Triethylamine (TEA), a toxic and explosive volatile organic compound (VOC) gas, is hazardous to human health and the environment. Therefore, it is crucial to develop crystal-faceted TEA gas sensors with improved sensitivity and rapid detection capabilities. In this study, TiO 2 nanocrystal sensors with different crystal facets of anatase {101} and {001} and rutile {110} were synthesized using the hydrothermal method. The nanomaterials underwent characterization through XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS, and BET analysis. The results revealed that the materials exhibited bipyramid anatase {101} facet, nanorod anatase {001} facet, and rutile {110} facet. The sensors demonstrated superior gas sensing performance in the following order: {101} > {110} > {001} facets to 100 ppm TEA gas at 240 °C. The sensors also exhibited short response and recovery times, low detection limits, excellent stability, repeatability, and selectivity. The enhanced sensing properties of {101} faceted TiO 2 can be ascribed to the bipyramid structure and crystal facets with higher adsorbed oxygen peak specific area, which provide numerous active sites and improved extra oxygen-active site species. This study offers valuable insight into the design mechanism to enhance the TEA response of {101} faceted TiO 2 and further contributes to our understanding of the sensitivity of crystal faceted sensors.

This study presents the design of a composite photocatalyst that harnesses the combined effects of internal and external heterojunctions for enhanced performance. The internal heterojunction is achieved by annealing NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti) (NM) under an argon atmosphere, forming an N-doped C-coated anatase/rutile heterostructure (A-NM). By controlling the annealing temperature, the A-NM prepared at 650 °C (A 650 -NM) demonstrates superior photocatalytic CO 2 reduction capability, with an outstanding CO production rate of 0.25 μmol h −1 g −1 under a light intensity of 0.1 W cm −2 . An external heterojunction is then created by combining NM and A 650 -NM in an optimized ratio. At an optimal composite ratio of 9:1 (NM: A 650 -NM), the CO production rate reached 6.3 μmol h −1 g −1 , which is 3.5 times higher than NM and 25 times higher than A 650 -NM. Characterization and DFT analyses reveal that the improved performance stems from the internal heterojunction within A 650 -NM's TiO 2 crystal phases and the external heterojunction between NM and A 650 -NM, which enhanced charge separation and carrier mobility. The N-doped carbon layer further boosts charge carrier transfer efficiency. This work introduces a novel Metal–Organic Framework (MOF)-based photocatalyst for CO 2 reduction, offering valuable theoretical insights and practical strategies for optimizing its performance.

The effect of nanomaterials aging, namely the transformation of comprehensive characteristics after experiencing real or complex environmental behaviors, on their ecotoxicology is still lacking. Moreover, the mechanisms by which NPs influence biological phosphorus (P) removal during sewage treatment require further elucidation. Therefore, we used both pristine and aged anatase (TiO 2 -A) and rutile (TiO 2 -R) NPs to investigate the mechanisms by which NPs affect P removal in a SBR. At 0.1 mg/L, the four types of NPs (pristine and aged) had no significant effect on sludge purification after acute (72-h) exposure under simulated sunlight. However, at 50 mg/L—regardless of the crystalline phase of the NPs—SOP and COD removal efficiency dropped steeply to approximately 42.2–82.4 % (p < 0.05) and 69.8–83.3 % (p < 0.05), respectively, especially in the pristine TiO 2 -NPs groups because of decrease of richness and diversity of genus level of PAOs and enzyme activity of both PPK and PPX, and the sluggish transformation of PHA and glycogen. Aging reduced the ability of NPs toxicity. The toxicity mechanisms of TiO 2 -NPs included lipid peroxidation and contact damage, or leakage from bacterial cytoplasmic membrane, which are closely related to photooxidation capacity and aqueous solution stability—i.e., nanoscale effects—and the impacts of aging or inclusion.

Polyethyleneimine (PEI) modified PluronicF127 block copolymers (PEI-F127-PEI) were synthesized via a chemical reaction of isocyanate and hydroxyl group. By using PEI-F127-PEI block copolymers as templates combined with a sol–gel process, followed by evaporation-driven assembly
and calcination process, mesoporous TiO2 nanomaterials with different phase composition (rutile, anatase/rutile mixture, and anatase) and morphology were prepared. The prepared TiO2 samples were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction
(XRD), UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectrophotometry and N2 adsorption analysis. It is found that the mass ratio of TiCl4/PEI-F127-PEI and calcination temperature have an important influence on the phase composition and morphology of TiO2. Compared to
reported values, the transformation temperature from anatase to rutile decrease. When the mass ratio of TiCl4/PEI-F127-PEI is 2.0/1, the prepared sample exhibits the highest photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under UV light irradiation, indicating
that the mixed anatase/rutile phase TiO2 is an efficient photodegradation catalyst of MB pollutant in wastewater treatment.

