With the development of radar stealth technology and electronic communication technology, electromagnetic (EM) wave absorbing materials with lightweight and broad absorbing bandwidth are widely expected. In this study, the multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)/reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/polypyrrole (PPy) ternary composites were prepared by in-situ polymerization under hydrothermal conditions. The effects of carbon substrate of MWCNTs/rGO and the content of PPy on the microwave absorption (MWA) properties of the ternary composites and the corresponding attenuation mechanism were investigated. The results showed that MWCNTs and rGO nanosheets interweave together to form a relatively uniform micro-network structure with even wrapping of PPy on the surface of MWCNTs/rGO substrate. The adjustable amount of PPy optimizes the impedance matching and EM wave attenuation capacity. The composites achieve effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 4.6 GHz at 2.1 mm, and the minimum reflection loss (RL min ) value of −57 dB at 15.8 GHz. The multi-void network structures formed by MWCNTs and lamellar rGO and the interfacial polarization between MWCNTs/rGO composite carbon substrate and PPy can effectively decay EM wave absorption, thus improving the MWA performance of the composites. This work provides an effective reference for the application of multi-component carbon composites in the field of microwave absorption.

The fabrication and functionalization of three-dimensional (3D) MXene are vital for diverse high-performance applications. Herein, the construction of 3D porous MXene architecture and its functionalization with graphene are synchronously implemented by breath figure method. 3D porous rGO/MXene with multi-scale pores is prepared by simply casting the mixture of GO/surfactant and MXene/surfactant solution under humid environment and the subsequent reduction process. The aggregation inhibition of GO and MXene nanosheets at multi-scale caused by surfactant intercalation and the formation of 3D porous structure, as well as the increase in surface area induced by the introduction of GO, enlarged lamellar spacing and multi-scale porous structure endow porous rGO/MXene with excellent electrochemical performance. The synergy of rGO and MXene leads to further improvement in electrochemical property and its stability. Low detection limit, good anti-interference, repeatability, reproducibility, long-range stability and accuracy of actual sample testing are exhibited when porous rGO/MXene is used for electrochemical detection of DA. Furthermore, the electrochemical performance could be controlled via tuning the porous structure and ratio of GO and MXene. This study not only demonstrates the superiority of porous rGO/MXene toward electrochemical sensing, but also proposes a simple and universal method for controllable construction and functionalization of 3D MXene architecture. Binary transition-metal oxides with spinel structure have great potential as advanced anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Herein, NiFe-NiFe 2 O 4 / reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composites are obtained via a facile cyanometallic framework precursor strategy to improve the lithium storage performance of NiFe 2 O 4 . In the composites, NiFe-NiFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles with adjustable mass ratios of NiFe 2 O 4 to NiFe alloy are homogeneously deposited on rGO sheets. As anode material for LIBs, the optimized NiFe-NiFe 2 O 4 /rGO composite displays remarkably enhanced lithium storage performance with an initial specific capacity as high as 1362 mAh g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 and a decent capacity retention of ca . 80% after 130 cycles. Besides, the composite delivers a reversible capacity of 550 mAh g −1 at 1 A g −1 after 300 cycles. During the charge–discharge cycles, the aggregation of the NiFe-NiFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles and the structural collapse of the electrode can be well alleviated by rGO sheets. Moreover, the conductivity of the electrode can be significantly improved by the well-conductive NiFe alloy and rGO sheets. All these contribute to the improved lithium storage performance of NiFe-NiFe 2 O 4 /rGO composites.

Graphical PEC water splitting : A novel FeOOH/rGO/BiVO 4 photoanode was prepared for the first time with excellent PEC performance in which rGO as a hole-transporting layer significantly enhanced carrier separation efficiencies and FeOOH greatly accelerated the water oxidation kinetics. Bismuth vanadate (BiVO 4 ) is regarded as a potential material in photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting, but the photocurrent of BiVO 4 photoanode is much lower than its theoretical value for the high recombination of photo-induced charges and slow water oxidation kinetics. Here, we constructed a FeOOH/rGO/BiVO 4 photoanode, in which rGO could enhance the photogenerated electron-hole separation efficiency by transporting holes and the FeOOH could greatly accelerate the water oxidation kinetics. This novel photoanode displayed excellent PEC performance with the photocurrent density of 3.25 mA cm −2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE, 3.28 times higher than BiVO 4 photoanode (0.99 mA cm −2 ), and long-term stability with the Faraday efficiency of ∼98 % for 3 hours, demonstrating its great potential for PEC water splitting. The photoanode also provided a novel insight into the role of rGO to transport holes rather than electrons in improving the carrier separation efficiency.

