Metal halide perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) hold great promise for light-emitting diodes (LEDs) due to their high photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQY), tunable colors, and low-cost solution processability. However, their electroluminescence efficiencies are currently limited by the small size of the PNCs and the weak binding between ligands and PNCs. The small size makes PNCs sensitive to environmental factors due to their large specific surface area, leading to a loss of PLQY during post-treatment. Additionally, the weak binding between ligands and PNCs causes the ligands to detach during post-treatment, further reducing PLQY. To address these challenges, an in situ ligand-capped synthesis method is introduced for PNCs, replacing the aliphatic solvent octadecene (ODE) with trioctylphosphine (TOP). The presence of TOP increases the concentration of monomers, accelerating nucleation and crystal growth, enabling the production of cubic PNCs ranging from 8 nm to over 28 nm. Moreover, TOP acts as a ligand to resurface PNCs, enhancing their stability and maintaining high PLQY after post-treatment. As a result, by utilizing these larger PNCs, a high maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 21.23% in LEDs is achieved. This method provides a significant advancement in the development of high-performance PNC-based LEDs.

Time based dynamic fluorescence encryption and anti-counterfeiting has seized great attention for advanced information security. However, it remains a great challenge to develop tunable multicolor photoluminescent systems with low cost, facile fabrication, mass processability and convenient authentication. Herein, we have developed a dynamic anti-counterfeiting and encryption strategy based on multicolor emission system resulted by core–shell structure transformation of CsPbI 3 perovskite quantum dots (PQDs). Tunable multicolor emissions, including red, orange, yellow, and green emissions, could be easily achieved by controlling halide exchanges between hexabromocyclododecanes and CsPbI 3 PQDs under 254 nm UV irradiation. Based on this feature, 4D codes time dependent Snapchat-type information encryption system has been successfully developed, showing multiple pieces of information on a time scale, and the correct information can be identified only at a specified time. After excessive ultraviolet irradiation, the color will be unified into green, and the coding information will be erased. This work provides an inspiring point for the design of information encryption materials with higher security requirements.

CsPbI 3 perovskite quantum dots demonstrate tremendous potential in display and lighting technologies due to their excellent luminescent properties. However, conventional synthesis methods typically involve toxic reagents and complex procedures, which not only pose severe safety and environmental risks but also present long-term, serious challenges to the stability of the resulting products. Developing efficient and convenient synthesis strategies to achieve controllable preparation of high-quality red perovskite quantum dots represents a significant research direction in this field. Based on the concept of green synthesis, this study develops a spray-drying method using only water as the solvent to prepare CsPbI 3 perovskite quantum dots. In this method, CsPbI 3 perovskite quantum dots crystallize directly within KI, which not only achieves effective isolation from the external environment but also provides an iodine-rich atmosphere. Meanwhile, it effectively suppresses agglomeration of quantum dots, thereby enabling a rapid one-step synthesis of highly stable perovskite quantum dots. The prepared CsPbI 3 quantum dot crystals exhibit excellent performance, with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of merely 43 nm. Thanks to the protection of the KI matrix, the obtained powder exhibits excellent phase stability in air, along with good redispersibility, facilitating its incorporation into ink systems. We have successfully applied it to patterned fluorescent anti-counterfeiting labels and further integrated it with blue GaN chips to fabricate red light-emitting diode (pc-LED) prototype devices with high brightness and color purity. The successful implementation of this method has significantly advanced its practical application in optoelectronic devices such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and wide-color-gamut displays.

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have developed rapidly in the past 10 years. However, they are faced with a huge challenge for stability improvement because of the volatile organic components in the light absorption and hole transporting layer. Herein, we fabricate all-inorganic PSCs with the structure of FTO/c-TiO2/m-TiO2/CsPbI3 quantum dots (QDs)/Cu12Sb4S13 QDs/Au to improve device stability. To enhance the photovoltaic performance of PSCs, the surface oleylamine ligands of Cu12Sb4S13 QDs with 3-mercaptopropionic acid are exchanged, as the enhanced electronic coupling and reduced band gap are realized after the ligands exchange. Cu12Sb4S13 QD based PSCs exhibit a PCE of 10.02%, approaching that of the spiro-MeOTAD based PSCs (12.14%). A high short-circuit current density of 18.28 mA cm–2 is achieved because of the enhanced light absorption and excellent hole extraction ability of Cu12Sb4S13 QDs. Moreover, Cu12Sb4S13 QD based PSCs exhibit the improved long-term stability and retain 94% of their initial PCE after storage in ambient air for 360 h.

