Synthesis and Characterization of g-C3N4/Ag3PO4/TiO2/PVDF Membrane with Remarkable Self-Cleaning Properties for Rhodamine B Removal

Renguo Liu,Xue Li,Jinhui Huang,Haoliang Pang,Qiongfang Wan,Kun Luo,Ya Pang,Lingyu Wang

g-C3N4/Ag3PO4/TiO2nanocomposite materials were loaded onto a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane using a phase inversion method to obtain a photocatalytic flat membrane for dye removal. The morphology, structure, and photocatalytic activity of the g-C3N4/Ag3PO4/TiO2nanoparticles and composite membrane were evaluated. The g-C3N4/Ag3PO4/TiO2/PVDF membrane exhibited superior morphology, hydrophilic properties, and antifouling performance compared with the raw PVDF membrane. Four-stage filtration was performed to evaluate the self-cleaning and antifouling capacity of the g-C3N4/Ag3PO4/TiO2/PVDF membrane. Upon irradiating the composite membrane with visible light for 30 min, its irreversible fouling resistance (Rir) was low (9%), and its flux recovery rate (FRR) was high (71.0%) after five filtration cycles. The removal rate of rhodamine B (RhB) from the composite membrane under visible light irradiation reached 98.1% owing to the high photocatalytic activity of the membrane, which was superior to that of raw PVDF membrane (42.5%). A mechanism of photocatalytic composite membranes for RhB degradation was proposed. Therefore, this study is expected to broaden prospects in the field of membrane filtration technology.Keywords:g-C3N4/Ag3PO4/TiO2nanocomposite;photocatalytic membrane;self-cleaning;membrane fouling;dye

Construction of double Z-scheme Ag3PO4/MOF-In2S3/Bi2S3 heterojunction by micro-Ag bridges for photocatalytic degradation of levofloxacin

Wenqing Yu,Fanming Meng,Hainan Wei,Han Zhang,Sheng Yao

Designing heterogeneous photocatalysts to enhance the activity of photo-induced ch arge separation for efficient degradation of organic pollutants in aqueous systems remains a significant challenge. A double Z-scheme Ag 3 PO 4 /MOF-In 2 S 3 /Bi 2 S 3 heterojunction containing trace Ag compositing was rationally designed and prepared, and fully characterized. Nitrogen adsorption–desorption experiments and Ultraviolet–Visible diffuse reflection spectroscopy (UV–Vis DRS) showed that the heterostructure expanded the surface area of single component, and had the highest absorption rate and the widest range of light. The presence of Ag in this heterostructure was demonstrated by transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), which explained the strong resistance to photo corrosion and the highest current density exhibited by the composite in photocurrent response testing. The photocatalytic degradation of the antibiotic levofloxacin (LVX) was carried out, in which the degradation proportion of ABIS-Ⅲ sample was as high as 93.6 % within 90 min. Free radical scavenging assay and ESR experiment demonstrated that OH and O 2 – worked together to promote the degradation of LVX. Combined theoretical calculations with experimental results to reasonably construct a double Z-scheme to elaborate the carrier migration paths under light illumination. This novel double Z-scheme model heterojunction is expected to provide new ideas for the study of the photocatalytic mechanism of multiplicity complexes and the removal of antibiotic contaminants.

Simultaneous degradation of SMX for efficient nitrogen fixation to ammonia and hydrogen evolution using AgVO3@rGO-Ag3PO4 (110) heterojunction

Xueyu Wei,Saraschandra Naraginti,Xiaofan Yang,Xiaoping Xu,Jiyuan Li,Meiqing Zhu,Pengli Chen,Pei Jiang

The simultaneous degradation of organic pollutants and generation of value-added compounds like ammonia and hydrogen energy has recently gained considerable attention in photocatalysis . The present study deals with successful preparation of novel AgVO 3 nanowire@rGO-tetrahedral Ag 3 PO 4 (110) (AGA) heterojunction and utilized for enhanced generation of NH 3 and H 2 from N-containing antibiotic sulfamethoxazole (SMX) under visible light. The prepared catalyst was well characterized by XRD , SEM, TEM and XPS to confirm the formation of heterojunction . The results indicated that the composite exhibited 546.0 μmol g −1 of hydrogen evolution rate, which is approximately 3.6 (153.6 μmol g −1 ) and 5.1 (108.7 μmol g −1 ) times higher than the pure AgVO 3 and Ag 3 PO 4 respectively after 6 h. Similarly, 38.3 mg L −1 g −1 of NH 3 generation was observed during 6 h of SMX degradation, which is about 1.9 and 2.8 times higher than the pure AgVO 3 (20.1 mg L −1 g −1 ) and Ag 3 PO 4 (13.7 mg L −1 g −1 ) respectively. The formation of heterojunction between AgVO 3 and Ag 3 PO 4 not only promotes the transfer of electron but also prevents the recombination which eventually enhances the catalytic conversion of N-element to NH 3 and for H 2 generation during water splitting. Furthermore, the plausible degradation pathway in SMX was proposed and the results revealed that the SMX was mineralized by the composite further converted to NH 3 and generates H 2 during the degradation process . Thus, our study provides new insights into novel photocatalytic treatment methodologies for simultaneous degradation of SMX to produce NH 3 and H 2 as value-added compounds from antibiotic wastewaters during water treatment process.

