Copper, an essential element to play significant roles in human health, can bind β -amyloid peptide (A β ) to form Cu 2+ -A β complexes and spontaneously generate harmful reduced oxygen species leading to oxidative stress in the brain. Herein, we present a simple, novel off–on photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor for dual detection of Cu 2+ and A β based on V 2 O 5 nanofibers (NFs)/CdS nanoparticles (NPs) as the photoactive material. Specially, V 2 O 5 NFs were prepared by the recrystallization method and then modified onto indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode. CdS NPs were subsequently deposited onto the surface of V 2 O 5 NFs by electrochemical deposition method. The well-matched energy level between V 2 O 5 NFs and CdS NPs effectively suppresses the recombination of photogenerated electron and hole (e - /h + ) pairs, leading to the admirable photocurrent response. Cu 2+ specifically coordinated with CdS to produce a CuxS adduct, which quenched the PEC intensity due to the recombination of excited electrons and holes. Interestingly, the constructed PEC sensing platform also exhibited a sensitive response to A β based on the high affinity of Cu 2+ for A β . In the presence of A β , its recognition with Cu 2+ led to the generation of Cu 2+ -A β complexes onto the V 2 O 5 /CdS surface, resulting in the recovery of PEC response. Under optimal conditions, the proposed PEC sensor possessed the detection limits toward Cu 2+ and A β as low as 0.15 nM and 8.0 fM, respectively. The “off–on” PEC probe was successfully applied to the detection of Cu 2+ and A β in the practical samples. The simple and sensitive PEC probe of V 2 O 5 NFs/CdS NPs shows great potential applications in biological analysis and early disease diagnosis.

In this study, we prepared reduced graphene oxide (rGO) from natural graphite by a redox method. The salts Cu(NO 3 ) 2 and Ni(NO 3 ) 2 , Cu(NO 3 ) 2 and Zn(NO 3 ) 2 , Cu(NO 3 ) 2 , Ni(NO 3 ) 2 , and Zn(NO 3 ) 2 are loaded onto rGO by an impregnation method. The support material is calcined to obtain the fresh catalyst. The catalysts are analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis, x-ray diffraction, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman analysis, and scanning and transmission electron microscopic imaging. The results showed that Ni and Zn are evenly distributed on the carrier. The size of the copper crystals in CuNi-rGO and CuZn-rGO is smaller than that of Cu-rGO. The smaller the copper crystal, the more easily Cu 2+ can be reduced to Cu 0 and Cu + .
The addition of Ni and Zn can promote reduction of Cu 2+ to Cu 0 and Cu + and may significantly improve the catalytic performance.

Graphene stratiform membrane materials have been recently applied to heavy metal removal in aqueous systems via adsorption due to their high mechanical strength, chemical stability, and other properties. We applied reduced graphene oxide (rGO) alone as an adsorbent to remove heavy metal ions from wastewater. Self-supported rGO membrane was prepared using a green reduction method with sodium hydrosulfite. We used the Raman spectra to observe the structure of the rGO membrane. The morphology of the self-supported membrane was measured by a scanning electron microscope. The Cu2+adsorption performance was measured in terms of pH, reaction time, metal ion concentration, and temperature. The maximum Cu2+adsorption capacity of the rGO membrane was found to be 149.25 mg/g. The adsorption process followed a pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and adsorption isotherms were simulated by the Freundlich model.

In this study, we report the colloidal synthesis (CS) of quaternary chalcogenide Cu2−xAgxCdSnSe4 nanocrystals (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4) and their application in thermoelectrics. The as-prepared Cu2−xAgxCdSnSe4 nanocrystals present a narrow size distribution ranging from 30 to 50 nm and a precisely controlled composition. Additionally, it was observed that the disordered zinc blende phases were embedded in the normal zinc blende phases and amorphous nanoparticles were dispersed on grain surfaces and between grain boundaries of spark plasma sintered bulk Cu2−xAgxCdSnSe4. Moreover, a large enhancement in the Seebeck coefficient and a dramatically reduced lattice thermal conductivity was found in Cu2−xAgxCdSnSe4 solid solution, resulting in the dimensionless thermoelectric figure of merit reaching a peak value of 0.8 at 688 K when x = 0.3. This represents a 44% and 83% improvement in comparison to the undoped sample and the sample made via the solid state method (SS), respectively. The results demonstrate an exciting scientific opportunity to raise the figure-of-merit of quaternary chalcogenide Cu2CdSnSe4 prepared by colloidal synthesis via optimized solid solution.