Abstract Solar-driven interfacial desalination has been emerged as a promising water treatment technology to generate drinkable water out of seawater. The accumulated salt crystals generated from seawater, however, have adverse effects on solar-driven interfacial evaporation. In this work, we prepared a salt-rejecting reduced graphene oxide (rGO) foam by depositing rGO particles on a hydrophilic melamine foam for solar desalination. Benefitting from the intrinsic porous microstructure and hydrophilicity, the rGO-coated melamine foam has sufficient wettability to draw water to the evaporation region, leading to rapid replenishment of water and simultaneously avoiding salt precipitation. Based on the rGO-coated melamine foam, the interfacial evaporation system can achieve a steady-state evaporation efficiency of 89.6% under a solar flux of 1 kW m −2 and has good durability under one sun over 12 h. With the high solar-to-thermal conversion efficiency and excellent long-term stability, this interfacial evaporation system exhibits the potential of commercial seawater desalination. Methylparaben (MeP), as emerging contaminants widely used in pharmaceuticals and personal care products , have potential endocrine disrupting effect. In this study, the copper ferrite (CuFe 2 O 4 ) nanoparticles were uniformly distributed on graphene oxide (GO), and the performance and mechanism of CuFe 2 O 4 -rGO composites in activating persulfate (PS) for MeP degradation were comprehensively investigated. Results showed that the CuFe 2 O 4 -rGO composites exhibited much better efficiency for MeP degradation than CuFe 2 O 4 , and the synergistic effect between CuFe 2 O 4 and GO in CuFe 2 O 4 -rGO composite was also observed. The best catalytic performance of CuFe 2 O 4 -rGO composites was obtained at the mass ratio of 4:1 for CuFe 2 O 4 to GO and at neutral pH. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results suggested that graphene in the composites mainly served as an electron shuttle to mediate electron transfer reactions. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and the quenching experiments further revealed that both hydroxyl and sulfate radicals were the major reactive species, and non-radical process also occurred during the reaction. Meanwhile, the degradation pathways of MeP involving hydroxylation, decarbonylation and ring opening were rationally proposed based on computational method and intermediates identification. All these results could provide insight into persulfate activation by CuFe 2 O 4 -rGO nanocomposites in environmental control applications.

In this paper, high thermal conductive polyethylene oxide (PEO)/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composite is prepared via large-scale green reduction. Flexible layered PEO/GO composites are pre-prepared in aqueous solution. It is demonstrated that PEO chains can form hydrogen bonds with GO. Being driven by hydrogen bonds, GO/PEO composites show homogeneous and lateral highly oriented structures, resulting in excellent mechanical properties. The pre-prepared composite films are large scale soaked into ascorbic acid solution. GO nanosheets in the matrix of the composites can be reduced by ascorbic acid. The results indicate that PEO chains can repair the damage of the films caused by the reduction process. Therefore, the films can maintain their original configuration and still keep excellent flexibility. By comparison, pristine GO films are totally destroyed when the same reduction is experienced. Due to the presence of PEO, the lateral highly oriented structure of the composite will not be damaged. After reduction, the thermal conductivity of the composite reaches to 12.03 W m−1K−1along the rGO nanosheet oriented direction. Keywords:thermal conductivity;graphene;polyethylene oxide

A novel multifunctional reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/Fe 3 O 4 /PDDA/CdSe nanocomposite has been successfully prepared and used as probe for an electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensor of human interleukin-6 (IL-6). The prepared RGO/Fe 3 O 4 /PDDA/CdSe nanocomposite was characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) absorption spectroscopy , and a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). This nanocomposite shows magnetism, ECL properties, and good biocompatibility. Furthermore, the RGO/Fe 3 O 4 /PDDA/CdSe nanomaterial was applied to develop an ultrasensitive ECL immunosensor for detection of IL-6. The ECL intensity decreased linearly with the IL-6 concentrations in the range 0.002 to 20 ng/mL. Furthermore, the developed ECL immunosensor with high sensitivity, stability and excellent reproducibility can be used for detection of real samples, which make it possible to be used in clinical detection.

