Abuse situations such as overheating, overcharging, mechanical damage, and short circuits can lead to thermal runaway of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Thermal runaway propagation (TRP) in LIB modules remains a critical safety bottleneck for electric vehicles. Conventional insulation materials often fail to balance high-temperature stability, processability, and cost-effectiveness. Pure SiO₂ aerogels suffer from brittleness and sintering collapse above 600 °C, while high-performance aerogels typically rely on expensive supercritical drying. In this study, using aluminum chloride hexahydrate (AlCl 3 ·6H 2 O) and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as raw materials (Al: Si molar ratio = 3:1), we prepared low-density, high-specific-surface-area, and thermally stable monolithic Al₂O₃- SiO₂ composite aerogels (ASA) under ambient pressure drying by optimizing the amount of propylene oxide (PO) gelling aid to 60 ml. This optimization overcomes the long-standing challenge of poor monolithic integrity in atmospheric-pressure dried aerogels while reducing production costs. Another novelty lies in the formation of stable Al-O-Si bonds in ASA, which endow the material with exceptional high-temperature resistance: the ASA maintained a high specific surface area (92.8259 m 2 /g) even after calcination at 1000 °C, far outperforming pure SiO₂ aerogels By introducing aramid fiber felt (AF) and pre-oxidized fiber felt (PF) as mechanical reinforcements, the thermal stability of the composite materials was further enhanced, forming a “nano-micro” interpenetrating structure that synergistically improves mechanical robustness and insulation performance. The thermal conductivity of ASA at 25 °C was 0.0222 W/m·K, while the PF-ASA exhibited a thermal conductivity of 0.0672 W/m·K at 500 °C and retained structural integrity after being exposed to 1200 °C, maintaining effective insulation performance. Additionally, in the thermal insulation application of battery modules, the pre-oxidized fiber insulation group demonstrates the ability to prevent heat spread, with released CO 2 and consumed O 2 reduced by 38.6% and 33.8% respectively, thereby lowering the risk of thermal runaway. The production of advanced thermal insulation materials represents a preferred solution for thermal safety protection in power batteries.

During well construction and reservoir development, polymer adsorption, plugging and retention in heterogeneous reservoirs can seriously hinder fluid injection and oil and gas production. In this study, we used α-amylase as a typical enzyme and designed a novel nano-SiO 2 /enzyme composite to achieve controlled degradation of targeted polymers in reservoirs. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and N 2 adsorption-desorption analysis confirmed successful encapsulation of α-amylase within nano-SiO 2 aggregates, albeit at the expense of the material specific surface area and pore volume. Performance evaluation revealed that the composites demonstrated exceptional specificity in degrading three common starch-based polymers (carboxymethyl starch, hydroxypropyl starch, and crosslinking starch) used in oilfields, achieving degradation efficiencies ( D e ) consistently above 95 %. Degradation kinetics analysis further demonstrated that increasing nano-SiO 2 content and pH led to a decrease in the reaction rate constant ( k , min -1 ) and a corresponding extension of the enzyme delayed-release time (half-life, t 1/2 ), whereas higher temperatures induced the opposite effect. Our results provide new insights into controllable enzyme degradation under reservoir conditions and provide a platform strategy for future development of enzyme degradation, including those effective toward acrylamide-based polymers.

This study constructs an immobilized phospholipase system based on mesoporous silicon-based Janus microspheres and validates its exceptional performance in efficient interfacial biocatalysis. This system employs a Janus nanocarrier (HMSS-NH2-C8-Janus). The carrier was functionalized via a Pickering emulsion strategy, which grafted hydrophilic amino groups and hydrophobic octyl groups onto opposite hemispheres. This well-designed amphiphilicity not only facilitates effective immobilization of phospholipase B (PLB) but, more importantly, enables the resulting PLB@HMSS-NH2-C8-Janus to act as an excellent stabilizer for Pickering emulsions. Within this emulsion system, the biocatalyst spontaneously anchors at the oil–water interface, forming a dense, high activity monolayer that optimally orients the enzyme for substrate interaction. When applied to the model reaction of enzymatic degumming of rapeseed oil, the system achieved a degumming efficiency of 96.6% and a 99% oil recovery. At the same time, the residual phosphorus content after degumming in this system was 1.8–2.3 times lower than that of free PLB and homogeneous carrier immobilized enzyme. Furthermore, it exhibited excellent reusability and achieved a 96% degumming efficiency after five consecutive cycles. This work elucidates the rational design of amphiphilic Janus materials for efficient interfacial biocatalysis in oil-processing applications.

