1T–2H MoS2/Ti3C2 MXene Heterostructure with High-Rate and High-Capacity Performance for Sodium-Ion Batteries

Bingjie Wen,Nizao Kong,Min Huang,Liqin Fu,Dingbang Yan,Yexin Tian,Jinshui Liu,Ruixuan Tan,Fei Han

Despite the outstanding theoretical capacities of two-dimensional (2D) molybdenum sulfide (MoS2) with low costs, its low conductivity and easy agglomeration greatly impede the business application as anode materials. The heterostructures between 2D MoS2 and Ti3C2 MXene are able to combine the collective superiorities of MoS2 and Ti3C2, thus greatly ameliorating the electrical conductivity and rate capacity through synergistic effects. Herein, we design a simple intercalation–sulfidation strategy for the construction of the TH MoS2/Ti3C2 heterostructures with a compact stacking lamellar structure and investigate the electrochemical sodium storage properties of the composite. In the architecture, fallen leaf-like MoS2 nanosheets with a mixed-phase crystal containing 1T and 2H phases grow tightly on the surface and interlayer of Ti3C2 matrixes. The expanded layer spacing of Ti3C2 as a result of MoS2 insertion can greatly accelerate electronic/sodium ion transport. Meanwhile, 2D Ti3C2 can serve as a strong mechanical support for the composite electrode to provide a buffer space for volume expansion and avoid structural collapse during cycles. Benefiting from these structural advantages, the TH MoS2/Ti3C2 anode reveals higher sodium storage capacity of 743.6 mAh g–1 than bare MoS2 (579.4 mAh g–1) at 0.2 A g–1. Furthermore, the anode exhibits significantly improved battery rate performance with a high sodium storage capacity of 653.3, 539.1, 512.1, 488.7, 439.3, and 586.7 mAh g–1 at 0.2, 0.5, 1, 2, 5, and 0.2 A g–1. Our study provides a unique synthesis route to construct layered heterostructure composites by artificial stacking of different types of 2D materials, which are considered as highly promising electrode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs).

Enhanced 1T phase promotes sodium storage performances of MoS2 flower-like spheres with embedded reduced graphene oxides

Xianglin Yu,Ruixue Li,Xinyu Hu,Ren He,Kehui Xue,Renrui Sun,Ting Yang,Wenlei Wang,Xing Fang

Metallic 1T phase molybdenum disulfide (1T-MoS 2 ) can improve the electron transport rate and provide abundant active sites, which is beneficial to promote the electrochemical properties of MoS 2 . Herein, enhanced 1T-MoS 2 flower-like spheres have been prepared via a facile hydrothermal method through adding urea and reducing reaction time (6 h). In addition, graphene oxide nanosheets are also used to further increase the conductivity and structure stability of composite. The synthesized enhanced 1T phase MoS 2 flower-like spheres with embedded reduced graphene oxides (E-1T-MoS 2 @rGO-6) are applied as anode materials as sodium ion battery, which delivers a high reversible capacity of 450 mAh g −1  at 0.1 A g −1 after 60 cycles, and the electrode still remains 280 mAh g −1 after 100 cycles even at 1 A g −1 . The boosted sodium ion storage capacity, good rate and cyclic stability performances of E-1T-MoS 2 @rGO-6 electrode may be ascribed to the high content of 1T-MoS 2 and the presence of rGO.

Synthesis of air-stable 1T-CrS2 thin films and their application in high-performance floating-gate memory

Yu Yao,Bicheng Wang,Yixiang Li,Wenting Hong,Xu He,Zhipeng Fu,Qian Cai,Wei Liu

Two-dimensional van der Waals materials, with atomic-level thickness and unique electronic structures, have tremendous potential in electronic device applications, making them highly desirable for research in high-performance non-volatile memory. Here, we report a method for the van der Waals epitaxial growth of air-stable and uniformly distributed thin films of a 1T-CrS2 single crystal, based on a simple chemical vapor deposition technique using a binary metal precursor co-reaction growth mechanism controlled by the evaporation rate of the precursor. The corresponding 1T-CrS2 electronic devices can maintain their electrical performance without degradation for up to one month in air. Based on this, we have constructed a floating-gate memory device with a full van der Waals heterostructure, exhibiting a large storage window ratio (approximately 79%), a high on/off ratio (107), and stability for over 1000 cycles. The device demonstrates excellent multi-level data storage stability and can be optically programmed with stable operation using 532 nm laser pulses, showcasing outstanding optoelectronic storage performance. The excellent electrical stability of these two-dimensional materials, the non-volatile nature of the devices, and the stable multi-level storage characteristics present enormous potential for the integration of high-performance non-volatile memory.

