A series of transparent (1- y )La 2 O 3 –Ga 2 O 3 - y Sm 2 O 3 - x Eu 2 O 3 (where x = 0, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, 0.10, 0.12, 0.14, and y = 0, 0.04) were successfully synthesized using a containerless solidification process. Co-doping with Sm 3+ and Eu 3+ enhanced the energy absorption of Eu 3+ , notably improving the characteristic emission peak 5 D 0 - 7 F 2 of Eu 3+ . The peak emission intensity for y = 0.04 was observed at x = 0.08, attributable to the concentration quenching of Eu 3+ ions. As the concentration of Eu 3+ increased, the energy transfer effect on emission intensity diminished. Attributed to the energy transfer between Sm 3+ and Eu 3+ , Sm 3+ may primarily serve as the sensitizer, and Eu 3+ as the activator. According to the Dexter theory, which suggests that the interaction between activator ions and their adjacent ions is the primary mechanism of energy transfer and quenching among Eu 3+ ions and adjacent ions, an increase in Eu 3+ concentration leads to a decrease in the distance between Eu 3+ and adjacent ions, strengthening their interaction, and potentially inducing concentration quenching. Furthermore, with an increase in Eu 3+ concentration, the CIE chromaticity coordinates for the samples co-doped with Sm 3+ and Eu 3+ shifted significantly, enhancing the color purity of the emitted light and bringing it closer to the NTSC color standard coordinates (0.67, 0.33).

A series of x at% Sm3+ (x = 0.5, 1, 3, 5, 8, 10) doped ScTaO4 phosphors were prepared using a high-temperature solid-state method. The synthesized samples were structurally characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and the diffraction data were fitted to the full spectrum. At the same time, the electronic structure (energy band and state density) and differential charge of the ScTaO4 host material were calculated. The results showed that ScTaO4 has a direct band gap with a width of 4.14 eV. The effect of Sm3+ ion doping concentrations on the emission spectrum was further explored, and the 3 at% Sm3+ ion doping concentration was selected to have the best luminescence effect. In addition, we measured the temperature-changing spectrum of the 3 at% Sm3+ doped sample in the temperature range of 300–510 K to evaluate the thermal stability of its photoluminescence spectrum. At 390 K, the emission peak intensity at 610 nm of the 3 at% Sm3+ doped sample was still 79.55% of that at room temperature, showing excellent thermal stability. At the same time, we explored the temperature quenching mechanism of the material and fitted the variable temperature spectrum to obtain the activation energy (E
a) of the phosphor as 0.187 eV. The results show that Sm3+:ScTaO4 orange-red phosphor is expected to be used in the field of white LED lighting.Published by the Optical Society of Korea under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0) which permits unrestricted non-commercial use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.

A series of rare earth Sm 3 + -doped BaTiO 3 (BTO: x Sm 3 + ) samples were prepared in this work through high-temperature solid-state reaction. Their microstructure, photoluminescence, optical, and electrocatalytic OER properties were studied. As the concentration of Sm 3 + ions increased, there was a concentration dependent increase in luminescence intensity and optical bandgap. Rare earth doping significantly reduced the OER overpotential (from 509 mV to 316 mV), and under near-ultraviolet excitation at 408 nm, an orange-red emission ( λ e m = 595 nm) was observed. The results indicate that the prepared materials are suitable for the design and application of optoelectronic devices.

Near-ultraviolet-excitable red phosphors with high thermal stability are desirable for phosphor-converted LED applications, including potential plant-lighting applications. Herein, Sm3+- and Eu3+-activated Na3YB8O15phosphors were synthesized by a high-temperature solid-state reaction. Among the investigated compositions, the optimal activator contents were identified asx= 0.02 for Na3YB8O15:xSm3+andy= 0.70 for Na3YB8O15:yEu3+, with concentration quenching in both series mainly governed by dipole–dipole interactions. In the Sm3+/Eu3+co-doped phosphors, the emission color shifted from orange-red toward red as the Eu3+content increased. At 433 K, the Sm3+-doped, Eu3+-doped, and Sm3+/Eu3+co-doped samples retained 119.7%, 93.4%, and 102.3% of their room-temperature integrated emission intensities, respectively. The high thermal stability may be attributed to the structural characteristics of the host, its wide optical band gap, and the temperature-dependent redistribution of Stark and phonon-assisted emission components. A phosphor-converted LED fabricated using Na3YB8O15:0.02Sm3+,0.01Eu3+and a commercial 400–405 nm, 5 W near-UV LED chip produced multiband emission that partially overlapped with the absorption bands of both chlorophylls and the PRand PFRforms of phytochrome. These results suggest that Sm3+/Eu3+-activated Na3YB8O15is a promising thermally robust, spectrum-adjustable red phosphor for LED applications.

