Highly conductive Sn2+-anchored Ti3C2 quantum dots (Sn-TQDs) prepared by electrostatic attraction between Sn2+ and Ti3C2 quantum dots (TQDs) have a vital ability to transfer electrons. Herein, WO3/Sn-TQDs/In2S3 heterojunctions have been fabricated for the first time by introducing Sn-TQDs as electron mediators to shuttle electrons from WO3 to In2S3 efficiently, further realizing the rapid reduction of low-concentration Cr(VI) and H2 generation by water splitting under visible light. The Cr(VI) reduction efficiency and H2 evolution rate over WO3/Sn-TQDs/In2S3 were 2.1 and 5.5 times that of WO3/TQDs/In2S3, respectively. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of WO3/Sn-TQDs/In2S3 can be attributed to the positively charged Sn2+ anchored around the negatively charged TQDs, facilitating the improvement of photogenerated electron transfer efficiency. Finally, the possible photocatalytic mechanism of Cr(VI) reduction and H2 generation by WO3/Sn-TQDs/In2S3 was proposed. This provides a new perspective on the surface modification of Ti3C2 quantum dots in photocatalysis.

To advance the concept of organic-inorganic hybrids toward extreme operating conditions, the composite coating was constructed via adding well-dispersed Ti 3 C 2 @ZnO heterostructure into interpenetrating polymer network (IPN). Its wear rates after UV irradiation under dry and tribocorrosion conditions were decreased by 81.85% and 80.4%, respectively, and accompanied by the highest open circuit potential value. Its storage modulus and adhesion strength after UV irradiation were enhanced by 74.4% and 502.5%, respectively. Outstanding wear/corrosion resistance under extreme operating conditions can be attributed to as follows: the nature/structure advantage of Ti 3 C 2 @ZnO reinforcement including weakening photo-oxidative degradation and good barrier, the mending effect of Ti 3 C 2 @ZnO for wear scar and the formation of tribo-film on the sliding interfaces for preventing the tribo-pairs from direct contact.

Herein, self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) are constructed on the surface of Ti3C2 MXene to improve its environmental stability and piezocatalytic activity. Ti3C2/SAMs-X (X = H, Cl, and NH2) was prepared to enhance the piezocatalytic degradation of bisphenol A (BPA) and hydrogen production. Surface-treated Ti3C2 exhibits different lattice parameters and symmetry, thus leading to an increased polarization. The presence of polar functional groups in SAMs remarkably increases the surface potential of Ti3C2, thereby promoting the migration of piezoelectric electrons. Ti3C2/SAMs-NH2 exhibits the highest piezocatalytic performance, thus improving BPA removal and H2 generation by 7 and 1.8 times, respectively. In addition, Ti3C2/SAMs-NH2 remained stable under 100% relative humidity for 15 days. Therefore, it provides a facile strategy for modulating piezocatalytic properties through interfacial self-assembly-induced lattice distortion.

A novel electrochemical sensor based on titanium carbide (Ti 3 C 2 ) and cobalt porphyrin (CoTMPyP) nanocomposite was developed to detect catechol (CC). X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) methods were used to characterize the CoTMPyP/Ti 3 C 2 nanocomposite and illuminate the electrochemical oxidation process, as well as electrochemical techniques such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) were measured. The results indicate that the introduction of CoTMPyP greatly enhanced the electron transfer capability and maintained high stability, good reproducibility, and interference resistance. Moreover, it has a lower detection limit (2.5 μM) in the range of 5–268 μM and has greater application potential in the detection of CC. Hence, Ti 3 C 2 nanocomposites are considered as a candidate material for combination with carbon materials and have potential applications in environmental analysis and catechol detection. Photoreduction of CO2 into useable hydrocarbon fuels has been widely used in the energy conversion field. However, the high carrier recombination rate and the low conversion efficiency of as-prepared catalysts greatly restrict their photocatalytic application. Herein, we synthesize Ti3C2/CsPbBr3 quantum dot (Ti3C2/CsPbBr3 QD) composites by the method of self-assembly, which are used in the photoreduction of CO2. As a result, Ti3C2/CsPbBr3 QD composites exhibit excellent photocatalytic activity and stability for the photocatalytic CO2 reduction. Especially, the generation rate of CO (17.98 μmol h–1 g–1) for Ti3C2/CsPbBr3 QD composites is 9.37 times higher than that of CsPbBr3 QDs (1.92 μmol h–1 g–1), and 97.35% of the activity is still retained after three consecutive cycles. The improved photocatalytic performance is mainly attributed to the construction of the type II-2 heterojunction as the built internal electric field (IEF) in the p–n junction could accelerate the separation for both photoinduced holes and electrons. Therefore, this work provides an insight into the construction of heterojunction photocatalysts with halide perovskite QD materials for photocatalytic applications.