Analyte-triggered oxidase-mimetic activity loss of Ag3PO4/UiO-66 enables colorimetric detection of malathion completely free from bioenzymes

Peng Liu,Xin Li,Xuechao Xu,Xiangheng Niu,Mengzhu Wang,Hengjia Zhu,Jianming Pan

Detection of pesticide residues is important because it is related to food and environmental safety. Although lots of sensors have been developed and applied for pesticide analysis, most of them rely on the use of vulnerable bioenzymes, weakening the highlights of these sensors. Here we recommend a bioenzyme-free colorimetric assay of malathion, a typical organophosphorus pesticide, based on the analyte inducing the oxidase-mimicking activity loss of Ag 3 PO 4 /UiO-66. Compared to counterparts, the Ag 3 PO 4 /UiO-66 composite can provide enhanced oxidase-mimetic catalytic activity to trigger the 3,3′-tetramethylbenzidine chromogenic reaction with the participation of dissolved O 2 . When malathion exists, it rapidly adsorbs onto the composite surface via their unique interactions and significantly shields the oxidase-like activity of Ag 3 PO 4 /UiO-66, thus affecting the catalytic chromogenic reaction. With such a principle, sensing of malathion in a wide linear range (0.0083–5.333 μg/mL) was realized with a detection limit 7.5 ng/mL. Given no biological elements were involved in the proposed assay, it exhibited robust and reliable performance in determining malathion in practical samples. Furthermore, a chromogenic hydrogel-based smartphone sensing system was developed for instrument-free on-site analysis of malathion. With good analytical performance and facile operation, our assay and device will find promising applications in phosphothionate pesticide determination.

Novel step-scheme red mud based Ag3PO4 heterojunction photocatalyst with enhanced photocatalytic performance and stability in photo-Fenton reaction

Qingyong Li,Guangtao Wei,Yanjuan Yang,Lei Gao,Linye Zhang,Zhongmin Li,Xinya Huang,Jianyu Gan

In our work, using industrial waste red mud (RM) as a host material to grow silver phosphate (Ag 3 PO 4 ), a low-cost and new heterogeneous Ag 3 PO 4 /RM (APRM) composite was successfully prepared through a facile in-situ deposition method. The characterization results demonstrated Ag 3 PO 4 nanoparticles uniformly deposited on RM to form P-O-Fe bonds, and a semiconductor heterostructure was constructed between the two nanocrystalline components of Ag 3 PO 4 and Fe 2 O 3 . The optimal composite of APRM-110 exhibited a remarkable photocatalytic activity for the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCl) in photo-Fenton reaction. The enhanced photocatalytic performance and stability could be attributed to the S-scheme charge transfer in APRM-110, which accelerated the photo-generated carrier separation and then effectively restrained the photocorrosion of APRM-110. The APRM-110 composite held good reusability, stability and excellent settleability. The main intermediates were identified and the degradation pathway of TC-HCl in photo-Fenton reaction catalyzed by APRM-110 was proposed. The aquatic toxicity of TC-HCl solution could be effectively weakened by the photo-Fenton catalyzed by APRM-110. This work has designed a cost-efficiency and stable RM-based Ag 3 PO 4 composite, and as a highly effective catalyst for TC-HCl degradation in photo-Fenton reaction.

