In-situ electrospun aligned and maize-like AgNPs/PVA@Ag nanofibers for surface-enhanced Raman scattering on arbitrary surface

Xiaofei Zhao,Chonghui Li,Zhen Li,Jing Yu,Jie Pan,Haipeng Si,Cheng Yang,Shouzhen Jiang,Chao Zhang,Baoyuan Man

An efficient electrospun aligned surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and maize-like substrate of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composite and Ag colloid nanofibers decorated with thermal evaporated Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) has been developed by taking advantage of electrostatic interactions. The synergistic effects of the evaporated AgNPs (niblets) and the Ag colloid in PVA (corncob) could arouse strong electromagnetic field between the lateral and vertical nanogaps which has been demonstrated by experiment and finite-different time-domain (FDTD) simulation. In this experiment, the aligned nanofibers possesses an excellent sensitivity by detection of crystal violet (CV) and malachite green (MG) molecule at low concentration. Moreover, the proposed flexible SERS sensor was measured with outstanding uniformity and reproducibility. We also carried out in-situ electrospinning on a curved surface to detect the mixture of Sudan I, CV and MG molecule, which demonstrates that flexible SERS sensor, has enormous potential in accurate and in-situ detection on the complex geometric structure.

Dual-Polymer Functionalized Melanin-AgNPs Nanocomposite with Hydroxyapatite Binding Ability to Penetrate and Retain in Biofilm Sequentially Treating Periodontitis

Bing Cao,Jian Zhang,Yingfei Ma,Yanan Wang,Yun li,Ruixue Wang,Donghai Cao,Yongzhen Yang,Ruiping Zhang

Periodontitis is the leading cause of adult tooth missing. Thorny bacterial biofilm and high reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in tissue are key elements for the periodontitis process. It is meaningful to develop an advanced therapeutic system with sequential antibacterial/ antioxidant ability to meet the overall goals of periodontitis therapy. Herein, a dual-polymer functionalized melanin-AgNPs (P/D-MNP-Ag) with biofilm penetration, hydroxyapatite binding, and sequentially treatment ability are fabricated. Polymer enriched with 2-(Dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (D), can be protonated in an acid environment with enhanced positive charge, promoting penetration in biofilm. The other polymer is rich in phosphate group (P) and can chelate Ca 2+ , promoting the polymer to adhere to the hydroxyapatite surface. Melanin has good ROS scavenging and photothermal abilities, after in situ reduction Ag, melanin-AgNPs composite has sequentially transitioned between antibacterial and antioxidative ability due to heat and acid accelerated Ag + release. The released Ag + and heat have synergistic antibacterial effects for bacterial killing. With Ag + consumption, the antioxidant ability of MNP recovers to scavenge ROS in the inflammatory area. When applied in the periodontitis model, P/D-MNP-Ag has good therapeutical effects to ablate biofilm, relieve inflammation state, and reduce alveolar bone loss. P/D-MNP-Ag with sequential treatment ability provides a reference for developing advanced oral biofilm eradication systems.

Fabrication of BSA-protected AgNPs modified MIL-53(Al) as SERS substrate for trace determination of diquat and dipterex

Xin Liu,Shiyue Niu,Bin Yang,Jia Liu,Liqian Niu,Xian Wang,Daqian Song,Shuyun Bi

Ultrasensitive Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) method for the detection of diquat/dipterex was established using bovine serum albumin (BSA)-protected silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) modified MIL-53(Al) (named as BSA/MIL-53(Al)/AgNPs). Compared with unmodified AgNPs, BSA/MIL-53(Al)/AgNPs significantly enhanced the Raman signals of diquat and dipterex and the enhancement factors (EFs) were 1.58 × 10 7 and 2.34 × 10 7 , respectively. The TEM, XRD, TGA, XPS, UV–vis and FT-IR were utilized to characterize BSA/MIL-53(Al)/AgNPs and the binding of the substrate with diquat/dipterex. The optimal measurement conditions were investigated in detail by single factor experiment and response surface model. The impacts of common pesticides and coexisting substances on the determination of diquat/dipterex were studied. Under optimum conditions, linear calibration curves for detecting diquat/dipterex were established with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.17/0.89 pmol L −1 (3 S 0 / S ). The SERS approaches were used to detect diquat and dipterex in several fruits and vegetables. The recovery was 97.10 %–104.82 % with the relative standard deviation (RSD) of 1.04 %–4.15 % ( n  = 5).

