Sandwich-like MoO3/ZnCo2O4 QDs@C@rGO/MoO3 hybrid nanosheets as high-performance anode for lithium-ion batteries

Wenfei Liang,Linping Zhong,Lijun Quan,Xuejia Wang,Mengjiao Liu,Xin Lai,Jian Bi,Daojiang Gao,Xiaohong Liu,Wei Zhang,Yan Zhao

Transition metal oxides (TMOs) based compounds are recognized as high-energy anodes in next-generation lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to their extremely high theoretical capacity. However, the lower intrinsic conductivity , fast fading cyclic stability and dramatic volume expansion during discharge/charge processes greatly hinder the practical application of TMOs as anodes in LIBs. In this study, we have designed and constructed MoO 3 /ZnCo 2 O 4 QDs@C@rGO/MoO 3 (denoted as GMZCO) sandwich-structured hybrid nanocomposites via an effective route, and have proposed the formation mechanism of this unique nanostructured composite on the basis of the systematic results of the microstructures. Due to the unique sandwich structure and the synergistic enhancement effect of the ZnCo 2 O 4 QDs , α-MoO 3 and rGO, the as-constructed GMZCO exhibits the superior electrochemical performances when used as anode for LIBs. The obtained GMZCO can maintain high capacity of 1281 mAh g −1 at 0.2 A g −1 after 300 cycles, and can deliver as high as specific capacity of 913 mAh g −1 at 1 A g −1 after 500 cycles, revealing the higher capacity and excellent cyclic stability. What deserves to be mentioned most is that GMZCO can keep a capacity of 541 mAh g −1 after 1400 cycles even at higher current density of 3 A g −1 , having outstanding rate capability. This work paves a novel approach for design TMOs with unique microstructures as a promising anode for the high-performances LIBs.

Enhancing the efficiency of green perovskite-QDs-based light-emitting devices by controlling interfacial defects with diamine molecules

Shuai Zhang,Hongli Liu,Xianggao Li,Shirong Wang

Inorganic perovskite quantum dots (QDs) have emerged as promising materials for light-emitting devices by merits of their high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY), narrow full width at half-maximum and tunable emission spectrum. However, fluorescence quenching and trap-mediated nonradiative recombination between hole transport layer (HTL) and QD films are prejudicial to the performance of perovskite-QDs-based light-emitting devices (QLEDs). Here, HTL was modified with diamine molecules (1,4-butanediamine (4-DA), 1,8-octyldiamine (8-DA) and 1,11-aminoundecylamine (11-DA)) through a simple self-assembly method. QD films based on modified poly[ N , N ′-bis(4-butylphenyl)- N , N ′-bis(phenyl)-benzidine] (Poly-TPD) exhibited higher PL intensity and lower fluorescence quenching properties. Meanwhile, diamine molecules do favor to the flatness of Poly-TPD film and contribute to the smoothness of QD films. Moreover, the exciton quenching and the density of defects at the interface between HTL and QD films were effectively reduced. Particularly, QLEDs based on HTL modified with 8-DA was endowed with a maximum luminance of 78634 cd/m 2 , a peak current efficiency of 30.77 cd/A, a maximum external quantum efficiency of 8.90% and T 50 of 16.8 min when the initial brightness is about 1000 cd/m 2 .

Colorimetric detection of urine glucose using a C/CdTe QDs–GOx aerogel based on a microfluidic assay sensor

Tao Hu,Kangkai Xu,Shanhu Qiu,Yu Han,Juan Chen,Jian Xu,Ke Chen,Zilin Sun,Hong Yi,Zhonghua Ni

A sensitive fluorescent microfluidic sensor based on carbon quantum dots (CQDs), cadmium telluride quantum dots (CdTe QDs) aerogel and glucose oxidase (GOx) for urinal glucose detection was fabricated via a simple method. CQDs, emitting green fluorescence (emission peak at 520 nm) and the CdTe QDs, emitting red fluorescence (emission peak at 620 nm) under 365 nm ultraviolet irradiation, were synthesized. The as-prepared CQDs, CdTe QDs and GOx (C/CdTe QD-GOx) were mixed in a certain ratio and were then introduced into the microfluidic chip to construct a three-dimensional porous aerogel sensor after freeze-drying. A ratiometric fluorescence response was realized through the quenching of the red fluorescence by H2O2 produced from the glucose/GOx reaction, while the green fluorescence intensity stays constant. A small change in the ratio of the two fluorescence intensities led to a clear change in the fluorescent colour of the sensor, which can be easily observed under a UV lamp. The microsensor displayed a serial colour change from red to green with the changes in glucose concentration. The intensity ratio between the red fluorescence and green fluorescence (R/G value) indicates the glucose concentration. In our experiments, the optimal concentration ratio of CdTe QDs and CQDs was 0.5 : 1, and the optimal response time was 5 min. The detection range of glucose concentration was from 0 mM to 13 mM, and the detection limit was 0.223 mM. We also found that this glucose sensor has excellent selectivity, specificity and stability. The as-prepared microsensor can be stably stored for 30 days under −20 °C. Such a C/CdTe QD-GOx aerogel based microfluidic assay sensor provides a new approach towards the optical and quantitative detection of glucose, which enables daily urine glucose monitoring for the diabetic patients in a convenient way.