Compared with traditional two-dimensional layered materials, MXene with metal-like conductivity has excellent chemical reaction activity and hydrophilicity, which can be used as ideal substrate materials. Nanocomposites with the non-noble metal based on MXene have important application prospects in the field of electrocatalytic decomposition of water. In this study, Co4MnFe3/Ti3C2 has been successfully synthesized only by the one-step method and prepared using ultrathin two-dimensional layered Ti3C2 as substrate materials, which is much more convenient than most electrocatalyst hybridization. The hybrid exhibits excellent electrochemical performance in alkaline media with an overpotential of 263 mV and Tafel slope of 26.3 mV·dec–1, which is much lower than that of its pure Co4MnFe3 counterparts and RuO2 catalyst in alkaline medium. When the current density reaches 10 mA/cm2, excellent long-range stability is displayed. Meanwhile, a fast reaction kinetics can also be obtained. Furthermore, density functional theory calculations reveal that, due to electron interactions and d-band center of metals, the enhanced density of states in the vicinity of the Fermi level has great influence on the oxygen evolution reaction property of the electrocatalyst via adjusting the adsorption strength of intermediates, which can improve the electrocatalytic performance of the hybrid. More importantly, this work provides a new approach for the electrolytic water oxygen evolution reaction of MXene-based catalysts in alkaline media and shed light on the exploration of advanced electrocatalysts for renewable energy conversion and storage systems.

Intracellular glutathione (GSH) sensing was important for monitoring many diseases and health of cell. In this study, we prepared surface-functionalized Ti 3 C 2 quantum dots (QDs) by ultrasonic cutting and hydrothermal method. Bright excitation wavelength-dependent blue emission was observed in Ti 3 C 2 QDs which was attributed to surface defects and quantum confinement effects. Furthermore, we developed a novel fluorescence sensor that can detect GSH with high sensitivity, based on the fluorescence resonance energy transfer process from Ti 3 C 2 quantum dots to GSH, with a detection limit of 0.02 μM approximately. This novel Ti 3 C 2 QD can be used as a promising fluorescent sensor for practical applications.

Various smart scaffolds have recently been developed to address the regeneration of tumor bone defect. However, the recurrence of residual tumor cells poses a serious challenge to postoperative management, highlighting the need for effective therapeutic interventions. In this study, a multifunctional antitumor nanoplatform (Ti3C2/CuO2) for synergistic chemo-sonodynamic tumor therapy was developed and then rationally integrated into a poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA) scaffold via selective laser sintering. CuO2 not only releases Cu2+ ions to facilitate chemodynamic antitumor therapy through the Fenton reaction but also generates H2O2, which further oxidizes Ti3C2 to produce TiO2 sonosensitizers. More importantly, the carbon-based substrates after oxidation of Ti3C2 have created favorable conditions for carrier transmission in the sonodynamic process, thereby amplifying the sonodynamic therapy. Additionally, moderate local hyperthermia form periodic sonodynamic therapy produces moderate localized heat therapy to further stimulate bone tissue regeneration. Meanwhile, the sustained release of bioactive ions (such as Cu and Ti ions) from the scaffold also fosters vascularization, further accelerating bone regeneration. This work presents a viable approach to developing multifunctional scaffolds for repairing tumorous bone defects.

