Nanozymes have been widely used in the field of biosensing owing to their high stability, low cost and adjustable catalytic activity. It is of great value to develop methods to construct nanozymes and to study their application. Here, a bimetallic synergistic enhancement CuFe@TA nanozyme was obtained by a simple and environmentally friendly one-pot aqueous phase method, in which Cu 2+ and Fe 3+ were bound to tannic acid (TA) by the strong coordination. In this process, the polyphenols in TA have reducing property that ensure the formation of hetero-valent metal pairs (Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ , Cu 2+ /Cu + ), thus enhancing the conversion of H 2 O 2 into more reactive radical species. Notably, the synthesized CuFe@TA nanozyme exhibited higher oxidase-like and peroxidase-like catalytic activities than a single metal ion due to the synergistic effect of the two transition metal components. Besides, based on the cascade catalysis of glucose oxidase (GOx) and CuFe@TA nanozyme, a sensitive colorimetric sensing platform for glucose assay was constructed with a good linear range of 3.03 ∼ 363.6 µM and a calculated limit of detection of 2.59 µM. This as-developed method was applied to detect glucose in real human serums and juice drink samples sensitively and accurately, consistent with measurement results made by commercial glucose meters. This work broadens the species of nanozymes, and provides a more sensitive glucose detection platform in medical diagnostics and the food industry.

Cubic phase Li 7 La 3 Zr 2 O 12 (LLZO) is a promising electrolyte material for all-solid-state rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. The homogeneous densification of the garnet solid electrolyte ceramic material is crucial for enhancing its ionic conductivity performance. Herein, an Al/Ta co-doped strategy is employed to stabilize the cubic phase structure of LLZO and is combined with a two-step sintering method to enhance densification, in order to investigate its effect on microstructure, ionic conductivity, and electrochemical properties . During the formation process, amorphous Li 2 O reacts with doped Al 2 O 3 to create a Li–Al–O liquid phase at the grain boundaries. Combined with two-step sintering to ensure that the desired material transformation is achieved, resulting in a dense microstructure and better mechanical properties. The solid electrolyte Li 6.4 Al 0.1 La 3 Zr 1.7 Ta 0.3 O 12 under two-step sintering (LLZATO-2) is successfully synthesized, delivering an ionic conductivity up to 7.33 × 10 −4 S cm −1 at room temperature and an activation energy of 0.22 eV. This work also highlights the critical role of co-doping combined with two-step sintering in preparing well-performing solid-state electrolytes and all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries.

Weak antilocalization (WAL) effect is commonly observed in low-dimensional systems, three-dimensional (3D) topological insulators and semimetals. Here, we report the growth of high-quality Ta 0.7 Nb 0.3 Sb 2 single crystals via the chemical vapor transport (CVT). Clear sign of the WAL effect is observed below 50 K, probably due to the strong spin—orbital coupling in 3D bulk. In addition, it is worth noting that a relatively large MR of 120% appears under 1 T magnetic field at T = 2 K. Hall measurements and two-band model fitting results reveal high carrier mobility (>1000 cm 2 · V −1 ·s− 1 in 2–300 K region), and off-compensation electron/hole ratio of ∼8:1. Due to the angular dependence of the WAL effect and the fermiology of the Ta 0.7 Nb 0.3 Sb 2 crystals, interesting magnetic-field-induced changes of the symmetry of the anisotropic magnetoresistance (MR) from two-fold (≤ 0.6 T) to four-fold (0.8–1.5 T) and finally to two-fold (≥ 2 T) are observed. This phenomenon is attributed to the mechanism shift from the low-field WAL dominated MR to WAL and fermiology co-dominated MR and finally to high-field fermiology dominated MR. All these signs indicate that Ta 0.7 Nb 0.3 Sb 2 may be a topological semimetal candidate, and these magnetotransport properties may attract more theoretical and experimental exploration of the (Ta,Nb)Sb 2 family.

