This study synthesized a novel pNiPc-COF via low-temperature molten salt method and composited it with GO. The synergy between them overcomes the conductivity bottleneck of pure COFs. • The electrochemical sensor based on this composite shows exceptional glucose detection performance, with a sensitivity of 875.71 μA·mM −1 ·cm −2 and a detection limit of 0.103 μM. • The sensor shows over 90% selectivity for glucose amid common interferents, along with excellent long-term stability and high repeatability. • The sensor's linear range is 0.15–9.45 mM, covering the physiological glucose window (3–6 mM) and extending to higher concentrations. Glucose electrochemical sensors underpin clinical diagnosis, biomanufacturing, food quality control and environmental surveillance. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are attractive for electroanalysis, yet nearly all COF glucose sensors require glucose oxidase immobilization, limiting long-term stability and scalability. Herein, we fabricate an enzyme-free glucose electrocatalyst: nickel phthalocyanine COF (pNiPc-COF) hybridized with graphene oxide (GO) via one-pot solvothermal treatment. XRD, SEM, FTIR, TGA and XPS confirm uniform pNiPc-COF/GO heterostructures; electroanalytical tests reveal strong synergistic glucose oxidation from dense Ni catalytic sites and fast charge transport in GO. At +0.65 V vs. SCE, the sensor achieves 5 s response over 0.15–9.45 mM glucose, with sensitivity of 875.71 μA mM −1 cm −2 and LOD = 0.103 μM (S/N = 3). It also exhibits strong anti-interference capability, offering a stable, high-performance enzyme-free platform for clinical glucose quantification. An essential factor affecting the photocatalytic efficiency of a catalyst is the efficient separation of photogenerated electrons and holes. In the present study, a novel heterojunction material, PCN@GO/AgNPs, was synthesized with the aim of improving the photocatalytic performance. This achievement was accomplished through the establishment of a heterojunction between graphitic phase carbon nitride (PCN) and nano silver (AgNO 3 ). The PCN was prepared from melamine powder calcined at high temperature under nitrogen environment, and was modified by graphene oxide (GO) to form heterojunction with silver nanoparticles, which resulted in a significant improvement in the photocatalytic efficiency of the catalyst. Under ultraviolet(UV)excitation, the catalytic rate constant of PCN@GO/AgNPs heterojunction on RhB dye can reach 10.594 × 10 −2 min −1 . This research represents a promising strategy to increase the surface area of PCN photocatalysts through simply doping noble metal and thus improving photocatalytic performance, which contributes to understand the reaction mechanism of photocatalytic effect.

Graphene oxide (GO) membranes with uniform sub-nanometer interlayer channels have shown great promise in the ion sieving field. However, the lack of ion-transporting sites on the GO nanosheets usually leads to inferior ion permeation and selectivity. Although the intercalation of molecules with ionic groups into GO laminates is easily achieved to incorporate ion exchange sites, this approach inevitably enlarges the interlayer spacing, reducing the ionic sieving capacity. Thus, current methods are limited in breaking the permeation and selectivity “trade-off”. Herein, we report a confined intercalation strategy to inject ample sulfonic acid groups into GO laminates using sulfonated graphene quantum dots (SGQD) as intercalators. SGQD with abundant ion exchange sites assembles on the sp 2 domains of GO via π-π interactions and confers the GO membranes with continuous ion conduction pathways. Meanwhile, benefiting from the ultra-small size SGQD as well as its sheet morphology, it can well accommodate in the GO laminates. This strategy fulfills the incorporation of ionic sites without expanding channel width and destructing the two-dimensional (2D) regularity for GO laminates, resulting in simultaneous improvements in ion permeability and selectivity. Correspondingly, the resulting membranes show synergistically improving OH - dialysis coefficients of 3.5 × 10 −3 -8.2 × 10 −3 m h −1 and OH - /WO 4 2- separation factors of 56–116 compared with the GO membrane (0.9 × 10 −3 m h −1 and 8.4) for separating simulated NaOH/Na 2 WO 4 alkaline effluents. We believe the confined intercalating regulation can act as a versatile and fine way to modify 2D membranes for intensifying ion separation.