Ag3PO4/g-C3N4 Z-scheme composites with enhanced visible-light-driven disinfection and organic pollutants degradation: Uncovering the mechanism

Jinge Du,Zhe Xu,Hui Li,Haijun Yang,Shengjun Xu,Jun Wang,Yanan Jia,Shuanglong Ma,Sihui Zhan

A novel Z-scheme Ag 3 PO 4 /g-C 3 N 4 heterostructures was constructed successfully for Escherichia coli inactivation and organic pollutants degradation under visible light irradiation. The Ag 3 PO 4 (8)/g-C 3 N 4 possessed the highest photocatalytic effect with more than 7 log of live Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) totally inactivated within 75 min and complete BPA degradation within 180 min. By mimicking the components of natural water individually, humic acid (HA) and inorganic anion were found to deeply affected the photocatalytic disinfection activity. Moreover, the Ag 3 PO 4 (8)/g-C 3 N 4 revealed significantly boosted visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance for ciprofloxacin and sulfadiazine degradation. The satisfying degradation effects of bisphenol A in nature waters were also obtained. The improved photocatalytic efficiency of Ag 3 PO 4 /g-C 3 N 4 may be attributed to the formation of Z-scheme heterostructure structure and matching valence band and conduction band, resulting in rapid separation of photo-induced carrier, enhanced electronic transport capacity and prolonged carrier lifetime. The possible mechanism was studied using radical quenching tests and electron spin resonance, suggesting that the hole, electron and hydroxyl radical were the paramount active species during Escherichia coli disinfection. This work pioneers a novel strategy for upgrading the photocatalytic disinfection and degradation capacities of g-C 3 N 4 based catalysts.

Facile synthesis of a novel Ag3PO4/MIL-100(Fe) Z-scheme photocatalyst for enhancing tetracycline degradation under visible light

Xu Jun,Xu Jinmei,Jiang Shanqing,Cao Yu,Xu Kailin,Zhang Qiuya,Wang Liping

In this work, a novel visible light–driven heterostructure Ag 3 PO 4 /MIL-100(Fe) composite photocatalyst was successfully synthesized via facile chemical deposition method at room temperature. Especially when the mass ratio of Ag 3 PO 4 was 20% of MIL-100(Fe) (APM-2), it displayed the best photocatalytic performance, for which the degradation rate of tetracycline (TC) in conventional environment was 6.8 times higher than that of bare MIL-100(Fe). In addition, the effects of the initial concentration and pH of the solution on the degradation of tetracycline were also studied, and the results showed that the degradation of tetracycline was more favorable in a weakly alkaline environment. The excellent performance of Ag 3 PO 4 /MIL-100(Fe) composites was attributed to the fact that on the basis of having adequate photocatalytic active sites, modifying MIL-100(Fe) with an appropriate amount of Ag 3 PO 4 particles can more effectively separate photogenerated electron–hole pairs. Five cycles of experiments showed that APM-2 has good photostability. Lastly, it was proved through quenching experiments that •O 2 − , h + , and •OH all played corresponding roles in the degradation process, and a possible Z-scheme heterostructure photocatalytic degradation mechanism was proposed.

In Situ Ion Exchange Synthesis of Cauliflower-like AgBr/Ag3PO4/Sulfonated Polystyrene Sphere Heterojunction Photocatalyst With Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity

Tang Qingjie,Wu Wenrong,Zhang Huoli,Luo Junzhi,Zhang Bingyao,Guo Xiangkun,Jia Jianbo,Cao Jianliang

The cauliflower-like AgBr/Ag 3 PO 4 /sulfonated polystyrene sphere (SPS) heterojunction photocatalyst was prepared using wastewater containing silver ion and SPS as raw materials via in situ ion change method. The AgBr/Ag 3 PO 4 /SPS photocatalyst was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV–Vis DRS). The results showed that AgBr nanoparticles and Ag 3 PO 4 nanoparticles are highly dispersed on the surface of sulfonated polystyrene. And the heterogeneous junction structures are also formed between AgBr and Ag 3 PO 4 , which is benefit for the separation of photogenerated electrons and holes. Hence, the AgBr/Ag 3 PO 4 /SPS photocatalyst had an excellent activity for photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) in water under visible light irradiation. The cyclic test results showed that the AgBr/Ag 3 PO 4 /SPS photocatalyst also had a good stability.