Silicon (Si)-based materials have been identified as next-generation preferred anode materials owing to their ultra-high specific capacity, environmental friendliness and low price. However, the defects in Si-based materials ( e.g., the large volume change with unstable solid electrolyte interface during repeated lithiation/delithiation processes and low intrinsic conductivity), will significantly destroy the integrity of electrode structure and get slow dynamic performance, resulting in a fast capacity fading. Herein, we prepared various silicon‑aluminum‑copper dendrites (named SCD-1/2/3) via a two-step displacement dealloying process, which was devoted to simultaneously improving structural instability, low ionic/electronic conductivity of Si crystals. Therefore, the SCD-2 anode possessed an initial Coulombic efficiency of 80 % and exhibited a superior capacity of 1851.7 mA h g −1 at 1 A g −1 after 100 cycles. This paper provides a simple method to gain the Si anodes with high initial Coulombic efficiency, relieved volume expansion and long cycling life.

Copper selenide compounds, owing to their excellent electrical transport properties and low thermal conductivity, are promising thermoelectric materials, but their poor mechanical flexibility limits practical applications in flexible devices. Herein, a simple all-electrochemical strategy was developed to fabricate polypyrrole (PPy)/Cu2−xSe composite thermoelectric films through sequential electropolymerization of pyrrole and electrodeposition of Cu2−xSe. By optimizing the deposition potential of Cu2−xSe and pyrrole polymerization time, the thermoelectric performance of the composite films was significantly enhanced. The optimized PPy/Cu2−xSe composite film achieved a maximum power factor of 174.05 ± 9.87 μW m−1K−2, nearly 300 times higher than that of pristine PPy, while maintaining a low thermal conductivity of 0.30 W m−1K−1. The composite film also exhibited excellent flexibility, retaining 94.77% of its initial power factor after 1000 bending cycles. A flexible thermoelectric device assembled from the composite films delivered a maximum output power of 240.5 nW at ΔT= 50 K. This work provides an effective strategy for developing Cu2−xSe-based flexible thermoelectric composites.

Novel Ti-doped thiol-functionalized adsorbent enables efficient Cu 2+ removal. • The adsorption mechanism was verified as sulfur-metal bonding. • PSAT-TGA outperforms conventional non-Ti flocculants in removal efficiency. • Optimal performance achieved at pH 5 with minimal dosage and short settling time. This study presents a novel thiol-functionalized titanium-doped polysilicate aluminum flocculant (PSAT-TGA) designed to address the low adsorption capacity and poor selectivity of conventional flocculants for heavy metal removal. Ti doping was employed to enhance structural stability and surface charge properties, while TGA modification was introduced to provide specific thiol chelating sites for Cu 2+ . The material was characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM, EDS, XPS, and TEM, and its adsorption performance was evaluated using kinetics, isotherms, parametric optimization, and anti-interference tests. Results showed that PSAT-TGA achieved rapid adsorption equilibrium within 20 min, with a maximum Langmuir adsorption capacity of 391.30 mg/g. The optimal conditions were determined to be pH 5, a dosage of 58.5 mg/L, and a sedimentation time 40 min. The optimal Ti doping ratio was n(Al):n(Ti) = 8:2, and a clear synergistic effect between Ti doping and TGA modification was observed. PSAT-TGA maintained high removal efficiency (>97%) under coexisting ion interference and outperformed several similar flocculants. This work provides a feasible, efficient, and low-cost strategy for designing functionalized silicate flocculants, which shows great practical significance for the treatment of copper-containing wastewater in mining, electronics, and metallurgical industries, and offers a reliable technical solution for solving heavy metal pollution in aquatic environments and safeguarding global water security. Short antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are promising alternatives to conventional antibiotics; however, their clinical translation is often limited by rapid systemic diffusion, non-specific distribution, and insufficient on-demand activation within infectious microenvironments. Here, a Cu 2+ -guided, infection-responsive antimicrobial platform is reported based on a tyrosine (Y)-modified, tryptophan (W)-rich short-AMP, (RWW)2Y7 (RWY). RWY was integrated into a mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA) carrier via dynamic metal-phenol coordination, forming MPDA-Cu 2+ -PEG@RWY (MCPR), which enables controlled peptide release under weakly acidic infection conditions (pH 5.5). Upon release, RWY interacts with co-released Cu 2+ through cation-π interactions, generating a pre-aggregated state that undergoes bacteria-responsive in situ self-assembly upon exposure to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or lipoteichoic acid (LTA). This adaptive nanoassembly markedly enhances antibacterial activity by inducing membrane disruption and depolarization, intracellular content leakage, metabolic collapse, ATP depletion, and excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation. Transcriptomic analysis further reveals broad suppression of ribosome biogenesis, energy metabolism, membrane transport, and extracellular polymeric substance (EPS)-associated pathways, thereby dismantling biofilm-related defense barriers. These coordinated effects translate into robust in vivo efficacy in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)-induced skin infection and peritonitis models, alongside a favorable biosafety profile. Overall, this work establishes a programmable, bacteria-triggered self-assembly strategy that advances short-AMPs toward precision anti-infective functional materials.

