Oxygenation membranes for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation systems require ultrathin, defect-free selective layers that simultaneously deliver high gas permeability, selectivity, and operational stability. Herein, we report a Janus composite membrane featuring a dense polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) selective layer integrated with a hydrogen-bonded organic framework (HOF-TGU-307), designed to overcome filler aggregation and transport limitations commonly encountered in ultrathin mixed-matrix membranes. A Marangoni convection-driven assembly strategy induces strong in-plane flow at the gas–liquid-solid interface, enabling uniform dispersion and horizontal embedding of HOF crystallites within the PDMS matrix. Theoretical analysis and molecular dynamics simulations confirm that Marangoni flow suppresses capillary-driven aggregation, while a stable PDMS-HOF interfacial network forms polar gas-transport pathways and promotes interfacial CO 2 enrichment. As a result, the optimized M3-HOF membrane exhibits a high single-gas CO 2 permeance of 1883 GPU and an ideal CO 2 /O 2 selectivity of 5.2, measured at 0.1 MPa and 25 °C, together with an oxygen transfer rate of 219.8 mL·min −1 ·m −2 . The Janus architecture further provides excellent interfacial stability, effectively preventing liquid penetration (LEP > 0.6 MPa). Auxiliary evaluations demonstrate reduced protein adsorption and favorable blood-contacting compatibility, supporting its potential for membrane oxygenators. This computation-guided, Marangoni-driven fabrication strategy offers a scalable route for constructing high-performance oxygenation membrane with controlled ultrathin selective layers.

Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has emerged as a research hotspot in tumor therapy due to its non-invasiveness, non-toxicity and high penetrability, as it activates sonosensitizers to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) for tumor cell ablation under ultrasound irradiation. However, its therapeutic efficacy is severely compromised by the rapid electron-hole recombination of sonosensitizers, tumor hypoxia and high intracellular glutathione (GSH) levels in the tumor microenvironment. Herein, we developed a nanoreactor AB@CZP@HO to achieve synergistic antitumor effects of SDT and hydrogen therapy. Based on carbon-doped hollow porous CZ, this material features unique carbon doping and oxygen vacancies that inhibit electron-hole recombination, thus enhancing its piezoelectric coefficient and ultrasound-induced ROS generation capacity. Pt atoms deposited on the CZ surface form CZP, whose catalase-like activity catalyzes the decomposition of intracellular hydrogen H 2 O 2 to produce O 2 , alleviating tumor hypoxia and providing more substrates for SDT. The loaded ammonia borane with high hydrogen storage capacity enables high-load intratumoral hydrogen delivery and pH-responsive release. The released H 2 disrupts the redox homeostasis and mitochondrial membrane integrity of tumor cells, synergizing with SDT. The surface-modified hyaluronic acid (HA) derivative HO depletes intratumoral GSH via affinity substitution reaction, further boosting SDT efficacy. This design integrates the rational fabrication of piezoelectric materials, tumor microenvironment remodeling and hydrogen therapy synergy, which collectively enhance the therapeutic efficacy of SDT. Statement of Significance This study aims to develop a nanoreactor (AB@CZP@HO) for highly efficient sonodynamic therapy (SDT) of tumors through the fabrication of a highly responsive piezoelectric sonosensitizer, modulation of the tumor microenvironment (TME), and synergy with hydrogen gas therapy. Hydrogen can disrupt the intracellular redox balance and impair the integrity of mitochondrial membranes, thereby enhancing the therapeutic efficacy of SDT and overcoming the limitations of SDT as a monotherapy. This multifunctional nanoreactor integrates multiple functional modules and is expected to provide a novel and effective strategy for tumor SDT, breaking through the limitations of existing therapeutic approaches. Self-charging batteries based on organic cathodes and the oxidation mechanism are intriguing because the exhausted battery can be automatically recharged to resume the electrical energy output. A consensus is that the air or dissolved oxygen in electrolyte are indispensable in the self-charging process, which makes the battery impractical due to external air supply and the electrolyte evaporation from non-sealed batteries. Furthermore, organic cathodes generally exhibit low specific capacities. Here, a new self-charging mechanism is realized by blending Pt/C nanocatalysts with poly(1,5-naphthalenediamine, NAPD) to fabricate cathodes for aqueous Zn-polymer batteries. The discharged cathode can be self-charged to 1.16 V within 8 h while being immersed in electrolyte, without the need for dissolved oxygen. This endows a fully sealed coin cell with self-charging function. Owing to the catalytic activation of primary amino groups in poly(1,5-NAPD), the specific capacity is nearly doubled, reaching a high level of 310 mAh g −1 . The role of nanocatalyst in increasing the self-charging rate and voltage is discussed in detail. To demonstrate practical applications, a battery pack is made by loading thick cathodes and Zn anodes into a 3D-printed six-compartment case. This battery pack can be self-charged to 6.4 V and is used to power a walking robot.