In situ construction of fibrous AgNPs/g-C3N4 aerogel toward light-driven COx-free methanol dehydrogenation at room temperature

Yuanyuan Liu,Shengyang Yang,Su-Na Yin,Ligang Feng,Yang Zang,Huaiguo Xue

Methanol has been deemed to be a favorable medium for the source of hydrogen because its liquid nature facilitates the storage, transportation, and utilization of hydrogen. Currently, steam reforming is the most common method to generate hydrogen from methanol in chemical industry and hydrogen fuel cell field. However, methanol reforming often involves high temperature and pressure, massive capital investment, as well as undesirable byproducts (CO, CO 2 , etc.) formation. To overcome these disadvantages, in this work, we describe an in situ assembly and stepwise thermal treatment method to synthesize fibrous AgNPs/g-C 3 N 4 aerogel, which exhibits efficient photocatalysis activity for the splitting of pure methanol at room temperature. Encouragingly, hydrogen is continuously produced while neither CO nor CO 2 is found in the products, which could be attributed to the moderate redox feature of silver in the AgNPs/g-C 3 N 4 aerogel. More importantly, this CO x -free hydrogen evolution process can prevent the poisoning of catalysts, opening a new opportunity for developing low-carbon chemistry.

Electrochemical aptamer sensor based on AgNPs@PDANSs and “sandwich” structure guidance for the detection of tobramycin in water samples

Ke Zhao,Xinyue Ma,Meng Wang,Zhengquan Qu,Hongxia Chen,Baoshan He,Hanyu Chen,Baozhong Zhang

In this study, an ultrasensitive detection platform for tobramycin (TOB) was developed, featuring a “sandwich” structure guided by AgNCs@PDANSs and Thi-AuNCs@ZnONSs. To address the issue of large background current peak signals in tagless sensors, Thi-AuNCs@ZnONSs composites were synthesized as signal tags. Zinc oxide nanosheets (ZnONSs) served as the loading agent, and AuNCs with the electroactive molecule Thi acted as carriers. Furthermore, AgNPs@PDANSs nanocomposites, possessing excellent electrical conductivity and large specific surface areas, were prepared as substrate materials for the modified electrodes. A “sandwich” structure strategy was also introduced to enhance the accuracy of the electrochemical aptasensor. This strategy, utilizing a dual sequence for target labeling and capture, yielded higher sensitivity and simplified the sensor construction compared to methods employing a single sequence. Under optimal conditions, the detection limit for TOB was established at 1.41 pM, with a detection range of 0.05–5000 nM. The aptasensor was effectively applied in the detection of TOB in tap and lake water, demonstrating outstanding reproducibility, selectivity, and stability. These results may serve as a reference for environmental TOB detection.

AgNPs/CuNPs/Bragg-PSi substrate subjected to thermal annealing in high-sensitivity detection on crystal violets and diphenyl phthalate

Bowen Sun,Peng Li,Shuguo Yu,Xiaohui Huang,Liangjun Ma

This study has successfully prepared three kinds of surface enhanced raman scattering (SERS) substrates, namely AgNP/CuNPs/Bragg-PSi (porous silicon, PSi), AgNPs/CuNPs/PSi and AuNPs/CuNPs/Bragg-PSi by use of an anode electrochemical etching method and a dip plating method. Results show that: the AgNPs/CuNPs/Bragg-PSi substrate has optimal SERS performance and is capable of detecting the Raman spectrum (R2 = 0.9315) of a 10−5 M–10−11 M crystal violet (CV) solution. By virtue of optimizing the concentration of copper nitrate for soaking the AgNPs/CuNPs/Bragg-PSi substrate and the annealing temperature for the AgNPs/CuNPs/Bragg-PSi substrate, this study has explored the influence of different preparation conditions on the performances of the substrate. Results show that: the optimal soaking concentration of the copper nitrate solution is 0.75 M, and the AgNPs/CuNPs/Bragg-PSi substrate annealed at 180 °C shows a more uniform microscopic structure and a stronger surface-enhanced effect. Finally, the annealed AgNPs/CuNPs/Bragg-PSi substrate is capable of realizing the high-sensitivity detection (R2 = 0.9898) on diphenyl phthalate within a concentration range of 10−3 M to 10−9 M. The AgNPs/CuNPs/Bragg-PSi substrate has the advantages of easiness and convenience in preparation, low cost, high sensitivity and the like, thus providing a broad prospect for application of SERS technology in the fields of chemical analysis and biological analysis and laying a foundation for developing more sensitive and reliable detection methods.