Retrieval of rare earth ions from dilute wastewater produced from in-situ leach mining is a crucial approach to effectively mitigate the shortage of rare earth resources, and the employment of the membrane technology for recuperation of ionic rare earths is an energy-efficient and eco-friendly solution. In this study to optimize the use of the membrane technology for ionic rare earths recovery, TA@MOF-808 was fabricated by combining tannic acid (TA) with MOF-808 and then incorporated as nanoparticles into a polyetherimide (PEI) base membrane. On this basis, PA/PEI-TA@MOF-808 thin-film composite membranes were prepared via interfacial polymerization. TA@MOF-808 with its hydroxyl and carboxyl functional groups generated hydrogen and covalent bonds with the secondary amine groups of piperazine (PIP), which stored PIP and regulated its diffusion rate into the organic phase. Thereby, the membrane surface charge was modulated under acidic conditions, and a separation layer was reconstituted, improving the structural and operational stability of the membranes. The PA/PEI-TA@MOF-808 membrane exhibited a water flux of 42.1 L·m −2 ·h −1 , and La 3+ , Y 3+ , and Gd 3+ retention rates of 97.7 %, 96.7 % and 97.4 %, respectively. Separation tests, acid resistance tests, long-term operational stability tests and actual rare earth wastewater treatment tests revealed the PA/PEI-TA@MOF-808 membrane possessed outstanding ionic rare earth separation capability, consistent membrane flux, notable acid resistance, and operational stability, suggesting a bright future in the application for ionic rare earth recovery.

The influences of Cr 3 C 2 addition on phase formation, microstructures and mechanical properties of (Zr,Ti,Nb,Ta,Hf)C prepared from binary carbides mixtures by spark plasma sintering were studied. The introduction of 4/3 mol.% Cr 3 C 2 significantly lowered the minimum temperature for uniform high-entropy phase (Zr,Ti,Nb,Ta,Hf)C from 2200 °C for to 1900 °C. The lower solubility limit of Cr in (Zr,Ti,Nb,Ta,Hf,Cr)C results in excessive Cr 3 C 2 -based carbides, which tends to segregate along grain boundaries at higher sintering temperatures while locate at triple junctions at lower sintering temperatures . High mechanical strength of 599 MPa were obtained when 4/3 mol.% Cr 2 C 3 was added and sintered at 1900 °C. The fine grain size and Cr 3 C 2 -based carbides are responsible for the high mechanical properties. More Cr 2 C 3 addition results in lower mechanical properties due to excessive Cr 3 C 2 -based carbides.

The majority of current methods of isolating circulating tumor cells (CTCs) rely on a biomarker. However, the isolation efficiency may be compromised due to the heterogeneity of CTCs. In this work, a simple and broad-spectrum method is established to efficiently isolate the heterogeneous CTCs from patient blood samples using tannic acid (TA)-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). The TA-functionalized MNPs (MNPs-TA) inhibit the nonspecific adhesion of peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) and enhance cancer cell capture, resulting from the unique interaction between TA and glycocalyx on cancer cells. The MNPs-TA was demonstrated to effectively capture seven kinds of cancer cells (HeLa, PC-3, T24, MAD-MB-231, MCF-7, HT1080, A549) from artificial samples (62.3–93.7%). Moreover, this epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM)-independent CTC isolation method was also tested using clinical blood samples from patients with different cancers (21 patients), which may provide a universal tool to detect CTCs in the clinic.

With the rapid development of flexible electronics and wireless communication technologies, lightweight and flexible electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials are in high demand. However, conventional homogeneous MXene/polymer composites often exhibit excessive surface reflection and insufficient internal electromagnetic attenuation. In this work, a tannic acid-modified MXene (TA@MXene)/waterborne polyurethane (WPU) composite film with a thickness-direction asymmetric structure was fabricated through a solution-casting process combining gravity-driven sedimentation and solvent evaporation. TA modification improved the dispersion stability of MXene nanosheets and facilitated the formation of an asymmetric conductive structure within the WPU matrix. The resulting composite film exhibited anisotropic electrical conductivity and effective EMI shielding performance in the X-band. At a TA@MXene loading of 12.5 wt%, the film achieved an EMI shielding effectiveness of 34.3 dB and an SSE/t value of 4975 dB cm 2 g −1 . In addition, the composite film maintained good mechanical flexibility, tensile strength, and improved flame-retardant performance. This work demonstrates an effective strategy for constructing multifunctional MXene-based flexible shielding materials through spatial regulation of conductive networks.

