Chemical oxygen demand (COD) indicates the relative content of organics in water. The electrochemical measurement of COD is a promising ecofriendly alternative method for rapidly, automatically, and highly accurately determining the content of organics in water. However, the key anodes must possess high catalytic efficiency and long-term stability, be easy to prepare, and be free of heavy metal leaching. Therefore, in this study, a SnO2–Sb-based porous anode was prepared using simple coating and calcination. Because of its porous, conductive, and robust Ti felt/Pt (TF/Pt) substrate, the anode (TF/Pt/SnO2–Sb) possessed stable current responses that were highly correlated (R2 = 0.999) with COD measurements in the range of 20–6000 mg L–1. The detection limit was 3.03 mg L–1 (at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3), and the relative standard deviation was within 3.2% (n = 10), which is superior to those of the standard dichromate detection method. The further assembly of a flow-through system with the proposed anode exhibited a wider linear range of up to 8000 mg L–1 at a lower sample injection volume of 50 μL. These results suggest the application potential of the electrochemical method with the porous TF/Pt/SnO2–Sb anode as a reliable alternative for sustainable COD determination.

Nanosheet-assembled microspheres of tungsten oxide doped with antimony were synthesized via hydrothermal method . Sb doping changed the valency of W, promoted a partial crystal phase transition from orthorhombic to hexagonal, and modified the surface morphology . Further, WO 3 is an n-type semiconductor and is sensitive to gases above 100 °C. The Sb-WO 3 sensors in this work were p-type semiconductors from 25 °C to 65 °C, and exhibited excellent sensitivity, fast response and good recovery properties to NH 3 . At 35 °C, the detection limit of 1 at% Sb-WO 3 for ammonia was 200 ppb, and the sensor shows a good stability and selectivity toward several possible interferent . The substantially improved sensing performance of the Sb-WO 3 sensors at near room temperature could be mainly attributed to the change of the W valency promoted via Sb doping.

One-dimensional nanotubes are very useful for achieving excellent performance in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to the fact that tubular structures can effectively alleviate the structural strain and shorten the ion diffusion length during repeated cycling. In this work, we report a Cu2Sb-mediated growth strategy to controllably fabricate highly uniform Sb nanotubes (NTs), as well as Cu@Cu2Sb and Cu2Sb@Sb composite NTs, via a facile galvanic replacement reaction using Cu nanowires (NWs) as sacrificial templates. Benefiting from their structural merits, the Sb NTs manifest excellent sodium storage performance with superior rate performance (286 mAh g–1 at 10 A g–1) and extraordinary cycling stability (342 mAh g–1 after 6000 cycles at 1 A g–1). Furthermore, a full cell with Sb NTs as anode and Na3(VOPO4)2F as cathode exhibits a high energy density (252 Wh kg–1) and high output voltage (2.7 V), revealing their significant application promise in the next-generation SIBs.

In order to recover the antimony from wastewater, a custom-designed fluidized-bed reactor (FBR) was employed to treat antimony-containing wastewater. By single-factor experiments, the effects of the solution pH, the molar ratio of [TA]/[Sb3+], the seed size and dosage, the up-flow velocity (U), and the hydraulic retention time (HRT) on antimony recovery were investigated based on the antimony removal and granulation efficiency. The optimum conditions for antimony recovery were obtained at pH 9.0, the molar ratio of [TA]/[Sb3+] of 2, 6 g/L of 13–38 μm Sb2O3as the fluidized seed, and the U and HRT of 42 m/h and 40 min, respectively; the antimony removal and granulation efficiency reached 95% and 91%, respectively. The granular products were analyzed by an X-ray polycrystalline diffractometer (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) as cubic Sb2O3, widely used in various industries. The fluidized-bed reactor was operated continuously for 7 days, during which the antimony removal and granulation efficiency were stable at 96% and 93%, respectively. This study demonstrated the feasibility of the fluidized-bed granulation process for the recovery of antimony from wastewater. It provides a novel approach for retrieving and managing antimony-containing wastewater.

Antimony (Sb) is a competitive candidate for lithium ion batteries (LIBs) as anode material because of its high theoretical discharge capacity (660 mAh/g). However, it remains a challenge caused by the volume change in the process of charge and discharge, which would damage the Sb anode that lead to poor rate performance and low cycle stability. Herein, we report the synthesis of Sb@S–N–C nanocomposite as the anode material to solve the problem. First, SbSI nanowires with diameter of ∼10 nm were synthesized. Then the SbSI nanowires were coated with polypyrrole (PPy) to form SbSI@PPy core-shell nanowires. By thermal reduction of SbSI@PPy, Sb@S–N–C nanocomposite was formed. Using the Sb@S–N–C nanocomposite as the anode material, a capacity of 536 mAh/g was obtained in 100 cycles at 0.5 A/g. Excitingly, it also exhibited superior reversible and long-cycle non-decay stability with the capacity of 342 mAh/g in 2000 cycles at a high current density of 1A/g.