A novel, green, and facile approach has been developed to construct an ultrasensitive flexible enzyme-less electrochemical sensor on the basis of chitosan and graphene oxide composites decorated with Cu nanoparticles supported on nickel foam (Nif/Cs/GO@Cu), in which GO functions as the intermediate between Nif and Cu nanoparticles. The Nif/Cs/GO@Cu sensing platform was successfully fabricated by the drop casting method to load Cs/GO onto Nif followed by an additionally electrodeposition to support Cu nanoparticles on Nif/Cs/GO. Impressively, the Nif/Cs/GO@Cu exhibited much higher electrocatalytic activity for glucose and UA oxidation as compared to that of Nif or Nif@Cu. For glucose and UA at about 0.6 V and 0.1 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), linearity could be obtained in the concentration ranges 5 µM–4 mM and 5–345 µM; the sensitivities were 16 and 2.5 µA µM −1 cm −2 , and the detection limits 83 nM and 0.3 µM, respectively. The improved performance of the composite electrode was ascribed to the synergistic effect of Cu nanoparticles, Nif and GO, in which GO provides high electron conductivity and large surface area to prevent the agglomeration of Cu nanoparticles; Cu nanoparticles and Nif offer abundant active sites towards analytes oxidation. Additionally, the method was applied to determine both analytes successfully in blood serum samples with excellent recovery and also opens up an attractive route to potential applications of the flexible nickel foam-based electrochemical sensor. The effluents of industrial wastewater contain several toxic organic and inorganic pollutants that may contaminate clean and freshwater sources if untreated or poorly treated. These toxic pollutants include colors; hazardous compounds; surfactants; cosmetics; agrochemicals; pharmaceutical by-products; and agricultural, pharmaceutical, and medical contaminants. Treating wastewater has become a global problem. Many projects have been started in the last two decades to treat wastewater, resultant water pollution, and associated waste management problems. Adsorbants based on graphene oxide (GO) are viable wastewater treatment materials due to their adaptability, photocatalytic action, and capacity for self-assembly. Here, we report the fabrication of nanofibrous mats from polycaprolactone (PCL), carboxymethyl arabinoxylan (CMARX), and carboxyl-functionalized-graphene oxide using an electrospinning technique. The silver nanoparticles were loaded onto the mat to enhance their photocatalytic activity. These mats were characterized using different techniques, including Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The water contact angles were used to study their hydrophilic and hydrophobic behavior. The Langmuir isotherm model and adsorption kinetics were studied to evaluate their adsorption capabilities against methylene blue (MB). Sample 2 followed the Langmuir isotherm model (R2= 0.9939). Adsorption kinetics exhibited pseudo-second order behavior (R2= 0.9978) due to their maximum correlation coefficient values. MB has excellent adsorption at room temperature and the formation of the monolayer at the surface of the adsorption mat. An enhanced PO43−and MB adsorption was observed, providing recyclability up to 4–5 times. Hence, the fabricated nanofibrous mat would be a potential candidate for more effective wastewater treatment applications. Keywords:adsorption;bacterial cellulose;electrospinning;thin nanofibrous mat;wastewater treatment;environmental pollution treatment

Electrothermal materials with low energy consumption and high stability are in high demand for improving our daily life. Here we propose a novel high-performance flexible heater with a high heating rate through screen printing, based on multi-scale nanocomposites comprised of multilayer graphene oxide (ML-GO), carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and aluminum nitride (AlN). The results show that AlN can fill the gaps in the network structure, reducing the surface thermal resistance and film resistivity, which greatly improves the electrical and thermal conductivity of the flexible heater. The maximum temperature of the ML-GO/CNT/AlN heated film reaches 131.2 °C at 4.5 V, and the thin layer exhibits a low sheet resistance down to 10.27 ± 2.5 Ω sq−1. Meanwhile, the steady temperature and corresponding responsivity of the multi-scale flexible heater are 153% and 57.8% higher than those of the ML-GO-based flexible heater, respectively. Inspiringly, the fluctuation in the steady-state temperature curve is less than 0.8% under random mechanical bending and torsion force. During deicing, a high steady-state temperature can also be observed and the ultra-fast response time is far superior to those of most existing heaters. In addition to that, ML-GO/CNT/AlN heaters present a low driving voltage, excellent flexibility and stability, and can be integrated into various deicing conditions and wearable medical systems without being too picky about the used substrates. They also show great potential for application in various intelligent heating films and open up pathways for wearable heating applications.

Graphical Making the switch : A thermally responsive poly( N -isopropylacrylamide)-modified graphene oxide (PNIPAm-GO) nanocomposite was synthesized by using a covalent “grafting-from” strategy. It was further applied as an intelligent PNIPAm-GO/GC electrode to display switchable electrocatalysis toward 1,4-dihydro-β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide and dopamine (see scheme). Poly( N -isopropylacrylamide)-modified graphene oxide (PNIPAm-GO), which is a type of thermally responsive GO, was designed and synthesized through a covalent “grafting-from” strategy. The as-prepared modified nanosheets integrated the individual advantages of two components, such as the thermal sensitivity of the PNIPAm terminal as well as the conductivity and the open 2D structure of the GO substrate. PNIPAm-GO was able to perform the reversible regulation of hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity in aqueous solution upon variations in the temperature. Such a unique property might also lead to the utilization of PNIPAm-GO as an intelligent electrode material to achieve a switchable electrochemical response toward a [Fe(CN) 6 ] 3−/4− probe. The PNIPAm-GO modified glassy carbon electrode (PNIPAm-GO/GC electrode) was able to exhibit better electrochemical performance in an ON/OFF switching effect than the PNIPAm-modified glassy carbon electrode (PNIPAm/GC electrode) without GO owing to the intrinsic properties and large surface area of the introduced GO. Moreover, it was found that the PNIPAm-GO/GC electrode also displayed excellent thermally responsive electrocatalysis toward the detection of 1,4-dihydro-β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) and dopamine (DA), which resulted in two different catalytic statuses on the same electrode. This kind of switchable catalytic performance of the PNIPAm-GO/GC electrode might greatly enhance the flexibility of its application, and thus it is expected to have wide potential for applications in the fields of biosensors and biocatalysis.

