Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) play crucial roles in cancer progression, but their regulatory mechanisms in breast cancer remain poorly understood. We developed a NETs-related prognostic risk model using TCGA breast cancer data and identified key biomarkers through bioinformatics analysis. AZU1 expression was validated in clinical samples using qRT-PCR and immunohistochemistry. In vitro experiments investigated AZU1's effects on neutrophil activation and NET formation using recombinant protein treatment, co-culture assays, and flow cytometry. Mechanistic studies employed phospholipase C (PLC) inhibition and PAD4 knockdown approaches. An orthotopic mouse model validated in vivo findings. Four NETs-related genes (F2RL2, AZU1, IL33, ELANE) constituted a robust prognostic model with good predictive performance. AZU1 showed significant upregulation in breast cancer tissues and correlated with advanced tumor stages. AZU1 overexpression in breast cancer cells enhanced neutrophil recruitment and NET formation through PLC signaling activation. Recombinant AZU1 dose-dependently activated neutrophils, promoted NET formation, and enhanced cancer cell invasion via epithelial-mesenchymal transition induction. PLC inhibition and PAD4 knockdown effectively blocked AZU1-induced neutrophil activation. In vivo experiments confirmed that AZU1 overexpression accelerated tumor growth and metastasis, while PAD4 inhibition reversed these effects. AZU1 promotes breast cancer progression through PAD4-dependent NET formation, representing a potential therapeutic target for breast cancer treatment.

Multimodal optical anti-counterfeiting plays a vital role in modern commodity circulation. However, most current multimodal anti-counterfeiting materials rely on complex multi-component compounds and costly rare-earth ion doping, which limits their commercial applications. Therefore, achieving multimodal anti-counterfeiting within simple and low-cost compound systems holds promising practical prospects. This work developed luminescent materials with multimodal emission and optical storage capabilities via Mn 2+ single doping and Li-flux modification of an inexpensive and readily available CaO host. Calcium oxide is a common industrial product that can be obtained through simple calcination, laying the foundation for practical commercial applications. The Mn 2+ singly-doped sample enables information writing via ultraviolet light and dual-mode (thermal/optical) readout, a property not shared by the Li-flux modified counterpart. Furthermore, based on the flux effect, Li-flux treatment not only enhances the green emission of Mn 2+ but also introduces deeper traps, extending storage duration and enabling high-temperature readout. Leveraging the differences in optical response and trap distribution between the two materials, a multi-level optical anti-counterfeiting demonstration with dynamic color and temperature-dependent characteristics was constructed. This work provides a new material strategy for developing low-cost, high-security optical anti-counterfeiting and information encryption technologies.

Mitochondria serve as central regulators of tumorigenesis, progression, metastasis, and chemoresistance, playing a pivotal role in cancer bioenergetics and thus representing prime targets for anticancer therapy. However, conventional strategies aimed at disrupting mitochondrial energy supply often exhibit limited efficacy due to the compensatory interplay between mitochondrial tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA) and glycolysis. Herein, we developed a trimetallic nano-trap capable of achieving synergistic ATP depletion via dual-pathway metabolic interference. Specifically, this engineered system co-delivers Cu-MOF and CaO2 to trigger irreversible Cu2+/Ca2+ dual-overload, resulting in structural damage and functional impairment of mitochondria, thereby suppressing ATP generation. Concurrently, glucose is progressively depleted through the catalytic activity of Au NPs, effectively interrupting the glycolytic energy supply. By concomitantly inhibiting glycolysis and mitochondrial metabolism, this system achieves a marked reduction in ATP production. This ion interference-based strategy offers a promising paradigm to overcome metabolic plasticity in cancer treatment.

It has been remained a challenge to detect trace formaldehyde in complex samples, such as rice flour and duck blood products. In this study, a purge-trap device was designed and used for volatile target detection, which avoided interference adsorptions on enhanced particle surfaces during subsequent surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) analysis. The device produced a low detection limit for formaldehyde of 1 × 10 −4 μg/mL in the concentration ranges of 4 × 10 −3 –4 μg/mL and 1 × 10 −4 –3 × 10 −3 μg/mL. In the process of the detection of duck blood and rice flour, partial least squares regression (PLSR) was adopted for sample analysis. The formaldehyde concentration was calculated and compared to the actual value from the above model with R 2 of 0.97, which indicated high accuracy and stability. These results suggested that the proposed method was reliable and suitable for rapid analysis of trace formaldehyde in real products.

