The hazardous red mud (RM) with high As/F mobility and heavy metal contaminated soil have constituted severe environmental threats. This work demonstrates a “waste to eco-material” strategy through a reliable and low-cost protonation approach to eliminate the As/F leaching risk of RM, and then recycle it as heavy metal passivators for Pb/As polluted soil remediation . The As/F anions have been immobilized by the protonated Fe/Al (hydr)oxides within RM via the formation of stable As/F compounds during the protonation process, which satisfies the requirement by the World Health Organization (As leaching <0.01 mg/L; F leaching <0.8 mg/L). Moreover, in the oilseed rape pot experiments, by adding 30 g/kg stabilized RM into Pb/As polluted soils (100 ~ 300 ppm), benefited from its large adsorption capacity, approximately 40.9 ~ 49.7% Pb and 40.8 ~ 54.8% As concentrations in the plant are reduced without adverse effects. The whole process for RM treatment and soil remediation is cost-effective, straightforward and eco-friendly without secondary pollution or soil degradation . This research provides a green chemical strategy to address both RM recycling and heavy metal contaminated soil remediation problems, which shows high economic feasibility and ecological benefits.

The F-doped and carbon coated Li4Ti5O12−xFx/C (LTOF/C) composite anode materials are synthesized via a conventional solid-state reaction with lithium citric acid as the conductive carbon source, and LiF as the fluorine source. The structure and electrochemical properties of the LTOF/C materials are investigated and the effects of carbon coating and F ion doping on the performance of as-prepared materials are discussed. Under a potential range from 0.01 to 2.5 V, LTOF/C exhibits better reversibility and higher cyclic stability compared with LTO and LTO/C, especially at high current rates. The initial specific discharge capacity is 325.6 mA h g−1 at a current density of 170 mA g−1, and remains about 165 mA h g−1 over 1000 cycles when the current density increases to 850 mA g−1. The main factors influencing the excellent performances should be attributed to the cooperation of the F-doping and carbon-coating, which can increase the amount of mixed Ti3+/Ti4+, leading to improved ionic conductivity and electron conductivity in LTO at the same time.

Antiperovskites have developed to be one kind of important functional material over the past few decades, showing abundant physical properties such as negative thermal expansion and superconductivity, etc. However, antiperovskite ferroelectrics have scarcely been discovered in inorganic ceramics. In this article, we report a new organic–inorganic hybrid antiperovskite ferroelectric [(CH3)2(F-CH2CH2)NH]3(CdCl3)(CdCl4) based on the strategy of molecular design. The replacement of one methyl in [(CH3)3NH]CdCl3 with ethyl produces the lower symmetric [(CH3)2(CH2CH3)NH]CdCl3 with nonpolar perovskite structure, while the polar hexagonal antiperovskite structure with the formula of X3BA (where X = [(CH3)2(F-CH2CH2)NH]+, B = [CdCl3]−, and A = [CdCl4]2–) was received after further fluoridation of the ethyl group. Therefore, fluoridation successfully achieves the structural transformation from perovskite to antiperovskite, as well as the significant changes in physical properties from nonferroelectric to ferroelectric. The antiperovskite [(CH3)2(F-CH2CH2)NH]3(CdCl3)(CdCl4) exhibits typical ferroelectric phase transition above room temperature (Tc = 333 K) including thermal anomalies, dielectric transitions, and second harmonic generation (SHG) responses. Moreover, lower coercive fields and easy polarization switching are observed by the measurements of hysteresis loops and ferroelectric domains. The saturated polarization (Ps) of 4.0 μC/cm2 is almost 10 times as large as those recently discovered antiperovskite molecular ferroelectrics. This finding provides a novel strategy to design and explore more antiperovskite organic–inorganic hybrid ferroelectric materials.

We reported an experimental and theoretical study on the promotion role of F doping in the improved catalytic performance of fluorinated graphene(F-GO) for ammonium perchlorate (AP) pyrolysis. F-GO was prepared by using graphite oxide (GO) as carbon sources and CF3COOH as fluorinating agent. Compared with other samples, the F-GO-180 with the highest F doping amounts, more C-F semi-ionic and C-F covalent bond amounts exhibit superior catalytic performance, as 10 wt% of catalyst added in AP, the exothermic peak temperature proceeded in just one step was even lower than the HTD peak temperature for pure AP and the released apparent specific heat of the thermal decomposition of AP catalyzed by F-GO-180 is 4261.2 J/g, which is almost sevenfold of that of pure AP (603.5 J/g). The doping of F atoms in graphene increased surface defects and the content of C-F semi-ionic and C-F covalent bond amounts of F-GO, which provided more active sites during the thermal decomposition of AP. The molecular simulation calculation results further confirmed that the F doping could react with the defect structure of graphene to form more C-F semi-ionic and C-F covalent bond, which could act as catalytic active sites and facilitate the electron transfer ability of the graphene to promote the formation of free radicals in the reaction.