Polydicyclopentadiene (PDCPD), an emerging environmentally friendly material, has been widely applied in lightweight structural shells; however, its extension to high-value electronic applications remains challenging. In this work, we developed a novel vinyl-SiO2@NaNbO3(VSN) core–shell structure with a high surface vinyl concentration (1.26 mmol/g) and excellent thermal stability, making it highly suitable for co-polymerization with polymers. Through ring-opening metathesis polymerization, the influence of VSN on the mechanical, thermal, and dielectric properties of PDCPD composites was systematically investigated. The vinyl groups on the VSN surface provide strong interfacial compatibility with the PDCPD matrix. With only 1.0 wt% loading, the composites show significant performance improvements: the heat deflection temperature and glass transition temperature increased to 139.3 °C and 150.43 °C, respectively, while the dielectric constant at 1 kHz rises to 4.13 with an ultralow dielectric loss of 0.035%. Meanwhile, the composites maintain high mechanical strength and solvent resistance. This study not only establishes a facile strategy for fabricating highly compatible inorganic additives but also offers new opportunities for expanding PDCPD into advanced dielectric and electronic applications.

Co-modified Ni/SiO 2 produces aviation fuel from polyolefins under mild conditions. • Co doping modulates Ni electronic structure to favor internal C-C bond cleavage. • The yield of liquid reaches 82.3% with 79.0% selectivity to the C 8 -C 16 fraction. • Coupled with green energy, the process reduces carbon footprint by 80%. The escalating accumulation of plastic waste poses a major threat to global sustainability. Converting waste polyolefins into aviation fuel offers a promising valorization route, but the challenge remains in overcoming the limited performance of non-noble metal catalysts. Here, a 10Ni-2Co/SiO 2 catalyst was developed that achieved an excellent balance between activity and selectivity for polyethylene hydrogenolysis. Under mild conditions at 280 °C and 3 MPa H 2 , it delivered an 82.3% liquid yield with 79.0% selectivity toward C 8 -C 16 hydrocarbons. The incorporation of Co induced the coexistence of Ni 0 and Ni δ+ species, which may have facilitated internal C-C bond cleavage along the polyethylene backbone. This synergy may have contributed to hydrogen activation and C-C bond cleavage, which may have promoted a continuous “cleavage-hydrogenation-desorption” sequence, thereby helping to suppress excessive chain scission and favoring the selective formation of aviation-fuel-range hydrocarbons. This catalyst also showed broad applicability to other real-life waste polyolefins, and when powered by renewable energy, the process achieved a significantly reduced carbon footprint, offering a sustainable route for plastic upcycling and aviation decarbonization. Driven by the growing demand for functional textiles featuring excellent waterproofness, moisture permeability and mechanical robustness in outdoor sportswear, medical protection and technical apparel, traditional pongee—despite its desirable softness, high wrinkle resistance and good stability as an ideal substrate fabric—is severely restricted in further application by its intrinsically poor hydrostatic pressure resistance in extremely wet environments. Accordingly, we developed a modified waterborne polyurethane (WPU) coating for pongee substrates to fabricate functional textiles that maintain high hydrostatic pressure resistance while possessing good mechanical properties and increased UV absorption. In this study, by using the sol–gel method, an amorphous silicon dioxide (SiO2) coating layer was constructed on the surface of titanium dioxide (TiO2) particles, forming silica-modified titania particles (SiO2/TiO2). These SiO2-modified particles were subsequently physically blended with an anionic waterborne polyurethane system that had been previously modified with a polyester-type modifier A to enhance its hydrostatic pressure resistance. The resulting composite coating was designed to combine the high hydrostatic pressure resistance inherited from the modified WPU matrix, the mechanical reinforcement and increased UV absorption contributed by SiO2/TiO2, and satisfactory water repellency on fabric substrates. The results indicate that the incorporation of an appropriate amount of modifier A into the prepolymer system significantly enhances hydrostatic pressure resistance while maintaining high elongation at break. At a SiO2/TiO2loading of 0.2 wt%, the composite film exhibits optimal comprehensive performance, characterized by superior mechanical properties, low water absorption, and static water contact angles exceeding 100° for coated fabrics. SiO2/TiO2composite WPU coatings substantially improve hydrostatic pressure resistance across various fabrics, with 380T polyester taffeta demonstrating the best performance. This resistance remains remarkably stable after standard washing, indicating excellent wash fastness and practical applicability.