The utilization and residue of pesticides exist multifaceted non-restrictive effects on food safety and ecological protection. Exploitation of rapid and sensitive pesticide detection technology is imperative and will be helpful to better control the detriment of pesticides. Here, a novel flexible film has been prepared based on organic-inorganic composite materials (coumarin-3-carboxylic acid and GdF 3 :Sm 3+ ), which exhibits good optical performance and can well realize the timely and maneuverable detection for different pesticides. The spectra and luminescence properties of each composition in the composite have been analyzed systematically, and the coordinated fluorescence emission of Sm 3+ and coumarin-3-carboxylic acid is revealed at an excitation wavelength of 373 nm. Besides, the energy transfer mechanism is also researched by both experiment and theoretical calculation. The actual detection of different pesticides reveals differential fluorescence influence degree. Meanwhile, the flexible film still possesses sensitive recognition in the presence of micro concentration of pesticides. Results indicate that the flexible film with good optical performance can produce visual detection ability and provide a promising strategy for wider detection applications.

A novel layered perovskite tantalate phosphor Sr 3 LaTa 3 O 12 :Sm 3+ (SLTO:Sm 3+ ) with orange-red emission was obtained for the first time via the solid-phase synthetic method. The phase purity, surface morphology , element distribution and luminescent properties of the SLTO: x Sm 3+ ( x = 0.01 mol%–0.30 mol%) phosphors were investigated. Under 408 nm excitation, the optimum doped SLTO:0.10Sm 3+ phosphor emits orange-red light at 598 nm with the highest emission peak ( 4 G 5/2 → 6 H 7/2 ). The critical energy transfer distance is 1.687 nm. The prepared SLTO:0.10Sm 3+ phosphor has excellent thermal stability with temperature quenching temperature ( T 0.5 > 500 K) and high activation energy ( E a = 0.25 eV). Through calculation, the chromaticity coordinates of all samples are concentrated in the orange-red area, and the color purity reaches 99%. The fabricated white light-emitting diode (w-LED) has a good correlated color temperature (5132 K), a high R a (89), and the CIE chromaticity coordinates (0.340, 0.327). Consequently, the superiority of orange-red-emitting tantalate SLTO:Sm 3+ phosphors for w-LEDs is demonstrated.

Trivalent lanthanides (Ln3+) doped bismuth-based inorganic compounds have attracted considerable interest as promising candidates for next-generation inorganic luminescent materials. Here, a series of K0.3Bi0.7F2.4(KBF) nanocrystalline particles with controlled morphology have been synthesized through a low-temperature aqueous-phase precipitation method. Using KBF as the host matrix, Eu3+, Tb3+, Pr3+, Nd3+, Sm3+,and Dy3+ions are introduced to obtain K0.3Bi0.7F2.4:Ln3+(KBF:Ln) nanophosphors. The as-prepared KBF:Ln nanophosphors exhibit commendable photoluminescence properties, in which multicolor emissions in a single host lattice can be obtained by doping different Ln3+ions when excited by ultraviolet light. Moreover, the morphology and photoluminescence performance of these nanophosphors remain unchanged under different soaking times in water, showing good stability in a humid environment. The proposed simple and rapid synthesis route, low-cost and nontoxic bismuth-based host matrix, and tunable luminescent colors will lead the way to access these KBF:Ln nanophosphors for appealing applications such as white LEDs and optical thermometry.

The advancement of White light emitting diodes (WLEDs) drives the demand for efficient red-emitting phosphors with superior thermal stability. In this paper, a series of Sr 3 TaGa 3 Si 2 O 14 : Sm 3+ phosphors with excellent thermal properties were successfully synthesized via high-temperature solid-phase method. The crystal structure, luminescent properties and thermal stability of the samples were systematically investigated. Under 402 nm near-ultraviolet excitation, the fluorescence emission spectra of Sr 3 TaGa 3 Si 2 O 14 : Sm 3+ with different doping concentrations were obtained, and the optimal Sm 3+ doping concentration was found to be 0.03 mol. Co-doping with M ( M = Li + , Na + , and K + ) as charge compensation ions can improve the luminescent performance of Sr 3 TaGa 3 Si 2 O 14 : Sm 3+ . Furthermore, the luminescent intensity ( 4 G 5/2 → 6 H 7/2 ) of this phosphor at 420 K remains at 74.2 % of its initial temperatures (300 K), demonstrating excellently thermal stability. The temperature sensing characteristics based on Fluorescence Intensity Ratio (FIR) technique was investigated and the maximum absolute and maximum relative sensitivities of the Sr 3 TaGa 3 Si 2 O 14 : 3 mol% Sm 3+ samples were 6.52 % and 0.80 %, respectively. In addition, the quantum yield of Sr 3 TaGa 3 Si 2 O 14 : 3 mol% Sm 3+ , 3 mol% Na + was measured to be 44.0 %, and the WLEDs fabricated with it could emit bright white light with CIE chromaticity coordinates of (0.28, 0.33). Therefore, the synthesized phosphors have great potential for applications in optical temperature measurement and solid-state lighting.

