Effective hollow Rh@H-S-1 catalyst for hydroformylation of 1-hexene

Gongcheng Sun,Subing Fan,Junmin Lv,Tiansheng Zhao

A hollow zeolite encapsulated Rh catalyst Rh@H-S-1 with an “eggshell” structure was prepared using the method of organic alkali treatment and recrystallization. Compared with catalysts with directly encapsulated Rh@S-1 and surface impregnated Rh/S-1, this catalyst exhibited both superior activity and a higher TOF value in hydroformylation of 1-hexene due to the high dispersion of Rh and high diffusion. The Rh element did not need to be reduced in the preparation, and it was in situ reduced by the syngas. The content of lower valence Rh δ+ gradually increased with the reaction procedure and played as an active center. The low oxidized state Rh + or Rh δ+ in the form of Rh(CO) 2 are proposed as active sites in hydroformylation, which were generated under the synergistic effect between CO and H 2 . Importantly, the hollow encapsulated catalyst effectively decreased Rh leaching to 0.1 ppm and showed better stability compared with the impregnated Rh/S-1 catalyst.

Aliphatic C–H Insertion Strategies Enhancing Interactions among Waste Rubbers for Recycling

Hao-Jia Guo,Xiaodong Qiao,Ben-Xiang Hu,Shuangquan Liao,Ming-Chao Luo

The recycling of waste rubber (WR) is beneficial to the sustainable development of rubber industries. However, interactions among WR are weak, limiting the recycling of WR. In this work, our group designed bis-diazo compounds to promote interactions among WR for recycling through aliphatic C–H insertion strategies. Specifically, upon hot pressing, bis-diazo compounds produce bis-carbenes which react with C–H on the surface of WR by C–H insertions, and then we obtain recycled WR materials. As a result, stress–strain curves show that the strength of recycled WR increases steadily with the increase of bis-diazo compound loading, which has reached the level of butadiene styrene rubbers. Moreover, the introduced disulfide bonds endow recycled WR with reprocessability. Stress–relaxation experiments at different temperatures show that recycled WR with disulfide bonds have unique vitrimer viscoelastic properties. The feasibility of bis-diazo compounds to enhance interactions among WR through C–H insertions opens opportunities to recycle and reinvent industrial WR.

Ortho C–H Bond Activations in an Atmospheric Microwave Plasma Ion Source

Guanru Chen,Fengjian Chu,Shuheng Zhang,Wangyu Li,Shiwen Zhou,Wei Wei,Weiwei Chen,Xiaozhi Wang,Lei Yue,Hongru Feng,Yanli Cui,Yuanjiang Pan

C–H bond ortho-substitution reaction has always been a significant and challenging topic in organic chemistry. We proposed a synthesis method based on microwave plasma torches. High-resolution mass spectrometry was used to monitor rapid reaction products. 2-Alkylbenzimidazole can be formed through the reaction of phenylnitrenium ion and nitriles on a millisecond scale. This reaction can achieve the one-step formation of benzimidazoles from benzene ring single-substituted compounds without the addition of external oxidants or catalysts. A similar C–H bond activation reaction can be accomplished with ketones. Meanwhile, the microwave plasma reactor was modified, and the resulting 2-methylbenzimidazole was successfully collected, indicating the device has good application potential in organic reactions such as C–H bond activation reaction.

Robust and Superhydrophobic CelluMOF Triboelectric Materials Enabled by H-Bond/Ionic Coordinations

Zhengmei Wu,Chenchen Cai,Xiangjiang Meng,Yanhua Liu,Tao Liu,Zhenxia Zhao

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) enable self-powered real-time monitoring of pipeline vibration states in chemical engineering systems, providing an effective approach for intelligent operation and maintenance of critical chemical equipment. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can effectively enhance the output performance of TENGs. MOFs can go beyond the original characteristics of their powder form and be customized into different shapes to adapt to the intended applications. However, MOF-based triboelectric materials are typically limited by their poor mechanical properties and high sensitivity to humidity. In this study, the H-bond/ion coordination strategy is employed to immobilize Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) onto delignified wood, successfully designing a cellulose-MOF (CelluMOF) triboelectric material with excellent mechanical properties and superhydrophobic performances. The wood's porous structure induced directional alignment of MOFs along the pore channels, significantly improving mechanical performance. Furthermore, hydrophobic modification is performed on the material surface, achieving a contact angle of 152.6°, demonstrating outstanding humidity stability. The CelluMOF triboelectric material combines the mechanical toughness of wood with the functional properties of MOFs. A self-powered vibration sensor constructed using this material demonstrates exceptional sensitivity, achieving an average identification accuracy of 97.8% in detecting pipeline vibrations. Remarkably, it maintains stable performance even at 85% RH.

