We used the one-step hydrothermal controlled synthesis method for Co-Ni 3 S 2 ultrathin nanosheets grown directly on nickel foam(NF). The as-synthesized Co-Ni 3 S 2 /NF showed enhanced activities in the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER), oxygen evolution reaction(OER) and better overall water splitting(OWS) efficiency than the un-doped Ni 3 S 2 /NF. The voltage of Co-Ni 3 S 2 /NF for OWS was only 1.58 V at the current density of 10 mA/cm 2 and with long time(>30 h) current output during the current-density( i - t ) test. The good i - t performance was also observed in both HER and OER processes. Additionally, the Co-Ni 3 S 2 /NF showed a large current density(>1 A/cm 2 ) for both HER and OER. When the current densities reached 100 and 1000 mA/cm 2 , the required overpotentials for Co-Ni 3 S 2 /NF were 0.35 and 0.75 V for OER and 0.30 and 0.85 V for HER. Therefore, after introducing Co, th e activity of Ni 3 S 2 -based material was strongly enhanced.

The core-shell CoMoO 4 nanorods@Ni 3 S 2 nanosheets (CMO@NS) for supercapacitor were prepared by a facile two-step hydrothermal process accompanying with annealing treatment. The influence of hydrothermal time on structures and electrochemical properties was studied in detail. Benefiting from the synergism-enhanced action of CoMoO 4 and Ni 3 S 2 and the novel core-shell heterostructure of the composite, the prepared electrode exhibits excellent electrochemical performance. CMO@NS employed as positive electrode for supercapacitor exhibits excellent areal specific capacitance (11.02 F cm −2 at 5 mA cm −2 ), exceptional rate performance (70.8% retention, even increasing the current density to 30 mA cm −2 ) and enhanced cycle performance (57.7% retention rate after 3000 cycles). Furthermore, an asymmetric supercapacitor device was fabricated, which achieves an ultra-high energy density of 0.412 mWh cm −2 at the power density of 4 mW cm −2 and a great cycle life with 81.25% capacitance retention over 3000 cycles. Thus, the core-shell CMO@NS could be a hopeful candidate for practical supercapacitor electrode materials.

The development of bifunctional non-noble metal electrocatalysts demonstrating high activity and stability for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is of great significance for renewable and clean energy. In this work, we report hierarchically structured integrated Fe–MoS2/Ni3S2/NF (NF = nickel foam) materials prepared by a facile in situ solvothermal method, and among them, the Fe-doped MoS2 was assembled into spine-like nanorods. The optimized electrocatalyst (denoted as Fe–MoS2/Ni3S2/NF-2) demonstrated excellent activity and durability for performing the HER and OER in an alkaline electrolyte (pH = 14) with low overpotentials of 130.6 mV and 256 mV (vs. RHE) at a current density of 10 mA cm−2, as well as no significant loss in catalytic performance even after 2000 cyclic voltammetry (CV) cycles. An outstanding durability of 180 h could be achieved for OER. The overall water splitting made up of the two-electrode system with Fe–MoS2/Ni3S2/NF-2 as both the anode and the cathode required a voltage of only 1.61 V to drive a current density of 10 mA cm−2 along with an outstanding long-term stability of 20 h, displaying its great potential for application in water splitting. The effective construction of multi-component synergistic structures shows a good pathway for high-performance electrocatalysis and energy storage.

Designing and building high-performance bifunctional electrocatalysts is critical for water splitting. Herein, an efficient P-doped molybdenum disulfide/nickel subsulfide (abbreviated as P-MoS2/Ni3S2/NF hereafter) catalyst was rationally prepared through a facile one-step hydrothermal process. The heterogeneous structure formed by the combination of MoS2 and Ni3S2 can improve the electrolytic performance of water in an alkaline medium. The addition of a P source in the reaction reduces the agglomeration of the catalyst, and the electronic structure of MoS2/Ni3S2 is simultaneously optimized by the doped P atoms in MoS2, thus promoting conductivity and increasing the valence state of the Ni species. Low overpotentials of only 136 mV and 95 mV are required to generate 10 mA cm−2 for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), respectively. Most significantly, when P-MoS2/Ni3S2/NF is used as the cathode and anode for the electrolysis of water, a voltage of 1.48 V is required to produce 10 mA cm−2. This work provides feasible ideas for the rational construction of bifunctional catalysts with outstanding performance, which may offer a reference for designing non-precious electrocatalysts for water splitting.