Surfactants and nanoparticles play a crucial role in regulating the properties of the oil–water interface. However, their influence on the initiation and migration patterns of residual oil in pores remains insufficiently characterized. In this study, nanocompounded systems were prepared by dispersing hydrophobic silica nanoparticles (SiO2-N) in solutions of linear and branched alkylbenzenesulfonate betaines (ASB and XSB), respectively. The effects of these compounded systems on the oil/water/solid interface properties were determined through interfacial tension measurements, emulsion observations, and oil-film stripping tests. The results showed that the addition of SiO2-N enabled the ASB- and XSB-compounded systems to exhibit low interfacial tension characteristics and strong oil film stripping capabilities. Meanwhile, the linear ASB-compounded system demonstrated stronger emulsion stability and further reduced the water separation rate of the emulsion. Additionally, in microscopic-scale oil displacement experiments, the oil displacement efficiencies of the ASB- and XSB-compounded systems increased by 14.9% and 6.5%, respectively. The analysis of remaining oil images indicated that the nanocompounded systems better stripped the aggregated columnar remaining oil, increasing the proportion of liquid and droplet remaining oil. That is to say, the ultralow interfacial tension of the nanocompounded system at the oil/water interface prompts the remaining oil in the pores to transform from columnar to film-like and droplet-like; the improvement in emulsion stability enabled the emulsified oil droplets to have better migration capabilities; the enhanced oil film stripping improved the initiation and migration capabilities of remaining oil, thereby increasing the oil displacement efficiency. Therefore, this paper investigates the initiation and migration characteristics of crude oil in porous media by changing the hydrophobic groups of zwitterionic surfactants of both genders and reveals the synergistic oil displacement mechanism of the compounded system of straight-chain and branched zwitterionic surfactants and nano-SiO2 particles.

Liquid hydrogen is attractive for large-scale hydrogen storage and long-distance transport because of its high volumetric energy density. However, exothermic ortho-para hydrogen conversion at cryogenic temperature causes boil-off loss and requires efficient catalysts. Iron-based catalysts are widely used, but their practical application is limited by poor stability under water, oxygen, and impurity attack. Herein, Fe@SiO 2 core-shell catalysts with tunable shell thicknesses were prepared by precipitation combined with hydrolytic coating and evaluated at 77 K. An amorphous SiO 2 shell was uniformly formed on the iron-based particles without destroying the active phase. The optimized catalyst achieved an outlet para-H 2 content of 47.5% and remained stable over 120 h. The improved catalytic performance is attributed to the SiO 2 coating, which enhances the structural stability of the iron-based particles while retaining accessible mesoporous transport pathways. These pathways facilitate H 2 transport to the iron-based active phase while reducing its exposure to the external environment.

The epoxidation of long-chain α-olefins presents a significant challenge in synthetic chemistry, particularly when employing molecular oxygen from air as the sole oxidant under additive-free conditions. In this study, we demonstrate that manganese supported on mesoporous silica (Mn/MSN) effectively catalyzes the aerobic epoxidation of long-chain α-olefins without requiring initiators or sacrificial agents. Mechanistic investigations reveal a synergistic interplay between Mn(II) and Mn(III) species, which facilitates the selective cleavage the peroxo bonds (O–O) in alkyl hydroperoxide intermediates. Strategic incorporation of iron and zirconium into the Mn/MSN framework modulates the manganese oxidation states, enriching the Mn(II)/Mn(III) ratio and achieving a remarkable space-time yield of up to 200 mol epoxide mol⁻¹ Mn h⁻¹ . Radical trapping experiments combined with high-resolution mass spectrometry corroborate the formation of allyl carbon-centered and alkoxy radical intermediates during the reaction. This work provides a feasible strategy for long-chain α-olefin aerobic epoxidation without any additives.

