Enhancing the stability and selectivity of flexible room-temperature gas sensors has been of extensive concern for their practical application. However, it is very challenging to combine the integration of excellent mechanical flexibility and outstanding gas sensing properties. This study presents the design of a parallel structure of ZnO//In2O3 bicomponent nanofibers using a homemade V-type dual-channel electrospinning technique. Compared with as-electrospinning pure ZnO nanofibers and pure In2O3 nanofibers, the ZnO//In2O3-2 composite nanofibers showed higher response and low detection line NO2 at room temperature. The ZnO//In2O3-2 nanofibers have a maximum high response of 109.84 to 60 ppm of NO2 at room temperature, which is about 8.44 times higher than that of the pure In2O3 nanofibers. Moreover, the theoretical detection limit for NO2 is determined to be 1.99 ppb. We have investigated the excellent flexibility of the gas sensor for potential application. These findings indicate that the flexible ZnO//In2O3-2 nanofiber sensors hold great prospect in the application of portable and room-temperature ppb NO2 detection equipment.

The co-existence of diverse antibiotics in wastewater systems necessitates the development of multifunctional catalysts for simultaneous pollutant remediation. While indium oxide (In 2 O 3 ) presents advantages as a semiconductor photocatalyst through its high electrical conductivity, low resistivity, and inherent oxygen vacancies, practical applications in broad-spectrum pollutant degradation remain constrained by rapid charge carrier recombination and limited visible-light utilization efficiency. To address these challenges, we developed plasmonic Au nanoparticle-decorated In 2 O 3 composites (Au NPs /In 2 O 3 ) via a controlled in-situ reduction strategy. Systematic characterization revealed that the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect of Au nanoparticles synergistically enhanced UV–vis absorption characteristics while effectively suppressing photogenerated electron-hole recombination, as evidenced by photoelectrochemical analyses including transient photocurrent response and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The optimized Au NPs /In 2 O 3 hybrid demonstrated exceptional photocatalytic performance, achieving 99.0 % degradation efficiency for both ofloxacin and tetracycline antibiotics under visible-light irradiation, along with remarkable cycling stability (>90 % efficiency retention after three cycles) and practical applicability across varied water matrices. Mechanistic investigations through radical trapping experiments identified the predominant roles of hole (h + ) and superoxide radical (·O 2 − ) species in the multi-pathway degradation processes. This study not only provides an effective strategy for engineering plasmon-enhanced In 2 O 3 photocatalysts but also establishes a methodological framework for developing multifunctional catalytic systems for environmental remediation.

The metal promoted In 2 O 3 catalysts for CO 2 hydrogenation to methanol have attracted wide attention because of their high activity with high methanol selectivity. However, there was still no experimental confirmation if copper could be a good promoter for In 2 O 3 . Herein, the Cu promoted In 2 O 3 catalyst was prepared using a deposition-precipitation method. Such prepared Cu/In 2 O 3 catalyst shows significantly higher CO 2 conversion and space time yield (STY) of methanol, compared to the un-promoted In 2 O 3 catalyst. The loading of Cu facilitates the activation of both H 2 and CO 2 with the interface between the Cu cluster and defective In 2 O 3 as the active site. The Cu/In 2 O 3 catalyst takes the CO hydrogenation pathway for methanol synthesis from CO 2 hydrogenation. It exhibits a unique size effect on the CO adsorption. At temperatures below 250 °C, CO adsorption on Cu/In 2 O 3 is stronger than that on In 2 O 3 , causing higher methanol selectivity. With increasing temperatures, the Cu catalyst aggregates, which leads to the formation of weak CO adsorption site and causes a decrease in the methanol selectivity. Compared with other metal promoted In 2 O 3 catalysts, it can be concluded that the catalyst with stronger CO adsorption possesses higher methanol selectivity.

Multiple products are typically formed during CO 2 hydrogenation over oxide-supported metal catalysts, making the regulation of product selectivity both practically and fundamentally important. In this work, a silver-promoted In 2 O 3 catalyst (Ag/In 2 O 3 ) was synthesized using a deposition-precipitation method and employed as a model system to elucidate the pressure-dependent reactivity of the catalyst in CO 2 hydrogenation. A strong electronic metal-support interaction (EMSI) between Ag and defective In 2 O 3 (In 2 O 3-x ) is identified, which promotes the formation of catalytically active Ag-In 2 O 3-x interfacial sites. The Ag/In 2 O 3 catalyst exhibits a 100% CO selectivity at 0.1 MPa, while achieving high methanol selectivity at 5 MPa within the temperature range investigated. Kinetic analysis reveals that CO formation and methanol synthesis share the same active sites. Combined in situ catalyst characterization and theoretical calculations demonstrate that elevated pressure enhances CO adsorption and stabilizes surface CO*, thereby promoting the further hydrogenation of CO* to CH 3 O* and ultimately leading to high methanol selectivity. This work provides mechanistic insights into pressure-controlled selectivity in catalytic CO 2 hydrogenation and offers a promising strategy for tuning product distribution via the change in the pressure.