Broadband photodetectors (PDs) spanning the ultraviolet to short-wavelength infrared (UV-SWIR) spectrum are highly desirable for diverse applications including environmental monitoring, biomedical imaging, and industrial inspection. However, achieving high responsivity and fast response across such a wide spectral range remains a significant challenge, often limited by the narrow bandgap absorption of single materials or inefficient carrier collection in conventional device architectures. To address this problem, we designed and fabricated a novel heterojunction photodetector based on CsPbI 3 perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) and In 0.53 Ga 0.47 As layer . The core innovation lies in the engineered band alignment at the heterojunction interface, which facilitates exceptionally efficient charge transfer and separation. Compared to the bare CsPbI 3 PQDs (UV–visible) or In 0.53 Ga 0.47 As PDs (SWIR), this CsPbI 3 /In 0.53 Ga 0.47 As heterojunction PDs not only obtained the detection wavelength from UV to SWIR, but also improve the photocurrent across the entire range. Furthermore, the CsPbI 3 PQDs/In 0.53 Ga 0.47 As heterojunction PDs demonstrate outstanding detectivity of above 10 10 Jones. Meanwhile, the PDs also demonstrate significantly long-term stability, and the photocurrent of the device maintains 96.5 % of the initial one after 10000 cycles. This work demonstrates the pivotal role of efficient interfacial charge transfer in heterojunctions and provides a promising strategy for developing next-generation optoelectronic devices covering the UV-SWIR window.

All-inorganic lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) emerge as a rising star in photovoltaic fields on account of their excellent optoelectronic properties. However, it still remains challenging to further promote photovoltaic efficiency due to the susceptible surface and inevitable vacancies. Here, this work reports a 3D/2D core/shell perovskite heterojunction based on CsPbI 3 NCs and its performance in solar cells. The guanidinium (GA + ) rich 2D nanoshells can significantly passivate surface trap states and lower the capping ligand density, resulting in improved photoelectric properties and carrier transport and diminished nonradiative recombination centers via the hydrogen bonds from amino groups in GA + ions. Consequently, an outstanding power conversion efficiency (PCE) of up to 15.53% is realized, substantially higher than the control device (13.77%). This work highlights the importance of surface chemistry and offers a feasible avenue to achieve high-performance perovskite NCs-based optoelectronic devices.

Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) of chiral perovskite nanocrystals is crucial for applications such as spin-polarized light-emitting diodes and chiral photodetectors. However, the reported luminescence dissymmetry factors are often too low for practical applications; it is also important for CPL wavelengths to cover the red emission range for display applications. Herein, we realized helical perovskite nanowires self-assembled from red-emitting CsPbI3 quantum dots (QDs) with a strong CPL signal around 640 nm, which was enabled by chiral ligand R-/S-binaphthyl phosphoric acid. The formation of CsPbI3 nanowires from perovskite QDs occurred by oriented attachment; QDs remaining in solution attached at the surface of the nanowires, forming helical structures. The films produced from these chiral nanowires demonstrate high dissymmetry factors of 1.1 × 10–2 and 2.3 × 10–2 for absorption and luminescence, respectively, surpassing many previously reported chiral nanomaterials. We employed multilayer nanowire films as chiral filters, generating left- and right-handed CPL.

All-inorganic CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) quantum dots (QDs) are promising materials for light-emitting diodes (LEDs), but the long insulating ligands such as oleic acid (OA) and oleylamine (OLA) on the QD surface limit the device performances. They reduce the electrical conductivity of QDs, while their loss deteriorates the photoluminescence and stability. To overcome these issues, octylphosphonic acid (OPA) with a shorter carbon chain was added in the synthesis of perovskite QDs to partially replace OA ligands. Owing to the strong interaction between OPA and Pb atoms, the undercoordinated Pb atoms on the surface of CsPbI 3 QDs can be effectively passivated by OPA, leading to improved fluorescence quantum efficiency (close to unity) and solution stability. Furthermore, the electrical conductivity of QD films was also enhanced from 5.3 × 10 −4 to 1.1 × 10 −3 S/m by using shorter chain OPA ligands. Finally, highly efficient red perovskite QD LEDs with peak external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 12.6% and maximum luminance of 10171 cd m −2 were achieved in a top-emitting device structure, a nearly 3-fold enhancement in luminance compared with pristine CsPbI 3 QDs based LEDs.

