Antimony sulfide (Sb 2 S 3 ) has emerged as a promising absorber material for thin-film solar cells due to its excellent light absorption properties. However, its inherent quasi-one-dimensional crystal structure and complex defect landscape severely limit device V OC and J SC . In this study, lead-doped Sb 2 S 3 was achieved through an ion exchange method, and Sb 2 S 3 :Pb thin films were subsequently prepared via vapor transport deposition(VTD). The incorporation of Pb doping promoted preferential [hk1] orientation growth, facilitating vertical carrier transport channels across the substrate. Concurrently, it significantly reduced the Urbach energy, enhanced carrier concentration, and effectively suppressed non-radiative recombination through the formation of shallow-level Pb Sb defects alongside reduced defect density of deep-levlel Sb i . The optimized device achieved V OC of 709 mV, J SC of 12.99 mA/cm 2 , and a power conversion efficiency of 5.22%, establishing a new record efficiency for Sb 2 S 3 solar cells fabricated by VTD. This work provides an effective strategy for improving Sb 2 S 3 thin-film quality through cation doping and advances its development in photovoltaic applications.

Fluorine-doped graphene supported PbO (F-rGO/PbO) composite was prepared through a facile water bath method to study an improvement strategy for its catalytic performance in thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP). The characterization results showed that the PbO with the size of 20 ∼ 30 nm are highly dispersed on the surface of F-doped graphene (F-rGO). Compared with other samples, the F-rGO/PbO exhibited superior catalytic performance, as 3 wt% of catalyst added in AP, the peak temperature for HTD reduced by 124°C, and the peak temperature for LTD increased by 8°C. The released apparent specific heat of the thermal decomposition of AP catalyzed by F-rGO/PbO (3603.7 J/g) is five times of that of pure AP (603.5 J/g). The doping of F atoms in graphene increased BET surface areas of the F-rGO carrier and enhanced the content of hydroxyl groups on the surface of graphene, which improved the thermal decomposition rate of AP. While the highly dispersed PbO NPs further increased BET surface areas of F-rGO/PbO to provide more active sites during the thermal decomposition of AP.

Novel Sn-Pb hybrid nanoparticle decorated mesoporous carbon (MPC) was successfully prepared on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) and used for the anodic stripping measurements of Cd(II) via square wave Voltammetry. In the presence of MPC, the properties of Sn-Pb were dramatically improved including the ability of electron transfer, particle size and hydrophilicity, which played a significant role in achieving more preferable analytical performances of Cd(II) with Sn-Pb based sensor. After all the experimental parameters involved were carefully optimized, the proposed Sn-Pb/MPC based sensor was applied to the stripping determination of Cd(II), showing the best electrochemical behaviors by comparison with Sn, Pb and Sn-Pb modified electrodes. The synergic effect between Sn-Pb and MPC was believed to be the major factor leading to such improved electrochemical properties of Sn-Pb/MPC based sensor for Cd(II) analysis. In the concentration range of 0–140 μg L−1, the linear analytical curve for Cd(II) was achieved with correlation coefficient and detection limit calculated to be 0.9996 and 0.36 μg L−1 (S/N = 3), respectively. By using the standard addition method, Cd(II) ion in river samples was successfully determined with satisfactory recoveries higher than 100%. These results suggest that the proposed method can be applied as a simple, efficient alternative to monitor the heavy metals in water samples, compared with ICP based techniques.

Electrostrictive ceramics are crucial for high-precision actuators due to their low hysteresis, fast response, and low heat dissipation. In this work, Nd 3+ was strategically employed to optimize the electrostrictive properties of x Nd-doped Pb(Ni 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 -PbZrO 3 -PbTiO 3 (PNN-PZ-PT) ceramics. A phase transition from the morphotropic phase boundary to a cubic structure, accompanied by enhanced dielectric relaxor behavior was observed with increasing Nd content, which can be attributed to the disruption of long-range ordered ferroelectric domains caused by aliovalent Nd doping-induced local structural heterogeneities—thereby reducing strain hysteresis and enabling improved electrostrictive response. Notably, outstanding electrostrictive strain of 0.105% and high electrostrictive coefficient M 33 = 10.5 × 10 −16 m 2 /V 2 were obtained under a 10 kV/cm for the 3%Nd-doped PNN-PZ-PT ceramic, superior to other relaxor ferroelectric ceramics. Additionally, this composition exhibits outstanding cycling reliability with only 5% strain degradation over 10 6 electrical cycles, positioning it as a promising candidate for precision micro-actuators applications requiring ultra-stable, high-efficiency electromechanical responses.

