As the adsorption technique was concerned, the facile, intact and low-cost separation process of adsorbents was desirable to the prospective feasible application. In present work, the nano-Ag 2 O particles were encapsulated in the hollow nanostructure of halloysites (HNTs) with the aid of CTAB-stabilized HNTs micelle by the space confinement method, and then the nano-Ag 2 O@HNTs nanocomposite was assembled in PVP/PAN electrospinning nanofiber membrane (NFM), and finally PVP template was removed through etching method, so as to access the hierarchical-porous structure. The structure and composition of nano-Ag 2 O@HNTs/PAN NFM were resolved by a series of characterizations. The nano-Ag 2 O@HNTs/PAN NFM not only was of abundant multi-pore structure with larger specific surface area of 23.484 m 2 /g and higher pore volume of 0.111 mL/g, but also exhibited excellent mechanical performance, of which the tensile strength and Young's modulus were up to 6.1 MPa and 75.9 MPa, respectively. Thanks to the existence of the exclusive pore structure and nano-Ag 2 O, the nano-Ag 2 O@HNTs/PAN NFM showed better adsorption desulfurization performance in the simulated thiophene (TH) oil, of which the breakthrough and saturated adsorption capacity were as high as 35.269 mg/g and 54.481 mg/g, respectively. Ultimately, the adsorption mechanism of TH molecules on the nano-Ag 2 O@HNTs/PAN NFM could be taken into account the synergistic effect of the porous diffusion , interface adsorption and active site adsorption.

The selective adsorption desulfurization technology is considered to be of energy conservation and environment-friendly operation. However, the ongoing development of adsorption desulfurization is greatly restricted by the adsorbents with preferable mechanical properties and sustainable separation efficiency. In this paper, a submicron-sized Cu 2 O necklace-shaped polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofiber composite membrane (Cu 2 O/PAN NFM) was prepared by electrospinning technology. The structure and mechanical properties of NFM were determined by a series of characterizations. The results showed that the resulting Cu 2 O/PAN-NFM has a larger total pore volume (0.0802 mL/g), higher tensile strength (5.65 MPa) and lower friction coefficient (0.2571) than those of PAN nanofiber membrane (PAN NFM). The static and dynamic adsorption performances of the Cu 2 O/PAN NFM were investigated with thiophene(TH) simulated oil. The results showed that the static and dynamic saturated adsorption capacities of the Cu 2 O/PAN NFM were up to 32.91 mg/g and 4.57 mg/g at 500 mg/L initial concentration, respectively. Besides, the adsorption kinetics and isotherms of TH on the Cu 2 O/PAN NFM indicated that the TH adsorption data are fitting to Avrami model and Liu isotherm. In addition, the exclusive notable merits of the Cu 2 O/PAN NFM expressed at the robust mechanical properties and outstanding separation efficiency while keeping the sustainable adsorption capacity after the repeated recycling, which exhibited a promising application towards adsorption desulfurization.

The diaphragm is a key component of the lithium-ion battery and largely determines its performance. Currently, commercial diaphragms suffer from poor thermal stability, low porosity, and low liquid absorption rate. In this study, we prepared a polyurethane/polyacrylonitrile (PU/PAN) lithium-ion battery diaphragm using a centrifugal spinning method with PU as the main substrate and PAN as the additive. The results showed that the PU/PAN nanofiber diaphragm prepared by centrifugal spinning had a 3D porous structure, and when using 18% PU:PAN = 7:3, the porosity of the fiber diaphragm was 83.9%, the liquid absorption rate was 493%, and the ionic conductivity was 1.79 mS/cm. The battery system had good electrochemical performance and thermal stability, with an electrochemical stability window of 5.2 V. The diaphragm did not shrink when heated at 160 °C. In a lithium-ion battery system with lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) as the cathode material, the capacity remained at 147.1 mAh/g after 50 cycles at a 0.2 C rate, with a capacity retention rate of 95.8%. This indicated excellent cycle stability and a multiplicative performance with good application potential. Keywords:centrifugal spinning;nanofiber;lithium-ion battery separator;polyurethane;polyacrylonitrile

