MOFs are usually used as efficient adsorbents to remove specific pollutants in water. However, because of their poor water stability relatively small particle size, their application in adsorbing and removing pollutants from water is limited. In this paper, with nitrile rubber sponge as the substrate, UiO-66-NH 2 /sponge composites were firstly in-situ synthesized and systematically evaluated UiO-66-NH 2 as an adsorbent to remove 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid from water. This composite could not only remain the adsorption capacity for 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid of UiO-66-NH 2 , but also was much more convenient for separation after the adsorption compared to UiO-66-NH 2 . In addition, the mechanism of the adsorption of UiO-66-NH 2 for 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid were discussed in detail. Electrostatic interaction between UiO-66-NH 2 and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid was the main adsorption mechanism. The adsorption was mainly suitable for Langmuir isotherm models, and its maximum adsorption capacity of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid was 72.99 mg g −1 .

In this work, we synthesized core-shell NH 2 -UiO-66@UiO-67 via a solvothermal method to achieve controlled assembly of amino-modified UiO-66 and UiO-67 at micro and nano scale. NH 2 -UiO-66@UiO-67 exhibited notable visible light responsiveness and an increased specific surface area.In addition, it demonstrated outstanding performance in Cr(VI) removal, which can be attributed to the photocatalytic conversion of Cr(VI) into less toxic Cr(III), and the adjustable pores and large specific surface area facilitating Cr(III) adsorption. Notably, it exhibited a robust removal efficiency across a wide pH range of 2.0 to 10.0. Specifically, at pH = 2.0, the Cr(VI) solution with a concentration of 60 mg/L was completely removed within 140 min. The results show that the adsorption of core-shell NH 2 -UiO-66@UiO-67 meets the pseudo-second-order adsorption kinetics and has the ability of photocatalytic reduction of Cr (VI).

Oxytetracycline (OTC), a broad class of antibacterial medication, has been widely utilized in poultry husbandry and fish farming. However, the presence of OTC residues in the food has become a matter of great concern. These residues have the potential to induce the emergence and spread of bacterial resistance, which can have far-reaching consequences for public health. In this work, we focused on the comparison of the quenching efficiency of UiO-66 and its amino group-modified counterpart UiO-66-NH 2 , towards the fluorescence of nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (NGQDs) labeled aptamer (NGQDs-apt). It was found that UiO-66-NH 2 demonstrated a more potent fluorescence quenching ability towards NGQDs-apt, as high as 98.8 %, compared to 69.7 % for UiO-66 without amino functionalization. This enhanced performance is attributed to the improved interaction between the amino groups on UiO-66-NH 2 and the NGQDs-apt, facilitating more effective electron transfer. Consequently, UiO-66-NH 2 was selected as the optimal quencher for the development of a highly sensitive aptasensor. This aptasensor demonstrates a quantitative detection range for OTC spanning from 0.001 to 200 μM with an exceptionally low detection limit of 0.25 nM, showing simplicity, accuracy, stability and great potential for antibiotic residue detection in food samples. This work addresses the urgent need to develop reliable methods for detecting OTC residues in food due to the potential of OTC to trigger bacterial resistance, which is crucial for food safety and public health.

PET (poly(ethylene terephthalate)) is one of the most important type of thermoplastic polyesters and widely used in various fields. Titanium-based catalysts are environmentally friendly and have higher catalytic activity than antimony-based catalysts when used in industry. However, titanium-based catalysts are prone to hydrolysis and result in discolored products. UiO-66 (Zr/Ti) with different Ti 4+ contents were successfully synthesized via one-step method. The material was characterized by XRD, SEM, FT-IR, XPS, BET and TG techniques. The results demonstrates that Ti 4+ was integrated into the UiO-66 framework. NH 3 - in situ DRIFTS, pyridine-IR, and NH 3 -TPD were used to explore the acidic properties of the samples, which proved that stable Lewis acidic sites are present in the samples even at 300 °C. The catalytic performance of UiO-66 (Zr/Ti) containing different Ti 4+ was explored under different conditions. At the same time, the scale-up experiment was carried out in a 5 L reactor, and the PET chips obtained had a lower b value. The catalytic reaction mechanism of UiO-66(Zr/Ti) was demonstrated by DFT calculations and the catalytic performance was close to Sb-based catalysts.

