Traditional free radical polymerization has poor controllability, and traditional petroleum-based lubricant additives have adverse effects on the environment. Poly (lauryl methacrylate (LMA)-soybean oil (SBO)) (P(LMA-SBO) was synthesized using Salen-Cu(II) complex as a catalyst and azodiisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator by the Schlenk techniques. The structure of P(LMA-SBO) was characterized by infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) followed by evaluating the solidification point depression performance by the Chinese standard method GB/T 510-2018, and the wax crystal morphology was studied by optical microscopy. The results show the catalytic activity could be 22.88 × 104 g·mol−1·h−1 and the number average molecular weight (Mn) of the copolymer is 8.71 × 104 with a low dispersity (Ɖ) of 1.37 under the optimal conditions, which indicates good controllability of the polymerization. Adding 1.0%(w) P(LMA-SBO) to the lubricating oil fraction (350–500 °C) could reduce the solidification point by 15 °C. Therefore, the Salen-Cu (II) catalyst was successfully applied to the controlled polymerization of LMA and SBO. The vegetable oil-based solidification point depressant of P(LMA-SBO) could be used as a potential alternative to replace the traditional solidification point depressant in the future.

Stereolithography (SLA) is an emerging technology in three-dimensional printing that has garnered significant attention in the biomedical field due to its high printing fidelity, good biocompatibility, and high spatial resolution. Polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA) is commonly used as a photosensitive printing ink in SLA, and it possesses excellent biocompatibility, photosensitivity, processability, water solubility, and biomechanical tunability. Additionally, PEGDA exhibits unique anti-protein, platelet, and cell adhesion possibilities, making it a promising material for blood contact applications. However, cross-linking PEGDA using chain growth photopolymerization results in a high concentration of reactive functional groups, leading to high print volume shrinkage, decreased precision of the finished product, warping, deformation, and cracking. This study introduces a chemically modified methacryloylated chitosan (CSMA) as a cross-linking agent into the PEGDA ink. This strategy effectively reduces the volume shrinkage of the ink and imparts antimicrobial properties to the final product. The dual anticoagulation properties of PEGDA were achieved by loading divalent copper ion (Cu II ) into the ink, which better addresses the antimicrobial and anticoagulant needs in the physiological environment of blood. The results show that SLA printable inks based on PEGDA/CSMA/Cu II have low swelling, high print fidelity, high stability, and good cell compatibility. Furthermore, by verifying the functionality of PEGDA/CSMA/Cu II , the research shows that the bioprinting ink exhibits excellent antibacterial and anticoagulant properties, making it a promising material candidate for SLA 3D printing of blood purification, central venous catheter, and other semi-implanted blood materials. This study provides new ideas for developing multifunctional photosensitive inks in biomedical engineering.

Synthesis of 2D MOFs is often sensitive to the reaction conditions like temperature and solvent etc. Cu(II)-5-azidoisophthalate MOF (Cu(II)–5N3IP) has been synthesized at room temperature as well as under solvothermal conditions. The azide functional group remained stable during solvothermal synthesis at 85 °C. Cu(II)–5N3IP crystallized in a Kagomé-type structure. Typical Cu2 paddle-wheels are connected to each other by 5N3IP ligands in infinite 2D sheets in the (001) plane, featuring 1D infinite channels within each layer. This MOF is used for the adsorption of methylene blue (MB), rhodamine B (RhB), methyl orange (MO), and Congo red (CR). The adsorption is selective to the dimensions, shapes and ionic strengths of the dyes. Cu(II)–5N3IP exhibited adsorption rates in the order MB > CR > RhB > MO. Cu(II)–5N3IP is used as a catalyst for aerobic oxidation and Knoevenagel condensation. 3–10 mol% of Cu–5N3IP selectively catalyzes the oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde in 9–20 h at 60 °C. In Knoevenagel condensation, the reaction of both unsubstituted and substituted benzaldehydes at room temperature was observed at a very low catalyst loading of 3 mol% of MOF within a short time of 3–60 min. This 2D MOF has proved to be more efficient for dye adsorption and the catalytic applications under investigation (such as alcohol oxidation and Knoevenagel condensation) than its analogous 3D or 0D materials.

Photothermal effect produced in photothermal therapy (PTT) can not only eradicate tumors but also allow the promotion of biological and chemical reactions in tumor tissues, leading to the potential of photothermal-enhanced anti-tumor therapy with desirable outcomes. Biodegradable polydopamine (PDA) nanoparticles exhibit remarkable photothermal conversion efficiency and stability, making them ideal photothermal agents (PTAs) to achieve photothermal-enhanced anti-tumor therapy. The high affinity of PDA to metal ions provides a broad application prospect for the development of multi-functional nanoplatforms to achieve cancer therapy with high efficacy and specificity. In this work, we fabricated Cu(II)-doped mesoporous PDA nanoparticles with polyethylene glycol (PEG) modified (CMP-P), which not only possessed higher photothermal conversion efficacy than mesoporous PDA nanoparticles , but also presented distinctive self-enhanced chemodynamic (CDT) performance. CMP-P mediated CDT was predicated on catalyzing the Fenton-like reaction to generate hydroxyl radicals (·OH). Impressively, CMP-P further triggered glutathione (GSH) depletion intracellular to prevent the consumption of ·OH, and the photothermal effect further improved ·OH generation. Meanwhile, CMP-P exhibited favorable degradability, the process of which was elaborated intuitively by transmission electron microscope (TEM). CMP-P was then employed for doxorubicin (DOX) loading, and enabled the enhanced DOX release in-situ under the stimulation of photothermal effect and tumor micro-environment (TME). The lower IC 50 value of DOX/CMP-P (1.68 μg/mL) than the signal therapy suggested the superior synergistic effect of DOX/CMP-P. Meanwhile, in vivo experiments also revealed the considerably improved anti-tumor efficacy of synergistic therapy mediated by DOX/CMP-P.