Lead (Pb) bioaccumulation in aquatic ecosystems poses significant threats to environmental health and human safety. To address the urgent need for efficient and operationally simple adsorbents for aqueous Pb(II) removal, this study presents the development of novel biomass adsorbents, specifically xanthate-modified Auricularia auricula (XAAS), Pleurotus ostreatus (XPOS) and Flammulina velutipes (XFVS), for the rapid and selective removal of Pb(II) ions from aqueous solutions. These materials were synthesized via a straightforward xanthate modification followed by lyophilization, optimizing conditions to balance cost-effectiveness and adsorption performance. Structural characterization revealed a three-dimensional macroporous architecture in all adsorbents, enabling rapid solid-liquid separation through simple filtration. Kinetic studies revealed that Pb(II) removal by XAAS, XPOS and XFVS was predominantly chemisorption-driven, reaching equilibrium within 15 min. Langmuir isotherm modeling determined maximum adsorption capacities of 190.48, 161.03 and 170.94 mg/g, respectively, showing minimal temperature dependence. Competitive adsorption experiments established Pb(II) selectivity following the inhibition sequence: Cr(III) > Cu(II) > Cd(II) > Tl(I). Mechanistic studies identified ion exchange, surface complexation and microprecipitation as primary removal pathways. Notably, xanthate hydrolysis within the adsorbent matrices facilitated the formation of PbS and Pb 3 (CO 3 ) 2 (OH) 2 nanoparticles. In simulated Pb(II)-contaminated Pearl River water, the adsorbents achieved >86% removal at 34.11 mg/L Pb(II) and complete elimination (100%) at trace levels (0.41 mg/L). These fungal-derived adsorbents exhibited comparable structural properties and Pb(II) removal performance. Their combination of high adsorption capacity, rapid kinetics, selectivity and simple synthesis underscores strong potential for practical remediation of heavy-metal-polluted surface waters.

CaO doped 0.5Na 0 . 5 Bi 0 . 5 TiO 3 (NBT)-0.5SrTiO 3 (ST) were prepared by a traditional solid-reaction method under various sintering temperatures. X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron scanning microscopy (SEM), and electrical measurements were employed to check the phases, microstructures, and energy storage properties. The doping of CaO can deeply affect the relaxation nature of NBT-ST ceramics. So the energy storage performance could be modified. Specially, sample with 1 at.% CaO exhibits a high energy storage density of 1.51 J/cm 3 . Any further details can be found within this study.

Ferroelectric ceramic with a large electrocaloric ( EC ) effect at a very low electric field is very attractive in the next solid state refrigeration technology. In this work, two Pb(Sc 0.25 In 0.25 Nb 0.25 Ta 0.25 )O 3 (PSINT) medium-entropy ceramics were successfully synthesized by a spark plasma sintering (SPS) technology, including one-step-SPS processed and two-step-SPS processed samples. A large EC effect (△ T ∼ 0.85 K) with a high EC strength (△ T /△ E ∼ 0.021 K cm/kV) around room temperature are obtained at a very low electric field (∼40 kV/cm) in the two-step-SPS processed sample. Moreover, the working temperature range is very broad (∼120 K), which can be responsible for the high relaxation degree of the dielectric peak. It can be believed that the PSINT medium-entropy ceramics can be promising candidates for application in the next-generation EC cooling devices.

Lead (Pb), with low average discharge plateau, large volumetric capacity, low cost (2000USD/MT) and high recycling rate (99%), is deemed as an optimal anode for sodium-ionbatteries/capacitors. However, several issues including short cycling life and poor ratecapability, stemming from amazing volume expansion (over 486%) and insulatingintermediates of Pb44- based “Zintl phases” during the sodiation, hinder the wide use of Pb.Herein, amorphous carbon coated discrete Pb nanocrystals (Pb@C) with highly porousstructure are prepared by sintering a compacted mixture composed of polyvinylpyrrolidone and lead citrate. This Pb@C nanocomposite achieves high levels of Na+storage with the robust rate capability and cycling stability. Furthermore, a sodium-ioncapacitor based on this Pb@C anode possesses the merits of high energy/power outputsand durable cycling life (> 12,000 cycles). The principal benefit arises from Pb-embeddedporous carbon structure with the functions of the increased electron connectivity, buffered2volume expansion and shortened Na+ diffusion path/barrier as confirmed by the theoreticalsimulations and in-situ/ex-situ structural analyses. Keywords: Sodium-ion capacitor; Pb anode; Alloying reaction; Na+ storage mechanism Composite