Assembly of graphene on Ag3PO4/AgI for effective degradation of carbamazepine under Visible-light irradiation: Mechanism and degradation pathways

Yi Duan,Lin Deng,Zhou Shi,Lei Zhu,Guangchao Li

A highly efficient visible-light-driven photocatalyst Ag 3 PO 4 /AgI-Graphene (Ag 3 PO 4 /AgI-G) was synthesized through a chemical coprecipitation procedure. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were performed to study the physicochemical structural of the photocatalysts. The photocatalytic activity of the samples was examined by the carbamazepine (CBZ) degradation under artificial visible light and natural sunlight irradiation. Experimental results indicated that the introduction of low mass content of graphene enhanced the photocatalytic performance of Ag 3 PO 4 /AgI, and the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of CBZ over Ag 3 PO 4 /AgI-3%G (mass ratio of graphene:Ag 3 PO 4 /AgI = 3:100) reached 93.06% within 21 min, which was much higher than that over pure Ag 3 PO 4 (26.92%) and Ag 3 PO 4 /AgI (74.38%). UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra, photoluminescence (PL) spectra, transient photocurrent responses and electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) of the samples were conducted to verify the high photocatalytic performance of the Ag 3 PO 4 /AgI-3%G. In addition, possible photocatalytic degradation pathways of CBZ were proposed based on the analysis of transformation products during the reaction. The reactive species trapping experiments and Electron spin resonance (ESR) analysis demonstrated that h + and O 2 − were the main active oxidant species responsible for CBZ photodegradation. The photocatalytic degradation mechanism of CBZ over Ag 3 PO 4 /AgI-3%G under visible light irradiation was schematically proposed. This study not only provides a new technique for the synthesis of Ag 3 PO 4 -based photocatalysts with high photocatalytic activity, but also demonstrates that the Ag 3 PO 4 /AgI-3%G composite could be a promising photocatalyst for the treatment of waters containing CBZ.

Flexible electrospun MWCNTs/Ag3PO4/PAN ternary composite fiber membranes with enhanced photocatalytic activity and stability under visible-light irradiation

Wu Xiao-Qiong,Shen Jiang-Shan,Zhao Fei,Shao Zai-Dong,Zhong Lu-Bin,Zheng Yu-Ming

Semiconductor photocatalysis is a promising technology for removing contaminants from water. Particularly, visible-light photocatalysis has attracted much attention because of its potential to utilize solar energy. However, nano-sized visible-light-driven photocatalysts easily aggregate during water treatment. Besides, it is difficult to recycle them from treated systems. Therefore, it is of great importance to develop visible-light-responsive immobilized photocatalysts with high activity. In this work, MWCNTs/Ag 3 PO 4 /polyacrylonitrile (PAN) ternary composite fiber membranes (TCFMs) with good photocatalytic performance were fabricated by electrospinning technique combined with in situ Ag 3 PO 4 forming reaction. Due to the addition of MWCNTs, the band gap of MWCNTs/Ag 3 PO 4 /PAN TCFMs became narrower than that of Ag 3 PO 4 /PAN binary composite fiber membranes (BCFMs), which made MWCNTs/Ag 3 PO 4 /PAN TCFMs be able to use light at longer wavelengths. Compared with Ag 3 PO 4 /PAN BCFMs, the as-prepared MWCNTs/Ag 3 PO 4 /PAN TCFMs showed enhanced photocatalytic activity and stability for degrading rhodamine B (RhB) in batch processing systems, which mainly ascribed to fast electron transfer from Ag 3 PO 4 to MWCNTs and the resulting high electron–hole (e − –h + ) separation efficiency. Radical trapping experiments revealed that holes (h + ) and superoxide radicals ( · O 2 − ) played primary roles in RhB degradation. In addition, the flexible MWCNTs/Ag 3 PO 4 /PAN TCFMs also showed potential practical application in the continuous wastewater treatment by a suitable photocatalytic membrane reactor. This work provides a facile approach to prepare flexible supported photocatalytic membrane with visible-light response, high activity and good stability.

One-step reduction synthesis of Ag/Ag3PO4/AgBr sub-micron composites for enhanced visible photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange

Zhuanni Yu,Mengmeng Xu,Qiang Wang,Xiaowei Sun,Jing Lan

An efficient semiconductor composite, silver/silver orthophosphate/silver bromide, was successfully synthesized by a facile one-step reduction and ion exchange process. Its crystal structure, morphology, optical property, surface element composition were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectrometer and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer. The effects of composite proportion and synthesis duration on performances of as-prepared photocatalysts were investigated, and the results showed that Br/P molar ratio of 3 and the synthesis duration of 4 h were the optimum conditions. The radical scavenging experiments indicated that the hole and superoxide radical were the main active species in this reaction system. The Ag/Ag 3 PO 4 /AgBr-3 presented excellent stability and recyclability, maintaining 92% of degradation efficiency after 5 cycles. The good photocatalysis performance could be attributed to the formation of the heterojunction between Ag and Ag 3 PO 4 /AgBr.