The incomplete reduction of graphene oxide (GO) yields reduced graphene oxide (rGO), characterized by a zero band gap and intrinsic layer stacking, thus constraining its practical utility across diverse domains. Fortunately, this challenge can be effectively addressed by employing a suitable substrate for the fabrication of MoS2/rGO heterostructures. Nanocomposites of MoS2/reduced graphene oxide (MoS2/rGO-700W and MoS2/rGO-560W) were synthesized using MoS2 and GO solutions as starting materials through microwave-assisted synthesis with microwave power treatments of 700W and 560W, respectively. Structural characterization results reveal that the particle size of MoS2 within the composites is notably smaller compared to that of pure MoS2. The MoS2/rGO-700W composite demonstrates a more homogeneous dispersion of MoS2 and features a well-developed hierarchical porous structure with increased pore volume and specific surface area. The MoS2/rGO-700W composite demonstrates elevated ID/IG ratio, C/O ratio and C = C peak area, suggesting that increased microwave power enhances the removal of oxygen-containing groups from rGO. This process significantly restores the extended conjugated structure of graphene, thereby offering enhanced conductivity at the MoS2 interface. Furthermore, the proposed strategy holds considerable theoretical value and provides significant insights for the development process of novel MoS2-based composite electrode materials.

The 2D nanomaterial has been widely used in the field of electromagnetic wave absorption because of its high specific surface area and special electrical properties. In this work, three 2D materials were integrated to form a unique ternary composite with Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene as the substrate, RGO as the intercalator with additional components, and CoFe-LDH loaded on the MXene/RGO surface. The interfacial and dipole polarizations were notably enhanced due to the abundant formation of heterogeneous interfaces between the three 2D materials and their corresponding abundant functional groups and defects, and the space between the 2D lamellae enabled multiple reflections of electromagnetic waves. Compared with pure MXene, the MXene/RGO/CoFe-LDH composites exhibited excellent electromagnetic wave absorption performance due to the synergy of multiple loss mechanisms, resulting in the best reflection loss value of −58.9 dB at 13.12 GHz.

Novel 2D material-based supercapacitors are promising candidates for energy applications due to their distinctive physical, chemical, and electrochemical properties. In this study, a dandelion-like structure material comprised of Sm2O3, Co3O4, and 2D reduced graphene oxide (rGO) on nickel foam (NF) was synthesised using a hydrothermal method followed by subsequent annealing treatment. This dandelion composite grows further through the tremella-like structure of Sm2O3 and Co3O4, which facilitates the diffusion of ions and prevents structural collapse during charging and discharging. A substantial number of active sites are generated during redox reactions by the unique surface morphology of the Sm2O3/Co3O4/rGO/NF composite (SCGN). The maximum specific capacity the SCGN material achieves is 3448 F g−1 for 1 A g−1 in a 6 mol L−1 KOH solution. Benefiting from its morphological structure, the prepared composite (SCGN) exhibits a high cyclability of 93.2% over 3000 charge–discharge cycles at 10 A g−1 and a coulombic efficiency of 97.4%. Additionally, the assembled SCGN//SCGN symmetric supercapacitors deliver a high energy density of 64 W h kg−1 with a power density of 300 W kg−1, which increases to an outstanding power density of 12 000 W kg−1 at 28.7 W h kg−1 and long cycle stability (80.9% capacitance retention after 30 000 cycles). These results suggest that the manufactured SCGN electrodes could be viable active electrode materials for electrochemical supercapacitors.

In this study, series of rGO/SnO 2 nanocomposites were synthesized with hydrothermal method by mixing graphene oxide (GO) solution and pre-prepared SnO 2 quantum dot solution. The phase structure and morphology of the as-obtained rGO/SnO 2 nanocomposites were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV–vis absorption spectrums, Raman spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) technique. The detailed investigation of gas-sensing properties of rGO/SnO 2 nanocomposites-based sensors exhibited that the gas response of SnO 2 -based sensors to ethanol gas increased with the addition of GO, especially when the GO dosage reached 3.3 wt%, which revealed the highest response value of 48.34–50 ppm ethanol gas at 120 °C. Besides, it also displayed an excellent selectivity, good repeatability and long-time stability. The mechanism of rGO functionalized SnO 2 and enhanced ethanol gas sensing property at relative low temperature was proposed.