Auto-oxidation occurs during pan-frying of hand-grasp pancakes. • Hydrolysis was observed during the pan-frying process. • Lipid degradation was detected in hand-grasp pancakes during pan-frying. • The content of unsaturated fatty acids decreased following pan-frying. • The levels of unsaturated triacylglycerols declined post pan-frying. This study investigated the effects of pan-frying on fat quality in hand-grasp pancakes. The results demonstrated that fats exhibited significant quality deterioration: acid value increased by 50%–85%, peroxide value rose by 175%–490%, and p-anisidine value elevated by 65%–430%. The increments of conjugated diene value and conjugated triene value ranged from 20% to 50% and 35% to 73%, respectively. Meanwhile, the DPPH radical scavenging capacity decreased by 3%–30%, indicating a remarkable decline in antioxidant activity. Statistical analysis revealed consistent compositional changes in post-frying fats: the average free fatty acid (FFA) content in fats of the six brands of hand-grasp pancakes increased by 113.04%, whereas the average contents of unsaturated fatty acid (UFA) and unsaturated triacylglycerol (UUU) decreased by 1.81% and 4.82%, respectively. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements confirmed the presence of alkyl radicals (R•) in pancake fats verifying that autooxidation served as the primary oxidation pathway of fats in hand-grasp pancakes. This study provides theoretical foundations for the development of dedicated fats and quality improvement of hand-grasp pancake products.

Fluoride contamination in groundwater and the disposal of spent adsorbents remain critical environmental challenges. Herein, a series of monolithic Ca-containing MgAl layered double hydroxide/polyacrylonitrile nanofiber membranes (Mg 2-x Ca x Al-LDH/PAN) were fabricated via electrospinning, which combine the high adsorption performance of LDH with the exceptional separability of nanofibrous matrices. Mg 1.9 Ca 0.1 Al-LDH/PAN showed 96.2% removal efficiency for 10 mg/L F - and maximum adsorption capacity of 16.7 mg/g at 25 °C in a batch reactor, and achieved a specific treatment rate of 150 L/kg/h in a fixed-bed column. The adsorption mechanisms were elucidated through combined experimental and DFT studies. More importantly, rather than following conventional regeneration routes, the spent fluoride-laden adsorbent was converted through pyrolysis into a fluorine-doped carbon-based electrode material. This upcycled material retained a high-surface-area fibrous structure and exhibited enhanced oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity compared to its non-fluorinated counterpart. This work presents an “adsorb-and-transform” paradigm that integrates efficient water decontamination with sustainable recovery of functional materials for energy applications. In this study, novel polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs)-based hollow fiber structured packings were prepared by a facile pour-coating method and successfully applied as structured packings for isopropanol (IPA)/water distillation. The design of an ultrathin PIM-1 layer on the inner surface of hollow fibers effectively protected the membrane from mechanical damage, especially when assembled into the module. Based on the material properties and specific polymer chain structures, the hydrophobic PIM-1 layer made composite membranes to not only have a strong affinity for alcohols and moisture resistance but also possess a large surface area and excellent stability, which effectively decreased the membrane resistance and promoted the fast membrane transfer rate during the distillation process. The prepared PIM-1/PAN hollow fiber structured packings with a controllable defect-free PIM-1 layer down to 34 nm can be easily operated far beyond the normal flooding limit and achieve a very low height of a mass transfer unit (HTU) of 4.0 cm.

The polyacrylonitrile/polyvinylidene fluoride (PAN/PVDF) chelating membrane with amidoxime groups was prepared to simultaneously remove metallic and organic pollutants from mimic industrial wastewater. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the interaction between metal ions and protein molecules, and synergistic effects on the pollutant removal efficiency through the chelating membrane. Lysozyme and bovine serum albumin (BSA) were used as organic pollutants and Cu 2+ , Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ were used as metal components in this study. As one of the metal ions (Cu 2+ , Pb 2+ or Cd 2+ ) and one of the proteins (lysozyme or BSA) are present in the solution, the metal removal rate is improved due to the interaction of metal ions with protein, to form a metal-protein complex. At the same time, the lysozyme rejection efficiency decreases, but the BSA rejection efficiency increases. For the mixture consisting of one metal ion and two proteins, the metal removal rate is higher than that for the case (one metal ion + lysozyme), but lower than that for the case (one metal ion + BSA). Meanwhile, the protein retention efficiency decreases, since the interaction between lysozyme and BSA disturbs the retention efficiency of each protein. As three metal ions and two proteins are present in the solution, the ion removal efficiency is significantly improved, and the protein retention efficiency is increased as well, which is due to the fact that there are much more chances for forming metal-protein complexes.

Abstract Isothermal gelation processes for relatively low concentration PAN/DMSO/H 2 O solutions are studied by rheology. Winter–Chambon criterion is unitedly used to investigate the rheological kinetics and the structural and mechanical characteristics of the resulted gels are evaluated. It is found that during the isothermal gelation procedure, two coincident points appear sequentially, where loss tangent tan δ is independent of frequency. The occurrence of two coincident points suggests that the critical gel forms first, then it evolves into the second self-similar structure, and the average distance between crosslinks of network becomes shorter. The results also show that decreasing temperature, increase of PAN concentration or H 2 O content will lead to faster gelation kinetics and formation of more elastic and compact critical gel and the second self-similar structure. At the same temperature, the later formed second self-similar structure is always more elastic and compact than the critical gel, and the corresponding gel stiffness is stronger.

