Experimental Research on ZnFe2O4@ZnCo2O4//AC@PANI Supercapacitor Energy Storage Devices for New Energy Vehicles Based on “Dual Carbon” Goals

Yifei Wang,Yang Wang,Qing Liu,Gengchen Li,Jing Wang

Driven by the “Dual Carbon” goals, supercapacitors have become critical energy storage devices for new energy electric vehicles. In this paper, a ZnFe2O4@ZnCo2O4core–shell cathode was prepared by a hydrothermal method followed by high-temperature annealing, and an AC@PANI composite anode was synthesized through in situ polymerization. The materials were characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, nitrogen adsorption–desorption and electrochemical tests. The ZnFe2O4rod-like core provides mechanical stability, whereas the ZnCo2O4nanosheet shell increases the specific surface area and exposes more active sites. The cathode delivers 2133 F/g at 1 A/g with 94.4% retention after 10,000 cycles. The anode reaches 398 F/g at 1 A/g. The cathode delivers 2133 F/g at 1 A/g with 94.4% retention after 10,000 cycles. The anode reaches 398 F/g at 1 A/g. The assembled ZnFe2O4@ZnCo2O4//AC@PANI hybrid supercapacitor works in a wide voltage range of 0–1.6 V. It exhibits a specific capacitance of 157 F/g at 1 A/g and a high energy density of 54.7 Wh/kg at a power density of 1600 W/kg. The device retains 91.4% of its initial capacity after 10,000 charge–discharge cycles. This study offers a promising strategy for high-performance automotive supercapacitors.

Hydrochloric acid-mediated synthesis of ZnFe2O4 small particle decorated one-dimensional Perylene Diimide S-scheme heterojunction with excellent photocatalytic ability

Yangrui Xu,Xiaodie Zhu,Huan Yan,Panpan Wang,Minshan Song,Changchang Ma,Ziran Chen,Jinyu Chu,Xinlin Liu,Ziyang Lu

The recyclable and stable ZnFe 2 O 4 small particle decorated one-dimensional perylene diimide (PDI) S-scheme heterojunction (1D PDI/ZnFe 2 O 4 ) is prepared by the hydrochloric acid-mediated (HCl-mediated) strategy, interestingly, the morphology of the 1D PDI/ZnFe 2 O 4 can also be effectively regulated by HCl-mediated process, the existence of HCl can regulate PDI into a uniform rod structure, while the co-existence of HCl and PDI can limit ZnFe 2 O 4 to become the uniform small particles. More importantly, based on the 1D rod structure of PDI and the small size effect of ZnFe 2 O 4 , carriers can migrate to the surface more easily, which can improve the photocatalytic activity. Meanwhile, due to the appropriate energy level structure, the S-scheme heterojunction structure is formed between PDI and ZnFe 2 O 4 , which eliminates meaningless photo-generated charge carriers through recombination and introduces strong redox to further enhance the photodegradation effect, thereby, 1D PDI/ZnFe 2 O 4 exhibits excellent photocatalytic ability, under the visible light irradiation, the degradation rate of tetracycline (TC) with 1D PDI/ZnFe 2 O 4 (66.67%) is 9.18 times that with PDI (7.26%) and 9.73 times that with ZnFe 2 O 4 (6.85%). This work proposes new ideas for the assembly of magnetic organic-inorganic S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts.

Effective photocatalytic removal of As(III) by ZnFe2O4/Ag/AgCl coupled peroxymonosulfate: Z-Scheme charge transfer and dual active sites

Dashi Lei,Juanqin Xue,Xiangyu Peng,Shuhao Li,Qiang Bi,Changbin Tang,Liang Zhang,Jing Zhang

Inorganic arsenic threatens human health due to its high mobility and toxicity. In this work, rapid and effective treatment of As(III) wastewater was achieved by Z-Scheme photocatalyst (ZnFe 2 O 4 /Ag/AgCl). By means of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation, 50 mg/L As(III) was completely removed within 20 min under light irradiation. During photocatalytic system, free radicals ( SO 4 − , OH, O 2 − ) and non-radicals ( 1 O 2 ) were responsible for As(III) removal. The fast PMS activation was attributed to the loop conversion of Fe(III)/Fe(II) and Ag 0 /Ag + . Besides, density functional theory (DFT) calculations exhibited that Fe atoms were active sites for As(III) adsorption and Ag nanoparticles were spots for PMS activation. Specially, the dual active sites on photocatalyst could effectively minimize the distance between oxidizing product with arsenite molecular and thus facilitate As(III) fast oxidation.