The conventional heterojunction formed by combining two different semiconductors is associated with issues of low compatibility, restricted intimate contact, and limited charge anti-recombination process. To address these issues, a simple strategy was adopted to fabricate a hetero-phase junction flanked with two dissimilar crystal phases of a single semiconducting material . This study employed TiB 2 as the initial material to fabricate an anatase/rutile TiO 2 hetero-phase junction material (AR-TiO 2 ), followed by its combination with highly conductive monolayer Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets to develop an AR-TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 composite photocatalyst . The photocatalyst displayed a wide range of light absorption and a remarkable capability for separating photogenerated carriers. The closely interconnected hetero-phase junction surface, formed by the rutile and anatase phases of AR-TiO 2 , combined with the incorporation of highly conductive Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets , synergistically increased the availability of multi-dimensional active sites and increased the efficacy of separating photogenerated electron pairs. The optimized AR-TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 achieved a degradation efficiency of 91.49 % for tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) within 2 h and produced 1005.81 μmol of hydrogen in 6 h. The impacts of initial pH, co-existing anions, initial TCH concentration, initial temperature, and various pollutant species on the catalytic efficiency were also investigated. pH was shown to have the greatest impact on the photocatalytic performance of AR-TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 for TCH degradation. •O 2 − , and h + were identified as the primary reactive species that enabled the photocatalytic performance of AR-TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 through trapping experiments. This study presents a novel method to synthesize hetero-phase junction photocatalysts and suggests that Ti 3 C 2 has potential prospects for use in photocatalysis .

Carbon-based all-inorganic perovskite solar cells are currently emerging as a commercial and promising photovoltaic device . Rutile TiO 2 has the function of UV shielding and preventing the decomposition of perovskite, furthermore, TiO 2 nanorod array provides the direct 1-D electron transmission channel. Herein, vertically oriented rutile TiO 2 nanorods array are synthesized on the FTO substrate by a simple one-step hydrothermal process and used as the electron transfer layer. The analysis of characterization illustrates that the prepared TiO 2 is a flawless single rutile phase. TiO 2 nanorods are employed as an ETL to provide a passage for the rapid and direct charge transfer. The separation of electrons and holes can be enhanced by ammonium acetate treatment of the TiO 2 nanorod ETL/perovskite interface, and the carrier recombination can be efficiently lowered. Based on the structure of FTO/TiO 2 @CH 3 COONH 4 /CsPbI 2.25 Br 0.75 /C, the best device containing 2.5 mg/mL ammonium acetate modified TiO 2 nanorods showed a short-circuit current density of 14.55 mA/cm 2 , open-circuit voltage of 1.08 V, and fill factor of 69.45 %, yielding a power conversion efficiency of 11.53 %, which show an increase in efficiency of approximately 22.4% when compared with the control cell. The results show that ammonium acetate interface modification is an effective strategy to enhance the photovoltaic performance of PSCs.

The development of economical, highly active, and robust electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is one of the major obstacles for producing affordable water splitting systems and metal-air batteries. Herein, it is reported that the subnanometric CoO x clusters with high oxidation state substitutionally dispersed in the lattice of rutile TiO 2 support (Co-TiO 2 ) can be prepared by a thermally induced phase segregation process. Owing to the strong interaction of CoO x clusters and TiO 2 support, Co-TiO 2 exhibits both excellent intrinsic activity and durability for OER. The turnover frequency of Co-TiO 2 is up to 3.250 s −1 at overpotentials of 350 mV; this value is one of the highest in terms of OER performance among the current Co-based active materials under similar testing conditions; moreover, the OER current density loss is only 6.5% at a constant overpotential of 400 mV for 30 000 s, which is superior to the benchmark Co 3 O 4 and RuO 2 catalysts. Mechanism analysis demonstrates that charge transfer occurs between Co sites and their neighboring Ti atoms, triggering the efficient Co Ti cooperative catalytic centers, in which OH* and O* are preferred to be adsorbed on the bridging sites of Co and Ti with favorable adsorption energy, inducing a lower energy barrier for O 2 generation.

Anatase/rutile titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) with heterophase junction and large Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) specific surface area (50.1 m 2 g −1 ) is successfully synthesized by calcinating Materials of Institut Lavoisier-125(Ti) (MIL-125(Ti)) with 30% O 2 /Ar at the temperature of 600 °C (M−O−600). Several techniques are used to examine the physicochemical, photoelectrochemical and optical properties of samples, and their photocatalytic performances are evaluated by photodegradation of gaseous toluene and liquidus tetracycline (TC) under visible light illumination. It is found that the calcination temperature has significant influence on the crystal structure and physicochemical parameters of TiO 2 . The weight fractions of rutile and anatase TiO 2 of M−O−600 are approximately 0.7 and 0.3, which displays outstanding photocatalytic activity . Through the construction of heterophase junction, M−O−600 has better oxygen adsorption and higher density of localized states, which effectively promotes the generation of superoxide radical (·O 2 – ) and hydroxyl radical (·OH) species. In-situ infrared spectra indicate that toluene is oxidized to benzyl alcohol , benzaldehyde and benzoic acid in turn and then oxidized to formic acid and acetic acid before eventually degraded into H 2 O and CO 2 . Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC–MS) is also used to further investigate the degradation pathway of toluene. Degradation pathway and mechanism of TC are studied by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Moreover, three-dimensional excitation-emission matrix fluorescence spectroscopy (3D EEMs) and total organic carbon (TOC) show that TC can be effectively mineralized through a series of reactions by M−O−600 during photocatalysis .