An organic–inorganic composite ion exchanger of polyantimonic acid-polyacrylonitrile (PAA–PAN) was synthesized to remove strontium(II) from radioactive waste water. Ion exchange behavior of the composite toward strontium(II) were investigated and the results indicated that the composite presents excellent performance in 0.1 mol L −1 nitric acid. The maximum uptake capacity of strontium(II) can reach up to 49 mg g −1 on composite. Adsorption thermodynamic parameters showed that the ion exchange was endothermic and spontaneous reaction and equilibrium adsorption data fit well with the Langmuir adsorption isotherms. In addition, PAA–PAN beads were found to have chemical and adsorption stability under irradiation and acidic media.

A novel 3D filtration medium for airborne particles was prepared using an electrospinning technique, wherein PVA and PAN were used as a reinforcing agent and a bulk material for the filtration membrane, respectively. In order to improve the filtration efficiency and mechanical property of the membrane, the membrane was modified by a certain concentration mixture of GA, acetone and acetic acid, which could reduce the number of hydroxyl groups, promote its stability and increase the compactness via a bond between fibers. Simultaneously, the mechanical property of the membrane was measured by a tensile tester, and the results demonstrated that the maximum strain and toughness reached 144.58% and 5.33 J g−1, respectively. After that, the membrane was used as an air purification material for testing air particles content and the particles intercept principle has been discussed. The filtration performance of the membrane demonstrated that the membrane possessed excellent removing efficiency for air suspension with lower pressure drop compared with commercial masks under the same testing conditions. The filtration efficiency for the particles, sized 0.3 to 7 μm, was found to be approximately 99%. Furthermore, we also developed an effective avenue to fabricate a filtration medium based on the a steel wire for applications in ultra condition.

We report a facile and low-cost approach for fabrication of large-scale surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) active substrates composed of Ag-nanoplates (Ag-NPs) decorated polyacrylonitrile nanopillar (denoted as Ag-NPs@PAN-nanopillar) arrays, via a consecutive process of molding PAN-nanopillar arrays, sputtering Au-nanoparticles onto the PAN-nanopillar arrays as a conducting layer, and decorating the PAN-nanopillars with Ag-nanoplates. The Ag-nanoplate distribution density on the PAN-nanopillars can be tailored by tuning the concentration of citric acid and the Ag-deposition duration, and high SERS sensitivity can thus be achieved by optimizing the density of Ag-nanoplates. The adjacent Ag-nanoplates induced “hot spots” are densely and uniformly distributed in the three dimensional (3D) space around the PAN-nanopillar arrays, and thus Ag-NPs@PAN-nanopillar arrays generated sensitive and homogenous SERS signals when using rhodamine 6G as a probed molecule. Using the Ag-NPs@PAN-nanopillar arrays as SERS substrates, 10−7 M methyl parathion (organophosphorus insecticide) and 10−6 M PCB-77 (one congener of polychlorinated biphenyls belonging to persistent organic pollutants) are identified. Therefore the SERS-active substrates have potential in SERS-based rapid detection of environmental organic pollutants.

This study aimed to synthesize a novel nanofiber adsorbent based on metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), ZIF-94-PAN, by incorporating ZIF-94 into polyacrylonitrile (PAN) through electrospinning. The investigation of the adsorption characteristics of ZIF-94-PAN for cobalt ions was undertaken, yielding findings that suggest an optimum ZIF-94 loading content within the ZIF-94-PAN composite of 8%. The adsorption experiments revealed that, under pH 8.3 and 298 K, ZIF-94-PAN-8% attained cobalt ion equilibrium adsorption (139.08 mg/g). Additionally, the adsorption kinetics of cobalt ions exhibited conformity with the pseudo-second-order model, whereas adherence to the Freundlich isotherm model indicated a non-homogeneous, endothermic process. XPS analysis unveiled that the adsorption mechanism was characterized by the coordination of nitrogen and oxygen atoms within ZIF-94-PAN with cobalt ions. This study effectively addressed the challenges of separating and recovering MOFs adsorbents by fabricating them as nanofibers. The remarkable adsorption performance and stability of the ZIF-94-PAN nanofibers highlight their potential for removing cobalt-contaminated wastewater.
