreover, incorporation of 0.5 wt% WO₃@UiO-66-NH₂ yielded the highest β-phase content in PVDF, along with enhanced dielectric properties, energy storage density, and piezoelectric output. The resulting flexible piezoelectric sensor demonstrates a sensitivity of 1.87 V/N, with response and recovery times of 40 ms and 140 ms, respectively. It reliably monitors diverse human activities and physiological signals, including wrist and knee joint flexion, vocalization, swallowing, respiration, and grasping. Combining excellent flexibility, high sensitivity, and rapid response, this sensor shows considerable promise for applications in human health monitoring and motion detection.

Developing flexible textiles with effective electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is highly attractive for wearable devices and electronic protection applications. However, achieving both excellent flame retardancy and EMI shielding performance in flexible textile systems remains a great challenge due to the inherent flammability of textiles and the poor durability of modified coatings. In this work, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) incorporating a metal–organic framework-encapsulated ammonium polyphosphate (APP@ZrCu-MOF) and short carbon fibers serves as the outer layers. The polyester (PET) fabric modified by the alternating deposition of MXene and reduced graphene oxide is used as the intermediate layer. These components are assembled into a flexible multilayer composite by employing an air-assisted hot-pressing technique. Among the prepared composites, TMS4P3 exhibits markedly improved fire safety, which has a high limiting oxygen index of 29.5%. Compared with the unmodified PET/TPU composite, the peak heat release rate, total heat release, peak smoke production rate, and total smoke release of TMS4P3 decrease by 44.9, 41.4, 60.0, and 42.7%, respectively. In addition, TMS4P3 exhibits average EMI shielding effectiveness values of 30.4 and 31.9 dB in the X and Ku bands, respectively. This study provides a promising approach for broadening the applications of PET fabrics and TPU and offers an effective strategy for the fabrication of multifunctional flexible composites.

Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) were used as sacrificial polymer chaperone adhesives to prepare porous flexible free-standing electrodes. The prepared electrode has excellent flexibility, and the surface porous structure realizes porous channels for electrolyte, which fully ensures the infiltration of electrolyte in the electrode, so that the electrochemical performance is comparable to that of a conventional coated electrode. Ketjen black carbon (abbreviated KB) and carbon nanofibers (CNF) offer a good electronic conductive network in this electrode, while PAN forms a free-standing skeleton and TPU provides flexible components and sacrificial templates. The method utilized is universal for commercial electrode materials and has excellent practical value. The prepared electrode has an area density of more than 10 mg cm −2 (20 mg cm -2 can be achieved by adjusting the slurry ratio), which is equivalent to the area density of current commercial coating electrodes. The electrode with NCM523 as active material exhibits the same electrochemical performance as traditional coated electrodes, deliver a high charge capacity 150.0 mAh g −1 (10.0 mg cm −2 ) after 100 cycles at 0.2 C.