Yan Dan,He Yu,Ge Yili,Song Gongwu

A novel fluorescence method for sensitive and selective detection of phosphate was developed based on near infrared emission Ag 2 S QDs/ Metal − Organic Shell Composite via the deposition of metal-organic (zinc-nitrogen) coordination shell around Ag 2 S QDs . Under optimal conditions described, the fluorescence intensity of the composite was decreased at 685 nm in the presence of phosphate, which was linearly related to the concentration of phosphate in the range of 0. 7 to 4.2 μM and 11.2 to 88.2 μM with the relative correlation coefficient of R 2  = 0.998 and 0.987 respectively and detection limit as low as 6 nM. In addition, the proposed method was successfully utilized in serum samples, tap water and Yangtze River water samples with the recoveries ranged from 94.76 to 100.86 %, which presaged more opportunities for application in related bioassay and water sample researches.

Efficient double-quenching of electrochemiluminescence from CdS:Eu QDs by hemin-graphene-Au nanorods ternary composite for ultrasensitive immunoassay

Liu Jing,Cui Meirong,Zhou Hong,Zhang Shusheng

A novel ternary composite of hemin-graphene-Au nanorods (H-RGO-Au NRs) with high electrocatalytic activity was synthesized by a simple method. And this ternary composite was firstly used in construction of electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensor due to its double-quenching effect of quantum dots (QDs). Based on the high electrocatalytic activity of ternary complexes for the reduction of H 2 O 2 which acted as the coreactant of QDs-based ECL, as a result, the ECL intensity of QDs decreased. Besides, due to the ECL resonance energy transfer (ECL-RET) strategy between the large amount of Au nanorods (Au NRs) on the ternary composite surface and the CdS:Eu QDs, the ECL intensity of QDs was further quenched. Based on the double-quenching effect, a novel ultrasensitive ECL immunoassay method for detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) which is used as a model biomarker analyte was proposed. The designed immunoassay method showed a linear range from 0.01 pg mL −1 to 1.0 ng mL −1 with a detection limit of 0.01 pg mL −1 . The method showing low detection limit, good stability and acceptable fabrication reproducibility, provided a new approach for ECL immunoassay sensing and significant prospect for practical application.

Detection of Four Early Tumor Biomarkers Using Micron-Sized Silica Microspheres Encoded With QDs (CQDs) for Tumor Early Screening

Xu Zhaobin,Wang Xinling,Li Wenyao,Yang Wenjie,Xu Na,Chen Yushi,Luo Shengnan,Ma Fang,Chen Huiping,Wang Can,Zhang Liguo

Detection of tumor biomarkers is critical for early cancer diagnosis and cancer therapeutic monitoring, but traditional methods often lack sufficient sensitivity and specificity, especially at low biomarker concentrations. To address this challenge, in this study a multiplex detection platform based on core–shell quantum dot-encoded silica microspheres was developed for highly sensitive, simultaneous detection of multiple tumor biomarkers in a single assay. The core–shell silica architecture provides a high surface area for bioconjugation, while embedded quantum dots (QDs) offer strong fluorescence, making them ideal labels. Carbon quantum dots (CQDs), which have low toxicity, superior biocompatibility, and high photostability, were used as reporter molecules instead of organic dyes. This choice improved detection sensitivity and reduced the detection system’s environmental toxicity relative to traditional dye-based assays. After optimizing QD–silica conjugation and immunoassay conditions, the platform achieved highly sensitive multiplex detection of four tumor biomarkers (AFP, CEA, CA125, CA19-9) commonly used in early cancer screening. Results demonstrated specific detection of all four targets within a short time frame, with excellent stability and reproducibility. By enhancing sensitivity for these biomarkers and reducing assay toxicity while improving stability, this platform shows significant potential to greatly improve early cancer screening and cancer therapeutic monitoring in clinical practice.