Oxide support mediated [FeO4] domains steering C–H activation in propane dehydrogenation

Xiaoxia Tao,Peng Wang,Run Hou,Huafei Liao,Fenghai Cao,Yajie Fu,Yang Chen,Lizhi Wu,Yu Tang,Li Tan

Supported iron-based catalysts have emerged as promising candidates for alkane dehydrogenation due to their excellent sulfide resistance, cost-effectiveness, and environmental advantages to meet the needs of industrial applications. However, the practical application of iron-based catalysts is hindered by insufficient catalytic activity and rapid deactivation, primarily caused by the reduction/sintering of metastable iron species and concomitant carbon deposition during the reaction. This work systematically investigates the divergent catalytic behaviors of alumina- versus silica-supported Fe catalysts in propane dehydrogenation (PDH). Comprehensive characterizations demonstrate that the surface acidic alumina support establishes strong metal-support interactions (MSI) with electron-rich [Fe 2.4+ O 4 ] domains, effectively enhancing catalytic activity with a propane conversion of 29 % and 80 % propylene selectivity, outperforming silica-supported counterparts. At the same time, the robust active structure of [Fe 2.4+ O 4 ] in the 3Fe/Al 2 O 3 catalyst matches good regeneration capability, enabling suffered from six reaction-regeneration cycles. Moreover, this study indicates that effective propane dehydrogenation requiring synergistic interplay between FeO x speciation and acid sites on the support surface.

Regulating the H adsorption on supported RuO2 toward efficient Hydrogen evolution catalysis

Fangfang Wan,Donghao Ye,Yajin Ye,Jia Wang,Yinyu Xiang

The development of bifunctional Ru-based electrocatalysts with high efficiency for both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in acidic electrolytes is highly desirable. However, most Ru-based catalysts display inadequate HER activity and unsatisfactory OER stability. Herein, we present a facile synthesis of a heterojunction catalyst by confining RuO 2 nanoclusters on Fe 3 O 4 nano-capsules substrates (named RuO 2 @Fe 3 O 4 ). The RuO 2 @Fe 3 O 4 , with its unique morphology facilitating efficient site accessibility and rapid mass transfer, exhibits excellent HER activity with a low overpotential of 79.5   mV and a large exchange current density of 1.12   mA   cm -2 . Remarkably, RuO 2 @Fe 3 O 4 demonstrates exceptional durability, maintaining 100   h at 100   mA   cm -2 with only 5.9% activity decay. Additionally, the RuO 2 @Fe 3 O 4 catalyst displays prominent oxygen OER activity and stability. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirm that electron transfer from Fe to Ru optimizes the hydrogen adsorption energy of the Ru site, making it the main active site. This work provides a viable route for developing bifunctional Ru-based catalysts.

High-performance all-solid-state electrochromic devices driven by ultrafast H+ transfer

Run Li,Fan Lan,Aike Xi,Di Gao,Yunrui Li,Ya Huang,Siming Zhao,Yilin Ding,Yanlong Zhao,Rufan Zhang

As an energy-efficient technology, electrochromic devices (ECDs) represent a promising solution for smart windows in buildings and vehicles. However, conventional all-solid-state ECDs suffer from sluggish ion diffusion. Here, we propose a high-performance all-solid-state ECD enabled by a rapid H + transfer pathway. A solid-state polyaniline (PANI) interface serves as an efficient H + reservoir, replacing Li + ions to drive electrochromism in Prussian blue (PB). By integrating a sodium-ion-conducting solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) above PANI, H + ions are selectively pumped into PB via an ion exchange mechanism. The PANI network also stabilizes PB’s framework by preventing anion/solvent intercalation. The optimized ECDs exhibit exceptional performance: fast switching speeds (1.2 s coloration, 3.0 s bleaching), high optical modulation (72.5% at 600 nm), and robust cycling stability (>5,000 cycles with <10% decay). Furthermore, large-area flexible ECDs (20 × 30 cm 2 , ∼0.4 mm thickness) are demonstrated, highlighting their potential as replaceable smart films for energy-efficient buildings and vehicles.