Cubic phase CsPbI3 quantum dots (α-CsPbI3 QDs) as a newly emerging type of semiconducting QDs hold tremendous promise for fundamental research and optoelectronic device applications. However, stable and sub-5 nm-sized α-CsPbI3 QDs have rarely been demonstrated so far due to their highly labile ionic structure and low phase stability. Here, we report a novel strontium-substitution along with iodide passivation strategy to stabilize the cubic phase of CsPbI3, achieving the facile synthesis of α-CsPbI3 QDs with a series of controllable sizes down to sub-5 nm. We demonstrate that the incorporation of strontium ions can significantly increase the formation energies of α-CsPbI3 QDs and hence reduce the structure distortion to stabilize the cubic phase at the few-nanometer size. The size ranging from 15 down to sub-5 nm of as-prepared stable α-CsPbI3 QDs allowed us to investigate their unique size-dependent optical properties. Strikingly, the few-nanometer-sized α-CsPbI3 QDs turned out to retain high photoluminescence and highly close packing in solid state thin films, and the fabricated red light emitting diodes exhibited high brightness (1250 cd m–2 at 9.2 V) and good operational stability (L50 > 2 h driven by 6 V). The developed cation-substitution strategy will provide an alternative method to prepare uniform and finely size-controlled colloidal lead halide perovskite QDs for various optoelectronic applications.

Development of high-performance and stable pure red perovskite light-emitting devices (LEDs) promotes commercialization of perovskite. Benefiting from the quantum confinement effect, pure red CsPbI 3 quantum dots (QDs) can avoid the color drift issue for mixed halide systems. Herein, a facile temperature-dependent hot-injection method combined with low temperature gradient centrifugation is employed to prepare 5.60 ± 0.05 nm pure red QDs. The QDs exhibit 642 nm photoluminescence (PL) with 37 nm full width at half maximum, and their Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates located at (0.708, 0.292) match well with standard pure red for Rec. 2020. The PL half-lifetime for pure red QDs solution is 210 days under ambient conditions, and both the X and Y coordinates of CIE only fluctuate within (0.002, 0.002). Finally, a simple NH 4 I post-treatment to decrease ligand length further boosts the QDs conductivity, and the pure red LED exhibits 9.4% maximum external quantum efficiency. The electroluminescence spectra exhibits a sharp peak at 645 nm, and their CIE coordinates are located at (0.707, 0.290). Furthermore, the pure red LED exhibits both good working and color stability. Its half-lifetime is 25.1 min and color drifts are only (0.002, 0.002) after 30.0 min of continuous working at 60 cd m −2 with a constant current density of 3.5 mA cm −2 .

In this study, a water-soluble perovskite quantum dot (PQDs) based on CsPbI 3 "on-off-on" fluorescent probe was successfully constructed. The probe exhibits red fluorescence emission at 660 nm under 465 nm excitation, and the response mechanism of Cu 2+ -induced fluorescence quenching (OFF) and D-penicillamine (D-PA) triggered fluorescence recovery (ON) is realized. In addition, the dual target detection platform of both copper ions (Cu 2+ ) and D-PA was established. Quantitative analysis showed that the detection linearity range was 0.5–15 μM (LOD = 0.21 μM) for Cu 2+ and 0.4–60 μM (LOD = 16.7 nM) for D-PA. Meanwhile, D-PA can be semi-quantitatively measured based on the change in solution color. The fluorescent probe provides a fast response time, high sensitivity, and convenient solution for real-time detection of Cu 2+ and D-PA. And it was applied in the determination of D-PA in serum samples with satisfactory results. It is particularly noteworthy that the synthesized perovskite quantum dots exhibit excellent stability in the aqueous environment, which provides a new strategy for expanding the application of perovskite materials in the field of biomedical analysis.

Spectrally stable pure-red light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are essential for wide-gamut displays, yet halide-mixing approaches commonly suffer from spectral drift under electrical bias due to phase segregation. Here, we report a phase-distribution engineering strategy based on formation energy to achieve quasi-two-dimensional CsPbI3 perovskites possessing spectrally stable electroluminescence (EL) properties. By introducing two organic spacer cations whose corresponding n = 1 phases exhibit distinct formation energies , phenylethylammonium (PEA+) and 1-naphthyl-methylammonium (NMA+), the phase distribution of quasi-2D CsPbI3 is successfully converged into moderate-n phases, enabling efficient carrier transport and suppressed emission from other extreme-n-phases. It is further discovered that the strength of quantum confinement plays a critical role in modulating the excitonic absorption peak positions, and there exists a composition-dependent crystal growth mode, where PEA-rich films favor a more horizontal alignment of the [PbI6]4– octahedral layers, while NMA-rich films promote a more vertical alignment. Through regulating thermodynamic phase preference, crystal growth kinetics, and quantum confinement effects, the developed perovskites deliver a film photoluminescence quantum yield >60% and a pure-red PeLED with a peak EL of 645 nm, a spectral shift <1 nm, a CIE (0.693, 0.306) aligning with the Rec.2020 standards, a peak external quantum efficiency of 6.21%, and a maximum brightness of 800 cd·m–2.