In this study, a cobalt-doped nickel disulfide (Co-Ni 3 S 2 ) catalyst was prepared by a one-step hydrothermal method, which was grown on the surface of firm and dense three-dimensional porous nickel foam (NF). Although researchers have conducted extensive research on heterogeneous catalytic ozonation (HCO) over the past decades, the development of highly efficient, easily separable, stable, and recyclable HCO catalysts is still a bottleneck for practical applications. Taking p-nitrophenol (PNP) as the targeted pollutant, the synergistic effect of Co-Ni 3 S 2 /NF composites and ozone was studied. The results show that Co-Ni 3 S 2 /NF with different doping ratios can degrade PNP by more than 99% within 40 minutes, showing high activity. At the same time, in the cycle experiment, Co-Ni 3 S 2 /NF showed good stability and recyclability compared with the powder catalyst and therefore, the former could reduce water treatment cost. We also found that in the Co-Ni 3 S 2 /NF/O 3 system, the production rates of 1 O 2 , •OH and O 2 •- can be greatly improved, and the process of degradation is synergistic with both non-radicals and free radicals.

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have received widespread attention in various energy related applications due to their unique structural characteristics. Nevertheless, the inherent low electronic conductivity of MOFs is a major limitation for their competitive activity. Herein, we synthesized a self-standing NiFe MOF@Ni3S2 core–shell hierarchical heterostructure through using Ni3S2 grown on nickel foam (NF) as a semisacrificial template, in which the highly conductive Ni3S2 nanosheets core endows the hybrid with rapid charge transfer capability, and the bimetallic NiFe MOF nanosheets provide abundant exposed active sites. Benefiting from the structural and compositional advantages, the enhanced electrocatalytic activity of the as-obtained NiFe MOF@Ni3S2/NF has been achieved toward alkaline oxygen evolution reaction (OER). As a result, the NiFe MOF@Ni3S2/NF only requires overpotentials of 177 and 219 mV to yield OER current densities of 10 and 100 mA cm–2, respectively, and exhibits a very small Tafel slope of 24.1 mV dec–1 and high durability, making it among the most efficient earth-abundant OER catalysts. This study will inspire further construction of MOF-based nanocomposites for applications in electrochemical renewable energy systems.