1T1M neuromorphic infrared perception based on PbS-QDs decorated IGZO TFT and NbOx Mott Memristor with event-driven property

Yubin Yuan,Shujing Zhao,Qiang Wu,Zifan Li,Chuanyu Han,Xin Li,Long Hu,Mingchao Yang,Weihua Liu,Li Geng

Biological perception systems are renowned for their ability to process environmental stimuli with remarkable energy efficiency, primarily through spike-based communication and event-driven mechanisms. Inspired by these, in this paper, we propose an infrared artificial neuromorphic perception neuron (IR-ANPN) designed to detect infrared (IR) light, enabling sensory perception beyond the visible spectrum. The IR-ANPN is designed based on a one-transistor-one-memristor (1T1M) architecture, which consists of a PbS quantum dots-decorated Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide (IGZO) thin film transistor (PbS-QDs/IGZO TFT) and an NbO x Mott memristor. The PbS-QDs/IGZO TFT is responsible for detecting infrared light stimuli, while the NbO x Mott memristor converts these stimuli into neuromorphic spikes. The IR-ANPN can operate in an event-driven mode, which means it transmits spikes only when exposed to IR light, ensuring energy efficiency by remaining dormant in the absence of relevant stimuli. The paper also showcases the potential of the IR-ANPN by constructing a neuromorphic infrared detection array. Combined with a spiking neural network (SNN), the system achieves 92 % recognition accuracy on the MNIST dataset by encoding pixel intensity as spiking frequency. The IR-ANPN architecture enhances sensory capabilities through a neuromorphic approach, enabling the detection of non-visible wavelengths with remarkable energy efficiency and laying the foundation for future intelligent sensing technologies.

A novel signal amplified electrochemiluminescence biosensor based on MIL-53(Al)@CdS QDs and SiO2@AuNPs for trichlorfon detection

Defen Feng,Fucun Wei,Yeyu Wu,Xuecai Tan,Fang Li,Yongkuai Lu,Gaochao Fan,Heyou Han

An ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor was developed based on MIL-53(Al)@CdS QDs and SiO2@AuNPs for trichlorfon detection. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) were used as a loading platform that provided a large surface area to load targets and modified materials onto the electrode. At the same time, SiO2@AuNPs loaded plenty of AuNPs which effectively increased the ECL resonance energy transfer between the CdS QDs, so that the ECL signal was strongly quenched and resulted in an amplified response. In the range of 10−11–10−4 M, the ECL response showed a linear relationship with the concentration (logarithm) of trichlorfon, and the detection limit was 5.1 × 10−12 M (S/N = 3). When the biosensor was applied to detect trichlorfon in lettuce, broccoli, cucumber, and chives, the recoveries obtained from the spiked samples were 97%–105%, 102%–104%, 100%–104%, and 98%–104%, respectively. Thus, this novel ECL biosensor has potential applications for the analysis of trichlorfon in food samples.

Precipitating tunable-emission CsPb(Cl/Br)3 QDs in boro-germanate glass for wide-color-gamut liquid crystal displays

Xiaoliang Pang,Xuejie Zhang,Bingfu Lei,Haoran Zhang

Embedding CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) perovskites QDs in inorganic glass matrix via in-situ crystallization has been regarded as a feasible strategy to improve their stability against water, heat, and light irradiation. However, the tunable-emission range of these CsPbX3-nanocrystals-embedded glasses is still narrow, insufficient to cover a wide color gamut. Herein, a simple synthetic method was developed in this study to obtain the tunable-emission CsPb(Cl/Br)3 quantum dots (QDs) in boro-germanate glass (CsPb(Cl/Br)3 QDs@glass) by controlling the molar ratio of PbBr2/PbCl2. With the increase of the PbBr2 concentration from 1.6 to 3.2 mol%, the emission wavelength of CsPb(Cl/Br)3 QDs@glasses can be shifted from 448 to 485 nm, and the corresponding photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) increases from 0.61 to 24.43%. In addition, the CsPb(Cl/Br)3 QDs@glass exhibits impressing promotion of thermal stability, photostability, and water resistance due to the excellent protective function of the glass matrix. As a proof-of-concept experiment, a LED device was fabricated by employing the optimal CsPb(Cl/Br)3 QDs@glass with a commercial 375 nm UV chip, yielding an intense cyan light. All the results indicate that the investigated CsPb(Cl/Br)3 QDs@glasses may find promising applications as color convertors in wide-color-gamut liquid crystal displays (LCDs).

Enhanced photodynamic therapy of porphyrin grafted Zn–Ag–In–S QDs/PMAO nanoparticles against melanoma cells and E. coli