Overcoming the mismatched adsorption energies is critical for efficient alkaline hydrogen electrocatalysis, yet modulating the strong Ru–O covalency without compromising structural integrity remains a key challenge. Herein, we address this by introducing ionic Ru–F bonds into selected regions of RuO 2 via tailored chemical bond engineering for enhanced hydrogen evolution and oxidation reactions (HER/HOR). Using fluorine‑doped amorphous RuO 2 (F‑RuO 2 ) nanosheets as a model catalyst, we find that electrons around fluorine atoms can become highly localized, forming ionic-character Ru–F bonds. This design results in a low HER overpotential of 32 mV at 100 mA cm −2 and delivers a high HOR diffusion-limiting current density of 2.98 mA cm −2 , positioning F-RuO 2 among the best‑performing Ru‑based electrocatalysts yet reported. Moreover, the anion-exchange-membrane water electrolyzer with F-RuO 2 can maintain a cell voltage of 1.60 V at 100 mA cm −2 for over 300 h with negligible degradation. In-situ spectroscopic analysis and density functional theory calculations reveal that the formed Ru–F bonds weaken Ru–O covalency and moderately lower the Ru oxidation states, optimizing hydrogen‑intermediate adsorption toward the ideal range and enhancing both HER and HOR electrocatalysis. This work offers fundamental insights into covalent‑bond modulation in amorphous oxides and establishes a generalizable design paradigm for high-performance electrocatalysts in sustainable energy conversion. The ionic Ru–F bonds reduce the covalency of RuO 2 and optimize the adsorption behaviour of the Ru sites, enabling F‑RuO 2 to exhibit superior reaction kinetics and catalytic activity in both HER and HOR. Alumina (Al2O3)-based catalysts are widely used for the catalytic hydrolysis of CF4, where coordinatively unsaturated Al (AlIII) sites cooperate with surface hydroxyl groups to facilitate C–F bond activation. However, the catalytic performance of conventional Al2O3 is strongly limited by the low abundance of AlIII sites and the insufficient reactivity of hydroxyl species, making high temperatures necessary for complete CF4 conversion. In this study, we report a single-atom Fe modification strategy (Fe1/Al2O3) that promotes CF4 hydrolysis by simultaneously increasing the fraction of AlIII sites and enhancing the Brønsted acidity of surface hydroxyl groups. 27Al magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR) spectroscopy showed that the incorporation of isolated Fe atoms increased the proportion of AlIII sites from 2.1% to 9.9%, corresponding to a 4.7-fold enhancement. Pyridine-IR (Py-IR) results further indicated that the Brønsted acidity associated with surface −OH species on Fe1/Al2O3 was 5.4 times higher than that of pristine Al2O3. In addition, temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and in situ infrared spectroscopy revealed much stronger CF4 adsorption and C–F bond activation ability over Fe1/Al2O3. Consequently, Fe1/Al2O3 delivered complete CF4 decomposition at 580 °C and maintained stable performance for more than 200 h, whereas pure Al2O3 only achieved 56% conversion and remained stable for 30 h. These findings provide a viable strategy for the rational design of highly active catalysts for low-temperature CF4 hydrolysis.

Molecular ferroelectric materials exhibit structural tunability and high flexibility, demonstrating significant potential in flexible electronics and wearable sensing applications. Herein, we use nonpolar piperidinium tetrafluoroborate PipBF4 (1, Pip+ = piperidine) as the precursor. We designed and synthesized an organic–inorganic hybrid ferroelectric, (4,4-DFPD)BF4 (2, 4,4-DFPD+ = 4,4-difluoropiperidinium), via H/F substitution strategy. Single-crystal structural analysis indicates that the introduction of fluorine atoms successfully induces symmetry breaking in the crystal structure, causing it to crystallize at room temperature in the ferroelectric space group Pca21. At the Curie temperature, the (4,4-DFPD)BF4 transitions from an ordered ferroelectric state to a disordered paraelectric state. This (4,4-DFPD)BF4 exhibits a phase transition temperature (Tc = 398 K), spontaneous polarization, and piezoelectric properties (d33 ≈ 28 pC/N). Based on the piezoelectric properties of (4,4-DFPD)BF4, we fabricated flexible composite films of (4,4-DFPD)BF4/PBAT PBAT = poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate). These films achieve mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion without additional polarization treatment, delivering an output voltage up to 4 V at the optimal composition. This flexible sensor can stably monitor various physiological signals ranging from large-scale human joint movements to minute vocal cord vibrations. It exhibits high durability, exceeding 2000 cycles.