In-situ preparation of 1T’-MoTe2/pyramidal-Si mixed van der Waals heterojunction toward high performance photodetection

Tongtong Kang,Changyong Lan,Shuren Zhou,Xinyi Luo,Xiaoqi Gao,Haodong Fan,Yi Yin,Chun Li

1T’-MoTe 2 /flat-Si and 1T’-MoTe 2 /pyramidal-Si heterojunction photodetectors were in-situ fabricated. • The MoTe 2 /pyramidal-Si heterojunction photodetector exhibits 31% enhancement in responsivity compared with the MoTe 2 /flat-Si counterpart. • The MoTe 2 /pyramidal-Si heterojunction photodetector exhibits broadband spectral response (400-1550 nm), high responsivity (451 mA/W), high specific detectivity (7.8 × 10 11 Jones), and fast response (4 μs). • An 8 × 8 photodetector array is fabricated and demonstrates good imaging capability. Mixed van der Waals (vdW) heterojunction photodetectors have attracted considerable attention in recent years due to synergistic effects of component materials with different dimensions, which enable enhanced performance. Among these mixed vdW heterojunctions, two-dimensional (2D) material/Si heterojunction photodetectors hold great promise, combining the superior optoelectronic properties of 2D materials with the mature processing technology of Si. In this work, we report the fabrication of a 1 T′-MoTe 2 /pyramidal-Si heterojunction photodetector via sputtering and subsequent in-situ thermal conversion. Compared with the MoTe 2 /flat-Si counterpart, the MoTe 2 /pyramidal-Si photodetector shows a 31% enhancement in responsivity, reaching 451 mA/W at 820 nm. In addition, it exhibits excellent photodetection performance in terms of specific detectivity (7.8 × 10 11 Jones at 850 nm under zero bias), broadband spectral response (400–1550 nm), large linear dynamic range (162 dB), and fast response (4 μs at 850 nm under a bias voltage of −5 V). An 8 × 8 photodetector array is fabricated and demonstrates good imaging capability. Our work provides a novel approach for developing high-performance mixed vdW heterojunction photodetectors. l-Cysteine Intercalation Inducing 1T-Rich MoS2 Hybrids as High-Performance Cathodes for Reversible Zinc-Ion Storage

Fangfang Zhou,Zhiman Bai,Peng Dai,Tongtong Jiang,Mingzai Wu

Due to the high energy density, inherent safety, and cost-effectiveness, aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) have been recognized as promising solution for energy storage. Compared to the 2H phase of MoS2, the metallic 1T phase counterpart holds greater potential for application in AZIBs, owing to its higher electrical conductivity and favorable two-dimensional channel structure. Herein, a facile one-step hydrothermal approach was employed to synthesize stable and 1T-rich MoS2 hybrids (MoS2-l-Cys) using l-cysteine as an intercalation modifier. This approach simultaneously induces a spontaneous phase transition from the semiconducting 2H to metallic 1T phase and expands the interlayer spacing of MoS2. The metallic 1T phase of MoS2 promotes electrons transfer, while the expanded interlayer spacing accelerates the Zn2+ ions’ diffusion kinetics and exposes more active sites. These synergistic effects collectively boost charge transfer kinetics of the Zn2+ ions’ redox reaction, thereby dramatically improving the electrochemical performance of AZIBs. Therefore, the discharge specific capacity of the MoS2-l-Cys electrode is as high as 279.0 mAh g–1 with outstanding rate capability. Furthermore, the MoS2-l-Cys electrode exhibits exceptional cycling stability, with a capacity retention of 91.4% after 1000 cycles at 4 A g–1, due to that the expanded interlayer spacing can effectively mitigate volume variations of MoS2-l-Cys during cycling. This work systematically elucidates the crucial role of l-cysteine intercalation-induced phase transition in optimizing reaction kinetics, providing a viable and effective strategy for developing MoS2-based cathodes for high-performance AZIBs.

Polyaniline Functionalization of Defective 1T-MoS2 Nanosheets for Improved Electron and Mass Transfer: Implications for Electrochemical Sensors

Xiaorong Gan,Jianlin Zhang,Jiabei Liu,Yuanhe Bai,Xinyi Su,Weiqing Wang,Zhuang Cao,Huimin Zhao,Yanhui Ao,Peifang Wang

Simultaneously improving electron and mass transfer processes is full of challenges for electrode material design. To this end, three-dimensional (3D) porous electrode materials were obtained via covalent combination between defective 1T-MoS2 nanosheets and polyaniline (PANI) through hydrothermal/solvothermal processes and surface polymerization reactions. Our experimental results and density functional theory calculations jointly reveal that PANI molecules can not only intercalate into van der Waals (vdW) gaps of 1T-MoS2 nanosheets but also chemically adsorb onto S-vacancy clusters (via Mo–N covalent bonds), rather than single atomic S-vacancies due to steric effects. Similarly, the geometric structure of PANI in the vdW gaps of 1T-MoS2 nanosheets possesses a flat-lying configuration for better stability. Compared to surface functionalization, interlayer intercalation has more profound effects on electronic structures for improving electrochemical properties, including reduced band gaps, small effective electron masses, and high mobility. As a proof-of-concept application, the 1T-MoS2–PANI nanocomposites were used to construct an electrochemical sensor for trace Cu2+, which exhibits high sensitivity and selectivity with a wide linear range from 3 to 450 nM and a low detection limit because of excellent conductivity, a low contact barrier against electron transfer, high mass transfer, and strong coordination interactions between PANI and Cu2+.