To address the issue of thermal runaway in lithium-ion batteries while simultaneously enhancing their electrochemical performance, this study fabricated a sandwich-structured composite separator of PVDF-HFP@UIO-66/PEO/PVDF-HFP@UIO-66 via electrospinning, which was further enhanced by impregnation with PMMA. In this design, the two outer PVDF-HFP@UIO-66 layers aim to improve electrochemical performance and mechanical stability, while the PEO core layer enables thermal shutdown at approximately 67 °C. The composite separator exhibits high ionic conductivity (3.25 mS cm −1 ), excellent thermal dimensional stability, and good mechanical strength (13.6 MPa). Cells assembled with this separator achieved an initial discharge specific capacity of 166.2 mAh g −1 at 0.5C, with a capacity retention rate of 97.9% after 100 cycles, significantly outperforming cells using a commercial separator (133.1 mAh g −1 , 96.9%). Accelerating rate calorimetry (ARC) tests further confirm its exceptional safety, delaying the time to reach the thermal runaway critical temperature by 194.1 min and raising that critical temperature by 4.5 °C. This work presents an effective strategy for designing battery separators that combine high safety with superior electrochemical performance.

Compared with the traditional liquid–liquid extraction method, solid-phase extraction agents are of great significance for the recovery of indium metal due to their convenience, free of organic solvents, and fully exposed activity. In this study, P 2 O 4 (di-2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid) was chemically modified by using UiO-66 to form the solid-phase extraction agent P 2 O 4 -UiO-66-MOFs (di-2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid-UiO-66-metal-organic frameworks) to adsorb In(III). The results show that the Zr of UiO-66 bonds with the P-OH of P 2 O 4 to form a composite P 2 O 4 -UiO-66-MOF, which was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The adsorption process of indium on P 2 O 4 -UiO-66-MOFs followed pseudo first-order kinetics, and the adsorption isotherms fit the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. The adsorption capabilities can reach 192.8 mg/g. After five consecutive cycles of adsorption-desorption-regeneration, the indium adsorption capacity by P 2 O 4 -UiO-66-MOFs remained above 99%. The adsorption mechanism analysis showed that the P=O and P-OH of P 2 O 4 molecules coated on the surface of P 2 O 4 -UiO-66-MOFs participated in the adsorption reaction of indium. In this paper, the extractant P 2 O 4 was modified into solid P 2 O 4 -UiO-66-MOFs for the first time. This work provides a new idea for the development of solid-phase extractants for the recovery of indium.

Concentrated pig production is a major source of environmental pollution. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) show potential for reducing heavy metal pollution. Two zirconium-based octahedral MOFs, UiO-66 and UiO-66-NH 2 , were prepared by solvothermal method and were characterized by XRD, SEM, FT-IR, and BET. The adsorption capacity, treatability, and reusability of the adsorbents were tested in batch experiments. The optimum adsorbent dosage was 4 g/L, and the maximum removal rates at room temperature of chromium (Cr), manganese (Mn), iron (Fe), nickel (Ni), and Arsenic (As) on UiO-66 were 76.93%, 93.73%, 88.81%, 83.30%, and 86.11%, respectively. In the kinetic experiments, the adsorption process achieved equilibrium within 90 min and generally conformed to the quasi-second kinetics model. The results demonstrated that UiO-66 and UiO-66-NH 2 can be used over a wide range of pH for removal of most HMs on a large scale. Meanwhile, the adsorbents maintained excellent adsorption capacity after at least 3 cycles. Overall, UiO-66 and UiO-66-NH 2 have a high potential for practical application on the recovery of heavy metals in the complex wastewater from animal farms.

Due to the modifiable properties and excellent stability, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered potential catalyst supports in heterogeneous reactions. UiO-66 with varying water contents were synthesized as supports of Pd for the carbonylation of methyl nitrite (MN) to dimethyl carbonate (DMC). In accordance with XRD, NH 3 -TPD, and SEM, the water contents showed a negative correlation on the amounts of acid sites and accelerated crystal aggregation. The Pd/UiO-66(x) demonstrated perfect selectivity of DMC (> 99%) and good CO conversion which were increased with the decrease of water contents. Moreover, the catalysts deactivated at the beginning of the reaction, and the catalytic deactivation was due to the damage of the C = O structure in UiO-66 frameworks. This work revealed the influence of water contents on the synthesis of UiO-66 and the deactivation process of MOF-based catalysts in MN carbonylation to DMC. Graphical