Rational design of Z-scheme ZnFe2O4/Ag@Ag2CO3 hybrid with enhanced photocatalytic activity, stability and recovery performance for tetracycline degradation

Ping Wei,Shiheng Yin,Tao Zhou,Chao Peng,Xiaolong Xu,Juncai Lu,Minchao Liu,Jianbo Jia,Kun Zhang

The occurrence of pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) in the ambient environment has raised serious concerns. Herein, a dispersed ZnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticle loaded Ag@Ag 2 CO 3 nanorod hybrid (ZnFe 2 O 4 /Ag@Ag 2 CO 3 ) was facile prepared, and used as a solar light driven photocatalyst for the degradation of tetracycline (TC), a typical   PPCPs. The hybrids were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS, HRTEM, DRS, PL, TRPL, M−H , BET, XPS, ESR and photoelectrochemical testing. The ZnFe 2 O 4 was evenly dispersed on the surface of Ag@Ag 2 CO 3 nanorods of which diameter was about 100 nm. The obtained ZnFe 2 O 4 /Ag@Ag 2 CO 3 composites exhibited high TC degradation efficiency after 150 min Xe light illumination, which was much better than those of pure Ag@Ag 2 CO 3 and ZnFe 2 O 4 . The photodegradation reaction rate constant ( k ) of the optimum ternary photocatalyst (ZnFe 2 O 4 loading 5% wt) increased 4.04 times and 2.48 times than those of pure ZnFe 2 O 4 and Ag 2 CO 3 @Ag, respectively. More importantly, the stability and recovery capacity of the ZnFe 2 O 4 /Ag@Ag 2 CO 3 photocatalyst improved obviously than those of Ag@Ag 2 CO 3 . The reactive oxygen species (ROS) experiment indicated that • OH、h + and • O 2 − involved in the photocatalytic reaction process, and the ROS contributes order was • O 2 − > h + > • OH. The band positions of individual ZnFe 2 O 4 and Ag 2 CO 3 were elucidated via DRUV–Vis spectra and Mott-Schottky plots. Based on the results of ROS experiment and band structure of ZnFe 2 O 4 and Ag 2 CO 3 , it could be inferred that the photocatalytic reaction of ZnFe 2 O 4 /Ag@Ag 2 CO 3 abided by Z-scheme mechanism, that is, Ag acted as the electronic bridge between Ag 2 CO 3 and ZnFe 2 O 4 , and the • OH and • O 2 − were formed on the valence band (VB) of Ag 2 CO 3 and conduction band (CB) of ZnFe 2 O 4 , respectively, and then TC was further oxidized. The sufficient photocatalytic degradation of TC in ambient water revealed that a sunlight-driven ZnFe 2 O 4 /Ag@Ag 2 CO 3 photocatalytic process may be efficiently applied for the remediation of PPCPs contaminated natural waters.

MOF-on-MOF-derived hollow tubular ZnFe2O4/Er-ZnO heterojunctions for the efficient degradation of tetracycline by visible light photocatalysis

