Water soluble copper sulfide (CuS) nanoparticles were synthesized using l -cysteine as the ligand. Multiple biotins were conjugated to the antibody of rabbit IgG, and the streptavidin was attached to the CuS nanoparticles. The Cu 2+ ions enclosed in the nanoparticles were used as the electron spin resonance (ESR) probes and detected with ESR spectrometer. The immunoassay reaction was resulted in the formation of the coating antibody attached to the microplate well, the detecting antibody labeled with the biotins, and the streptavidin attached to the CuS nanoparticles. After the immunoassay reaction was performed, large amount of Cu 2+ /Cu + ions inside the nanoparticles were released with the help of diethyldithiocarbamate (DDC) and the Cu 2+ -DDC complex formed. The Cu 2+ -DDC complex was extracted into n -butanol, which was used as the analytical sample. Both ESR and UV–vis signals were collected for the analytical sample. The double logarithm standard curve was well simulated with a linear regression equation. The limits of detection of the rabbit IgG were 1.76 pg/mL and 2.36 pg/mL by ESR and UV–vis method, respectively. The detection range using ESR as the detector was from 8.8 pg/mL to 500 ng/mL, covering almost 5 magnitude orders of the rabbit IgG concentrations. The rabbit serum was analyzed and the rabbit IgG concentration was found to be 7.76 mg/mL. The reproducibility of the present method was good enough with the intra-assay error within 3.4 % and the inter-assay error within 11.2 %. The spiked serum samples were analyzed and the experimental results indicated that the recoveries were from 108.2 to 113.7%.

Promotion of the photoelectric (PE) response is of great importance for improving performances of solar cells, photocatalysis and photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing. Herein, advanced CuO/Ag 2 S/CuS nanohybrids (NHs) are developed in which the CuO/Ag 2 S NHs have superior PE properties while the CuS nanoparticles own notable photothermal (PT) feature. Under illumination of 850 nm light, the CuO/Ag 2 S NHs are in-situ heated by the PT effect of CuS, which significantly facilitates carrier generation and migration, thus eventually increasing related PE response by 1.4 times with a PT contribution percentage of 34.3% to the total photocurrent. Based on this PT-promoted PE mechanism together with an enzymatic catalysis-induced Cu species regulation, a bio-friendly PEC sensing platform is established, realizing the sensitive determination of inorganic pyrophosphatase with a broad detection range from 0.05 to 35 mU ml −1 and a low detection limit of 0.02 mU ml −1 . In particular, further variable temperature tests show that this PT effect is even capable of shrinking the band gap of CuS (from ≈2.1 to ≈1.3 eV), expanding the wavelength range of adoptable excitation light, thereby being beneficial for biological applications. In comparison with other methods, promotion of PE response with PT effect has few restrictions on photoactive materials, and is therefore valuable to various PE-relevant applications.

Designing antibacterial nanomaterials with outstanding antibacterial effects has great practical significance. In this work, we developed a facile therapy tool that used CuS nanoparticles to modify graphite oxide (GO) sheets to form CuS@GO nanocomposites (NCs). At the same time, molecular dynamics simulation proved that compared with pure GO, the addition of PEG can effectively disperse GO and facilitate the enrichment of CuS on the GO surface. Then, a CuS@GO–CS hydrogel was prepared by electrostatic interaction between the CuS@GO NCs and CS hydrogel and the inherent antibacterial properties of the CS hydrogel were investigated. Meanwhile, the CuS@GO–CS hydrogel showed enhanced photothermal antibacterial properties to effectively prevent the bacteria. In vitro experiments indicated that a CS hydrogel has a certain antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli). Moreover, the CuS@GO NCs have excellent photothermal properties, and the CuS@GO NCs loaded into CS hydrogel significantly enhanced the antibacterial efficacy for S. aureus and E. coli under near-infrared (NIR) laser irradiation. Taken together, the antibacterial CuS@GO–CS hydrogel with good antibacterial properties offers significant promise as an antibacterial nanomaterial for enhanced photothermal antibacterial therapy.