Lanqing Yang,Xiaomin Wang,Xu Jing,Baoqing Bai,Tao Bo,Jinhua Zhang,Ligang Yu,Hailong Qian,Ying Gu,Yukun Yang

Escherichia coli O157:H7 ( E. coli O157:H7 ) emerges as a foodborne pathogen, emphasizing the imperative for creating precise detection tools. An ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescence/fluorescence (ECL/FL) dual-signal mode aptasensor was constructed for the detection of E. coli O157:H7 . Ultrafine silver nanoparticles were loaded on the surface of hydrogen-bonded organic skeleton materials by in-situ photoreduction method, and then combined with aptamers that can identify specific targets to prepare HOF-101@AgNPs@Apt, greatly simplifying the ECL/FL dual-signal mode probe fabrication process and improving sensing reliability. HOF-101@AgNPs@Apt had both strong ECL luminescence and fluorescence, resulting in a high detection sensitivity. The low limit of detection (LOD) for ECL and FL were 0.48 CFU mL −1 and 2.39 CFU mL −1 , respectively. Moreover, the proposed dual-signal mode aptasensor has been successfully applied to determine E. coli O157:H7 levels in tap water and milk with superior accuracy and high antiinterference capability, providing a promising method for food safety monitoring.

Qian Liu,Xiaoying Yang,Longhui Luo,Wei Tian,Chao Kang,Tao Sun,Yuegang Chen,Juan Tao,Dongmei Chen

Benzimidazole fungicides are widely used in agriculture, and residues in food will threaten public health and safety. In this study, MXene@PEI@AgNPs composites were successfully constructed by electrostatic self-assembly method using polyethyleneimine (PEI) as a linker and used as a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) active substrate. The material combines the electromagnetic enhancement of silver nanoparticles and the chemical enhancement mechanism of MXene, showing excellent SERS performance. The experimental results show that the SERS substrate has excellent enhancement performance and successfully obtains the characteristic spectra of six target fungicides. After that, it was combined with chemometrics methods, through principal component analysis (PCA), it was found that the SERS spectra of different fungicides showed obvious clustering distribution. The constructed support vector machine (SVM) classification model shows excellent prediction performance, with an accuracy rate of 100 %. In terms of quantitative analysis, the method showed good sensitivity, and the detection recoveries of benzimidazole fungicides in actual samples such as kiwifruit, tomato and citrus were 81.62 % −113.87 %. Finally, in order to verify the reliability of the method, the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was used for comparative verification. The results showed that the two methods had good consistency.

Plasmonic AgNPs Reinforced Flexible Stainless Steel Mesh SERS Sensor for In Situ Detection of Methylene Blue on Curved Samples

Yiruo Zhang,Changguo Xue,Mengyu Xu,Ziyu Zhou,Congyu Zuo,Sheng Zhang

A stainless steel mesh loaded with silver nanoparticles (SSM/Ag) was developed as a low-cost and high-performance flexible surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrate for residual detection of methylene blue (MB) on curved samples. The sensor's performance was systematically investigated using rhodamine 6G (R6G) as a target molecule. The SSM/Ag substrate showed a limit of detection (LOD) of 10 −8 M and an enhancement factor (EF) of 1.4 × 10 6 . The experiment also utilized the SSM/Ag substrate to detect MB residues by wiping Alternanthera philoxeroides leaves, immersing river water samples, and performing in situ detection of the delivery label on the cup body. The results showed that the limits of detection (LODs) for these three cases were 10 −6 , 10 −7 , and 10 −7 M, respectively, exhibiting a reproducibility relative standard deviation (RSD) below 12%. This provides strong evidence for the validity and feasibility of the SSM/Ag substrate for in situ detection of MB residues on curved samples.