Jun Yu,Hao Yang,Xiangyu Li,Xupeng Chen,Wenyue Li,Xingang Li,Chun Zhang

Semiconductor photocatalytic technology is recognized as one of the effective technologies for using solar energy to solve current environmental problems. In this study, a Z-scheme heterojunction ZnFe 2 O 4 /Er-ZnO hollow nanotube composite was prepared by hydrothermal method. The results show that the degradation efficiency of tetracycline (TC) in ZnFe 2 O 4 is only 51 %, while the degradation efficiency of ZnFe 2 O 4 /2% Er-ZnO hollow tube composites is as high as 97 %. At the same time, ZnFe 2 O 4 /2% Er-ZnO has a larger specific surface area (specific surface area of 224.39 m 2  · g −1 ), which is 27 times that of ZnFe 2 O 4 (specific surface area of 8.30 m 2 ·g −1 ). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations and experimental analysis show that the doping of Er, the unique hollow structure and the formation of heterojunction make ZnFe 2 O 4 /2% Er-ZnO have a large specific surface area, efficient carrier separation ability and strong redox ability, so the Z-scheme heterojunction ZnFe 2 O 4 /2% Er-ZnO hollow tubular composites have strong degradation ability for tetracycline. In addition, the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis technique was used to propose the possible degradation pathways of antibiotics, which provided ideas for the treatment of water pollution.

Tetrasulfonatomethyl-n-hexyl calix[4]resorcinarene tetrasodium assisted preparation of ZnFe2O4/ZnO composites with enhanced photodegradation performance for organic contaminants

Bin Du,Haoran Ye,Yincheng Wang,Ming Shen,Hui Zhou

The limited optical adsorption range and rapid recombination of photoexcited electron-hole pairs have severely hindered the development of ZnO-based photocatalysts . As macromolecular compounds, calixarenes become potential photocatalyst modifiers owing to their special molecular structures. In this work, ZnFe 2 O 4 /ZnO heterojunction photocatalysts which consist of ZnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles and ZnO nanosheets were fabricated by simple hydrothermal reaction with the introduction of tetrasulfonatomethyl-n-hexyl calix[4]resorcinarene tetrasodium (THCRT 1 ). The synthesized ZnFe 2 O 4 /ZnO nanocomposite possesses a larger specific surface area , broader-spectrum absorption and an electronegative surface due to the addition of THCRT. Furthermore, the successful construction of ZnFe 2 O 4 /ZnO heterojunction leads to low charge transfer resistance and enhanced photocurrent density. Therefore, the THCRT-capped ZnFe 2 O 4 /ZnO composite exhibited superior adsorptive performance and removal efficiency towards Rhodamine B (RhB) and Levofloxacin hydrochloride (LH). The calcined nanocomposite degraded 95.80 % of RhB (10 mg L −1 ) and 97.86 % of LH (20 mg L −1 ) after 120 min under simulated sunlight illumination at a minimal catalyst dosage of 0 .1 g L −1 . Additionally, to determine the band structures , the band gaps, valence band positions and the Fermi levels were measured by Tauc plot, valence band x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS-Vb) and Mott-Schottky plot, respectively. Finally, based on the band structure results, we proposed a potential photocatalytic mechanism of n-n heterojunction. This work offers a promising prospect in the treatment of sewage containing organic contaminants.

Cu-doped ZnFe2O4 activating peroxymonosulfate for the degradation of organic contaminants: reaction kinetics, molecular structure- and pH-dependent reaction mechanisms

Yuanyuan Zhang,Jingchen Hao,Zhenyu Wang,Jiahao Cui,Yongfang Rao,Wei Yan

This study prepared Cu-doped ZnFe₂O₄ (Cu-ZFO) for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation, achieving 94% primidone (PMD) removal in 30   min, much higher than ZnFe₂O₄ (20%) due to the introduction of oxygen vacancies and Cu-enhanced Fe catalytic activity. Kinetic analysis revealed reaction orders of 1.25, 1.2, and 0.22 with respect to Cu-ZFO, PMS, and PMD, respectively. Electron transfer pathway (ETP) and free radical oxidation were believed to be involved in the degradation of various organic contaminants in Cu-ZFO/PMS system under neutral conditions through radicals quenching experiments, EPR measurements, electrochemical measurements, and Density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The dominant oxidation pathway for organic contaminants is dependent on their molecular structure and the solution pH. This study provides new insights into PMS activation mechanisms and signals attention to researchers and engineers about the potential influence of molecular structure and pH on oxidation pathways of organics during wastewater treatment using metal oxide-activated PMS.