A Ti3C2/CuS composite has been fabricated as a counter electrode for quantum dot-sensitized solar cells by anchoring CuS nanoparticles on Ti3C2via a facile ion-exchange method at room temperature. The accordion-like Ti3C2 is well intercalated and coated with CuS nanoparticles at the optimized ratio of Ti3C2 to CuS. Both electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and Tafel polarization measurements indicate that the composite exhibits a significantly faster electrocatalytic rate towards the polysulfide reduction than pure CuS. The quantum dot-sensitized solar cell-based composite counter electrode displays an overall power conversion efficiency of 5.11% which is 1.5 times that obtained from the CuS counter electrode. The higher power conversion efficiency benefits from the improved short-circuit current density (20.86 mA cm−2), open-circuit voltage (0.56 V) and fill factor (0.45). The enhancement of photovoltaic performance is mainly attributed to the combined advantages of the excellent conductivity of the Ti3C2 skeleton and the abundant catalytically active sites of CuS nanoparticles.

A multifunctional nanodrug, PAMAM@CuS-HA-RB/DOX, was prepared for the real time tracking and chemo-photothermal therapy of tumor cells. The CuS nanoclusters with diameter less than 10 nm could be easily ingested by tumor cells and showed good colloid stability and high photothermal conversion efficiency. The hyaluronic acid (HA) coating and rhodamine B (RB) labeling endowed the nanocomposite with low cytotoxity and real time fluorescence imaging ability. In the acidic tumor microenvironment, the doxorubicin linked via the pH-responsive hydrazone bonds was released and worked synergistically with CuS to kill the tumor cells, which showed a high chemo-photothermal therapy capacity. All these properties indicated the PAMAM@CuS-HA-RB/DOX have promising application for the therapy of cancers and tracking of nanodrugs.

In this study, the dense cloud-like structured CuS nanoparticles were successfully prepared using a simple two-step hydrothermal method. The experimental temperature was the most important factor that affected the microstructure and surface functions of CuS/C. Therefore, the CuS/C electrodes were synthesized at different temperatures (80 °C, 120 °C, and 160 °C). Subsequently, their crystallographic phase and morphologies as well as the structure of the as-prepared electrodes were analyzed in detail. The electrode prepared at 120 °C (CuS/C-120) was determined to have a perfect microstructure, high specific capacitance, and good rate performance. To further improve the electrochemical performance of this electrode, it was combined with polyaniline (PANI) to obtain a CuS/C-120@PANI electrode via the cyclic voltammetric electrodeposition method. The CuS/C-120@PANI electrode exhibits a specific capacitance of 425.53 Fg−1at a current density of 1 Ag−1and a good cycling stability of 89.86% after 3000 cycles. The perfect architecture of CuS/C-120@PANI maximizes the synergistic effect between its different components and provides abundant electrochemically reactive sites, promoting the diffusion and transfer of electrolyte ions during the electrochemical reaction processes. Detailed analysis shows that the CuS/C-120@PANI electrode has great potential for use in high-performance energy storage devices.Keywords:CuS/C-120@PANI;nanocomposites;supercapacitor;electrode material

In this work, a CuS-TiO 2 heterojunction composite was prepared by dispersedly depositing CuS nanoparticles on TiO 2 nanospheres surface with a hydrothermal method , and was then used to construct a photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor for sensitive detection of microcystin-LR (MC-LR) in aquatic environment. The energy bands of CuS nanoparticles and spherical anatase TiO 2 were well matched, which enhanced the photo-to-current conversion efficiency. The composite exhibited the enhanced visible light absorption , the improved separation of photo-generated charges, and the reduced self-aggregation of CuS nanoparticles, leading to the enhanced photocurrent response. The PEC aptasensor was constructed by immobilizing CuS-TiO 2 composite on ITO electrode with chitosan film that further covalently bound aminated aptamer. After the target, microcystin-LR (MC-LR) as an analyte model, was captured by the aptamer on the aptasensor, it could be oxidized by the photo-generated hole to impede the electron-hole recombination and further amplify the photocurrent. The PEC aptasensor showed superior analytical performance for MC-LR with a linear range of 5.0 × 10 −5 nM to 250 nM and a detection limit of 2.0 × 10 −5 nM. The detection results with the aptasensor for practical water samples indicated its promising application in environmental monitoring.

