Herein, the morphology of a La metal–organic framework (La-MOF) was modified from aggregated granules to a reticular structure possessing a large specific surface area by altering the solvothermal temperature. Thereafter, the La-MOF was applied as an adsorption carrier for fluoride ions removal. Batch adsorption experiments indicated that the morphological structure of La-MOF considerably affects its adsorption performance. The maximum adsorption capacity of the La-MOF-130 comprising the highest dispersion of the reticular structure for fluoride ions was 142.86 mg/g, which was 28.29 % higher than that of the granular-structured La-MOF. Furthermore, La-MOF-130 exhibited an excellent adsorption performance and strong affinity for fluoride ions in a broad pH range (3–10) and a short adsorption time (60 min). The pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir adsorption isotherm models indicated that fluoride ions adsorption of La-MOF was dominated by monomolecular layer chemisorption. Furthermore, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses revealed that the coordination exchange and electrostatic attraction were the interaction mechanism between La-MOF and fluoride ions. Moreover, an efficient solid–liquid separation of the adsorption aggregates (La-MOF-F) and removal of fluoride ions were accomplished via microbubble flotation under the action of the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate. The fluoride ions adsorption efficiency was 95.57 % and the solid–liquid separation efficiency was 99.08 %. The research results indicate that the La-MOF carrier adsorption flotation method has broad application prospects in industrial wastewater treatment.

Prussian blue analogs (PBAs) are promising catalysts in heterogeneous oxidation processes. The catalytic activity of PBAs relies on exposed crystal facets and accessible active sites on the PBA framework. Employing a heteroatom doping strategy using a rare earth element (La), we regulated the crystal structure and optimized the catalytic activity of CoFe PBA for peroxymonosulfate (PMS)-driven degradation of the antibiotic norfloxacin (NOR). The La atoms were mainly doped in the interstitial sites of the CoFe PBA cubic lattices, without affecting the electron distributions of Co and Fe metals or the face-centered cubic crystal phase of the coordination skeleton. La doping dominated the (1 1 1) and (1 0 0) as the main exposed facets of CoFeLa PBA, increasing the affinity of CoFeLa PBAs for PMS adsorption due to the higher surface energy of the two facets. Consequently, the activation energy considerably declined from 77.57 kJ/mol in CoFe PBA to 51.66 kJ/mol in CoFeLa PBA and the catalytic activity for PMS-driven NOR degradation was largely improved, which can reach 76.4 % removal of NOR within 15 min, with an increased initial rate constant k of 0.095 min −1 . 1 O 2 was proven as the main reactive specie responsible for NOR degradation in the PMS/CoFeLa system, and O 2 · − and SO 4 · − were verified as the important intermediates to generate 1 O 2 . Thus, La doping can effectively enhance the catalytic performance of PBA-based catalysts for organic pollutant removal.

For capacitor applications, Ba(Sm 1- x - y La x Bi y ) 2 Ti 4 O 12 dielectric ceramics with La/Bi co-substitution for Sm were prepared using the conventional solid-state method. Part of Sm 3+ was found to be replaced by La 3+ and Bi 3+ in ceramics that exhibit an orthorhombic tungsten bronze structure. As the concentration of Bi 3+ increased, a second phase of Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 was observed. The co-substitutions could reduce the sintering temperature and effectively increase the dielectric constant from 80 to 140. The dielectric loss increased slightly with increasing La 3+ and Bi 3+ , but it still remained below 0.1% at 1 kHz. After sintering, a specific composition was achieved with x = 0.1 and y = 0.4. It has a high dielectric constant of 132, an ultra-low dielectric loss of approximately 0.06%, and excellent frequency stability. Additionally, it exhibits a capacitance-temperature change of ± 1% at 1 kHz over a temperature range of − 55 to 125 °C.

