The wear and corrosion resistance of water-based polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coating need to be further improved to cope with various harsh environmental conditions. In this paper, a mulberry-like ZSM-5 molecular sieve was prepared and then was modified to enhance the uniformity, wear resistance and hardness of PTFE coating. In addition, a ZSM-5/MoS2/PTFE coating was developed by adding MoS2 in the chemical composition of coatings, which significantly increased the critical cracking thickness of PTFE to 27 μm. The wear amount of ZSM-5/MoS2/PTFE coating is only 5.7 mg, and after 680 h of salt spray, there is no obvious corrosion on the surface. The friction coefficients under applied loads of 5 N, 10 N, and 20 N are 0.007, 0.057, and 0.055, respectively. The experiment results show that the coating possesses excellent lubrication, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, and its performance and cost are far superior to commercial products.

Bifunctional Pt-zeolite catalysts have shown outstanding activity for hydrogen-water isotope exchange due to the highly-efficient synergy between metal and Brønsted acid. However, the aggregation and sintering of Pt particles during this reaction impose the great difficulties for their practical applications. Here, the highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles were embedded into framework or channeled within micropores of ZSM-5 by one-pot hydrothermal synthesis to form the encapsulated catalysts. For comparison, a supported one with Pt species predominantly dewelled on the extra-framework was prepared to interrogate their catalytic durabilities during H 2 -HDO isotope exchange. The similarly catalytic efficacy of metal-acid enables the encapsulated and supported ones to share the same reaction pathway by the protonated water clusters on acid sites to deliver deuteron to reactive ones for the interfacial hydrogen isotope exchange between Pt and water cluster, leading to the measured reaction rate and activation energy to be comparable. During the long-term running, the encapsulated Pt-zeolite catalyst exhibits the superior stability with the ignorable activity loss due to the physical constraint effect to suppress the migration of Pt species. However, the absence of this effect upon the supported one causes the severe sintering and agglomeration of metal species, which greatly deteriorates the catalytic exchange. Graphical Pt nanoparticles were hydrothermally introduced within ZSM-5 framework for the liquid-phase hydrogen-water isotope exchange. This encapsulated structure exhibited the exceptional durability in long-term running, due to the inhibition of Pt species migration by the physical confinement effect of rigid framework.

A novel organosiloxane (KHPA) was synthesized using 3-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS) and propylamine as raw materials. The effects of KHPA addition on the physicochemical properties of hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolite were investigated. The synthesized zeolite samples were systematically characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), low-temperature N 2 adsorption-desorption, x-ray fluorescence (XRF), thermogravimetric (TG) analysis, and ammonia temperature-programmed desorption (NH 3 -TPD). The results indicated that the addition of KHPA into the synthesis system hindered the growth of zeolite crystals, leading to the formation of abundant inter-crystalline mesopores. When the KHPA addition amount was 6 g, the synthesized sample exhibited the highest external surface area (303.5 m 2 /g) and mesopore volume (0.38 cm 3 /g), and the SEM and TEM images revealed intergranular mesopores formed by the stacking of nanoparticles. Furthermore, the Z-KHPA-6 sample exhibited optimal catalytic performance in the trimethylbenzene isomerization reaction, demonstrating a 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene mass conversion of 36.26%, 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene mass yield of 22.61%, and 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene selectivity of 62.36%. Graphical Using GPTMS and propylamine as raw materials, a novel organosiloxane KHPA was synthesized as a mesoporous template. A hierarchically porous ZSM-5 zeolite was successfully prepared via the hydrothermal method. The introduction of KHPA into the synthesis system impeded the crystal growth of the zeolite, resulting in abundant intercrystalline mesopores. This unique pore structure effectively enhanced the isomerization of 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, significantly improving catalytic efficiency and reaction selectivity.