A molybdate system by a low sintering temperature and excellent dielectric properties was selected. • The coupling mechanism of microwave dielectric properties regulated by doping gradient and sintering temperature is clarified. • We obtained materials with proper ε r , Q×f and near-zero τ f of resonance frequency. Molybdate-based ceramics have attracted considerable interest for microwave device applications owing to their intrinsically low sintering temperatures and compositionally tunable dielectric responses. The rapid advancement of emerging technologies — including 5 G/6 G communications, satellite Internet of Things, radar systems, intelligent vehicles, and wearable electronics — has imposed increasingly stringent demands on the performance of microwave dielectric ceramics. In this work, (La x Nd 1–2x Sm x ) 2 MoO 6 ceramics with La 3+ and Sm 3+ co-occupying the A‑site were synthesised via a conventional solid‑state reaction route. The effects of sintering temperature and doping concentration on the phase constitution, microstructure, and microwave dielectric properties were systematically investigated. The underlying mechanisms governing their evolution were elucidated through relative-density and chemical-bonding analyses. The microwave dielectric properties of the (La x Nd 1–2x Sm x ) 2 MoO 6 ceramics are summarised as follows: at T = 1000 °C, ε r = 7.91–13.56, Q×f = 10,280–27,940 GHz, and τ f = -15.69 to −6.20 ppm/°C; at T = 1100 °C, ε r = 6.91–7.64, Q×f = 3890–7120 GHz, and τ f = -15.84 to −10.53 ppm/°C; and at T = 1200 °C, ε r = 13.64–15.24, Q×f = 7240–8910 GHz, and τ f = -24.46 to −9.21 ppm/°C. Furthermore, at a sintering temperature of 950 °C, the ceramics exhibit favourable chemical compatibility with silver, satisfying the key requirements of low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology for both densification temperature and electrode co-firing stability. Materials exhibiting long-persistent luminescence (LPL) in the visible spectrum hold pivotal importance for anti-counterfeiting and encryption. Nevertheless, conventional LPL materials generally possess a fixed afterglow color. This constraint makes it imperative to develop multimodal luminescent systems featuring spectrally tunable afterglow. Herein, the Er3+/Sm3+ co-doped Ca3Ga4O9 phosphors achieve multicolor photoluminescence (PL), upconversion luminescence (UCL), and color-tunable LPL by responding to multiple excitations modes ranging from ultraviolet (UV) to near-infrared radiation (NIR). Spectral analysis reveals a green-to-orange multicolor afterglow by varying the relative concentrations of Er3+ and Sm3+ ions. To unravel the mechanism of multicolor afterglow, afterglow spectra and thermoluminescence (TL) spectra are systematically employed to probe the trap distribution mediated by Er3+ and Sm3+ co-doping. Finally, their prospective application in optical anti-counterfeiting and information encryption is also systematically investigated based on the color-tunable LPL. This successful integration of multicolor, multimodal luminescence with color-tunable afterglow in a single host provides a novel platform for anti-counterfeiting and encryption, significantly expanding the visual diversity of displayable information.

A series of BaAl12O19:Sm2+/SrAl12O19:Sm3+ mixed-phase phosphors were produced in one step using the traditional high-temperature solid-phase process. Because Sm is divalent in BaAl12O19 and trivalent in SrAl12O19, the coexistence of Sm2+ and Sm3+ is realized in the mixed-phase host. Since the temperature sensitivity of Sm2+ and Sm3+ in the solid solution host is significantly different, this makes it possible for the sample to measure temperature based on the fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR). The crystal model, ion emission spectrum, and temperature sensitivity of these phosphors are studied in detail. Under the co-excitation of a 410 nm excitation source, this sample has excellent temperature measurement performance in the range of 313–513 K. Based on the FIR method, the maximum absolute temperature sensitivity (Sa) is 0.55 K–1 at 513 K, and the maximum relative temperature sensitivity (Sr) is 2.47%K–1 at 453 K. Moreover, based on the photoluminescence lifetime temperature measurement mode, the largest value of Sa at 413 K is 0.046 K–1, and the maximum value of Sr at 473 K is 3.10%K–1. In short, the BaAl12O19:Sm2+/SrAl12O19:Sm3+ solid solution is a kind of phosphor with nice temperature measurement ability, and it has very strong potential in the application of noncontact optical thermometers.