This research paper explores the influence of varying the quantity of La–Ni@3DG catalyst on the hydrogen storage capabilities of MgH 2 . La–Ni@3DG catalyst was prepared using lanthanum chloride heptahydrate and nickel chloride hexahydrate as raw materials combined with three-dimensional graphene, then mixed with MgH 2 via ball milling to prepare MgH 2 + x wt.% La–Ni@3DG ( x = 0, 3, 5, 7) composite alloy. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the composite alloy was mainly composed of the MgH 2 phase, with the presence of Mg and (La, Ni) phases detected. With increased La–Ni@3DG addition, the broadening of the MgH 2 diffraction peak significantly improved, indicating the catalyst promoted alloy phase structure uniformity and crystallinity. The composite alloy forms new phases such as LaH 3 , LaNi 3 H 6 , and Mg 2 NiH 4 during hydrogen absorption. These phases cooperate with in-situ formed LaH 3 and Mg 2 Ni to significantly improve the reversible hydrogen absorption and desorption properties of MgH 2 . Adding La–Ni@3DG catalyst has a significant positive effect on the hydrogen absorption and desorption of MgH 2 , leading to a considerable improvement. At 553 K, the composite alloy reaches hydrogen absorption equilibrium faster than pure MgH 2 , and the temperature for hydrogen absorption is significantly reduced to 373 K. The dehydrogenation performance is also improved, with 5 wt.% La–Ni@3DG is showing the best dehydrogenation performance at 553 K. The initial dehydrogenation temperature commences at approximately 505 K, while the dehydrogenation activation energy attains its minimum value: a remarkably low 109.91 kJ/mol H 2 . Additionally, the addition of catalyst reduces the pressure of the hydrogen absorption and desorption platform, effectively reducing the hysteresis effect during hydrogen absorption and desorption when the catalyst content is 5 wt.%, the enthalpy change and entropy change of the composite alloy reach a minimum, −70.45 kJ/mol H 2 and 74.38 kJ/mol H 2 (hydrogen absorption), −101.93 J/K/mol H 2 and 103.68 J/K/mol H 2 (hydrogen desorption), respectively.

Deep dephosphorization of mariculture tailwater, a typical high-salinity and weakly alkaline wastewater, is difficult but essential for meeting ever-stricter stringent emission standards. Herein, we developed an alkaline-conversion method to prepare lanthanum-based metal organic framework (La–MOF) derivatives for efficient phosphate removal from mariculture tailwater. During the templated alkaline-conversion process, the strong-alkaline regent gradually broke the coordination bonds of La–MOF while maintained its macrostructure, and the La nodes liberated from the framework were then crystallized into La(OH) 3 . The universality of this conversion method was verified on other La–MOF precursors with different benzoic multicarboxylate ligands. Importantly, numerous mesopores were formed in the derivative interior, increasing the number of exposed active La sites and accessible transfer channels. Therefore, the derivative exhibited superior phosphate-adsorption performance with a high adsorption capacity (Langmuir Q 0 : 155.7 mg P/g) and a rapid adsorption rate. The obtained La–MOF derivative with stable structure had broad neutral–alkaline pH range adaptability, which was demonstrated satisfactory dephosphorization selectivity and high cyclic performance under different seawater conditions (coexisting anions, cations, H 3 BO 3 and natural organic matter). Finally, the obtained mesopore-rich La–MOF derivative exhibited an excellent deep dephosphorization capacity for actual mariculture tailwaters collected from seven mariculture ponds. The reactive phosphate level was quickly reduced to an ultra-low effluent concentration (<0.05 mg P/L), demonstrating the promising application potential of the La–MOF derivative.

(Bi 1-x La x ) 2/3 Cu 3 Ti 4 O 12 ceramics were prepared via solid-state method. Their phase composition, microstructure and defect formation along with optical, dielectric, and nonlinear properties were systematically studied. Results showed that La 3+ doping reduced cation vacancies and enhanced optical band gap. The increased grain size, density, grain boundary (GB) resistance, and barrier height improved the dielectric and nonlinear properties of the doped samples. (Bi 0.95 La 0.05 ) 2/3 Cu 3 Ti 4 O 12 ceramic exhibited the highest dielectric constant of ∼25295 and low dielectric loss tangent of ∼0.062 at 10 kHz, as well as nonlinear coefficient of ∼3.21 and breakdown strength of ∼2.47 kV/cm. Huge dielectric constant in low-frequency range was associated with the presence of semiconducting grains and insulating GBs, following the internal barrier layer capacitance mechanism. Nonlinear properties originated from Schottky barriers at GBs. In addition, dielectric relaxations of all the samples were ascribed to Maxwell–Wagner relaxation related to GBs as well.

Transition metal oxides have gained significant recognition for their remarkable catalytic performance in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Among this group, the perovskite-structured AB O 3 compounds have emerged as prospective OER electrocatalysts , particularly when selections are made for the constituents occupying the A and B sites. Here, we employed a simple solid-state reaction method to synthesize perovskite-structured R FeO 3 ( R = Tm, La) and subsequently loaded them on high-conductive nickel foam (NF) for OER. The results reveal that R FeO 3 /NF ( R = Tm, La) catalysts exhibit low overpotentials of 361 mV and 357 mV, respectively, for OER at a current density of 10 mA·cm −2 , indicating substantial advancements in both catalytic activity and efficiency.