The conversion of biomass-derived levulinic acid (LA) to γ-valerolactone (GVL) offers a sustainable route for chemical production. Achieving efficient and selective electrocatalytic hydrogenation in aqueous media remains challenging due to limited supply of active hydrogen (H*) and selectivity–efficiency trade-off. Herein, we propose an electrochemical reconstruction strategy to generate Pb/PbO nanosheet electrocatalysts that can enable efficient aqueous-phase electrocatalytic hydrogenation of LA to GVL at room temperature, achieving a Faradaic efficiency of 59.2% and a yield rate of 22.2 mg h −1 cm −2 at –1.1 V vs. RHE, outperforming most previously reported aqueous LA-to-GVL systems. In-situ experiments reveal that the superior performance resulted from the synergy of Pb/PbO heterostructures and oxygen vacancies: heterostructures facilitated efficient electron transfer, oxygen vacancies optimized LA adsorption and H* activation, and a high surface area exposed additional active sites. Integration of a flow electrolyzer with an extraction–distillation unit provided continuous LA conversion and high-purity GVL recovery, demonstrating practical feasibility. This work provides a rational design of efficient electrocatalysts for hydrogenation of biomass-derived platform molecules.

Grape vine shoots were utilized as the biomass feedstock and pyrolyzed under temperatures ranging in 300°C–600°C with nitrogen atmosphere to produce biochars. The surface properties of the as-obtained biochars were characterized, followed with the careful investigation of the adsorption of lead and cadmium removal in aqueous environments. All as-prepared biochars had weak alkali characteristics and large amount of mineral species, which can greatly improve the adsorption performance. Outstanding storing capacities of 250.81, 327.31, 377.36 mg g –1 for Cd 2+ and 156.12, 237.25, 258.86 mg g –1 for Pb 2+ were exhibited by biochar pyrolyzed under 300°C, 450°C and 600°C, respectively. The adsorption equilibrium could be reached about 7 h and the suitable solution pH should be above 3. Both Langmuir and Freundlich models fitted the data well and precipitation was found to be the dominant mechanism for the adsorption of both metals. Overall, grape vine shoots are confirmed to be a promising feedstock to produce biochar sorbents of heavy metals in wastewater with excellent performance, economic cost, and easy process.

This study aimed to investigate the combined ecotoxicological effects of Cd, Pb, Zn, Hg and regulation mechanisms in Solanum nigrum L. In this work, the co-exposure of these four heavy metals hindered the transformation of Cd, Zn, and Hg (except Pb) from available to non-available chemical forms. Individual Cd, Pb, Zn and Hg induced the oxidative damages to S. nigrum L., while their combination further enhanced this ecological toxicity. By internal regulation, the ecological toxicity of metals to S. nigrum L. could be alleviated to a certain extent. Specifically, S. nigrum L. was a hyperaccumulator of Cd with BCF >1. Moreover, since BCFroot of Pb, Zn and Hg were all greater than BCFshoot, S. nigrum L. could accumulate Pb, Hg and Zn mainly in plant roots, which was beneficial for the detoxification of plants. Meanwhile, the immobilization by cell wall (the proportions of Cd, Pb, Zn and Hg in the cell wall were 54.46–84.92%, 38.33–49.25%, 48.38–56.19% and 45.97–63.47% in low metal concentration treatments) and the sequestration in vacuole (the proportions of Cd, Pb, Zn, and Hg in the soluble fractions are 50.99–59.00%, 41.05–45.46%, 37.54–61.04% and 33.47–61.35% in high metal concentration treatments) also act as important detoxification pathways. The external regulation was mainly the changes of soil microbial communities influenced by plants. Specifically, the richness and diversity of bacteria in rhizosphere soil were increased, and roots of S. nigrum L. recruited some potentially beneficial microbials. This study provided a theoretical basis and guidance for S. nigrum L. as a phytoremediation plant under combined heavy metal pollution.

It is a challenging task to remove Pb(II) ions efficiently from wastewater containing high concentrations of hardness ions. In this study, a novel hybrid polymer (DVP) for selective adsorption of Pb(II) ions was successfully prepared via photopolymerization of vinyl-POSS and dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA). The chemical structure and composition of DVP were characterized by FTIR, XPS, SEM, TEM, XRD and TGA techniques. DVP exhibited high efficiency in removing Pb(II) from aqueous solutions with a maximum adsorption capacity of 349.5 mg g −1 at pH 4, exceeding lots of adsorbents reported in the literature. The adsorption performance of Pb(II) by DVP was found to fit the Freundlich isotherm well and its kinetics followed the Elovich model. Moreover, DVP showed selective adsorption of Pb(II) in the presence of high concentrations of Ca(II) and Mg(II) ions and could reduce Pb(II) in real lake water to 25 ppb at a DVP dose of 1 g L −1 . Moreover, the adsorption process of DVP was endothermic in nature. The adsorption mechanism demonstrated that Pb(II) ions can be chelated with the thioether and carboxyl groups of DVP simultaneously, which was confirmed by spectroscopic analysis and DFT calculations. Good reusability in continuous fixed-bed column experiments suggested that DVP was an ideal candidate for the selective removal of Pb(II) ions from contaminated aquatic systems.