Heavy metal contamination in water poses a serious global environmental challenge. In particular, hexavalent chromium (Cr (VI)) is particularly concerning due to its carcinogenicity and genotoxicity. In this work, core–shell NH2–UiO-66@UiO-67 nanoparticles (NPs) were in situ stepwise grown on sulfonated polypropylene (PP) nonwoven to fabricate a multifunctional composite (NH2–UiO-66@UiO-67/PP composite nonwoven) for efficient removal of Cr (VI). As expected, the resulting NH2–UiO-66@UiO-67/PP composite nonwoven exhibited dual functionality for efficient Cr (VI) remediation: simultaneous adsorption and visible-light-driven photocatalytic reduction, accompanied by effective sequestration of the resulting Cr (III), due to the presence of NH2–UiO-66@UiO-67 NPs. Under visible light irradiation, the composite achieved exceptional performance, reducing Cr (VI) concentrations from 0.608 mg/L to below 0.004 mg/L and lowering total Cr concentrations from 0.876 mg/L to below 0.004 mg/L, corresponding to a removal efficiency of over 99.6%. The mechanism was elucidated as an integrated adsorption-reduction-fixation process. More importantly, the composite demonstrated outstanding recyclability, retaining 80.0% of its removal efficiency after five regeneration cycles, highlighting its practical potential. Therefore, the as-obtained NH2–UiO-66@UiO-67/PP composite nonwoven can be viewed as a highly efficient material for treating Cr (VI)-contaminated wastewater through an adsorption-photocatalytic reduction pathway.

Antibiotic tolerance is implicated in difficult-to-treat infections and the development and spread of antibiotic resistance. The high storage capacities and excellent biocompatibilities of UiO-66-based metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have made them emerging candidates as drug-delivery vectors. In view of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) having been associated with the development of intrinsic resistance to antibacterial agents, we designed a strategy to potentiate existing antibiotics by eliminating bacterial endogenous H2S. We efficiently fabricated an antibiotic enhancer Gm@UiO-66-MA to remove bacterial H2S and sensitize an antibacterial by modifying UiO-66-NH2 with maleic anhydride (MA) and then loading it with gentamicin (Gm). UiO-66-MA achieved the removal of bacterial endogenous H2S and the destruction of bacterial biofilm by selectively undergoing Michael addition with H2S. Moreover, Gm@UiO-66-MA further enhanced the susceptibility of tolerant E. coli to Gm after reducing bacterial intracellular H2S levels. An in vivo skin wound healing experiment confirmed that Gm@UiO-66-MA could greatly reduce the risk of bacterial reinfection and accelerate wound healing. Overall, Gm@UiO-66-MA offers a promising antibiotic sensitizer for minimizing bacterial resistance and a therapeutic strategy for tolerant bacteria-related refractory infections.

A mesoporous UiO-66-NH 2 aerogel is prepared via a straightforward sol–gel method without using any binders or mechanical pressures, in which the amine groups are directly introduced into the matrix by using 2-aminoterephthalic acid. The novel UiO-66-NH 2 aerogel also exhibits high specific surface area and mesopore-dominated structure, implying its highly potential use in CO 2 adsorption. For ulteriorly investigating the effect of amine loading on the CO 2 adsorption ability, a series of UiO-66-NH 2 aerogel with different amino content is fabricated by changing the ligand/metal molar ratio. When the molar ratio is 1.45, the CO 2 adsorption capacity reaches the optimum value of 2.13 mmol·g −1 at 25 °C and 0.1 MPa, which is 12.2% higher than that of pure UiO-66 aerogel. Additionally, UiO-66-NH 2 -1.45 aerogel also has noticeable CO 2 selectivity against N 2 and CH 4 as well as good regeneration stability. Such results imply that it has good application prospect in the field of CO 2 adsorption, and also contains the potential to be applied in catalysis, separation and other fields.

Environmental pollution of phosphorus is becoming increasingly concerning, and phosphate removal from water has become an important issue for controlling eutrophication. Modified metal–organic framework (MOF) materials, such as UiO-66-NH 2 , are promising adsorbents for phosphate removal in aquatic environments due to their high specific surface area, high porosity, and open active metal sites. In this study, a millimeter-sized alginate/UiO-66-NH 2 composite hydrogel modified by polyethyleneimine (UiO-66-NH 2 /SA@PEI) was prepared. The entrapping of UiO-66-NH 2 in the alginate microspheres and its modification with PEI facilitate easy separation in addition to enhanced adsorption properties. The materials were characterized by SEM, FTIR, XRD, and BET. Static, dynamic, and cyclic adsorption experiments were conducted under different pH, temperature, adsorbent dosage, and initial concentration conditions to assess the phosphate adsorption ability of UiO-66-NH 2 /SA@PEI. Under optimal conditions of 65 °C and pH = 2, 0.05 g UiO-66-NH 2 /SA@PEI adsorbed 68.75 mg/g, and the adsorption rate remained at 99% after five cycles of UiO-66-NH 2 /SA@PEI. These results suggest that UiO-66-NH 2 /SA@PEI composite materials can be used as an effective adsorbent for phosphate removal from wastewater.