A comparative structural and combustion study of Al-MO/PVDF (MO=ZnO & ZnFe2O4) thermites synthesised by electrospraying and mechanical mixing

Zhong-xuan Han,Hao Liu,Zhan-jun Yang,Yi-fan Guo,Shu-na Zhao,Mi Li,Lin Jiang,Andrei Rotaru

Aluminised thermites show strong potential for energy-intensive applications, but ensuring stable nanoscale dispersion and optimising combustion performance is challenging. This study prepared Al–MO/PVDF thermites (MO = ZnO, ZnFe₂O₄) by electrospraying and mechanical mixing to compare how particle morphology and compositional uniformity affect reactivity. Electrosprayed samples formed near-spherical, submicron particles with homogeneous distributions of reactants, whereas mechanically mixed samples aggregated into larger, irregular clusters. Differential scanning calorimetry revealed sharper, staged exothermic peaks in the electrosprayed thermites, indicating enhanced reactant contact, while the mechanically mixed thermites produced broad, overlapping exotherms. X-ray diffraction showed partial amorphisation and core-shell formation under rapid solvent evaporation. Laser ignition tests demonstrated faster ignition, higher flame temperatures, and more intense combustion in electrosprayed formulations, particularly Al–ZnFe₂O₄/PVDF, which exhibited a secondary heat release (micro-explosion). Electrospray-assisted fabrication improved homogeneity and promoted rapid, high-temperature reactions for enhanced combustion performance.

Rational surface-state modulation of ZnO/ZnFe2O4 heterogeneous composites for sub-ppm-level high-performance acetone sensing toward noninvasive diabetes diagnosis

Xingyu Liu,Yonglin Chen,Yifei Wang,Jiayao Wang,Shiquan Chen,Yuxiang Ou,Zixuan Wu,Aiping Huang,Xianzhe Liu,Jianyi Luo

Spinel ferrite (MFe 2 O 4 ) has emerged as an ideal candidate material for non-invasive breath analysis acetone sensors in diabetes diagnostics due to its outstanding chemical stability and exceptional surface redox activity. However, existing MFe 2 O 4 -based gas sensors remain constrained by critical limitations, including high detection limits and low sensitivity to sub-ppm levels of acetone, which hinder their practical application in diabetes diagnosis. This study developed a simple and efficient strategy for successfully preparing ZnO/ZnFe 2 O 4 heterojunction composites by adjusting the pH of the solution. Specifically, leveraging the drastic solubility difference between Zn 2+ and Fe 3+ ions, we achieved controlled formation of ZnO/ZnFe 2 O 4 heterophases within a specific pH range (5.02–5.35). These structural features facilitate the adsorption of acetone molecules and boost the efficiency of charge transfer, thereby endowing the composites with superior acetone-sensing performance at the sub-ppm level. Notably, the as-synthesized ZnO/ZnFe 2 O 4 (pH = 5.02) heterogeneous composites exhibited exceptional gas-sensing performance toward 1.0 ppm acetone, including a low detection limit of 0.40 ppb, a high response (13.76), a fast response time of 6 s, excellent selectivity, long-term operational stability, and robust humidity tolerance. More importantly, the ZnO/ZnFe 2 O 4 sensor could successfully distinguish exhaled breath samples from healthy individuals and simulated diabetic patients, thus highlighting its potential for clinical breath analysis. The results demonstrate that the preparation of ZnO/ZnFe 2 O 4 heterojunction composites with tunable surface states and surface barriers through rational synthetic strategies provides a new paradigm for designing high-performance spinel ferrite-based composites, thereby advancing the development of non-invasive diabetes diagnostic tools.