Hydrogen energy is associated with notable safety concerns due to its inherent characteristics, such as flammability, low explosive limit, and high diffusivity. Reliable detection is therefore necessary throughout its production and use. Although metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) sensors, such as indium oxide (In 2 O 3 ), have the potential to sense hydrogen (H 2 ), they suffer from limitations in sensitivity, selectivity, and limit of detection. Noble metal nanoparticle modification improves MOS performance. However, high cost and low atom utilization hinder practical application. This work overcomes these limitations by synthesizing mesoporous, nanorod-like In 2 O 3 loaded with an ultra-low content (0.068 wt%) of single-atom gold (Au 1 /In 2 O 3 ) via co-precipitation. The Au 1 /In 2 O 3 sensor demonstrates advanced H 2 sensing performance at 200 °C, with a response value (Ra/Rg) of 31–10 ppm of H 2 . This represents a 7.2-fold improvement compared to pure In 2 O 3 . In addition, the Au 1 /In 2 O 3 sensor exhibits a reliable linear detection range, an ultra-low detection limit (0.025 ppm), favorable selectivity, repeatability, and long-term stability. These superior characteristics are attributed to the modification of single-atom Au, which leads to synergistic effects, including electronic sensitization, catalytic hydrogen activation, and increased oxygen vacancies. This provides a cost-effective, high-performance solution for detecting hydrogen at the critical demands of emerging hydrogen-based energy systems.

In 2 O 3 and 2.5-10 at% Al-doped In 2 O 3 are prepared through a simple solvothermal method, and samples are characterized by a variety of methods to investigate the phase and morphological properties. The gas sensing measurements reveal that Al-doped In 2 O 3 has superior ethyl acetate sensing capability as compared to pure In 2 O 3 , with the maximum response value approaching 56.3–100 ppm ethyl acetate at 184 °C, which is about 2.34 times higher than pure In 2 O 3 . In addition, 5 at% Al-doped In 2 O 3 gas sensor is also found to have lower detection limit and better selectivity to ethyl acetate. Hence, Al-doped In 2 O 3 material can be promising for sensing ethyl acetate gas with high performance. Also, the mechanism involved in improving sensing performance of Al-doped In 2 O 3 is discussed.

Detecting the trace ppb level of formaldehyde (HCHO) in indoor ambient and human exhaled breath using a metal oxide semiconductor gas sensor has attracted increasing attention. A hybrid nanostructure consisting of In2O3 nanoparticles grown on a Au nanocage (NC) surface was synthesized using a one-step solvothermal method, which was then used to be fabricated as HCHO sensors. The 0.5 wt % Au NC/In2O3 sensor featured an ultrahigh response of 8.8 for 1 ppm of HCHO at a low operating temperature (145 °C), which was nearly 2.5 times higher than that of the pure In2O3 sensor. Furthermore, it possessed outstanding selectivity and a low detection limit (25 ppb) toward HCHO. This excellent sensing property was possibly due to the increase in chemisorbed oxygens on its surface due to the Au NC spillover mechanism, an enhanced adsorption capability for HCHO because of the phase transition from cubic to rhombohedral In2O3, good gas diffusion, and a large surface area with a Au NC/In2O3 3D hierarchical structure, as well as the widened electron depletion layer derived from the Schottky barriers and homojunctions between the components of Au NC/In2O3.

In this study, we synthesized a convenient and efficient composite photocatalyst, In 2 O 3 /Co 3 O 4 from the pyrolysis of Co-doped MIL-68(In). Structural characterization indicates that the composite material exhibited a rod-like hollow structure, thus increasing the specific surface area. Meanwhile, In 2 O 3 /Co 3 O 4 forms a PN heterojunction, which reduces the recombination rate of photogenerated hole-electron pairs. Moreover, the visible light absorption ability of this material is enhanced and it has good catalytic properties. Under visible light, the removal rate of tetracycline (TC) reaches 94% by the In 2 O 3 /Co 3 O 4 in 90 min, and the reaction constant is 0.02393 min −1 , which is 6.86 and 5.56 times of the single component In 2 O 3 and Co 3 O 4 , respectively. As shown by free radical quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) test, h + and •O 2 − play an important role in degrading TC into small molecule intermediates in the catalytic process.