The high theoretical capacity of Sb-based intermetallic alloys makes them attractive potential anode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) with high energy density . However, their cycling stability is greatly restricted by the huge volumetric variations resulted from the intrinsic (de-)alloying mechanism. Herein, we demonstrate a unique lattice softening mechanism, which enables highly reversible sodium storage and stable cycling of the as-prepared Bi–Sb alloy/carbon nanofibers electrodes. Theoretical analyses show that the elastic modulus of Bi–Sb alloys is reduced whereas the toughness is enhanced by tuning the lattice chemistry of rhombohedral Bi–Sb alloys, which is of great importance in relieving the concentrated stress during the continuous (de-)sodiation processes. In-situ characterization and electrochemical evaluations demonstrate that the electrodes made of BiSb 3 /C nanofibers exhibit high anti-pulverization capability upon Na-cycling and extraordinary long-life cyclability. Specifically, a highly reversible capacity of 233.2 mAh g −1 at 2 A g −1 is achieved over 2500 cycles. Moreover, a full cell assembled with the pre-sodiated BiSb 3 /C anode and a Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 /C cathode delivers a high reversible capacity of 333.2 mAh g −1 at 0.2 A g −1 over 200 cycles. This present work provides further understandings and new solution for developing high-performance alloying-based anodes for SIBs.

Antimony, as the anode of potassium ion batteries, has a satisfactory theoretical specific capacity (660 mAh g −1 ). However, the lattice expansion after potassization and insufficient conductivity of antimony hinder the practical application of Antimony based electrodes. A novel synthesis strategy for necklacelike biomass derived carbon fibers linked with MOF encapsulated Sb nanoparticles composite electrode is reported, wherein the unique structure of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is utilized to achieve nanoscale confinement and the inherent adsorption properties of fungi are exploited to construct conductive networks. The unique carbon encapsulation of MOF materials effectively controls the size of antimony particles and limits the expansion after potassization. The fixation of one-dimensional carbon fiber can prevent the powdering and shedding of the active materials and improve the cycle life of the composite electrodes. Electrochemical experiments and theoretical calculations show that NCFs@Sb@C anode has good conductivity and fast potassium ion diffusion kinetics. After 400 cycles at 1 A g −1 , NCFs@Sb@C still has a high reversible specific capacity of 129.3 mAh g −1 , which is significantly better than that of NCFs and Sb@C. In addition, the full cell of NCFs@Sb@C anode matched with PTCDA cathode exhibits good cycling stability, demonstrating the practical application potential of this composite electrode.

FeMn-HATP was synthesized as an efficient Sb(III) adsorbent. • Synergistic oxidative adsorption by FeMn-HATP enhances Sb(III) removal efficiency. • Kinetic, isotherm, and thermodynamic studies investigated FeMn-HATP adsorption. • An Sb(III) degradation mechanistic pathway is proposed. • FeMn-HATP demonstrated excellent regeneration performance in fixed-bed column tests. An affordable, environmentally friendly, simple adsorbent for Sb(III) removal from aqueous solutions was prepared using attapulgite (ATP) as the matrix, and FeSO 4 and KMnO 4 as metal precursors, through an in situ precipitation approach. The morphology, pore structure, and surface chemical properties of the material were analyzed using various characterization techniques. The results indicate that the iron-manganese bimetallic-modified acid-activated ATP (FeMn-HATP) surface is loaded with relatively uniformly distributed iron and manganese components, and its specific surface area and pore structure differ significantly from the original ATP. These changes promote pollutant molecule diffusion and contact. In batch adsorption experiments, FeMn-HATP achieved good Sb(III) removal performance and remained relatively stable within a pH range of 4 −10. The material maintained a relatively stable adsorption capacity even in the presence of high concentrations of other anions. Adsorption of Sb(III) by the modified ATP better conforms to both Elovich kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models, with a theoretical maximum adsorption capacity of 102.79 mg/g at 318.15 K. Fixed-bed cycling experiments demonstrated that FeMn-HATP retained significant adsorption capacity after five NaOH regenerations, with a dynamic adsorption capacity of 14.68 mg/g and a regeneration efficiency of 68.16%. Overall, FeMn-HATP exhibits good potential for Sb(III) removal with a degree of reusability, indicating promise for the treatment of antimony-containing wastewater. A facile chemical vapor deposition strategy was developed to fabricate SnO 2 -Sb REM • The nanocrystalline structure of SnO 2 -Sb promoted the generation of ·OH effectively • The novel SnO 2 -Sb REM showed strong mineralization ability and low energy consumption • Extensive applicability and stability in actual wastewater treatment were achieved Developing a SnO 2 -Sb reactive electrochemical membrane (REM) with high efficiency and stability for water purification is of great significance for its practical industrial implementation. In this study, a stable and efficient SnO 2 -Sb REM with SnO 2 nanocrystalline catalytic layer was fabricated on TiO 2 -NTs substrates via a facile low-temperature chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method, without the need for specialized fabrication equipment. Structural characterizations demonstrated that the prepared SnO 2 -Sb layer exhibits high-quality crystalline interfaces, with cube-shaped nanocrystals of approximately 10 nm in size. Furthermore, the catalytic performance of the REM was assessed by florfenicol (FLO), a broad-spectrum antibiotic, as the target pollutant. Compared with the REM fabricated via the traditional sol-gel method (denoted as TiO 2 -NTs/SnO 2 -Sb REM), the TiO 2 -NTs/SnO 2 -Sb-NC REM significantly enhanced hydroxyl radical (·OH) generation, leading to 14.7% improvement in FLO removal and 39% reduction in electric energy (EE/O). The FLO degradation performance was also affected by flow rate, current density, initial FLO concentration and pH. Moreover, its excellent applicability and long-term stability were verified by high pollutant removal efficiency in actual pharmaceutical and high-salinity wastewater. These results highlight the great potential of the TiO 2 -NTs/SnO 2 -Sb-NC REM for practical water treatment applications. Download: Download high-res image (214KB) Download: Download full-size image