Shape-Controlled Synthesis of Coral-like ZnO/C-ZnFe2O4 Hierarchical Structures and Their Improved Photocatalytic Antibacterial Efficiency under Visible Light Illumination

Yinan Gu,Guixiang Teng,Xiaodong Jin,Liping Wang,Zengwei Qiang,Weigang Ma,Chun Zhang

A coral-like ZnO/C-ZnFe2O4 (Z/C-ZFO) photocatalyst was synthesized by simulating the structural characteristics of coral since its structure is conducive to the capture and absorption of light. The synthesis process involves a two-step process. First, flowerlike hierarchical precursors were synthesized through a hydrothermal self-assembled route. Next, the precursors were thermally annealed in a nitrogen atmosphere after doping with a zinc source. In addition to forming heterojunctions that enhance its photocatalytic properties, the coral-like nanostructures endowed Z/C-ZFO with significant light-harvesting efficiency. Finally, the photocatalyst was used for antibacterial applications against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The results showed that the optimized sterilization efficiencies toward E. coli and S. aureus bacteria were 99.4 and 98.0%, respectively, combined with excellent cycling stability. The method of designing and synthesizing coral-like structures in this study may also be extended to the synthesis of other photocatalytic and optical materials.

Novel preparation of MOF derived Co(OH)2/ZnFe2O4 magnetic micro-nanoreactor with boost peroxymonosulfate activation for enhanced antibiotic contaminant oxidation

Hang Wang,Qing Sun,Yuanyuan Lin,Jian Zhang,Jiawei Sheng

Development of highly efficient and recyclable catalysts based on peroxymonosate (PMS) activation for the degradation of dangerous antibiotic contaminants was still a challenging topic. In this study, a highly efficient and recyclable heterogeneous Co(OH) 2 /ZnFe 2 O 4 (Co-ZF) catalysts derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were prepared by a facile alkaline solution hydrothermal method , a high specific surface area (100.4 m 2 g −1 ) and soft magnetic properties (Ms=25.3 emu g −1 ) composite material was obtained, and used for degrading norfloxacin (NOF) via PMS activation. The effects of temperature, alkali concentration, pH, initial NOF concentration, PMS and catalyst dosage on NOF degradation were discussed in detail. The results illustrated that the degradation rate of norfloxacin by the 3Co-ZF160 catalyst synthesized under 3 M NaOH and 160 ℃ hydrothermal conditions was 97.2%, after four consecutive cycles of degradation, the degradation rate of NOF by 3Co-ZF160 remained over 91% within 60 min. In contrast, the degradation rate of the Co 3 O 4 /ZnFe 2 O 4 (CZF-600) catalyst calcined at 600 ℃ was only 74% available. Furthermore, The results of radical quenching suggested that OH•, SO 4 • − , SO 5 • − and 1 O 2 functioned in the presence of the Co(OH) 2 /ZnFe 2 O 4 -PMS system. Eventually, NOF degradation pathways were tentatively proposed on the basis presented via LC-MS. The above results highlight that the practical application of Co(OH) 2 /ZnFe 2 O 4 heterogeneous catalyst in aqueous solution was of great significance.

Photothermal-driven magnetic ZnFe2O4 “three-in-one” nanoplatform for interfacial enrichment and rapid screening of 3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol in edible oils

Chenxi Liu,Jihan Huang,Sinuo Cheng,Huiyuan Tang,Xizhi Shi,Bo Liu,Wang Li,Bo Zhou,Jiali Ren

Detection of 3-MCPD in lipid-rich food matrices remains challenging due to trace analyte levels, high viscosity, and severe matrix interference. Herein, a photothermal-driven magnetic “three-in-one” sensing platform based on L -cysteine-functionalized ZnFe 2 O 4 ( L -ZFO) nanoparticles was developed for rapid and sensitive screening of 3-MCPD in edible oils. The multifunctional platform integrates magnetic enrichment, photothermal-assisted signal amplification, and colorimetric sensing, enabling efficient extraction and detection with minimal sample pretreatment. Benefiting from the synergistic interfacial enrichment and photothermal enhancement, the proposed method exhibited a linear range of 0.01–0.20 mg/L with a low detection limit of 1.4 μg/L. The platform showed acceptable recoveries of 75.0–92.0% and relative standard deviations below 5.8% in edible oil samples. Moreover, comparable responses obtained in buffer and oil matrices demonstrated excellent anti-interference capability toward complex lipid systems. The recyclable L -ZFO probe also exhibited good stability and reproducibility over 3 cycles. This work provides an elimination of pretreatment strategy for rapid on-site screening of 3-MCPD in edible oils.