Plasmonic-driven photocatalyst have outstanding solar driven surface plasmon resonance (SPR) characteristics, and it is a prospective approach to improve photocatalytic performance. Herein, plasmonic Co metal decorated SrTiO 3 : La/Cr hollow cubes was developed and constructed by template-free hydrothermal method. The photocatalyst possesses the merits of the hollow structure with large specific surface area and strong light absorption. The intimate contact between Co and SrTiO 3 : La/Cr promotes the interfacial charge transfer. Co-SrTiO 3 : La/Cr manifests the superior photocatalytic performance toward water splitting for hydrogen evolution compared with that of other cocatalyst. And the H 2 evolution exceeds 210 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 under the optimum of the amount of 1.25wt% Co NPs. The mechanism of the enhanced performance comes from the improvement of light absorption in the visible-light region induced by SPR, as well as the efficient interfacial separation and transport of charge carriers on the photocatalyst facilitated by the local electromagnetic fields of plasmonic Co metal. The selection of different organic ligands when synthesizing metal organic framework (MOFs) can change their effects on the adsorption performance. Here, four La-MOFs adsorbents (La-SA, La-FA, La-TA and La-OA) with different organic ligands and structures were synthesized by solvothermal method for phosphate adsorption, and the relationship between their adsorption properties and structures was established. Among four La-MOFs, their phosphate adsorption capacities and adsorption rates followed La-SA > La-FA > La-TA > La-OA. The results indicated that average pore diameter played a key role in phosphate adsorption and there was a positive correlation between average pore diameter and adsorption capacity ( R 2 = 0.86). Coexisting ion experiments showed that phosphate adsorptions on three La-MOFs (La-SA, La-FA and La-TA) were inhibited in the presence of CO 3 2− and HCO 3 − . The inhibition of CO 3 2− was the most pronounced and the results of redundancy analysis pointed out that it was mainly due to the change of pH value. In contrast, La-OA showed enhanced phosphate adsorption in the presence of CO 3 2− and HCO 3 − , and the combination of pH experiments showed that phosphate adsorption by La-OA was increased under alkaline conditions. Further combined with FT-IR, XRD , high resolution energy spectra of XPS (La 3d, P 2p and O 1s) and XANES , the adsorption mechanisms were derived electrostatic attraction , chemical precipitation and inner sphere complexation, and the last two were identified as the main mechanisms. Moreover, it can be identified from XPS 2p that the phosphate adsorption on La-FA and La-OA were mainly in the LaPO 4 state, while La-SA and La-TA mainly existed in the form of LaPO 4 ·xH 2 O crystals and inner sphere complexes. From the perspective of material morphology, this work provides a thought for the rational design of MOFs with adjustable properties for phosphate adsorption.

Graphical A novel method enhances triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) output by using La-doped bismuth ferrite nanoparticles as the triboelectric layer filler. Under the filler concentration threshold, the output performance of the TENG with 1.5 wt% La-doped BFO fillers is significantly enhanced compared to that with undoped BFO fillers. Additionally, a self-powered anticorrosion system is developed using this TENG as the energy source. Incorporating high-permittivity nanoparticles as fillers into triboelectric layers is an effective strategy to enhance the output performance of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG). However, exceeding the critical filler concentration threshold causes nanoparticle aggregation, limiting further output performance enhancement of TENG. Here, a novel approach is proposed to enhance TENG output performance by doping lanthanum (La) into bismuth ferrite (BFO), forming La-doped BFO nanoparticle fillers (BLFO) to further improve the output performance of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-based TENG without increasing filler concentration. This approach overcomes the limitation of nanoparticle aggregation at high filler loadings while significantly enhancing the output performance of TENG. Below the critical concentration threshold, the dielectric constant of BLFO/PVDF composites increases by 32% compared to undoped BFO/PVDF composites. Consequently, the BLFO/PVDF-based TENG achieves a high output voltage of 329 V and short circuit current of 44 µA, representing 43% and 69% increases over the BFO/PVDF-based TENG, respectively. Notably, these values represent 219% and 193% increases compared to the pure PVDF-based TENG. Furthermore, a self-powered anticorrosion system powered by the BLFO/PVDF TENG demonstrates effective metal protection, as evidenced by open-circuit potential measurements and reduced average corrosion rates.

The sintering issue of Ni nanoparticles seriously limits the practical application of the Ni-based catalysts for CO 2 methanation. This work demonstrates that the La- and Ce- dual-promoted Ni/ZrO 2 shows better durability at 600 ºC and 60000 mL g cat −1 h −1 over 200 h compared with the La- or Ce- single-promoted. The composition and microstructure characterization indicates that the dispersion and sintering resistance of Ni nanoparticles is enhanced with the dual-promoted catalysts. Both depth profile of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional theory calculation show that in the La- and Ce- dual-promoted Ni/ZrO 2 , the reduced dissolution of Ce into ZrO 2 lattice and the spread of La on ZrO 2 surface by forming a La 2 O 3 -CeO 2 solid solution improves the dispersion and stability of Ni nanoparticles. This work provides a facile strategy to mitigate the sintering of Ni nanoparticles and thus improve the stability of Ni-based catalysts for CO 2 methanation.