Developing environmentally benign luminescent materials with high emission efficiency, recyclability, and dynamically tunable optical properties is crucial for sustainable optical information encryption. However, achieving green synthesis, scalable production, and stimulus-responsive optical tunability simultaneously remains challenging. Herein, Sb-doped rare-earth halide perovskite phosphors are rapidly synthesized via a low-energy aqueous-phase evaporation-crystallization strategy, avoiding organic solvents and corrosive reagents, and enabling gram-scale production. The obtained Cs2NaYCl6:Sb, Cs2KYCl6:Sb, Rb3YCl6:Sb and Rb2ScCl5·H2O:Sb phosphors exhibit multicolor emission from blue to orange with photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) exceeding 80%. They feature three-dimensional or zero-dimensional crystal structures with micrometer-scale irregular morphology, along with excellent long-term UV and thermal stability. Benefiting from reversible dissolution-recrystallization behavior in water, the phosphors show outstanding recyclability, retaining around 80% PLQY and nearly unchanged decay dynamics after 15 cycles. In addition, structure-dependent solvent-responsive luminescence is observed, where DMSO treatment followed by drying induces distinct emission transformations. By integrating multicolor emission with stimulus-triggered optical transitions, a multilevel optical information encryption and decryption system with triple dynamic encryption is demonstrated, highlighting the potential of these materials for sustainable optical security and information storage applications.

Antimony (Sb) is regarded as a promising anode material for sodium ion batteries (SIBs) on account of its high theoretical specific capacity (∼660 mAh g–1) and low cost. However, the large volume expansion (∼390%) during charging has inhibited its practical application. Herein, hexagonal Sb nanocrystals encapsulated by P/N-co-doped carbon nanofibers (Sb@P-N/C) were prepared using a low-cost but mass-produced electrospinning method. The as-prepared Sb@P-N/C, used as anode material for SIBs, exhibits unexpected cycling stability and rate capability, with 500.1 mAh g–1 at 50 mA g–1 after 200 cycles and 295.6 mAh g–1 at 500 mA g–1 after 400 cycles. Especially, the full battery fabricated by Na (Ni1/3Fe1/3Mn1/3) O2 || Sb@P-N/C possesses a reversible specific capacity of 66.8 mAh g–1 at 50 mA g–1 over 60 cycles. This simple and low-cost fabrication technology combined with unique crystal morphology offers new strategies for the advancement of sodium ion batteries (SIBs) in energy storage and electrical transportation.

Incorporation of oxophilic metals into Pd-based nanostructures has shown great potential in small molecule electrooxidation owing to their superior anti-poisoning capability. However, engineering the electronic structure of oxophilic dopants in Pd-based catalysts remains challenging and their impact on electrooxidation reactions is rarely demonstrated. Herein, we have developed a method for synthesizing PdSb-based nanosheets , enabling the incorporation of the Sb element in a predominantly metallic state despite its high oxophilic nature. Moreover, the Pd 90 Sb 7 W 3 nanosheet serves as an efficient electrocatalyst for the formic acid oxidation reaction (FAOR), and the underlying promotion mechanism is investigated. Among the as-prepared PdSb-based nanosheets, the Pd 90 Sb 7 W 3 nanosheet exhibits a remarkable 69.03% metallic state of Sb, surpassing the values observed for the Pd 86 Sb 12 W 2 (33.01%) and Pd 83 Sb 14 W 3 (25.41%) nanosheets. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and CO stripping experiments confirm that the Sb metallic state contributes the synergistic effect of their electronic and oxophilic effect, thus leading to an effective electrooxidation removal of CO and significantly enhanced FAOR electrocatalytic activity (1.47 A mg −1 ; 2.32 mA cm −1 ) compared with the oxidated state of Sb. This work highlights the importance of modulating the chemical valence state of oxophilic metals to enhance electrocatalytic performance, offering valuable insights for the design of high-performance electrocatalysts for electrooxidation of small molecules.
