A novel Ag/BiOBr/CeO 2 composite was successfully prepared for the first time, which had excellent performance in degrading sulfisoxazole (SSX) under visible light irradiation. The as-prepared samples were characterized by SEM, XRD, UV–vis DRS and BET et al. The composite of 10% Ag/BiOBr/CeO 2 showed the best photocatalytic activity and more than 99.5% SSX can be removed within 20 min. It exhibited the highest k value of 0.2428 min −1 , which was about 39.7 times higher than pure BiOBr (6.11 × 10 −3 min −1 ) and 22.1 times higher than BiOBr/CeO 2 (1.09 × 10 −2 min −1 ), respectively. The addition of Ag significantly improved the absorption rate of visible light and the separation rate of photogenerated electron–hole pairs. The initial pH and dosage of samples could have an influence on the photocatalytic activity. The radical trapping experiments proved that · O 2 − and h + were the main active species involved in photocatalytic degradation. Finally, the synthesized catalyst maintained excellent photocatalytic activity after 5 repeated cycles, which indicated the extraordinary stability and recyclability of Ag/BiOBr/CeO 2 . The development of advanced and robust photocatalysts is vital for efficient photocatalytic degradation of the antibiotic tetracycline . Herein, a hierarchical heterojunction (Bi)BiOBr/rGO was facilely synthesized by employing an in-situ reduction strategy. An obvious synergistic effect between adsorption and photocatalysis was observed. A >98% tetracycline degradation efficiency was obtained within 20 min, and high performance could be maintained for over 50 h in a continuous operation without any post-treatment. The experimental and DFT calculation results suggested that there existed a built-in electric field between the interfaces, leading to the fast electron migration. Furthermore, rGO could significantly enhance the tetracycline adsorption, and Bi largely suppressed the charge carrier recombination owing to the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect. A possible tetracycline degradation pathway was proposed based on the HPLC-MS analysis. This study provides pathways for the rational design of advanced and robust photocatalysts to effectively degrade emerging contaminants in practical continuous-flow configurations.

This study successfully constructed a 3D hierarchical BiOBr/Mo 1−x S 2 Type II heterojunction photocatalyst via a solvothermal in situ precipitation coupled strategy, which significantly enhanced the visible-light photocatalytic degradation performance for tetracycline (TC). The results demonstrate that the composite system achieved a 90% TC removal rate within 60 min under visible-light irradiation, exhibiting markedly enhanced catalytic activity compared to pure BiOBr and Mo 1−x S 2 . Structural characterization revealed that wrinkled Mo 1 −xS 2 nanosheets were precisely anchored onto the surface of flower-like BiOBr microspheres through interfacial chemical bonds, forming an intimately coupled heterointerface. This effectively broadened the visible-light absorption range and optimized carrier dynamics. Photoluminescence spectroscopy and photocurrent response tests confirmed that the Type II band alignment mechanism significantly promoted the spatial separation and transport efficiency of photogenerated carriers. Active species trapping experiments indicated that h + holes played a predominant role in TC degradation, while the synergistically enhanced reactive oxygen species (ROS) production further accelerated pollutant oxidation. Moreover, the catalyst maintained 79.7% degradation efficiency after 5 cycles, demonstrating excellent stability and engineering application potential. This work provides new insights for designing efficient and stable heterojunction photocatalysts and lays an experimental foundation for practical wastewater treatment in complex systems.

Semiconductor photocatalysis is an ideal and sustainable solution to effectively remove Tetracycline (TC). Herein, a hierarchical flexible nanofibrous film (NF) heterojunction photocatalyst of BiOBr/TiO 2 was fabricated via a combination of electrospinning and solvothermal method, obtaining the two-dimensional (2D) BiOBr nanosheets uniformly anchored on the surface of one-dimensional (1D) TiO 2 nanofiber, and the amount of BiOBr significantly influences the physicochemical properties of the heterojunction photocatalyst, the optimal sample of BT-2 manifests large pore size and high surface area, prominent visible light response ability and narrow band gap as well as outstanding charge separation efficiency, thus achieves significantly enhanced photocatalysis activity for TC degradation, which is about twice higher than that of the pristine TiO 2 NF. More importantly, the BT-2 sample also displays high reusability and stability over a 10-cycle period and can be easy to recover. Meanwhile, the radical scavenging experiments and electron spin resonance characterization reveal that ·O 2 – and h + occupy an irreplaceable role in degrading TC. Moreover, regarding the analysis of intermediates and density functional theory calculations, the TC photodegradation mechanism and pathways are proposed. Our finding offers a prospective solution for designing BiOBr/TiO 2 heterojunction recyclable photocatalysts for efficient TC photodegradation.