Bio-enhanced zeolite nanoplatform (NQZ@ZSM-5) engineered for dentin interfaces. • Synergistic antibacterial, anti-degradation, and remineralization at biointerfaces. • Aged bond strength increases ~2.03× versus a commercial adhesive. • Excellent biocompatibility with preserved interfacial adhesion performance. Dentin adhesives are essential for minimally invasive restorative dentistry. However, the long-term stability of the resin−dentin interface remains limited due to collagen degradation and bacterial erosion. Achieving synergistic antibacterial activity, collagen cross-linking, and remineralization at this interface is therefore crucial for durable dentin bonding. Quercetin (QC), a natural polyphenol, possesses both antibacterial activity and collagen cross-linking capability. These properties can be further enhanced through coordination with metal ions to form metal–phenolic networks (MPNs). In this study, we used the NGV peptide, derived from bone sialoprotein (BSP, a non-collagenous protein), as a remineralization motif. We combined NGV with an MPN to construct a bio-enhanced nanoplatform (NGV/QC−Zn@ZSM-5) for dentin adhesives. The nanoplatform was prepared by incorporating Zn 2+ into ZSM 5 zeolites, followed by surface coating with a QC−Zn MPN and subsequent functionalization with NGV. ZSM-5 serves as a multifunctional carrier due to its high ion-exchange capacity, tunable surface chemistry, and ability to enable controlled Zn 2+ release. The resulting system is designed to stabilize collagen, inhibit bacterial biofilm formation, and promote dentin remineralization. This integrated strategy strengthens the resin−dentin interface against both enzymatic and bacterial degradation, thereby improving bonding durability. Notably, after aging, the modified adhesive exhibited a bond strength approximately 2.03-fold higher than that of the commercial control. Overall, these results highlight the strong potential of this nanoplatform to enhance the longevity and clinical performance of dental bonding restorations.

Efficient acrolein production at lower temperature (200 °C). • Optimal acidity identified by tuning the Si/Al ratio in ZSM-5. • Trace Fe enhanced yield 2.4 times more and improved coke resistance. • Synergistic promotion of glycerol dehydration by Brønsted and Lewis acids. The catalytic dehydration of glycerol to acrolein represents a sustainable route for biomass valorization. However, most reported systems require high temperatures or pressure, which limits energy efficiency and sustainability. Furthermore, the relationship between catalyst acidity and acrolein formation in the liquid phase remains inadequately understood. In this work, we demonstrate that nano-sized ZSM-5 zeolites enable high acrolein selectivity under notably milder conditions (200 °C, 1.2 MPa). 0.3 % Fe-modified ZSM-5 (60) catalyst exhibits an acrolein yield rate 2.4 times higher than unmodified zeolite, achieving 41.3 % glycerol yield with 84.2 % selectivity. This enhancement originates from a tailored Brønsted-Lewis acid synergy, wherein Brønsted sites steer the reaction pathway while adjacent Fe-derived Lewis sites promote the dehydration steps. This study not only provides an efficient low-temperature strategy for glycerol conversion but also clarifies the role of acid-site synergy in liquid-phase dehydration, offering a rational approach for designing durable and selective catalysts. A series of ZSM-5 catalysts with varying Si/Al ratios were synthesized via a one-pot hydrothermal method, among which ZSM-5 (60) was identified as the optimal candidate due to its appropriate Brønsted acidity. To further enhance the cycling stability, an Fe-modified ZSM-5 catalyst was constructed by the introduce of Fe, which generated additional Lewis acid sites, creating a synergistic Brønsted-Lewis acid system. In the low-temperature (200 °C) dehydration of glycerol to acrolein, the Fe/ZSM-5 (60) catalyst achieved an acrolein yield 2.4 times than that of the unmodified ZSM-5 (60), while also exhibiting significantly improved resistance to coke formation. The catalytic selectivity of heterogeneous reaction can be effectively regulated by the design of the thickness of zeolite in zeolite-supported noble metal catalysts. Herein, taking the industrially important hydrogenolysis of the biomass-derived compound vanillin as an example, ZSM-5 zeolite with a thinner b -axis (75 nm) loaded with platinum particles (denoted as Pt/ut-ZSM-5) exhibited 99% conversion and 97% selectivity toward the target product 2-methoxy-4-methylphenol. In contrast, the ZSM-5-supported platinum catalyst with a longer b -axis (175 nm) showed only 63.4% conversion and 50% selectivity, respectively. Molecular dynamics simulations reveal that the translocation times for intermediate vanillyl alcohol through thinner ZSM-5 is longer than vanillin, and the diffusion of 2-methoxy-4-methylphenol in thinner ZSM-5 is faster than that of vanillin. The dynamics of vanillin, vanillyl alcohol and 2-methoxy-4-methylphenol exhibit discontinuous behavior, accompanied by intermittent kinetic restrictions arising from free energy barriers within the straight tunnel of ZSM-5. The translocation times of vanillin and vanillyl alcohol through the thicker ZSM-5 zeolite are typically longer than those through the thinner one; the movement of vanillyl alcohol is still slower than vanillin in thicker zeolite. The slower release of intermediate vanillyl alcohol in both thinner and thicker ZSM-5 demonstrates the possible rate-limiting step in the reaction-diffusion process. Graphical Ultrathin b -axis ZSM-5 accelerates the diffusion of reactants and intermediate by-products to the external surface, where they react with the supported Pt particles, resulting in excellent catalytic hydrogenation performance. Under mild conditions, the catalyst achieved complete vanillin (VAN) conversion and over 97% selectivity toward 2-methoxy-4-methylphenol (MMP).