Sheng Yang,Qing Danni,Zhang Peng,Sun Yixin,Zhang Rong

Tetra-aminophenyl porphyrin (TAPP)-grafted Zn–Ag–In–S quantum dots (ZAIS QDs)/poly(maleic anhydride- alt -1-octadecene) (PMAO) nanoparticles were synthesized and their photoluminescence properties as well as photodynamic properties were studied. ZAIS QDs showed the brightest photoluminescence and highest quantum yield at an optimized Zn feeding molar ratio of 20%. Those TAPP-grafted nanoparticles (i.e., ZAIS/PMAO- g -TAPP) were able to produce 1 O 2 in aqueous solution under light irradiation as indicated by the 1 O 2 indicator, 9,10-anthracenediyl-bis(methylene) dimalonic acid (ADMA). ZAIS/PMAO- g -TAPP nanoparticles also demonstrate good biocompatibility and low dark toxicity even at a concentration as high as 2.8 mg·mL −1 , whith can be applied as both a fluorescence probe and a photodynamic therapy (PDT) agent. The PDT treatment showed that the viability of melanoma A2058 cells was less than 10% after treatment with the 420 nm light irradiation for 15 min at a photosensitizer concentration of 1.7 mg·mL −1 . During the PDT treatment with Escherichia coli , the survival rate of the bacteria decreased by −95% after light irradiation at the same concentration. Such dual-functional ZAIS/PMAO- g -TAPP nanoparticles researched in this study demonstrate promising potential for fluorescence labeling as well as effective PDT treatment against cancer cells and bacteria.

Oxygen-supplementing mesoporous polydopamine nanosponges with WS2 QDs-embedded for CT/MSOT/MR imaging and thermoradiotherapy of hypoxic cancer

Yidan Wang,Shaoze Song,Tong Lu,Yu Cheng,Yilin Song,Siyu Wang,Fengping Tan,Jiao Li,Nan Li

Multifunctional nanoplatforms with flexible architectures and tumor microenvironment response are highly anticipated within the field of thermoradiotherapy. Herein, the multifunctional nanoplatforms for thermoradiotherapy have been successfully constructed by the embedding of tungsten disulfide quantum dots (WS 2 QDs) into mesoporous polydopamine nanosponges (MPDA NSs), followed by integration with manganese dioxide (MnO 2 ). MPDA-WS 2 @MnO 2 , the resultant nanoplatforms, exhibit radiosensitization enhanced behavior and a capacity for responsive oxygen self-supplementation. The ingenious mesoporous structure of MPDA NSs serves as reservoir for the assembly of WS 2 QDs to form MPDA-WS 2 nanoparticles (NPs), in which WS 2 QDs provide the radiation enhancement effect, whereas the MPDA NSs framework endows the MPDA-WS 2 @MnO 2 with an excellent photothermal capability. Additionally, the integration of the MnO 2 component works to decompose the tumor-overexpressed H 2 O 2 and alleviate tumor hypoxia subsequently, which has been demonstrated to enhance radiotherapy performance considerably. Meanwhile, the prepared MPDA-WS 2 @MnO 2 nanoplatforms have been evaluated as trimodality contrast agents for computed tomography (CT), multispectral optoacoustic tomography (MSOT), and tumor microenvironment-responsive T 1 -weighted magnetic resonance (MR) imaging that have the potential for real-time guidance and monitoring during cancer therapy. More importantly, when subjected to near infrared (NIR) laser irradiation and X-ray exposure, the tumor is found to be inhibited significantly through the process of combined thermoradiotherapy. The design concepts of embedding WS 2 QDs into MPDA NSs and oxygen self-supplementing hold great potential for multimodal imaging-guided thermoradiotherapy of hypoxic cancer.

Phototheranostic LPP-QDs-IR-820 Nanocomposites for Specific NIR-II Imaging of Lymphatic and Photothermal Therapy of Cervical Tumors

Lijun Zhu,Zhong Du,Jiabao Xiong,Hui Li,Chi Zhang,Xueliang Zhang,Nuernisha Alifu,Biao Dong

Precise theranostics of tumors is intricately linked to the early detection and monitoring of lymph nodes (LN) and metastases, making the targeted localization of LNs essential for tumor identification. However, designing LN-targeting probes remains a significant challenge due to issues such as lymphatic uptake, biocompatibility, and fluorescence stability. To address these challenges, near-infrared II (NIR-II) fluorescence probes are developed through meticulous analysis of LN physiological structure and passive targeting strategy for LN detection and tumor therapy. An LPP-QDs-IR-820 nanocomposite (NCs) is engineered, comprising the IR-820 molecules and ultrabright PbS@CdS quantum dots (QDs), which are encapsulated within a liposome-SH-mPEG 2000 polymer matrix. These NCs demonstrates remarkable lymphatic enrichment, facilitating real-time tracking of LN via electrostatic repulsion and extracellular matrix effects. Importantly, the NCs exhibit negligible in vivo toxicity and high biocompatibility. The intense NIR-II fluorescence emissions of IR-820 and PbS@CdS QDs confer upon the NCs a high NIR-II fluorescence quantum yield (6%). The cervical tumors and their deep microvessels are clearly observed via NIR-II fluorescence imaging. Moreover, the photothermal properties of IR-820 enable the NCs to achieve a photothermal conversion efficiency of 36.56%, leading to effective photothermal therapy in cervical tumor mice.