Solar-driven photocatalytic water splitting offers a sustainable pathway to produce green hydrogen, yet its practical application encounters several challenges including inefficient photocatalysts, sluggish water oxidation, severe reverse reactions and the necessity of separating produced hydrogen and oxygen gases. Herein, we design and develop a photocatalytic system composed of two separate reaction parts: a hydrogen evolution cell containing halide perovskite photocatalysts (MoSe 2 -loaded CH(NH 2 ) 2 PbBr 3-x I x ) and an oxygen evolution cell containing NiFe-layered double hydroxide modified BiVO 4 photocatalysts. These components are bridged by a I 3 − /I − redox couple to facilitate electron transfer, realizing efficient overall water splitting with a solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency of 2.47 ± 0.03%. Additionally, an outdoor scaled-up setup of 692.5 cm 2 achieves an average solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency of 1.21% during a week-long test under natural sunlight. By addressing major limitations inherent in conventional photocatalytic systems, such as the cooccurrence of hydrogen and oxygen in a single cell and the resultant severe reverse reactions from hydrogen and oxygen recombination, this work introduces an alternative concept for photocatalytic system design, which enhances both efficiency and practicality.

The limited narrow spectral absorption and rapid recombination of photogenerated carriers in photocatalytic materials result in inefficient molecular oxygen activation and insufficient generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), severely restricting the degradation efficiency of organic pollutants. Herein, a composite catalyst with broad visible-light responsiveness was fabricated via a facile solvothermal and room-temperature stirring strategy, where sheet-like Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 was encapsulated with W 18 O 49 nanowires. The as-prepared catalyst exhibited high concentrations of h + and O 2 − active species, achieving a 92 % degradation rate of ciprofloxacin (20 mg/L) within 60 min, alongside exceptional environmental tolerance and stability. Experimental and computational investigations confirmed the S-scheme charge transfer mechanism, which enhances carrier separation while preserving electrons and holes with strong redox capabilities. The localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect of W 18 O 49 synergistically promoted hot electrons and photogenerated electrons to activate O 2 , generating abundant O 2 − . This work proposes a novel design paradigm for efficient and stable visible-light photocatalysts, advancing solutions to emerging antibiotic pollutants in aquatic systems.

The O3-type layered oxide materials have the advantage of high specific capacity, which makes them more competitive in the practical application of cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, the existing reported O3-type layered oxide materials still have a complex irreversible phase transition phenomenon, and the cycle life of batteries needs, with these materials, to be further improved to meet the requirements. Herein, we performed structural characterization and electrochemical performance tests on O3-NaNi0.6−xFe0.25Mn0.15MgxO2(x = 0, 0.025, 0.05, and 0.075, denoted as NFM, NFM-2.5Mg, NFM-5.0Mg, and NFM-7.5Mg). The optimized NFM-2.5Mg has the largest sodium layer spacing, which can effectively enhance the transmission rate of sodium ions. Therefore, the reversible specific capacity can reach approximately 148.1 mAh g−1at 0.2C, and it can even achieve a capacity retention of 85.4% after 100 cycles at 1C, demonstrating excellent cycle stability. Moreover, at a low temperature of 0 °C, it also can keep capacity retention of 86.6% after 150 cycles at 1C. This study provides a view on the cycling performance improvement of sodium-ion layered oxide cathodes with a high theoretical specific capacity.

Producing high-purity oxygen (O 2 ) has a wide range of applications across diverse sectors, such as medicine, tunnel construction, the chemical industry, and fermentation. However, current O 2 production methods are burdened by complexity, heavy equipment, high energy consumption, and limited adaptability to harsh environments. Here, to address this grand challenge, the de novo design of Ru-doped metal hydroxide is proposed to serve as bioinspired O 2 -evolution catalysts with proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) pathway for low-energy, environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and portable O 2 generation. The comprehensive studies confirm that the lattice H species in Ru-Co(OH) x -based O 2 -evolution catalyst can trigger a PCET pathway to optimize Ru-oxygen intermediates interactions, thus ultimately reducing reaction energy barriers and improving the activities and durabilities. Consequently, the prepared Ru-Co(OH) x -loaded membrane catalysts exhibit rapid and long-term stable O 2 production capabilities. Furthermore, the proposed material design strategy of lattice H-species shows remarkable universality and adaptability to broad Ru-doped metal hydroxides. This efficient, portable, and cost-effective O 2 generation technique is suggested to ensure an uninterrupted O 2 supply during emergencies and in regions with limited O 2 availability or air pollution, thus offering significant societal benefits in broad applications.

Li-O 2 batteries are one of the most promising next generation batteries due to their high energy density . However, they suffer from high charge overpotentials and severe side reactions. Here we report a bifunctional CeVO 4 catalyst that not only lowers the charge potential by a photo-assisted mechanism, more importantly, promotes the efficient conversion of highly reactive oxidative intermediates to Li 2 O 2 , thus avoiding the oxidative decomposition of the electrolyte/cathode during discharge. Benefiting from its efficient electrocatalysis and the improved charging ability, 1.6x higher discharge capacity up to 6.14 mAh cm -2 , low charge potential of 3.48 V and stable cycling performance are simultaneously achieved. Theoretical calculation and in-situ Raman spectra confirm the superior adsorptive and conversion ability of superoxide species by electrochemical reduction and chemical disproportionation reactions on the CeVO 4 catalyst. These results indicate an effective strategy to break through the reported limitations of photo-assisted cathodes that are of a low electrocatalysis ability and limited discharge capacity. The significance of retaining a high energy density in photo-assisted Li-O 2 batteries is highlighted.