To address the challenges of titanium dioxide's low utilization of visible light, easy recombination of photogenerated charges, and insufficient interfacial contact when integrated with other semiconductors to form heterojunctions, a novel, simple, and easy hybrid MOF template-directed method was developed to enhance the interaction between oxide and support, thereby constructing In 2 O 3 @TiO 2 - x (IT- x ) composites with tightly contacted heterojunction interfaces. After 120 minutes of exposure to visible light, the IT-30% realized a 91.98% degradation rate for tetracycline in wastewater with an initial concentration of 30 mg/L, which is 1.46, 3.39, and 2.07 times higher than that of bare TiO 2 , bare In 2 O 3 , and Degussa-P25, respectively. After 5 cycles (10 h), the IT-30% photocatalyst still maintained high photocatalytic activity with a 14.47% decline in tetracycline degradation efficiency. The experiments on free radical trapping and electromagnetic spin resonance (ESR) revealed that the superoxide radical is the primary active substance in the tetracycline photocatalytic degradation. SEM, HRTEM, and XRD characterization techniques were utilized to demonstrate the successful preparation of hollow composites. The results of BET, UV-Vis DRS, XPS, photoluminescence (PL), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) indicate that the high photocatalytic activity of the prepared IT-30% composite is ascribed to its large specific surface area, strong capacity for visible light absorption, generate abundant oxygen vacancies generated in the composites, and efficient separation and migration of photogenerated carriers. In addition, a possible degradation pathway for tetracycline was proposed according to the HPLC-MS test results of intermediate products.

Neuromorphic devices that mimic the information processing function of biological synapses and neurons have attracted considerable attention due to their potential applications in brain-like perception and computing. In this paper, neuromorphic transistors with W-doped In2O3 nanofibers as the channel layers are fabricated and optoelectronic synergistic synaptic plasticity is also investigated. Such nanofiber transistors can be used to emulate some biological synaptic functions, including excitatory postsynaptic current (EPSC), long-term potentiation (LTP), and depression (LTD). Moreover, the synaptic plasticity of the nanofiber transistor can be synergistically modulated by light pulse and electrical pulse. At last, pulsed light learning and pulsed electrical forgetting behaviors were emulated in 5 × 5 nanofiber device array. Our results provide new insights into the development of nanofiber optoelectronic neuromorphic devices with synergistic synaptic plasticity.

Cobalt tetraoxide (Co3O4) holds great potential for enzymeless glucose detection due to its strong redox capabilities. However, its poor electrical conductivity limits the charge transfer and hence weakens its catalytic activity when utilized as an electrode in electrochemical sensors, such as an enzymeless glucose sensor. In this study, we developed an indium oxide (In2O3)-wrapped Co3O4 nanofibers (Co3O4@In2O3 NFs)-based electrochemical sensor for the enzymeless detection of glucose, with an ultra-low limit of detection (LoD) of 8.85 nM (S/N = 3), a wide detection range from 10 nM to 118 μM, and a high sensitivity of 1197.5 μA mM−1 cm−2. In addition, this sensor exhibits good selectivity, reproducibility, and long-term stability for over 30 days. The sensing performance of bare Co3O4 NFs towards glucose has been significantly enhanced by incorporating them within highly conductive In2O3, which is mainly attributed to the synergistic combination of the electrocatalytic activity of Co3O4 NFs, as the delicately designed core, and the excellent conductivity of In2O3, as the shell. Thus, this novel modified Co3O4@In2O3 NFs electrochemical composite has huge potential to be further developed for enzymeless glucose analysis in practical clinical settings.

In2O3has high electron mobility, strong affinity for oxidizing gases, and abundant tunable surface oxygen species. These features enable efficient charge transfer during ozone adsorption, making In2O3a promising ozone-sensing material. However, conventional In2O3-based gas sensors still suffer from insufficient sensitivity at low ozone concentrations and slow response/recovery rates, limiting their performance for high-precision gas detection. In this study, morphology-controlled In2O3nanorods were synthesized via a glucose-assisted hydrothermal method, enabling coordinated regulation of the material structure and surface properties. Compared with conventional In2O3nanocubes, the glucose-modulated In2O3nanorods exhibited an approximately sevenfold increase in response toward 1 ppm O3, indicating markedly improved capability for detecting low-concentration ozone. In addition, the sensor demonstrated a relatively low detection limit of about 80 ppb and fast response/recovery behavior (108 s/238 s). This strategy improves gas sensing performance through morphology optimization, increased surface active sites, and enhanced electron transport, offering a feasible materials design route for high-performance ozone gas sensors and showing potential for real-time environmental ozone monitoring and related applications.