This study introduces a novel approach for synthesizing a Cu(II)-based coordination polymer (CP), {[Cu(L)(4,4´-OBA)]·H 2 O}n ( 1 ), using a mixed ligand method. The CP was successfully prepared by reacting Cu(NO 3 ) 2 ·3H 2 O with the ligand 3,6-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)pyridazine in the presence of 4,4´-H 2 OBA, demonstrating an innovative synthesis strategy. Furthermore, a novel hydrogel composed of hyaluronic acid (HA) and carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) with a porous structure was developed for drug delivery purposes. This hydrogel facilitates the encapsulation of CP 1 , and enables the loading of paclitaxel onto the composite to form HA/CMCS-CP 1 @paclitaxel. In vitro cell experiments demonstrated the promising modulation of thyroid cancer biomarker genes S100A6 and ARID1A by HA/CMCS-CP 1 @paclitaxel. Finally, reinforcement learning simulations were employed to optimize novel metal–organic frameworks, underscoring the innovative contributions of this study.

Carbon dots (CDs) are efficient fluorescent probes for metal ion detection due to their high sensitivity, nontoxicity and stability, but their rich functional groups lead to simultaneous responses to multiple ions. So, how to realize highly selective detection for specific ions is still a challenging task. In this work, “bare CDs” were synthesized using the electrochemical stripping method, followed by grafting with hydroxyl and carboxyl groups following the hydrothermal method with boric acid. Transmission electron microscopy, an X-ray diffractometer, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV–visible spectrophotometers and a fluorescence spectrometer were used to characterize their morphology, surface functional groups and optical properties, respectively. The modified CDs exhibit a high sensitivity of 65% and selectivity towards Cu2+. Meanwhile, they also exhibited a short response time of less than 1 min and a good stability in terms of pH and ionic strength.

Although Cu(II)/peroxymonosulfate (PMS) process has been successfully applied to degrade varied organic contaminants in water, the slow transformation of Cu(II) to Cu(I) that works only in alkaline conditions retards the treatment efficiency of this process. In this study, a new finding was observed, that is, oxytetraczdycline (OTC) could effectively enhance the degradation of organic pollutants in Cu(II)/PMS process where it was also removed in acidic conditions. With the addition of OTC in Cu(II)/PMS system, 85.5% of rhodamine B (RhB) was degraded in 90 min at pH 4.0, which was far more than that without OTC (36.1%), and simultaneously 98.1% of OTC was eliminated. The added OTC could form OTC-Cu(II) complexes which might powerfully improve the reduction of Cu(II) to Cu(I), exerting a positive effect on the PMS activation and subsequent degradation of RhB. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experiments assisted with radical scavenging experiments and Raman spectrum detection results suggested that Cu(III) and hydroxyl radical (HO • ) were the predominant reactive species for RhB degradation, while OTC removal in this system was mainly ascribed to direct PMS oxidation. The Cu(II)/PMS process also showed a promising success on the synergistic degradation of OTC with the other four refractory organic pollutants , indicating the potential application of PMS oxidation in water treatment .

Excessive Cu(II) is a constant risk to aquatic ecosystems and human health. To date, field-deployable assays that are visual, quantitative, and recyclable are rare. Objective of the presented study is to create a bio-inspired, recyclable sensor that transduce selective Cu(II) binding to an immediate optical readout for on-site monitoring. Therefore, We engineered a photonic-crystal hydrogel from carboxymethyl Bletilla striata (“Bai Ji”) polysaccharide. We embedded a colloidal photonic lattice within the polysaccharide network. This design converts Cu(II) binding, which involves coordination and ion exchange at oxygenated groups, into a concentration-dependent blue shift in structural color. The material facilitates naked-eye screening and spectroscopic quantification of Cu(II) with an limit of detection (LOD) of 0.078 µmol∙L −1 and an adsorption capacity of 82 ± 0.1 mg∙g −1 . Mechanistic analysis (kinetics, isotherms, thermodynamics, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy(XPS)) supports cooperative coordination, ion-exchange, and van der Waals interactions between Cu(II) and the polysaccharide functional groups. The hydrogel is regenerable by mild elution and yields accurate recoveries in lake and tap water. This work demonstrates a sustainable and efficient platform for rapid, on-site Cu(II) monitoring in environmental waters.