An hybrid membranes based on functional GO nanosheet for selective adsorption lithium from compound was great potential. Here, a simple and efficient methodology was reported to obtain high stability, selectivity, and antifouling properties. More importantly, we studied the selective adsorption capacity of the fabricated membranes to lithium under a high magnesium and low lithium environment. The results showed that the fabricated membrane exhibited excellent lithium adsorption and highly selective adsorption efficiency. The fabricated membranes presented a relatively lower contact angle (67.226°) and a higher membrane flux (13.62 mL cm−2 min−1), which indicated that the fabricated membrane had a high hydrophilicity because the presence of carboxylic and hydroxyl groups of GO could enhance the interaction between the membrane and water. Moreover, the perm-selectivity results (β values were greater than 7) and regeneration ability (90.9% of the maximum adsorption capacity was retained after 10 cycles) were shown. The overall results suggested that functional GO can be considered as an effective additive for inorganic–organic composite membranes for the selective adsorption of lithium. It is worth mentioning that this methodology can be applied to selectively identify and adsorb lithium and is environmentally friendly, as it does not lead to secondary pollution.

In this study, a facile room-temperature solution method is developed for the preparation of zinc oxide@graphene oxide (ZnO@GO) nanocomposites. Unlike the general process to obtain crystallized materials by heating, the room temperature we used can generate fine ZnO@GO nanocomposites with ultra-small ZnO nanocrystal (∼8 nm) and high weight content (∼84%). The obtained ZnO@GO nanocomposite was thoroughly characterized by various physicochemical techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, indicating well-dispersed ZnO on the GO layer and strong interaction between the each other. As an anode material for lithium-ion batteries, ZnO@GO exhibits high specific reversible capacity and excellent cycling performance, which can be ascribed to the role of GO in preventing the agglomeration of the ZnO nanoparticles by creating the decorated nanoscale composite during the electrochemical process.

Purification and recovery of polar organic solvents such as dimethylformamide (DMF) with high chemical separation speed and low energy cost nanofiltration membranes has been widely investigated, while it is still a difficult challenge that high permeability of solvents and rejection of solutes are achieved simultaneously. In this study, a novel organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN) membranes was obtained via coating a thin selective graphene oxide (GO) layer on top of the polyimide porous substrate (PI) which was cross-linked to improve the stability in polar solvents. The resultant GO/cross-linked PI (GO/CLPI) composite membranes feature remarkable sieving capability of >94% for RBss molecules (1018 Da), accompanying high pure solvent permeability of 11.1 L h −1 m −2 bar −1 , 4.9 L h −1 m −2 bar −1 and 1.0 L h −1 m −2 bar −1 for water, IPA and DMF, respectively. Different from conventional method of characterization, low field nuclear magnetic resonance technology (LF-NMR) was utilized to confirm that the GO/CLPI membrane shows a higher adsorption capacity for IPA than DMF. This newly technique can be effectively utilized to evaluate the affinity between organic solvents and the surface of membranes.

Magnetic nanoparticle-coated graphene oxide (GO) can be oriented in polymers under magnetic field due to the anisotropy of GO and excellent magnetism of magnetic nanoparticles. In this study, ferroferric oxide nanoparticles coated GO (Fe 3 O 4 -GO) was synthesized successfully using oxidation-coprecipitation method. The synthesized Fe 3 O 4 -GO was then added to epoxy and oriented by applying magnetic field using (1) the electromagnetic coil and (2) permanent magnets to toughen the epoxy matrix. Non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) tests were performed to determine the curing process of Fe 3 O 4 -GO/E-51/3a-methyl-5,6-dihydro-4 H -isobenzofuran-1,3-dione (MeTHPA)/2,4,6 Tris(dimethyl aminomethyl)phenol (DMP-30) system (Fe 3 O 4 -GO/E-51/MeTHPA/DMP-30). Transmission electron microscope images show that Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles were coated on the GO surface homogenously and Fe 3 O 4 -GO were highly oriented in E-51/MeTHPA/DMP-30 epoxy system under different magnetic field conditions. The maximum impact strength of Fe 3 O 4 -GO/E-51/MeTHPA/DMP-30 composite was observed at 0.2 wt% Fe 3 O 4 -GO loading, with values of 28.64 and 30.54 kJ/m 2 in case of the magnetic field applied through permanent magnets and electromagnetic coil respectively, which is an increase by 39.6 and 48.8% respectively when compared with the pure E-51/MeTHPA/DMP-30 system (20.52 kJ/m 2 ). In addition, at 0.4 wt% Fe 3 O 4 -GO loading and application of magnetic field through electromagnetic coil, the maximum increase in flexural modulus was observed, which was increased by 41.8% and 17.23% compared with the pure epoxy system and the one without application of magnetic field at same Fe 3 O 4 -GO loading respectively. The fracture morphologies from the scanning electron microscope also indicated that the oriented Fe 3 O 4 -GO under magnetic field improved the toughness of the E-51/MeTHPA/DMP-30 resin system.