Efficient zeolitic recycling of polyolefin waste into C2–C4 light olefins offers an attractive route toward resource recovery; however, conventional zeolite catalysts suffer from severe mass transport limitations that lead to undesired secondary reactions and coke formation. Here, we report a “structure modulation and intelligent optimization” strategy to develop hierarchical ZSM-5 (H-ZSM-5), integrating tailored mesoporosity and crystal size control via Bayesian optimization (BO). Catalytic performance was evaluated in a two-stage system combining thermal pyrolysis and subsequent catalytic cracking. BO efficiently navigates this multivariate design space, identifying an optimal architecture (∼100 nm crystals, 4.0 nm mesopores) that achieved 92.6 wt % total gas yield and 85.1 wt % light olefin selectivity at 500 °C with a low catalyst-to-feed ratio (0.2). The nanoscale H-ZSM-5 also exhibited durability over 40 consecutive cycles and broad compatibility with postconsumer plastic mixtures. Mechanistic studies revealed that the synergy between nanoscale morphology and hierarchical porosity enhances mass transport and acid site accessibility, demonstrating that complex catalyst architectures can be precisely optimized via artificial intelligence strategies, such as BO.

Despite single-crystalline hierarchical zeolites exhibit catalytic promise, their synthesis still necessitates energy-intensive and environmentally detrimental high-temperature calcination to remove organic templates. Herein, we introduce a sustainable approach for synthesizing large-sized single-crystalline hierarchical ZSM-5 using an acid-degradable polymer (ADP) as a versatile template. The ADP not only facilitates the formation of ZSM-5 with a broad range of n(SiO 2 )/n(Al 2 O 3 ) ratios and tunable mesoporosity but also undergoes complete removal from the zeolite during the Na-to-H acid exchange without calcination. Mechanistic investigations reveal that ADP induces the formation of ZSM-5 framework by interacting with hydroxyl groups and Q 2 /Q 4 Si species while simultaneously guiding the ordered assembly of nanocrystals to achieve a single-crystalline and hierarchical structure. Notably, ADP, acting as a hard template, remains embedded within the hierarchical pores during crystallization. Life cycle assessment (LCA) demonstrates that this strategy significantly reduces environmental impacts when compared to traditional synthesis methods. The resulting zeolite shows superior thermal stability and enhanced mass transport properties due to its unique single-crystalline and hierarchical structure, translating to exceptional catalytic performance in low-density polyethylene pyrolysis and methanol-to-propylene reactions. This work offers an eco-friendly paradigm for zeolite fabrication by leveraging ADP’s availability, low cost, and acid degradability, and aligns with green chemistry principles.