Ni 3 S 2 -La 2 O 3 heterojunction on sulfur-doped carbon is fabricated. • It achieves 99.05% HMF conversion and 96.62% FDCA selectivity. • Heterojunction boosts charge transfer and lowers reaction energy barrier. • The catalyst reconstructs into Ni(OH) 2 /La 2 O 3 as the true active phase. Herein, we report a ball milling pyrolysis route to prepare highly dispersed Ni 3 S 2 /La 2 O 3 heterostructure nanoparticles immobilized on sulfur-doped carbon (Ni 3 S 2 /La 2 O 3 @SC) for the electrocatalytic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF). Structural characterizations combined with theoretical calculations confirm that the formation of the La 2 O 3 /Ni 3 S 2 heterojunction interface modulates the electronic structure of Ni active sites, thereby enhancing HMFOR performance. Electrochemical performance evaluation shows that Ni 3 S 2 /La 2 O 3 @SC achieves a current density of 100 mA·cm -2 at a potential of 1.697 V vs. RHE, while exhibiting enhanced kinetics for HMF oxidation. I n- situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) further reveals that interfacial charge transfer effectively suppresses the competing oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and promotes HMF oxidation. Through reaction monitoring by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), it is demonstrated that HMF is predominantly converted to 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) via the HMFCA pathway. Under a constant current density of 100 mA·cm -2 , Ni 3 S 2 /La 2 O 3 @SC achieves a HMF conversion of 99.05%, an FDCA selectivity of 96.62%, and a Faradaic efficiency of 82.60%. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further reveal that the formation of the La 2 O 3 /Ni(OH) 2 heterojunction interface not only suppresses the over-adsorption of HMF on Ni–OH sites and lowers the reaction energy barrier for the critical FDCA desorption step in HMFOR, but also enhances charge transfer between reactants and active sites, thereby facilitating the cleavage of key α-C–H and –O–H bonds during HMFOR. The above studies demonstrate the critical role of interfacial charge transfer in modulating the oxidative activity of Ni–OH active sites and enabling efficient HMFOR. Electrooxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) has long been recognized to efficiently produce the bioplastic precursor, 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA). Introducing composite components to construct multiphase interfaces has high potential in modulating the electronic structure of catalysts. Therefore, we synthesized Ni 3 S 2 -CeO 2 /NF using a three-dimensional porous foam nickel scaffold, in-situ grown Ni 3 S 2 /NF via hydrothermal sulfidation, and further incorporated CeO 2 . Characterization with XRD, HRTEM, and SAED confirms the phases of Ni 3 S 2 and CeO 2 and their heterojunctions. XPS analysis shows that CeO 2 increases the Ni 3+ /Ni 2+ ratio; in situ Raman spectroscopy confirms that NiOOH (Ni 3+ ) regenerated from Ni 3 S 2 /Ni(OH) 2 (Ni 2+ ) is the active material for HMF oxidation, complementarily demonstrating that CeO 2 facilitates NiOOH production and that the oxidation process follows an indirect mechanism. Electrochemical analysis shows that at 1.504 V (vs. RHE), Ni 3 S 2 -CeO 2 /NF achieves 99.5% conversion (vs. 83.1%) of 30 mL of 10 mM HMF within 120 minutes, with 99.4% (vs. 89.2%) FDCA selectivity at 97.1% (vs. 78.4%) Faraday efficiency, along with excellent stability, compared to Ni 3 S 2 /NF. DFT calculations indicate that the synergistic effect of CeO 2 enhances HMF adsorption on NiOOH and significantly reduces the activation energies of all associated elementary reactions. This study provides thorough analysis into how Ni 3 S 2 -CeO 2 /NF has enhanced HMF oxidation capabilities.

To address the challenge of high energy consumption (EC) in electrocatalytic nitrate reduction (ERN) for ammonia (NH 3 ) synthesis, this study proposes a dual strategy: engineering advanced anode materials and replacing the sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER) with the thermodynamically favorable urea oxidation reaction (UOR). A three-dimensional nanosheet Co-doped Ni 3 S 2 /NF (Co-Ni 3 S 2 /NF) self-supporting anode was prepared via a facile hydrothermal method. Co doping transformed the morphology from rod-like (Ni 3 S 2 /NF)) to nanosheet flower-like (Co-Ni 3 S 2 /NF), which quantitatively increased the BET surface area and electrochemical active surface area (ECSA) by approximately 7.6 and 14 times, respectively, thereby exposing a greater number of active sites. XRD revealed a ∼ 0.4° positive shift due to lattice contraction (Co 3+ radius 0.545 Å < Ni 2+ radius 0.69 Å), while a 3.1 cm −1 Raman shift indicated strengthened Ni S bonds and enhanced charge transfer. Consequently, the anode exhibited a large electrochemical active surface area (119.54 cm 2 ) and low charge-transfer resistance. It delivered superior catalytic activity, with an OER overpotential 86 mV lower than commercial Pt at 10 mA cm −2 , and a further 149 mV reduction when switched to UOR. Turnover frequency (TOF) analysis revealed that the enhanced performance originated predominantly from the increased density of active sites rather than their intrinsic activity. In combination with a Mn-CoNiP/NF cathode, UOR substitution reduced EC by 21.7 % while maintaining high NH 3 Faradaic efficiency (FE > 98 %), selectivity (SE > 95 %), and a yield rate of 1289.8 mg h −1 g −1 at −0.58 V vs. RHE. The system also demonstrated stable performance over 76 h. These findings highlight the potential of anode modulation via morphology engineering to lower energy demand in ERN, offering a sustainable strategy for efficient NH 3 production and nitrate remediation.