There is a growing awareness of practices focused on the in-depth treatment and decontamination processes of firefighters’ personal protective equipment to decrease health risks. Hence, TiO2-nanoparticle-modified Cu-doped BiOBr microflowers (BiOBr–Cu2+/TiO2) have been devised and used as effective constituents to construct a type of decontamination agent that can efficiently and deeply eliminate hazardous chemicals. The 3D microflowers can be admirable carriers for the prevention of aggregation and outstanding adsorption, and the construction of a heterojunction based on the copper-doping strategy and sequential harvesting of light strategy provides enhanced light absorbance and efficient charge separation. The proposed materials have a nanoparticle-interspersed microflower morphology, enhanced light-harvesting ability, and excellent transfer of photogenerated carriers, leading to more effective adsorption and solar-light-driven photocatalytic activity than other catalysts. Moreover, the BiOBr–Cu2+/TiO2 composites mixed with different solvents can be used as decontamination agents for the in-depth treatment of hazardous chemicals under different situations. It is believed that employing heterojunctions as the constituents of decontamination agents has promise to become an effective and feasible method for deep decontamination processes in firefighting work.

This work reported for the first time a systematic investigation on a BiOBr photocatalyzed oleic acid isomerization process in different (air, N2 and O2) atmospheres and proposed the cis–trans isomerization mechanism to effectively restrain the formation of trans fatty acids with deleterious effects on human health. The phase structures, optical properties, and morphologies of as-prepared BiOBr were characterized by XRD, UV-vis DRS, SEM and TEM. Besides, the photocatalyzed isomerization products over BiOBr in different atmospheres were analyzed with FT-IR and 1H NMR for comparison. The results demonstrate that there are significant differences in the photocatalytic isomerization process of oleic acid in different atmospheres, and especially the N2 atmosphere is the most favorable atmosphere, while the presence of O2 will inhibit the formation of elaidic acid. Moreover, density functional theory (DFT) was employed to calculate the charge density and energy difference of ground states between cis- and trans-isomers of oleic acid. Combining the theoretical and experimental findings, the radical cation and photo-induced h+ action mechanisms in the photocatalytic isomerization process were discussed and proposed. Our findings should provide new insights and basic data for understanding the photocatalytic isomerization of unsaturated fatty acids.

In this study, a magnetic Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /BiOBr composite photocatalyst was controllably synthesized a PVP-assisted solvothermal method. The Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /BiOBr composites are composed of many three-dimensional (3D) flower-like BiOBr microspheres loaded with many spherical Fe 3 O 4 particles. The formation mechanism and effect of PVP’s concentration on the products were investigated and proposed. Experimental results showed that PVP might act as a potential crystal plane inhibitor in the system as well as the stabilizer on the surface of BiOBr nanoplates. The Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 /BiOBr displayed high photocatalytic activity for the degradation of RhB under visible light irradiation, after which it can be easily recovered by applying an external magnetic field. Moreover, the as-prepared photocatalyst exhibited excellent stability and reusability in the cycled experiments.

Ternary Au/Bi2WO6/BiOBr composites were skillfully prepared via a two-step synthetic route. The two-component Bi2WO6/BiOBr heterojunction was firstly fabricated by hydrothermal method, and Au nanoparticles (NPs) were further introduced and uniformly anchored on the surface of Bi2WO6/BiOBr, where the loaded Au NPs could be beneficial for improving visible-light absorption and adjusting photoinduced charge carriers in the heterostructure through surface plasmon resonance (SPR). In comparison with pristine Bi2WO6 and two-component Bi2WO6/BiOBr, the ternary Au/Bi2WO6/BiOBr composite exhibits a better photocatalytic activity for removal of rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light irradiation. The degradation efficiency of GTB-3 composite 1.9 times higher than that of the pure Bi2WO6 and 1.24 times than that of Bi2WO6/BiOBr. Trapping tests with different scavengers revealed that not hydroxyl radicals but superoxide radicals and photogenerated holes were highly responsible for the degradation process. The enhanced photocatalytic activity was ascribed to the synergetic effect of heterojunction effect (efficient separation of charge carriers), porous structure of Bi2WO6 (strong adsorption), SPR of Au.