A new eco-friendly hybrid Mg, Al-silicate adsorbent with superior adsorption properties for Cu(II) was prepared by a one-step hydrothermal process using earth-abundant low-grade palygorskite (PAL) as the starting materials and non-toxic sodium carbonate as the assistant. The structural characterizations by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), BET adsorption-desorption isotherms and Zeta potential analyses confirm that part of rod-like PAL crystals were in-situ transformed as smectite sheets, and the hybrid silicate adsorbents with rod/sheet transition formulation were formed. Under the action of alkaline, some inert Si O Si(or M) bonds were broken as –Si–O − groups, which not only make the adsorbent having extremely negative surface charge (− 46.4 mV), but also strengthen the chelating and holding capability of the adsorbent to Cu(II). The silicate adsorbent shows high adsorption capacity of 229.9 mg/g for Cu(II), which can capture 98.95% of Cu(II) from 200 mg/L of Cu(II) solution at the dosage of 2.6 g/L (only 64.5% for raw PAL). The intensified electrostatic attraction , ion-exchange, and chemical association of Si-O − surface groups with Cu(II) primarily contribute to the improved capture capability for Cu(II).

Although bio-materials are widely used for the adsorption of heavy metal ions, they have low specific surface area, slow adsorption rates, and poor selectivity. To overcome these limitations, in this study, we report a 3D-ordered macroporous ion-imprinted chitosan film (3DOM-IICF); the 3DOM-IICF coupled with a colloidal crystal template and ion imprinting (IIP) technology has been used to absorb copper ions (Cu(II)) present in water. Moreover, polystyrene (PS) micro-spheres and copper templates were added to form a three-dimensional ordered macroporous structure and ion-imprinted sites, respectively. Finally, the film was formed by drying. Adsorption experiments showed the removal of Cu(II) from the 3DOM-IICF in an aqueous solution. The 3DOM-IICF exhibited good adsorption performance under neutral conditions of pH = 7.0, and the adsorption efficiency was high. The maximum adsorption capacity of the 3DOM-IICF was 261.31 mg g−1. The adsorption processes were more consistent with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm. The 3DOM-IICF exhibits superior selective adsorption of Cu(II). Moreover, the 3DOM-IICF could be regenerated multiple times, reused as an adsorbent and maintained high adsorption capacity. This kind of imprinted template method has important significance in the selective adsorption of pollutants in bio-materials and is worthy of in-depth research.

Magnesium Hydride (MgH 2 ) is a promising hydrogen storage material but suffers from a high dehydrogenation temperature and sluggish sorption kinetics, which hinder its practical application. Accordingly, we report the use of a Cu-based metal-organic framework (HKUST-1) derived carbon material as a catalyst for optimizing the MgH 2 hydrogen storage performance. The MgH 2 containing 10 wt% HKUST-1 (denoted as MgH 2 -HKUST-1) exhibits a maximum dehydrogenation temperature of 50 °C, much lower than pure MgH 2 . Additionally, it demonstrates enhanced hydrogenation dynamics: it adsorbs 6.4 wt% H 2 within 240 s when heated to 350 °C, and even at 200 °C, it still captures 5.7 wt% H 2 in 60 min. Moreover, the dehydrogenation activation energy is 85.01 kJ per mole of H 2 , showing a marked reduction compared to pure MgH 2 . Furthermore, the excellent H 2 storage performance perhaps stems from the synergistic interaction of Cu 2+ /Cu + redox reactions, mechanochemical size effects, and in situ carbon scaffolding.

Sulfur-mediated electroreduction provides an attractive route for the concurrent decomplexation and recovery of persistent Cu(II)-EDTA; however, the intrinsic activity of sulfur sites remains poorly defined. Here, MoS 2 is employed as a model platform to delineate the role of sulfur functionalities by comparing the metallic 1T and semiconducting 2H phases. Studies reveal that sulfur sites promote a direct two-electron reduction pathway from Cu(II) to Cu(0). In the 1T phase, enhanced covalent Cu-S interactions lower the adsorption and activation barriers of Cu(II)-EDTA, while the elevated density of states at the Fermi level facilitates rapid electron transfer. Combined spectroscopic and theoretical analyses further show that sulfur vacancies and distorted octahedral coordination in 1T-MoS 2 modulate the electronic structure of sulfur sites, thereby promoting Cu extraction and lowering the decomplexation barrier. Consequently, 1T-MoS 2 achieves 99.4% Cu recovery with > 99% EDTA preservation, corresponding to an energy efficiency of 198.80 g kWh -1 (at an initial concentration of 100 mg L -1 ), outperforming 2H-MoS 2 (82.85%, 153.43 g kWh -1 ). This sulfur-mediated pathway concurrently enables stable operation over 30 cycles with high selectivity in complex matrices. Moreover, the strategy extends to other metal-EDTA systems ( e.g. , Pb(II), Cd(II)), highlighting the generality of sulfur-active electrocatalysts for coupling ligand preservation with efficient heavy-metal recovery.