Foreseen as foundational in forthcoming oncology interventions are multimodal therapeutic systems. Nevertheless, the tumor microenvironment (TME), marked by heightened glucose levels, hypoxia, and scant concentrations of endogenous hydrogen peroxide could potentially impair their effectiveness. In this research, two-dimensional (2D) Ti3C2 MXene nanosheets are engineered with CeO2 nanozymes and glucose oxidase (GOD), optimizing them for TME, specifically targeting cancer therapy. Following our therapeutic design, CeO2 nanozymes, embodying both peroxidase-like and catalase-like characteristics, enable transformation of H2O2 into hydroxyl radicals for catalytic therapy while also producing oxygen to mitigate hypoxia. Concurrently, GOD metabolizes glucose, thereby augmenting H2O2 levels and disrupting the intracellular energy supply. When subjected to a near-infrared laser, 2D Ti3C2 MXene accomplishes photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT), additionally amplifying cascade catalytic treatment via thermal enhancement. Empirical evidence demonstrates robust tumor suppression both in vitro and in vivo by the CeO2/Ti3C2-PEG-GOD nanocomposite. Consequently, this integrated approach, which combines PTT/PDT and enzymatic catalysis, could offer a valuable blueprint for the development of advanced oncology therapies.

Progress toward the integration of electronic sensors with a signal processing system is important for artificial intelligent and smart robotics. It demands mechanically robust, highly sensitive, and self-healable sensing materials which could generate discernible electric variations responding to external stimuli. Here, inspired by the supramolecular interactions of amino acid residues in proteins, we report a self-healable nanostructured Ti3C2MXenes/rubber-based supramolecular elastomer (NMSE) for intelligent sensing. MXene nanoflakes modified with serine through an esterification reaction assemble with an elastomer matrix, constructing delicate dynamic supramolecular hydrogen bonding interfaces. NMSE features desirable recovered toughness (12.34 MJ/m3) and excellent self-healing performance (∼100%) at room temperature. The NMSE-based sensor with high gauge factor (107.43), low strain detection limit (0.1%), and fast responding time (50 ms) can precisely detect subtle human motions (including speech, facial expression, pulse, and heartbeat) and moisture variations even after cut/healing processes. Moreover, NMSE-based sensors integrated with a complete signal process system show great feasibility for speech-controlled motions, which demonstrates promising potential in future wearable electronics and soft intelligent robotics.

Temperature fluctuations caused by sunlight represent a form of low-quality thermal energy that is generally insufficient for driving chemical reactions. Here, we designed a ZnO–MXene (Ti3C2) heterostructure catalyst, which can harvest solar near-infrared (NIR) energy to drive the sluggish ammonia production reaction using water and N2 as the feedstock. Our research confirmed that ammonia was produced through a pyroelectric process, rather than a photocatalytic process. The ZnO–MXene heterostructure with ∼20 wt% of Ti3C2 exhibited a 6.5-fold improvement in activity compared to bare ZnO. The Ti3C2 not only harvests NIR energy to heat up the pyroelectric ZnO, but also traps the pyro electrons from ZnO and co-catalyzes the reduction of N2 to ammonia. This work offers a novel strategy for ammonia production utilizing the abundant solar NIR energy under ambient conditions.

Ti 3 C 2 QDs with good water solubility and photoluminescence properties was prepared by nitrogen and phosphorus doping (N,P-Ti 3 C 2 QDs). The probe has a fluorescence emission peak at 420 nm and emits bright blue fluorescence, which can distinguish and detect two antibiotics with similar structures, chlortetracycline (CTC) and tetracycline (TC). The fluorescence enhancement effect can be realized by the interaction with CTC. The linear range is 2–22 μM, and the detection limit is as low as 0.53 μM. And the change of fluorescent color from bright blue to bright purple can be observed with the naked eye. At the same time, with the addition of TC, the fluorescence of N,P-Ti 3 C 2 QDs can be quenched by static quenching effect, and the fluorescence color changes from bright blue to yellowish green. The detection range is 4.1–20.5 μM, and the detection limit is as low as 0.16 μM.Therefore, on this basis, a strategy for simultaneous detection and recognition of CTC and TC is proposed. The method has been successfully applied to the determination of CTC and TC in milk samples. This paper provides a new detection method for the identification of tetracycline antibiotics and taps the application potential of Ti 3 C 2 QDs in food detection.