Colorimetric detection of citric acid as the biomarker for urolithiasis based on sodium dodecylsulfate-AgNPs with a portable CD-spectrometer

Shuqi Zhou,Liubing Kong,Xinyi Wang,Tao Liang,Hao Wan,Ping Wang

Citric acid (CA) has been considered as a biomarker of urolithiasis due to its vital suppression role in urinary stone formation. Most analytical methods for detecting CA are complicated and require expensive equipment. Herein, a colorimetric method based on sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) modified AgNPs was presented for convenient and portable detection of CA in urine. By detecting the absorption of the solution color, the quantitative detection of CA can be achieved. The pH value of SDS-AgNPs, concentration of Al 3+ and incubation time were optimized. Under optimal conditions, the method has the detection range of 1–10 mg/L, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.21 mg/L. Moreover, a self-developed portable CD(Compact Disk)-spectrometer (CDs) was established for detecting CA with a LOD of 0.49 mg/L featuring high simplicity, low time cost and good portability. This method was also validated with good selectivity to CA. In addition, the artificial urine samples were also detected to verify the capability of the method and CDs. The results validated that the method integrating with the CDs can be a promising platform for citric acid detection that can be further used for early screening and prognostic monitoring of urolithiasis.

Simultaneous Electrochemical Determination of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons Based on Layered Double Hydroxide-Derived Carbon/rGO@AgNPs Composite in Herbal Medicine

Haijun Huang,Yili Li,An Liu,Ranxin Gui,Qin Shu,Bao Yu,Chuan Jing,Weiguo Cao

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are high-risk, persistent organic pollutants that exhibit carcinogenic, teratogenic, and mutagenic effects. These compounds readily form and accumulate during cultivation, processing, and storage of herbal medicines. Therefore, it is significant for enhancing the quality control of herbal medicine by developing effective determination methods. In this study, a composite material was synthesized based on layered double hydroxide-derived carbon (LDC) and silver nanoparticle-doped reduced graphene oxide (rGO@AgNPs). The composite has been successfully applied in the simultaneous electrochemical sensing of benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) and phenanthrene (PHE). The morphological and structural properties of the material were characterized by using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) techniques. The LDC-rGO@AgNP-based sensor demonstrated exceptional performance in 0.1 M Mg(ClO4)2/acetonitrile aqueous solution, exhibiting wide linear ranges (2–256 μM for both analytes), low detection limits (0.72 μM for BaP and 0.82 μM for PHE), significant anti-interference capability against common interferents, along with good reproducibility and stability. The practical applicability of this sensor was demonstrated through the standard addition method in Coptis chinensis samples, thereby establishing an electrochemical sensing platform for robust monitoring of PAH contaminants in herbal medicines.

AgNPs@cellulose reinforced gelatin/dialdehyde alginate photothermal composite film with enhanced barrier, antioxidant and antibacterial performance for perishable food preservation

Fangfei Sun,Bingzhen Liu,Yongshi Li,Junxian Yang,Lincai Peng,Hui Li

The widespread use of petroleum-based plastics has raised increasing environmental concerns, driving the demand for biodegradable alternatives. In this study, a multifunctional bio-based composite film was developed via cross-linking of fish scale gelatin (FSG) and dialdehyde alginate (DAA), with AgNPs-loaded pomelo peel cellulose (AgNPs@PC) incorporated as an active filler. The synergistic effect of FSG/DAA cross-linking and AgNPs@PC reinforcement enhanced intermolecular interactions and formed a compact network, resulting in remarkable improvement in UV blocking (shielding rate > 90%), mechanical properties (tensile strength increased by 168.62%), gas barrier (water vapor and oxygen decreased by 61.67% and 65.36%, respectively), and thermal stability. Moreover, the composite film displayed excellent antioxidant (radical scavenging rate > 90%) and antibacterial efficiencies exceeding 99% against S. aureus and E. coli , attributed to the synergistic effects of AgNPs-mediated antibacterial activity and NIR-triggered photothermal inactivation. Soil burial and migration tests further confirmed the film's rapid biodegradability within 14 days and its compliance with food-contact safety standards. Packaging tests demonstrated its effectiveness in maintaining the post-harvest quality of strawberries and preserving the freshness of pork. Overall, this work provides a green strategy for developing multifunctional active films and demonstrates their strong potential for preserving perishable foods and extending shelf life.