As a key functional molecule in the organosilicon industry, the green synthesis of silyl ethers is crucial for materials science and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Addressing the dual bottlenecks of traditional alcoholysis processes (highly corrosive feedstocks/harmful byproducts) and existing catalysts (high precious metal costs, low non-precious metal efficiency), this study innovatively employs sulfur-containing porous organic polymers (POPs) combined with interfacial engineering strategies. Through precise control of pyrolysis and in-situ nickel salt impregnation, a nickel-sulfur species/heteroatom-doped porous carbon composite catalyst with abundant active interfaces was successfully constructed. Its high-performance catalytic mechanism stems from two key aspects: Interfacial electronic structure modulation: Heteratom-doped carbon supports optimize the d-band centers of nickel species through electronic induction effects. Interfacial defect dynamic construction: The NiS→Ni3S2 phase transition induces high-density sulfur vacancies (SVs) in the interfacial region, significantly enhancing substrate adsorption and activation capabilities. Leveraging the synergistic catalysis of this multifunctional interface, the silane- alcohol dehydrogenation coupling reaction achieves 99% conversion and 99% selectivity. This work establishes a novel “multifunctional interface synergistic catalysis” paradigm integrating electronic modulation, structural evolution, and defect engineering, providing theoretical support and practical solutions for economically sustainable organosilicon synthesis technologies.

Efficient non-noble metals bifunctional electrocatalysts play a significant role in both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) for overall water splitting. Herein, amorphous MoS 2 (a-MoS 2 ) coated Ni 3 S 2 with three-dimensional nanosheets composite architecture supported on nickel foam (a-MoS 2 -Ni 3 S 2 /NF) was prepared via hydrothermal vulcanization Ni(OH) 2 /NF using thiourea and sodium molybdate dihydrate. In this process, the network structure of Ni 3 S 2 nanosheets was primarily formed by in situ vulcanization of the Ni(OH) 2 on nickel foam (NF) and was covered by the amorphous MoS 2 (a-MoS 2 ) nanoflakes as a skeleton at the same time. Not only did the hierarchical nanosheets nanoarrays and self-supported composite architecture of a-MoS 2 -Ni 3 S 2 /NF prevent the accumulation of nanoflakes, increase the active surface area and expose more active sites, but also facilitated the penetration of electrolytes and the transfer of charge/mass. Meanwhile, the synergistic effect between the a-MoS 2 nanoflakes with highly disordered structure and Ni 3 S 2 substrates with high conductivity significantly enhanced the HER and OER activity. The nanosheets composite structure of a-MoS 2 -Ni 3 S 2 /NF demonstrated an extremely low overpotential of 81 at 10 mA cm −2 for HER and 150 mV at 100 mA cm −2 for OER in alkaline conditions, respectively. In particular, when taken as both positive and negative electrodes to the full water electrolysis under alkaline medium, the bifunctional electrocatalyst of a-MoS 2 -Ni 3 S 2 /NF only required the battery voltage of 1.54 V at 100 mA cm −2 .

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and their derivatives have emerged as promising electrode materials in the energy conversion and storage field in the past few years. Herein, hierarchical Ni/Ni3S2 decorated carbon nanofibers (CNFs) have been fabricated based on the template growth of MOFs on pre-oxidized electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers followed by carbonization and sulfurization processes. The formation of Ni and CNFs provides high conductivity, while the hierarchical structure contributes to a large number of exposed redox active sites. Thus the optimized hierarchical Ni/Ni3S2/CNFs achieve a high electrochemical performance as supercapacitor electrodes, exhibiting a specific capacitance of 830.0 F g−1 at 0.2 A g−1 and ideal rate capabilities. In addition, the assembled solid-state supercapacitor delivers a high energy density of 31.6 W h kg−1 at a power density of 1800 W kg−1 and a good capacitance retention of 95.7% after 5000 charge–discharge cycles. This strategy provides a basis for the efficient construction of MOF-derived electrode materials for their application in energy storage systems.