A series of niobium-doped BiOBr (Nb-BiOBr) were successfully synthesized via hydrothermal method. Moreover, the morphology structure and optical property of BiOBr and Nb-BiOBr samples were determined using various characterization techniques including SEM, TEM, EDS, BET, XRD, XPS and DRS, etc. The photocatalytic performance of Nb-BiOBr was deeply investigated with the rhodamine B and ofloxacin degradation under visible-light irradiation as model reaction. The results showed that Nb-BiOBr samples depicted the outstanding photocatalytic performance, especially for the 1.25Nb-BiOBr. Moreover, its reaction kinetic constant was ca. 6.4 times higher than that of undoped BiOBr. The observed photocatalytic performance could be attributed to the strong light absorption, enhanced separation efficiency of charge carriers as well as high specific surface area. Meanwhile, 1.25Nb-BiOBr demonstrated stability in RhB degradation, thereby facilitating the water treatment application.

In this study, a novel composite containing an iron based metal-organic framework (MOF) and BiOBr was successfully synthesized by a simple method, and was fully characterized by X-ray diffraction patterns, Fourier transform infrared spectra, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra, and transmission electron microscopy. Moreover, the photocatalytic activities of BiOBr/MIL-88B(Fe) composites and the pure materials were evaluated by measuring the degradation of Rhodamine B under visible light. The results show that the composite exhibits better photocatalytic activities than pure materials, which can be ascribed to the high adsorption capacity of MIL-88B(Fe) and the enhanced separation of photogenerated charge carriers from assembly of MIL-88B(Fe) on BiOBr. And the effects of various operating parameters such as catalyst dosage, medium pH, the mass ratio of BiOBr, and MIL-88B(Fe) and the dye initial concentration on the degradation of RhB have been studied.

Heterojunction construction offers an effective means to modulate band structures and enhance charge separation in photocatalysis. The aim of this work is to develop a high-performance photocatalyst for CO2 reduction by combining the advantages of 1D and 2D materials. To achieve this, a hierarchical S-scheme heterojunction comprising 1D SiC nanowires and 2D BiOBr nanosheets is designed and fabricated via a facile hydrothermal route as the key method. The formation of the S-scheme heterojunction facilitates efficient spatial charge separation while preserving the strong reduction and oxidation potentials of the respective components. As a result, the SiC/BiOBr composite exhibits significantly enhanced visible-light absorption and markedly suppressed photogenerated carrier recombination compared to pristine BiOBr. Under simulated solar irradiation, the optimal catalyst achieves a CO evolution rate of 715.98 μL·g–1·h–1, approximately six times and five times higher than those of pure SiC and BiOBr, respectively. Furthermore, the heterojunction demonstrates excellent stability over extended photocatalytic CO2 reduction cycles. In conclusion, this work provides a promising strategy for constructing S-scheme binary heterostructures toward cooperative applications in environmental remediation and solar fuel conversion.

The inability to achieve the selective recognition of specific chiral molecules or polarized photons has significantly hindered the application of conventional photocatalysts in asymmetric synthesis. To address this challenge, we have designed and synthesized discrete chiral BiOCl/BiOBr hybrid semiconductors with multilevel chirality, ranging from atomic-scale lattice distortion to microscale fan-blade-like plates and geometrically chiral superstructures. These hierarchically chiral semiconductors enable the polarization-dependent photodegradation of chiral tetracycline (TC) molecules. Under dark conditions, the L-BiOCl/BiOBr hybrids exhibit stronger adsorption for TC than their D counterparts, which can be attributed to conformational energy differences. Strikingly, under right-, left-, and linearly polarized light (RCP, LCP, and LP), the L-hybrids achieve TC degradation rates that are 19.3, 12.0, and 3.3 times higher, respectively, than those of the achiral reference. A similar polarization-dependent trend is observed for the D-hybrids. Combined DFT simulations and circularly polarized photocurrent measurements confirm that this photon-selective asymmetric catalysis originates from the synergistic interplay of an atomic-level chiral structure, polarized-light response, and spin-polarized charge separation. Moreover, L-BiOBC0.33 and D-BiOBC0.33 exhibit the same polarized photon-selective chiral catalytic behavior toward the degradation of chiral ofloxacin. This work establishes a paradigm for designing efficient chiral photocatalysts with hierarchical chirality, providing a route for tailoring nanomaterials for selective light–matter interactions and spin-polarized catalysis, with potential applications in chiral synthesis and chiral nanophotonics.