Bimetallic CrGaO x /ZSM-5 catalyst balances activity-selectivity trade-off in propane dehydrogenation. • Ga species modulates the Cr-O-Cr coordination environment, facilitates C H bond activation and simultaneously stabilizes the Cr 6+ /Cr 3+ redox cycle. • In-situ DRIFTS reveals Cr Ga synergy promotes propyl intermediate formation at low temperature. • O 2 regeneration effectively restores Cr 6+ active sites and removes coke deposits, ensuring sustained catalytic performance. Developing highly active and stable catalysts for propane dehydrogenation (PDH) is crucial for propylene production, yet it is normally hampered by the trade-off between C 3 H 8 conversion and C 3 H 6 selectivity. Herein, we construct a series of bimetallic CrGaO x /ZSM-5 catalysts to mitigate this intrinsic challenge. The optimized Cr 3 Ga 3 O x /ZSM-5 catalyst achieves a propane conversion of 38.7% with a propylene selectivity of 84.3% at 600 °C and maintains stable propylene productivity over 40 h of continuous operation. Results reveal that Ga 3+ incorporation modifies the Cr-O-Cr coordination environment, thus enhancing propane activation and formation of propyl intermediates. The structural modification suppresses Cr 3+ over-reduction to Cr 0 , maintaining the Cr 6+ /Cr 3+ redox cycle over extended reaction periods. Furthermore, O 2 regeneration effectively removes coke deposits and restores active sites. This work provides mechanistic insights into the Cr Ga electronic and structural synergy and offers a design strategy for stable chromium-based PDH catalysts. The incorporation of Ga 3+ modulates the Cr-O-Cr coordination environment, facilitating C H bond activation while suppressing undesired C C bond cleavage, and simultaneously stabilizes the Cr 6+ /Cr 3+ redox cycle by preventing over-reduction of Cr 6+ to inactive Cr 0 . O 2 -mediated regeneration effectively restores active Cr 6+ sites and removes coke deposits, enabling a reversible deactivation-regeneration cycle. The optimized Cr 3 Ga 3 O x /ZSM-5(300) catalyst achieves a propane conversion of 38.7% with a propylene selectivity of 84.3% at 600 °C under standard conditions, and delivers a superior performance of 62.1% conversion with 90.6% selectivity under lower WHSV. The catalytic pyrolysis of biomass is a sustainable approach for biofuel production, contributing to replacing fossil resources with renewable resources . The ZSM-5 zeolite remains an attractive catalyst in the catalytic pyrolysis of biomass, and how to reduce the product diffusion resistance and regulate the surface acidity of ZSM-5 should be explored more deeply. Herein, a hierarchical gallium-modified ZSM-5@SBA-15 catalyst is fabricated through coating a mesoporous layered SBA-15 shell on a hollow ZSM-5 core with gallium modified on the surface, which is effective for increasing hydrocarbon production during the catalytic pyrolysis of biomass process. The synergistic effect of hollowness, mesoporosity, and activity in the hierarchical gallium-modified ZSM-5@SBA-15 catalysts is found to affect the yield and quality of bio-oil. Accordingly, the hierarchical gallium-modified ZSM-5@SBA-15 catalyst with 11 wt% Ga loading exhibits a superior deoxygenation ability, and the relative content of hydrocarbons in bio-oil reach to 49.76 area% which is much higher than that of ZSM-5 (35.30 area%). Furthermore, a possible catalytic pyrolysis mechanism of biomass was also proposed to clarify the potential application of hierarchical gallium-modified ZSM-5@SBA-15 catalysts.

Graphical Y/ZSM-5 composite zeolite was synthesized by an aerosol-assisted hydrothermal method including a two-step crystallization. The structure and acidity of the composite zeolite can be modulated by monitoring the synthesis conditions. Y/ZSM-5 composite zeolite was synthesized by an aerosol assisted hydrothermal method including a two-step crystallization. The aerosol technique was used to prepare the precursor of Y/ZSM-5 composite zeolite. This helped to fully utilize the amorphous silica-alumina species left in the primary crystallization solution of NaY zeolite, and to bring the two zeolites close to each other during the second crystallization step. The optimal adding sequence and synthesis conditions were investigated to reduce the amount of template and accelerate the crystallization rate. The composite zeolites were analyzed using XRD, SEM, nitrogen physical adsorption, NH 3 -TPD techniques. It was found that the acid properties can be adjusted by modulating the SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 molar ratio of the secondary crystallization feed. The BET specific surface area of the optimal Y/ZSM-5(20) composite zeolite is 502 m 2 /g, the pyrolysis conversion rate of 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene reaches 95.1 %, and the selectivity to benzene reaches 53.4 %.

Bifunctional catalysts composed of ZnCrO x oxide and ZSM-5 were widely used in syngas-to-aromatics (STA). The CO conversion on bifunctional catalysts was generally higher than that on oxide catalysts attributed to the pulling effect of zeolite, but the key factor for the improvement of CO conversion was still short of systematical explanation. In this work, the degree of nonstoichiometric spinel of ZnCrO x (ZxC) oxides was finely tuned through modulating the ratio of Zn/Cr, which could significantly influence the catalytic behaviors of ZnCrO x /ZSM-5 catalysts for the CO hydrogenation to aromatics. The increase of nonstoichiometric spinel corresponded to the increase of oxygen vacancies and the enhancement of Zn-Cr synergistic effect, which promoted the activation of H 2 and CO, leading to a dramatic increase of CO conversion. The work revealed that the action of ZnO and oxygen vacancies was the key factor for CO pulling in ZnCrO x oxide and ZSM-5 catalyzed STA reaction.