Polyaniline-Modified Niobium-Doped h-WO3 Nanowires for Lithium-Ion Battery Anodes

Ayesha Tariq,Muhammad Daniyal Ghouri,Kamran Amin,Mathar Hamza,Behroz Khan,Bin Wang

In this study, we presented a gram-scale synthesis and the electrochemical evaluation of niobium-doped, PANI-coated tungsten oxide hexagonal nanowires (NWs) as high-performance anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). The polyaniline treatment of the doped NWs significantly enhanced their electrochemical properties as anode materials for LIBs. The PANI-coated, Nb-doped WO3 hexagonal NWs exhibited a 2.59-fold increase in specific capacity and an approximately 8.57-fold increase in the lithium-ion diffusion coefficient compared to bare WO3 hexagonal NWs. The analysis of the charge storage mechanism revealed that the anode kinetics involve both diffusion and surface adsorption processes. Our strategy provides a strong foundation for possible commercialization of the tungsten oxide hexagonal nanowires for next-generation lithium-ion batteries.

Dearomative Dichloromethylation of Chromium-Bound Arenes and Formal Arene C–H Dichloromethylation

Yi Jin,Ming-Yang Wang,Wei-Long Zeng,Chu-Qiao Li,Wei Li

The dichloromethyl group is a valuable functional motif in bioactive molecules and synthetic chemistry. Despite its utility, the dearomative dichloromethylation of arenes remains a significant challenge and has been largely unexplored. Herein, we develop a chromium η6-coordination-enabled strategy for dearomative 1,2-hydrodichloromethylation of arenes using inexpensive CH2Cl2 as the dichloromethylating source, providing efficient access to dichloromethylated 1,3-cyclohexadienes. Furthermore, by altering the workup to oxidative quenching with I2, this system is extended to formal arene C–H dichloromethylation, delivering dichloromethylated arenes directly. The method features a broad substrate scope, excellent functional group compatibility, and successful application in the late-stage modification of complex drug molecules.

Atomically dispersed Rh on manganese oxide nanorod for catalytic C-H ammoxidation

Huixin Wu,Jinghao Fan,Liang Wang,Hai Wang

Selective ammoxidation of sp 3 -hybridized C-H bonds is very important in the pharmaceutical and fine-chemical industries. However, simultaneous activation of the C-H bond and ammonia is difficult due to the competitive adsorption of ammonia and hydrocarbons on metal sites, which poisons the catalyst. In this study, we report an atomically dispersed rhodium (Rh) catalyst supported on manganese oxide nanorod that exhibited high activity and selectivity for the C-H bond ammoxidation under mild reaction conditions, outperforming the conventional supported metal catalysts and homogeneous manganese catalysts under the equivalent conditions. Mechanistic studies reveal that the manganese oxide nanorod with potassium ions in the tunnels significantly hindered the ammonia poisoning to Rh, providing free Rh sites for C-H bond activation and enhancing the ammonia-resistance of the catalyst. This work provides an opportunity to improve the efficiency of industrially important reactions that suffer from catalyst deactivation due to surface poisoning.

Direct Gating of the TRPM2 Channel by cADPR via Specific Interactions with the ADPR Binding Pocket

Peilin Yu,Zhenming Liu,Xiafei Yu,Peiwu Ye,Huan Liu,Xiwen Xue,Lixin Yang,Zhongtang Li,Yang Wu,Cheng Fang,Yong Juan Zhao,Fan Yang,Jian Hong Luo,Lin-Hua Jiang,Liangren Zhang,Lihe Zhang,Wei Yang

Summary cADPR is a well-recognized signaling molecule by modulating the RyRs, but considerable debate exists regarding whether cADPR can bind to and gate the TRPM2 channel, which mediates oxidative stress signaling in diverse physiological and pathological processes. Here, we show that purified cADPR evoked TRPM2 channel currents in both whole-cell and cell-free single-channel recordings and specific binding of cADPR to the purified NUDT9-H domain of TRPM2 by surface plasmon resonance. Furthermore, by combining computational modeling with electrophysiological recordings, we show that the TRPM2 channels carrying point mutations at H1346, T1347, L1379, S1391, E1409, and L1484 possess distinct sensitivity profiles for ADPR and cADPR. These results clearly indicate cADPR is a bona fide activator at the TRPM2 channel and clearly delineate the structural basis for cADPR binding, which not only lead to a better understanding in the gating mechanism of TRPM2 channel but also shed light on a cADPR-induced RyRs-independent Ca 2+ signaling mechanism.