Superhydrophilic/submerged superoleophobic cotton fabrics with antibacterial properties were obtained by loading SiO 2 nanoparticles and Ag + on the surface of cotton fabrics through SiO 2 –Ag + composite sols, followed by the modification of the cotton fabrics with dopamine methacrylamide (DMA) and [2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]dimethyl-(3-sulfopropyl)ammonium hydroxide (SBMA). The surface morphology and wettability of the modified fabrics were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis (TG), and contact angle measurement. The underwater contact angle and surface wettability analysis showed that the modified cotton fabric had an underwater oil contact angle of 166.5°. The prepared fabric can be used as an effective medium for the gravity-driven separation of oil/water mixtures. The modified fabrics showed resistance to sparing of vegetable oils or different organic solvents, and the average separation efficiency was better than 93% for all types of oil/water mixtures and up to 97%. In addition, the modified fabrics successfully inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus with excellent antimicrobial properties.

All-inorganic perovskite CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) nanocrystals (NCs) have emerged as promising candidates for light-emitting diode (LED) displays due to their outstanding photophysical properties. However, their practical application remains hindered by poor stability and the inherent toxicity of Pb 2+ . In this study, we present a two-step heating method to synthesize CsPb 1− x Zn x Br 3 NCs with enhanced optoelectronic performance and uniform dispersion. The optimized Zn 2+ -doped NCs achieve a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 86%, with a reduction in lattice spacing from 0.384 to 0.365 nm, attributed to increased perovskite lattice formation energy and effective surface passivation. To further improve stability, a silica (SiO 2 ) shell is introduced via surface modification with (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES), forming CsPb 0.7 Zn 0.3 Br 3 @SiO 2 core–shell NCs. At an optimal APTES/B-site metal ion molar ratio of 1.8, the PLQY increases to 96%. The SiO 2 encapsulation significantly enhances environmental stability, with coated NCs retaining 43% of their initial photoluminescence (PL) intensity after immersion in water for 36 h, compared to only 5% for uncoated NCs. Furthermore, after ethanol treatment for 210 min, the coated NCs retain 39% of their initial PL intensity, while the uncoated counterparts retain merely 7%. The enhanced stability and luminescence performance of CsPb 0.7 Zn 0.3 Br 3 @SiO 2 NCs make them highly promising for LED applications. White light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) fabricated using these NCs exhibit a color rendering index (CRI) of 78.2, a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 5470 K, and a luminous efficiency (LE) of 54.2 lm/W, demonstrating significant potential for next-generation display and lighting technologies.

Photonic crystals (PCs) structural color coatings have been widely studied due to their advantages of environmental friendliness, resistance to fading and high color saturation. However, they still have problems such as single function and being easily affected by the external environment. In this research, fluorescent SiO 2 @polypyrrole@carbon quantum dots (SiO 2 @PPy@CQDs) microspheres were synthesized by incorporating CQDs into SiO 2 @PPy microspheres, which were self-assembled on the white cotton fabrics to form an amorphous photonic structure (APS). These APS exhibited angle-independent structural colors under natural light and blue fluorescence under UV light. The structural colored cotton fabrics obtained superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle (WCA) greater than 150° and self-cleaning function after treatment with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). The anti-counterfeiting structural colored fabrics with single response to UV light and dual responses to water/UV light based on SiO 2 @PPy@CQDs, SiO 2 @PPy and SiO 2 microspheres were prepared by using multi-layer alternating atomization deposition and PDMS hydrophobic treatment processes. This study provides a novel approach for developing multifunctional structural color coatings with self-cleaning and anti-counterfeiting based on fluorescent organic/inorganic hybrid microspheres.