Background Photothermal therapy (PTT) has received extensive attention owing to its non-invasive nature and highly therapeutic outcomes. PTT agents and near-infrared (NIR) laser are essential elements in PTT. However, most PTT agents are composed of heavy metals, characterized by serious cytotoxicity and side effects, and NIR irradiation often damages normal tissue owing to the high dose, thus limiting the clinical application of PTT. Purpose In this regard, exploring new perspectives enabling more PTT agents to be enriched into the tumor and NIR laser irradiation decay in PTT is vital. Methods In this study, cetuximab (Ab), an anti-angiogenic antibody which targets the EGFR, was modified on CuS NPs (CuS-Ab NPs) to improve the aggregation of CuS NPs in the tumor. Results The cellular uptake data and the biodistribution results showed comparable accumulation of CuS-Ab NPs in tumor, thus decreasing the cytotoxicity and side effects in normal tissues. More importantly, the modification of Ab in CuS-Ab NPs impressively inhibited the formation and progression of tumor vessels, as demonstrated by immunohistochemistry staining. The introduction of anti-vessel treatment requires CuS-Ab NPs to provide weak PTT, which means that a small amount of laser energy is required, inevitably causing negligible damage to normal tissue. Conclusion Therefore, our tailor-made CuS-Ab NPs have promising potential in clinical applications.

Precise diagnosis of lymph node metastasis to guide lymphadenectomy is highly important for gastric cancer therapy in clinics. Though surgical dissection of regional metastatic lymph nodes remains the only way for gastric cancer therapy, the extended dissection may cause unavoidable postoperative risk of complications. It is still lack of effective method enabling the accurate removal of metastatic gastric cancer cells in lymph nodes with minimum injuries to normal tissue. Herein, we report a new fluorescent copper sulfide (CuS) nanoparticle (RGD-CuS-Cy5.5) enabling both non-invasive multimodality imaging and targeting photothermal therapy (PTT) of metastatic gastric cancer cells in lymph nodes. We demonstrate that RGD-CuS-Cy5.5 can easily drain into sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) after injection into primary tumors, and selectively enter into metastatic gastric MNK45 tumor cells via α v β 3 integrin-mediated endocytosis . The resulting strong near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence and computed tomography (CT) contrast in metastatic SLN compared to normal SLN can precisely differentiate SLN metastasis of gastric cancers. Guided by the imaging, localized PTT with RGD-CuS-Cy5.5 is conducted upon irradiation with an 808 nm laser , resulting in complete removal of metastatic gastric tumor cells in SLN without obvious toxicity. Moreover, RGD-CuS-Cy5.5 can also allow for the rapid and non-invasive self-monitoring of PTT efficacy against metastatic SLNs in living mice. This study highlights the potential of using RGD-CuS-Cy5.5 for imaging-guided and targeting PTT of SLN metastasis in vivo , which may be applicable for the metastatic gastric cancer therapy in clinics. Statement of Significance RGD-CuS-Cy5.5 nanoparticles possess NIR fluorescence and CT signals for in vivo bimodality imaging of lymph node metastasis. Strong photothermal property under irradiation at 808 nm for efficient PTT. Easy drain into sentinel lymph nodes and selective enter metastatic gastric cancer cells via α v β 3 integrin-mediated endocytosis. Rapid and non-invasive monitoring of therapeutic efficacy against lymph node metastasis.

A highly efficient resonance light scattering (RLS) and visual probe based on mercaptosuccinic acid (MA) modified copper sulfide (CuS) nanosheets has been successfully established for sensitive and selective detection of l -cysteine ( l -Cys). The CuS nanosheets are facilely synthesized via a reductive solution route with MA as reductant and modifier at room temperature. The as-prepared CuS nanosheets have been characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), UV–vis spectra and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), respectively. Experimental results indicated that formation of hydrogen bonds and thiol-Cu chemical bonds between CuS nanosheets and l -Cys significantly contributed to the sensitivity and selectivity of the proposed method no matter for RLS or visual detection of l -Cys. Under the optimum experimental conditions, the linear range of the l -Cys RLS probe was 2.78 (10σ/K)-7000 nmol/L ( r = 0.9944), and the detection limit was 0.83 nmol/L (3σ/K). As to visual detection, the detection limit could also be extended to 75 μmol/L.

The nanofluid as a pivotal role in heat transfer system has attracted more and more attention. Herein, the stearic acid-modified CuS (SA-CuS) nanoparticles with a uniform diameter of 60 nm were synthesized successfully by a facile two-phase approach. Accordingly, the CuS-oil nanofluids, with SA-CuS concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 0.04 vol%, were prepared by a one-step method in the heat transfer oil. These CuS-oil nanofluids exhibit good stability and considerable enhanced thermal conductivity. The improvement is even up to 20.5% with a volume fraction of 0.04 vol% at 30 °C. Furthermore, the effect of volume fraction and temperature on the viscosity of the nanofluids was also systematically investigated.