Accurate detection of trace atmospheric mercury is critical for toxicological assessment and environmental protection. However, achieving parts per billion-level sensitivity with high selectivity between gaseous elemental mercury (Hg0) and oxidized mercury (Hg2+) remains a significant challenge. Here, we present a novel dual-channel enrichment trap system that selectively captures Hg0 by using a layered Au-MXene (Ti3C2Tx) composite as the sorption trap. This composite demonstrates exceptional selectivity for Hg0, with a selectivity ratio of up to 76.7 over Hg2+, and achieves 99.7% ± 0.3% (n = 3) sorption efficiency for ppb-level Hg0 within 30 min at room temperature. Complete desorption is achieved in just 90 s at 300 °C, demonstrating a response time of 45 s for Hg0 detection through the dual-electrothermal Hg0 channel. The Au–Ti3C2Tx preconcentration cartridge exhibits excellent moisture resistance, high-temperature stability, and long-term durability. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the built-in electric field at the Au–Ti3C2Tx interface accelerates electron transfer, reducing preconcentration and regeneration times. This technology integrates seamlessly with the cold vapor atomic absorption spectrophotometer (CVAAS) method to form a mercury dual-channel continuous emission measurement system (Hg DCEMS), ensuring highly selective and precise trace Hg0 detection. This advancement provides a device for accurately measuring the Hg0 concentration, enabling better mercury pollution control.

Electrostatic capacitors are typically necessary to operate in harsh-temperature environments to fulfill the demanding requirements of renewable energy, electrified transportations, and advanced propulsion systems. However, achieving exceptional capacitive performance in polymer dielectrics at elevated temperatures and electric fields remains a formidable challenge owing to the exponential growth of conduction loss. Herein, we propose a new class of polymer dielectric composites comprising polyetherimide (PEI) incorporated with monodispersed aluminum macrocycle (AOC). The Al-O backbone of AOC creates a ring, where electron-rich O atoms own a strong charge scattering effect and electron-deficient Al atoms have a charge captured capability. Such a unique structure reduces both electron concentration and mobility, thereby effectively inhibiting charge transport within polymer dielectrics and significantly suppressing the high-temperature electrical conduction loss even at high electric fields. Consequently, the PEI-AOC composite exhibits the maximum discharged energy density with an efficiency above 90% of 6.57 J/cm3 and 4.4 J/cm3 at 150°C and 200 °C, which exceed those of the original dielectric by more than ten-fold under identical conditions. This work presents a groundbreaking approach to manipulate the high-temperature capacitive performance of polymer dielectrics in practical power apparatus and electronic devices.

Postoperative abdominal adhesions are a common clinical problem after surgery and can cause many serious complications. Current most commonly used antiadhesion products are less effective due to their short residence time and focus primary on barrier function. Herein, we developed a sprayable hydrogel barrier (sHA-ADH/OHA-E) with self-regulated drug release based on ROS levels at the trauma site, to serve as a smart inflammatory microenvironment modulator and GATA6 + macrophages trap for non-adherent recovery from abdominal surgery. Sulfonated hyaluronic acid (HA) conjugates modified with adipic dihydrazide (sHA-ADH), and oxidized HA conjugates grafted with epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) via ROS-cleavable boronate bonds (OHA-E) were synthesized. sHA-ADH/OHA-E hydrogel was facilely fabricated within 5 s after simply mixing sHA-ADH and OHA-E through forming dynamic covalent acylhydrazones. With good biocompatibility, appropriate mechanical strength, tunable shear-thinning, self-healing, asymmetric adhesion, and reasonable in vivo retention time, sHA-ADH/OHA-E hydrogel meets the requirements of a perfect physical barrier. Intriguingly, sulfonic acid groups endowed the hydrogel with satisfactory anti-fibroblast and macrophage attachment capability, and were demonstrated for the first time to act as polyanion traps to prevent GATA6 + macrophages aggregation. Importantly, EGCG could be intelligently released by ROS triggering to alleviate oxidative stress and promote proinflammatory M1 macrophage polarize to antiinflammatory M2 phenotype. Further, the fibrinolytic system balance was restored to reduce fibrosis. Thanks to the above advantages, the sHA-ADH/OHA-E hydrogel exhibited excellent anti-adhesion effects in a rat sidewall defect–cecum abrasion model and is expected to be a promising and clinically translatable antiadhesion barrier.

Pollution caused by nitrogen oxides (NO x , mainly NO and NO 2 ) has attracted considerable attention due to its negative implications on the environment and human health. Herein, a novel, portable, and battery-operated system integrating a purge and trap (P&T) system with a miniaturized point discharge optical emission spectrometer ( μ PD-OES) was developed for monitoring atmospheric NO x . Among NO x , NO 2 can be selectively and directly absorbed by sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution and converted to nitrite (NO 2 − ). In contrast to NO 2 , NO cannot be absorbed by NaOH and must be oxidized to NO 2 by KMnO 4 prior to its absorption. When NO 2 and NO x samplers were exposed simultaneously, NO can be calculated as the difference. The concentration of NO x in the air was determined by analyzing the NO 2 − . The obtained NO 2 − solution was purged with an argon carrier gas at a rate of 400 mL min −1 for 5 min to remove all the volatile organic compounds contained in the solution before reacting with cyclamate to generate volatile cyclohexene, which was efficiently isolated and preconcentrated by P&T. Subsequently, the cyclohexene was desorbed from the P&T unit and swept into the μ PD-OES for its detection under optimized conditions. The system demonstrated a detection limit of 0.02 ppbv (0.04 μg/m 3 ) for NO 2 , surpassing conventional methods. Precision expressed as the relative standard deviation (RSD, n = 11) was better than 3.5 %. The system was validated by analyzing two NO 2 standard gases and fourteen ambient air samples, and the obtained analytical results demonstrated its promising potential for rapid, sensitive, and precise NO x evaluation and monitoring.