To address the issues of energy-consuming fabrication, poor mechanical properties, and low sensing sensitivity of conventional hydrogel sensors, this study reports the development of an iron-tannic acid (Fe-TA)-mediated autocatalytic strategy for the rapid construction of “covalent-ionic” dual-crosslinked cellulose-based hydrogels. This system spontaneously generates radicals at room temperature through the redox cycle of Fe-TA and ammonium persulfate, driving the polymerization of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) with acrylamide to achieve ultrafast in-situ formation of the hydrogel within 119 s. By introducing carboxylated cellulose nanofibers (CCNFs) and utilizing Fe 3 + ion coordination, a dual-crosslinked network hydrogel (denoted as CAMFFE hydrogel) was constructed, leading to markedly improved mechanical properties with a compressive strength of 386 kPa and an elongation at break of 528%. Benefiting from the multifunctional integration of Fe 3+ (catalysis, crosslinking, and conductivity), this hydrogel strain sensor exhibits high sensitivity with a gauge factor (GF) ranging from 1.46 to 4.16, and rapid response (0.3 s) and recovery (0.5 s) over the strain range of 0–500%, along with strong adhesion to substrates such as wood and skin (up to 85.7 kPa). The study further demonstrates its versatile applications in human motion monitoring and wireless handwritten recognition, providing new materials and valuable design insights for the development of high-performance, sustainable flexible electronic devices.