The development of detection devices with rapid response, high sensitivity, and precise detection capabilities for heavy metal ions remains a research hotspot in environmental protection and food safety. In this study, a facile and efficient synchronous doping/etching strategy was employed to synthesize hierarchically porous bimetallic MOF-derived CeSn@C-10 material. Comprehensive characterization techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that the incorporation of Sn species significantly enhanced oxygen vacancy concentration in the CeO 2 lattice while stabilizing low-valent Ce 3+ species, thereby boosting the electrocatalytic activity for CeSn@C-10. The hierarchical porous architecture endowed the material with an enlarged specific surface area and improved accessibility to active sites. When fabricated into an electrochemical sensor (CeSn@C-10/GCE), it exhibited exceptional Cu 2+ detection performance with dual linear ranges of 0.2–5 μM and 5–60 μM, achieving a low detection limit of 38 nM (S/N = 3). The sensor demonstrated remarkable anti-interference capability and promising applicability in real-sample analysis. This work provides a novel strategy for designing hierarchically porous bimetallic electrochemical sensors through synergistic enhancement mechanisms.

Mold has long been a priority because of its potential threat to human health and reduction in the value of wood. Most of the traditional mold inhibitors have toxic effects on the environment, so developing safe and nontoxic mold inhibitors remains a challenge. In this study, tannic acid carbon dots (TA-CDs) were obtained via a straightforward one-step hydrothermal process. Subsequently, Cu2+ cross-linked tannic acid carbon dot nanoparticles (TA-CDs-Cu2+) were synthesized by introducing Cu2+ to TA-CDs at room temperature. The TA-CDs-Cu2+ can be firmly anchored on the surface of Aspergillus niger spores, triggering the rapid release of Cu2+ and TA-CDs in the localized acidic environment. The released TA-CDs triggered the conversion of Cu2+ to Cu+, destroying the cell wall and cell membrane structure of A. niger and reducing cellular esterase activity. In addition, TA-CDs-Cu2+ has been demonstrated to diminish the biomass of biofilms markedly. The use of TA-CDs-Cu2+ on poplar and birch wood has achieved mold protection class 0 at 20 mg of Cu/mL, which were found to exhibit unparalleled advantages as a mold inhibitor. Meanwhile, the TA-CDs-Cu2+ has a warming effect and has opened up avenues for the design of mold inhibition therapeutic agents and photothermal synergistic mold inhibition.

Methylene blue (MB), acid fuchsin (AF), and divalent copper ions (Cu2+) are common aquatic pollutants known for their environmental persistence and biotoxicity, posing considerable risks to ecosystem integrity and human health. Therefore, developing efficient adsorbents for their elimination is crucial. In this study, an asymmetric concave polymer was synthesized through a one-step self-assembly method employing 3-aminophenol (3-AP) as the monomer, formaldehyde as the cross-linker, and ammonia as the catalyst, and then subjected to etching with acetone to refine its concave structure. The polymer demonstrated outstanding synchronous adsorption performance in both Cu2+/AF and AF/MB binary systems, achieving maximum adsorption capacities of 473.5 mg/g for MB, 1250.6 mg/g for AF, and 988.64 mg/g for Cu2+. The adsorption behaviors of AF and Cu2+ conformed to the Langmuir model, implying monolayer, spontaneous, and endothermic chemisorption. While MB adsorption was more accurately represented by the Freundlich model, reflecting a heterogeneous surface-based, spontaneous, and endothermic process. The adsorption kinetics for all three contaminants were best described by the pseudo-second-order model, affirming chemisorption as the rate-controlling step. These results reveal that the asymmetric concave adsorbent functions through a synergistic mechanism involving electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bonding, and chemical complexation. This study underscores the material’s wide application potential in treating complex water pollutants.

Non-stoichiometric copper sulfide (Cu2-xS) nanomaterials are promising antibacterial agents, but the role of morphology in regulating their bactericidal performance remains poorly understood. Herein, we rationally design two types of Cu2-xS nanostructures, namely nanoplates (NPs) and superparticles (SPs). Both materials were prepared via a ligand-directed synthesis method with the comparable sizes, surface ligands, and crystal phase. The antibacterial behaviors of Cu2-xS NPs and Cu2-xS SPs againstEscherichia coli(E. coli) andStaphylococcus aureus(S. aureus) were investigated under dark and 808 nm near-infrared (NIR) light irradiation. The results showed that under NIR light irradiation, Cu2-xS SPs exhibit a markedly higher bactericidal efficiency against bothE. coliandS. aureusthan Cu2-xS NPs, leading to almost complete eradication of bacterial colonies. Notably,S. aureusshows more sensitive thanE. coli, and significant growth inhibition is observed even in the absence of laser irradiation. Mechanistic investigations reveal that hierarchical assembly of primary nanoparticles in SPs can promote multiple internal light scatterings, thereby significantly enhancing light harvesting efficiency and further improving the photothermal conversion efficiency. In addition, the SPs exhibited higher peroxidase-like activity, resulting in enhanced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and aggravated oxidative damage, and the accelerated Cu2+release kinetics strengthens ionic toxicity.