Photo-oxidative NO x removal often encountered with sluggish charge carrier separation kinetics and poor selectivity. Herein, Pd/ferroelectric Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 nanoflakes (Pd/BTO NF) were constructed to investigate the photo-excited charge separation, O 2 activation and the generated reactive oxygen species (ROS) in dictating NO removal. Results showed that the depolarization field of ferroelectric BTO NF significantly promoted bulk charge separation, leading to boosted NO removal reaction kinetics (10 times higher) for Pd/BTO NF comparing with Pd/TiO 2 . Revealed by electronic paramagnetic resonance and radical scavenging tests, it is observed that the primary O 2 activation species differed among Pd, Ag and Pt supported BTO NF photocatalysts, which resulted in different selectivity. The underlying mechanism of NO photo-oxidative conversion pathway was studied by in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy. This work illustrate that metal/ferroelectric interfaces can be tuned to obtain differing O 2 activation species, and notable selectivity changes in photocatalysis mediated environmental remediation reactions.

While copper complexes intrinsically provide Cu sites for electrocatalytic CO 2 reduction (ECR), their efficacy toward multicarbon products (C 2+ ) remains fundamentally limited by the operational instability of reactive Cu valence states and the inability to synchronously optimize *CO intermediate generation and C-C coupling within symmetric coordination environments. Herein, we judiciously design a single-crystal N, O co-coordinated copper complex (Cu(ICA) 2 ) featuring asymmetric N 2 -Cu-O 2 centers that precisely modulate the electronic structure and local adsorption environment. The Cu-N bonds stabilize partially reduced Cu δ⁺ sites while weakening Cu-O interactions, thus balancing structural integrity with catalytic reactivity. This asymmetric dual-site coordination concurrently hosts distinct *CO intermediates (atop-adsorbed *CO at Cu sites and bridge-adsorbed *CO at Cu-N sites), enabling cooperative C-C coupling into C 2 products. The catalyst achieves a record 69.2 % Faradaic efficiency for C 2 products at 400 mA cm −2 and 57.4 % for C 2 H 4 at 500 mA cm −2 in 1.0 M KOH, rivaling the state-of-the-art Cu-based complexes. In situ characterization and DFT calculations mechanistically corroborate that bridge-adsorbed *CO at Cu-N sites drives energetically favorable hydrogenation and C-C coupling pathways. This work establishes a coordination-asymmetry design principle for constructing robust molecular catalysts capable of efficient CO 2 -to-C 2+ conversion.

Tuning metal size from nanoscale to uniform single atoms holds the potential to promote the oxygenates selectivity for direct methane conversion, but suffers from low kinetics when utilizing O 2 as oxidant. Herein, we report a Au nano -Fe 1 -ZSM-5 catalyst for enhanced acetic acid production from CH 4 , CO, and O 2 in aqueous solution. The Au nano nanoparticles enable upgrading of O 2 into active hydroxyl radicals (•OH) via net reaction between O 2 , H 2 O and CO. The Fe 1 single atoms within 5-nm range from Au nano could be converted into active Fe 1 IV -O by •OH oxidation, which catalyzes rapid H-abstraction from CH 4 and subsequent C-C coupling with CO for acetic acid production. Such closely adjacent but separate active centers, i.e., Au nano and Fe 1 for decoupled O 2 and CH 4 activation, respectively, enable a high reactivity of 982 mmol/g metal /h for methane conversion with O 2 oxidant while retaining a high acetic acid selectivity of 81 % at 150 °C.

With the wide application of ternary lithium-ion batteries, the increased usage of batteries has resulted in a corresponding rise in the amount of discarded batteries. Here, we propose an efficient and prioritized lithium extraction process with a low environmental impact for the recovery of valuable metal components from spent LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 cathode materials. SO2 calcination–water leaching was used to recover Li, while H2SO4 acid leaching facilitated the recovery of Ni, Co, and Mn, yielding a precursor solution for the treatment of discarded NCM batteries. The effects of calcination temperature, calcination time, water leaching time, water leaching liquid–solid ratio, different battery ratios, acid leaching time, acid leaching liquid–solid ratio, and acid leaching temperature were optimized. The acid leaching process was controlled by surface chemical reactions through kinetic analysis. Under optimal conditions, Li was converted to soluble Li2SO4, achieving an impressive leaching rate of 99.7%. Ni, CO, and Mn were converted to their respective oxides. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that the formation of Li2Mn(SO4)2 from Mn with Li during calcination enhances the leaching efficiency across different battery composition ratios. The activation energies of Ni, Co, and Mn during the acid leaching process were determined by kinetic calculations, yielding values of 130.19, 133.05, and 134.09 kJ mol–1, respectively. This study provides a novel method for recycling spent NCM cathode materials.