Dual surface functionalization of ZnO NPs with QPEI and TA fabricates two novel dental resin nanofillers. • 2 wt% functionalized ZnO NPs endow dental resins with balanced physicochemical and biological performances. • QPEI-modified ZnO NPs confer excellent antibacterial ability against Streptococcus mutans to composites. • TA-functionalized ZnO NPs significantly enhances the calcium-phosphate deposition capacity of dental resins. • The multifunctional composites exhibit good cytocompatibility and great potential for secondary caries prevention. To impart antibacterial activity and calcium-phosphate deposition capability to dental resin composites (DRCs) and thereby reduce the risk of secondary caries, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were surface-functionalized with quaternized polyethyleneimine (QPEI) and tannic acid (TA), yielding two functional nanofillers, termed ZQ and ZT, respectively. The modified nanoparticles were incorporated into DRCs, and their physicochemical properties, cytocompatibility, antibacterial performance, and calcium-phosphate deposition behavior were systematically evaluated. The results demonstrated that composites containing 2 wt% functionalized nanoparticles (DZQ2 and DZT2) achieved the most balanced overall performance. Both materials satisfied the ISO 4049 curing-depth requirement and exhibited enhanced mechanical properties, favorable hydrolytic stability, and good cytocompatibility, with cell viabilities exceeding 80%. Functional evaluation revealed distinct biological effects associated with the two surface modification strategies. DZQ2 exhibited strong antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans (88.14 ± 1.70%), whereas DZT2 promoted greater calcium-phosphate deposition, showing a higher Ca/P ratio (1.08) than DZQ2 (0.83) after 28 days of immersion in artificial saliva. Overall, surface functionalization of ZnO nanoparticles provides an effective strategy for tailoring the biological performance of dental resin composites. The developed materials combine favorable physicochemical properties, antibacterial activity, and calcium-phosphate deposition capability, demonstrating potential as multifunctional restorative materials for reducing the risk of secondary caries. A TA-PEI “molecular bridge” strategy was devised for robust in-situ growth of ZIF-8 on PES membranes. • The composite membrane exhibited 175.48 L·m −2 ·h −1 flux and 98.29% oil rejection. • The membrane exhibited outstanding stability in highly alkaline (pH 12) environments. • Mechanical strength was significantly improved due to ZIF-8 reinforcement and crosslinking synergy. The treatment of highly alkaline, surfactant-stabilized oily wastewater from electroplating pretreatment poses a significant challenge for membrane technology. Conventional polyethersulfone (PES) ultrafiltration membranes suffer from severe fouling and chemical degradation under such harsh conditions. To address these dual limitations of performance and stability, this study developed a “blending-in-situ growth” strategy to fabricate a ZIF-8/TA-PEI/PES composite membranes. The TA-PEI interlayer acts as a molecular bridge, enabling uniform and robust anchoring of the ZIF-8 coating. The optimized membrane exhibited a pure water flux of 175.48 L·m −2 ·h −1 (≈4.5× that of pristine PES) and a high flux recovery rate of 75.86%. For surfactant-stabilized oil-in-water emulsions, it achieved 98.29% rejection, maintaining 96.54% efficiency over 10 cycles. Crucially, it demonstrated exceptional alkali resistance, retaining 92.17% rejection after 72 h at pH 12, alongside a tripled tensile strength (3.01 MPa). This work provides a durable and high-performance membrane solution engineered specifically for the demanding separation of complex industrial wastewater. Traditional yttria-stabilized zirconia and conventional high-entropy fluorite oxides (HEOs) are crucial materials as thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) in high-temperature engineering applications. However, corrosive deposits of molten calcium-magnesium-alumino-silicate (CMAS) on the surface induce severe thermochemical degradation, thereby severely deteriorating the structural integrity and thermal efficiency of the coating system. To enhance the CMAS corrosion resistance of HEOs, this study introduces a novel doping strategy that utilizes the ultrafast high-temperature sintering (UHS) method to co-incorporate tantalum (Ta 5 + ) and multi-principal rare-earth (RE) ions into the fluorite-structured HEO matrix. The UHS method enables rapid preparation of Ta-doped HEO within 60 s, while maintaining the single-phase fluorite structure. The doping of Ta 5+ ions significantly enhances the reaction with Si and Ca elements in the CMAS melt, thereby promoting the crystallization of CaTa 2 O 6 , Ca 2 Al 2 SiO 7 , and MgAl 2 O 4 phases, while the formed CaTa 2 O 6 particles serve as heterogeneous nucleation substrates for anorthite precipitation. Concurrently, the participation of multiple RE ions in the precipitation of Ca 2 RE 8 (SiO 4 ) 6 O 2 and separated RE-MeO 2−δ phase consolidates with the CaTa 2 O 6 phase to form a dense multiphase composite layer at the interface, effectively hindering the diffusion of CMAS melt through both physical blocking and chemical inhibition. Ultimately, this study provides a practical basis for designing the next generation of corrosion-resistant TBC materials capable of withstanding extreme environments. Download: Download high-res image (265KB) Download: Download full-size image In this work, the dense Ta 5+ -doped HEOs were successfully fabricated by the UHS method. After following prolonged corrosion in molten CMAS salts at 1300 °C, the significant phase separation occurred in the undoped HEO ceramic, while a substantial reaction interface layer on the surface of the HEO ceramic. Meanwhile, a compact surface layer comprising apatite and phase-separated fluorite phases formed, effectively blocking further CMAS penetration. It is worth noting that the corroded 0.2Ta-doped HEO after the CMAS corrosion reaction generates enriched Ta 5+ and RE ions in the CMAS melt. This increased the reaction with Si and Ca element at high temperatures, promoting substantial crystallization of the CaTa 2 O 6 , Ca 2 Al 2 SiO 7 , and MgAl 2 O 4 phases. Meanwhile, the interface layer formed a densely structured surface composed primarily of apatite, secondary fluorite phases, and CaTa 2 O 6 particles. When the temperature was elevated to 1500 °C, the atomic mobility within CMAS increased, and the growth rate of the interfacial reaction layer formed by 0.2Ta-doped HEO significantly reduced, demonstrating that the compact reaction layer retains its ability to inhibit CMAS corrosion even at elevated temperatures. Thin-film composite (TFC) nanofiltration (NF) membranes generally face a challenging balance between permeability and selectivity when separating saline water with a high Mg 2+ /Li + ratio, and are also vulnerable to fouling and operational instability during prolonged operation. This study presents a dual ionic liquid (IL) mediated reverse interface polymerization (RIP) strategy. A hydrophilic polar intermediate layer is generated on the PES substrate via the co-deposition of tannic acid (TA) and [HEMIm][BF 4 ]. Subsequently, the organic phase containing TMC is first introduced on the surface of this intermediate layer, and then the PEI aqueous phase doped with hydrophobic IL ([C 6 mim] [Tf 2 N]) is introduced to trigger the RIP reaction. TIL-PIL membranes with rapid hydration behavior, a high positive surface charge (IEP pH = 9.5), excellent antifouling properties, and a uniform pore-size distribution were constructed for Mg 2+ /Li + separation. The separation factor (SF) of the membrane attained 88 at a feed Mg 2+ /Li + mass ratio of 300, while maintaining a high salt water permeation flux of 13.58 LMH. Throughout the permeation process, the Mg 2+ /Li + ratio diminished from 300 in the feed to 1.2 during permeation. Moreover, the membrane demonstrated exceptional long-term stability throughout a continuous 100 h filtration experiment, with the Mg 2+ rejection rate consistently surpassing 98.5%. Compared with the RNFm membranes prepared on PES substrates without IL incorporation, the TIL-PIL membranes exhibit significantly improved antifouling performance.