Geometric singularities are known to concentrate electric and optical fields, but whether curvature alone can localize thermal energy and thereby influence chemical kinetics remains unresolved. Here, we show experimentally and computationally that nanoscale curvature generates localized thermal fields that directly lower reaction barriers in heterogeneous catalysis. Using γ-Al 2 O 3 architectures with systematically varied curvature, nanoneedles, micro-needles, and spheres, while maintaining comparable composition, phase, acidity, and defect states, we observe curvature-dependent temperature localization of up to ∼30 °C at nanoneedle tips under identical external heating. In situ infrared thermography confirms hotspot formation, and operando vibrational spectroscopy reveals enhanced water dissociation and increased *CF 3 intermediate populations during CF 4 decomposition. These effects reduce the apparent activation energy and enable complete CF 4 decomposition at 580 °C, substantially below that required for lower-curvature structures. The results establish curvature-induced thermal localization as a general physical mechanism linking geometry to interfacial energy density and reaction kinetics, providing a universal design principle for activating strongly bound molecules.

Superhydrophobic materials offer promising prospects for utilization in energy, environmental, and related fields. However, their long-term stability in natural environments is constrained by factors such as mechanical wear and aging, which compromise their practical effectiveness and service life. While notable experimental results have been obtained worldwide, scalable application remains limited by the complexity of the requisite fabrication processes. In this study, a durable superhydrophobic coating was developed through a facile one-step process, utilizing a polyaspartic ester (PAE) matrix reinforced with a composite of self-synthesized fluorinated silica (F-SiO2) and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) micro-/nano-structures. This strategy effectively enhanced filler dispersion within the resin matrix and promoted hydrophobicity, yielding a stable superhydrophobic surface. The resulting coating exhibits significant potential for scalable application. The optimized coating demonstrated a water contact angle of 161.2° and a roll-off angle of 7.6°, showing excellent repellency to water, corrosive liquids, and fluids across a wide pH range, along with remarkable self-cleaning performance. Benefiting from the synergistic enhancement of h-BN and F-SiO2, the coating also exhibits superior mechanical durability, maintaining a contact angle of 144.4° after 1000 abrasion cycles. Furthermore, in low-temperature anti-icing tests, the coating significantly delayed ice formation on its surface. Notably, after 1000 h of UV aging tests, the F-SiO2@BN/PAE coating retained its intact superhydrophobic structure, with the water contact angle only slightly decreasing from 159.6° to 152.8°, still within an excellent superhydrophobic state, demonstrating outstanding weather resistance. By integrating surface functionalization with mechanical reliability through a facile one-step fabrication process, this study provides significant insights for the large-scale application of hydrophobic materials in the energy and transportation sectors.

Cation regulation is a compelling strategy for developing new compounds with optimized crystal structure by atomic-scale manipulation. Herein, we report two new SBBO-like fluoroberyllium borates, SrMgBe₂(BO₃)₂F₂ (SMBBF) and SrZnBe₂(BO₃)₂F₂ (SZBBF). They crystallize in a trigonal system and feature a [Be₃B₃O₆F₃]∞ single layer stabilized by the incorporation of Mg²⁺/Zn²⁺ cations and F⁻ cations. Both compounds exhibit deep-UV absorption edges below 200 nm. Theoretical calculations confirm their potential as deep-UV birefringent materials, with correspinding birefringence values of 0.064 (SMBBF) and 0.063 (SZBBF) at 589 nm, respectively. This work demonstrates the effectiveness of cation regulation in designing novel borate-based optical materials.

In this paper, a novel Cu/F co-doping strategy is proposed to modify the electrochemical performance of Sr 2 Fe 1.5 Mo 0.5 O 6– δ (SFM) cathode for intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). The pristine SFM, Cu-doped Sr 2 Fe 1.4 Cu 0.1 Mo 0.5 O 6− δ (SFCM) and Cu/F co-doped Sr 2 Fe 1.4 Cu 0.1 Mo 0.5 O 5.9− δ F 0.1 (SFCMF) powders were synthesized by acid-glycine combustion method, and the impacts of Cu/F co-doping on the performance of SFM cathode were investigated systematically. It's found that Cu-doped SFCM has higher oxygen vacancy content and electrical conductivity than the pristine SFM and Cu/F co-doped SFCMF cathodes. While the Coulombic force between B-sites metallic ions and oxygen ions are significantly weaken for SFCMF, enhancing the mobility of lattice oxygen. Due to the combined effects of Cu and F doping, SFCMF cathode exhibits the best electrochemical performance among all investigated samples. At 600 °C, the polarization resistant for SFCMF cathode is 1.79 Ω cm 2 , decreased by 43.71 % in contrast to the parent SFM cathode. These results indicate that Cu/F co-doping is an effective strategy to improve the electrochemical properties of perovskite cathode materials.