The capillary is a widely used atmospheric pressure interface in mass spectrometers that may be heated to enhance the desolvation of ions. In this study, the ion transmission efficiency of a portable ion trap mass spectrometer was investigated using capillaries with different inner diameters and temperatures, different vacuum pressures, and different ion optics designs. Due to the incomplete desolvation and the space charge effect inside the miniature ion funnel, the increase of ion intensities with the inner diameter of the capillary leveled off when the inner diameter of the capillary was larger than 0.37 mm. With the increase of capillary temperature, the ion intensities first increase due to better desolvation and then decrease due to greater diffusion loss. The optimal temperature of the capillary increases with the inner diameter of the capillary and the mass-to-charge ratio of ion. In addition, the pressures of different vacuum stages also exerted remarkable effects on the sensitivity of the portable mass spectrometer. From the perspective of instrument miniaturization, optimal transmission efficiency can be obtained when the first-stage vacuum pressure is maintained from 4 to 6 mbar. For a capillary with an inner diameter of 0.37 mm, the background of mass spectrum can be significantly reduced by replacing the pinhole behind the ion funnel with an off-axis skimmer.

The nonradiative recombination losses resulting from the trap states at the surface and grain boundaries directly hinder the further enhancement of power conversion efficiency (PCE) and stability of perovskite solar cells. Consequently, it is highly desirable to suppress nonradiative recombination through modulating perovskite crystallization and passivating the defects of perovskite films. Here, a simple and effective multifunctional additive engineering strategy is reported where 11 Maleimidoundecanoic acid (11MA) units with carbonyls (carboxyl and amide) and long hydrophobic alkyl chain are incorporated into a perovskite precursor solution. It is revealed that improved crystallinity, reduced trap state density, and inhibited ion migration are achieved, which is ascribed to the strong coordination interaction between the carbonyl groups at both sides of 11MA molecules and Pb 2+ . As a result, improved efficiency and stability are achieved simultaneously after introducing 11MA additive. The device with 11MA additive delivers a champion PCE of 23.34% with negligible hysteresis, which is significantly higher than the 18.24% of the control device. The modified device maintains around 91% of its initial PCE after aging under ambient conditions for 3000 h. This work provides a guide for developing multifunctional additive molecules for the purpose of simultaneous improvement of efficiency and stability.

Here based on integral microcrystal (IMC) thin films of halide perovskites containing formamidinium (FA)/methylammonium (MA) mixed cations, afforded by a facile approach combining an anti-solvent and inverse temperature crystallization, we investigate the impact of the addition of MAPbBr3 on the phase, thermal and environmental stabilities as well as the opto-electronic properties in FA-based IMC films. By single-crystal XRD, FA based IMCs have been found to possess a perfect cubic structure showing a slight lattice contraction compared to pristine FAPbI3 crystals. In conjunction with optical and electrical analyses, the essential role of the introduced MA and Br ions in stabilizing the black phase in FA-based IMCs has been clarified, which explains the observed enhancement of photoluminescence and reduced trap densities. We also achieve stable pure FAPbI3 crystals that do not exhibit a yellow-phase transition after one month in air. By utilizing (FAPbI3)1−x(MAPbBr3)x IMCs as the photo-absorber, we realize highly photo-responsive photodiodes with a satisfactory stability in air and thermal stability upon heating. Of interest, the best photoresponsivity exceeding 300 A W−1 is achieved upon appropriate air-exposure, which is among the highest values reported for FA-based perovskite photodetectors. The air-modified optoelectronic behaviour can be related to the trap passivation through the surface physisorption of the environmental O2, leading to reduced trap densities and resultant harmful SRH recombination.

A simple, rapid, and sensitive nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis-electrospray ionization-ion trap-mass spectrometry (NACE-ESI-IT-MS) method was developed for determination of matrine and oxymatrine in Sophora Flavescens and medicinal preparations. The conditions for NACE separation and MS detection were systematically optimized. The optimum NACE buffer contained 30 mM ammonium acetate, 1% acetic acid, and 15% acetonitrile in methanol and the applied voltage on separation capillary was set at 25 kV. Berberine was selected as internal standard. In order to generate a stable electrospray, a sheath liquid (isopropanol/H2O, 2/1, v/v) was used, which could also boost the flow through the ESI needle. The matrine and oxymatrine solutions were introduced into MS detection by a syringe pump for collecting the MSn spectra to investigate the main fragment ions and its possible cleavage pathways. Both matrine and oxymatrine showed good linearity in the concentration ranges from 0.5 to 400 µg/mL, with linear correlation coefficient R > 0.99 and the limit of detections were 37.5 ng/mL for matrine and 50.0 ng/mL for oxymatrine, respectively. The recoveries at different content of Sophora Flavescens were 98.3%–102.9% for MT and 95.3%–100.6% for OMT, which indicates the reliability of this method.