A heterostructure of interlayer-expanded 1T phase MoS2 and spherical MoO2 for efficient and stable hydrogen evolution

Xianbo Yu,Feng Yan,Yang Zhao,Bo Geng,Xinzhi Ma,Lili Wu,Xitian Zhang,Yujin Chen

The inferior hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalytic performance of MoS 2 can be attributed to its small edge ratio, large inert substrate surface, and poor electrical conductivity, while the multiple strategies are expected to be employed simultaneously to modulate the electronic structure of MoS 2 and yield catalysts with superior HER catalytic performance. Here, we report a MoS 2 containing a 1 T phase with expanded layer spacing and construct it as a heterostructured material with MoO 2 (MoO 2 @E-MoS 2 ). Specifically, the presence of the 1 T phase and expanded layer structure of MoS 2 can enhance electrode conductivity, increase active site exposure, promote H 2 O adsorption, and optimize the Gibbs-free energy of hydrogen. The constructed heterostructure can modulate the electronic structure of the catalyst, enhance electron transfer at the interface, elevate water adsorption energy, and reduce the hydrogen reaction energy barrier. Moreover, density functional theory calculations indicate that the S site of MoS 2 in this catalyst exhibits a higher affinity for H 2 O adsorption, while the Mo site demonstrates a greater capacity for H* adsorption/desorption. Ultimately, MoO 2 @E-MoS 2 shows low overpotentials of 93 and 99 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 , as well as exceptional long-term stabilities exceeding 70 and 130 h at current densities ranging from 10 to 30 mA cm −2 in acidic and alkaline media, respectively.

Microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis of Fe-doped 1T/2H-MoS2 few-layer nanosheets for efficient electromagnetic wave absorbing

Jingfan Zhang,Min Zhao,Yubo Zhao,Jingkun Wang,Yanxia Wu,Kexun Li,Ying Liu

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) has been considered as an excellent candidate for microwave absorption applications due to its appropriate electrical conductivity and large area size. However, the absorption efficiency and absorption bandwidth of single-phase MoS 2 nanocomposites have been limited due to the weak electrical conductivity and magnetism . This paper proposes a feasible strategy to optimize the electromagnetic properties of MoS 2 absorbent by Fe-doping. The MoS 2 nanosheets with different Fe concentration have been synthesized a microwave-assisted hydrothermal process. Microstructure characterizations reveal that Fe dopants can facilitate the formation mixed 1T/2H phase MoS 2 nanosheets. Owing to the improved permittivity and permeability properties, impedance matching, as well as attenuation characteristics originated from the doping effect and partial phase transformation, the Fe-doped 1T/2H-MoS 2 nanosheets exhibit excellent electromagnetic wave absorbing properties. Its maximum reflection loss reaches − 60.03 dB at the matching thickness of 5.65 mm, and the effective absorption bandwidth below − 10 dB is 5.33 GHz. Such novel doping strategy provides a new insight for design and controlling the magneto-dielectric properties of MoS 2 nanostructures .

Modulation of active sites to promote the electrochemical reduction of Hg2+ by Co doped 1T-MoS2 from wastewater

Yiqing Lv,Xiaohan Li,Yan Du,Jinting Zou,Jinyan Yu,Ji Yang,Limei Cao

As a highly toxic heavy metal, mercury is bioaccumulative and persistent, causing environment pollution and posing potential risks to human health. This study focuses on Hg 2+ in aquatic environments and proposes an electrochemical method to reduce and recycle of Hg 2+ , aiming to mitigate mercury pollution and prevent ecological risks associated with mercury methylation. A graphite felt(GF) composite electrode incorporating Co-doped molybdenum disulfide(Co/MoS 2 @GF) was developed for efficient Hg 2+ removal from wastewater, which was synthesized by a one-step solvothermal method. The Co/MoS 2 @GF(n(Mo):n(Co) = 12:1) electrode achieved 95.0 % Hg 2+ removal efficiency in its initial use, and maintained a consistent Hg 2+ removal efficiency over 87.0 % after five reuse cycles, demonstrating high mercury removal capability and remarkable stability. The Co doping optimized the material’s surface morphology and electronic structure. This modification increased the number of active sites that can generate a large amount of active hydrogen(H*), significantly enhancing mercury reduction efficiency. We determined the optimal reaction conditions for the electrode through influencing factors analysis. The design electrochemical reduction system combines facile synthesis with environmental compatibility, providing a technologically relevant strategy for mercury-contaminated wastewater remediation and concurrent mercury resource recovery, demonstrating significant application potential.

Caicai Zhang,Ao Xu,Shuting Mao,Zhenping Li,Jiawen Yan,Fuyi Jiang,Yijing Wang,Kaiyuan Zhang,Yanli Zhou

Two-dimensional layered-structure MoS 2 has been explored as the promising cathode materials for magnesium ion batteries benefited by its wide layer distance and satisfactory capacity. However, such strong interaction between Mg 2+ and MoS 2 brings about the sluggish diffusion kinetics and irreversible electrochemical reaction, leading to a decreased specific capacity and poor rate capability. How to adopt its structure engineering and interface engineering to boost the Mg 2+ diffusion kinetics and enhance the electrochemical reversibility of MoS 2 is still a huge challenge. Herein, the amorphous sulfur-rich 1T/2H-MoS 2 mesoporous nanospheres (a-MoS 2+x , 0

Electrochemical ammonia synthesis via nitrogen reduction reaction on 1T/2H mixed-phase MoSSe catalyst: Theoretical and experimental studies

Mengjie Sun,Chaoqun Ma,Min Ma,Yanjiao Wei,Shihua Dong,Xiaoli Zhang,Jian Tian,Minhua Shao

Electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction (NRR) is regarded as an energy-efficient technology to produce NH 3 . Nevertheless, achieving high NH 3 yield and Faradaic efficiency (FE) under ambient conditions remains a great challenge. Herein, 1T/2H mixed-phase MoS 0·5 Se 1.5 (named 1T/2H MoSSe) nanoflower, as an efficient non-noble metal NRR electrocatalyst, was synthesized by the one-step solvothermal method. 1T/2H MoSSe realizes an excellent NH 3 yield of 32.32 μg h −1 mg cat. −1 at −0.45 V vs. RHE and an outstanding FE of 12.66% at −0.40 V vs. RHE in 0.1 M HCl, which are better than pure MoS 2 (NH 3 yield: 15.16 μg h −1 mg cat. −1 , FE: 0.35%) and MoSe 2 (NH 3 yield: 26.42 μg h −1 mg cat. −1 , FE: 2.75%). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations exhibit that MoSSe catalyst is structurally favorable to the potential-determining step (PDS, *NH–NH 2 → *NH 2 –NH 2 ) and thus shows increased NRR activity and selectivity. A promising tactic for the rational design of economical, efficient, and durable NRR electrocatalysts is proposed in this work.

Activation of persulfate-based advanced oxidation processes by 1T-MoS2 for the degradation of imidacloprid: Performance and mechanism

Xinzhi Wang,Zhenguo Chen,Yutian He,Xiaohui Yi,Chao Zhang,Qiao Zhou,Xuezhu Xiang,Yunan Gao,Mingzhi Huang

Imidacloprid (IMI) which has been widely detected in the natural water environment is potentially genotoxic to humans and should be effectively eliminated. Persulfate-based advanced oxidation processes are considered to be reliable means aiming at organic pollutants degradation, while an efficient catalyst is urgently needed for the activation of the reaction. As a two-dimensional material, 1T-MoS 2 is expected to be applied for the activation of persulfates due to its abundant active sites and good electrical conductivity. Therefore, in this study, 1T-MoS 2 was synthesized by a simple and safe two-step solvothermal reaction and proposed as an emerging activator of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the degradation of IMI. It was found that 1T-MoS 2 has significantly better catalytic performance on PMS than 2H-MoS 2 and Bulk-MoS 2 , reaching. 76.4 % at pH = 3. The degradation rate of IMI reduced under alkaline conditions due to the inhibition of catalytic processes. Among the different coexisting anions, H C O 3 - HCO3- had the greatest degree of interference and inhibition to the degradation process, resulting in the lowest IMI degradation rate for only 42.45 %. Quenching experiments and EPR analysis showed that S O 4 - ∙ SO4-∙ and OH were the main reactive oxygen species in the 1T-MoS 2 /PMS process. In addition, the IMI degradation pathways analyzed by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS included dehydrogenation, electrophilic addition, heterocyclic ring breakage and intramolecular rearrangement. This study promotes the application of 1T-MoS 2 and is expected to provide a novel persulfate-based advanced oxidation process catalyzed by 1T-MoS 2 for IMI elimination in the aqueous environment.
