BiCuSeO has attracted significant interest in the field of thermoelectric materials due to its layered crystalline structure, along with advantages such as abundant elemental availability, low thermal conductivity, and outstanding thermal stability. However, the inherently low electrical conductivity of BiCuSeOlimiting overall thermoelectricperformance. To address this, as an effective strategy to enhance thermoelectric performance, BiCuSeO was subjected to tri-element co-doping. Bi 1−3x (CaSrBa) x CuSeO (x = 0.0, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, and 0.05) ceramics were synthesized using an advanced fabrication process that combined high-energy ball milling with hot-press sintering techniques. Substituting Ca 2+ , Sr 2+ , and Ba 2+ at the Bi 3+ sites effectively optimized the carrier concentration, increased the effective mass, and significantly enhanced the electrical conductivity from 9.67 to 91.55 S cm −1 . Notably, the power factor of the Bi 0.88 (CaSrBa) 0.04 CuSeO sample reached 476.54 μW m −1 K −2 at 323 K. and electrical conductivity. Simultaneously, the introduction of lattice defects through co-doping considerably enhanced phonon scattering, reducing the lattice thermal conductivity to 0.342 W m −1 K −1 for Bi 0.85 (CaSrBa) 0.05 CuSeO, compared with 0.447 W m −1 K −1 for the pristine sample. Consequently, a maximum dimensionless figure of merit ( ZT ) of 0.65 was achieved at 773 K for Bi 0.88 (CaSrBa) 0.04 CuSeO. These findings provide valuable insights into improving the thermoelectric performance of BiCuSeO-based materials through multi-element co-doping.

Polyurethane (PU) is widely used for ureteral stent, due to its low cost, good shape memory, and excellent biocompatibility. However, a major drawback of PU stents is their susceptibility to encrustation, where mineral deposits accumulate on the stent surface, potentially leading to blockage and infection. To address these challenges, this work proposes a polyacrylamide sodium alginate-calcium ion (PAAm/SA-Ca 2+ ) hydrogel coatings on PU and systematically evaluated the lubrication properties, mechanical stability, and anti-encrustation property of the coatings. PAAm/SA-Ca²⁺ hydrogel coatings of ~ 60 μm were successfully constructed on polyurethane surfaces using 3-(Trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (TMSPMA) as a bridging agent. Friction tests showed that friction coefficient of the coated surface was reduced from 0.85 (pristine PU) to 0.07, significantly enhancing the lubrication performance of PU. In vitro simulated urine mineralization immersion experiments confirmed that the modified surface reduced encrustation deposition by 92% within 7 days.

In microwave communication, combining a high quality factor ( Q×f ; i.e., low dielectric loss) with a near-zero temperature coefficient of resonant frequency ( τ f ) remains a significant challenge. Here, we propose to enhance the structural stability of the rock-salt and perovskite layers in K 2 NiF 4 -type ceramics by using entropy engineering methods, thereby reducing dielectric loss and improving the temperature stability of the resonant frequency. Novel high-entropy ceramics Ca(Pr 0.2 Nd 0.2 Sm 0.2 Eu 0.2 Y 0.2 )AlO 4 with a K 2 NiF 4 structure have been synthesized via the solid-state reaction method. Excellent microwave dielectric properties with a low permittivity ( ε r ) of 19.4, a Q×f of 105,223 GHz, and a near-zero τ f of −6.23 ppm/°C were obtained at 1400 °C. A significant enhancement in the mechanical properties of Ca(Pr 0.2 Nd 0.2 Sm 0.2 Eu 0.2 Y 0.2 )AlO 4 ceramic was achieved due to the improvement of configuration entropy. Furthermore, a cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) was developed, showcasing a high simulated radiation efficiency of 93.9 % and a gain of 6.66 dBi at the center frequency of 3.25 GHz. This indicates that Ca(Pr 0.2 Nd 0.2 Sm 0.2 Eu 0.2 Y 0.2 )AlO 4 high-entropy ceramic holds promising applications in satellite communication due to its low dielectric loss.

Green metal-electrode batteries call for the clean production of s-block metals. Herein, we developed an electrolysis–displacement–distillation (EDD) approach for producing s-block metals with low-carbon emissions and no chlorine gas evolution. The clean production stems from the choice of a molten NaCl–Na2CO3 electrolyte to prevent chlorine gas evolution, an inert nickel-based anode to produce oxygen, and a liquid metal cathode to make the cathodic product (e.g., Na–Sn) sit at the bottom of the electrolytic cell. Later, M–Sn (M = Li, Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba) alloys were successfully prepared by a displacement reaction between the Na–Sn alloy and molten NaCl–LiCl, NaCl–MgCl2, NaCl–CaCl2, NaCl–SrCl2, or NaCl–BaCl2 with a displacement efficiency of >96.0%. Furthermore, Li, Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba metals were separated from M–Sn alloys using vacuum distillation with a separation rate of >95.0%. We achieved a current efficiency of 81.0% for the electrolytic production of 100 kg of a liquid Na–Sn alloy, which holds promise to produce s-block metals at a large scale.

Objectives The hybrid layer formed during dentin bonding remains susceptible to degradation. This study aimed to develop a CaCl₂/AgF treatment strategy for in situ deposition of Ca–Ag hybrid nanoparticles within the demineralized dentin matrix (DDM) and to evaluate its effects on interface-confined water regulation, antibiofilm activity, mineral deposition, and ultimately bonding durability. Materials and methods DDM was sequentially treated with CaCl₂ and AgF solutions. Interface-confined water regulation was assessed by surface potential, water uptake, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Antibiofilm activity against Streptococcus mutans ( S. mutans ) and saliva-derived microcosm biofilms was evaluated by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Mineral deposition was examined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED). Adhesive infiltration, nanoleakage, and microtensile bond strength (1 day and 12 months) were tested. Results Ca–Ag deposition was associated with reduced interfacial hydration, as indicated by reduced surface potential, decreased water uptake, and lower mass loss below 200 °C in TGA. It inhibited biofilm formation and disrupted established biofilms. Enhanced mineral deposition occurred within 1 h in the Ca–Ag group, with SAED patterns showing crystalline mineral phases, whereas controls remained unmineralized. Enhanced adhesive infiltration, reduced nanoleakage, and improved 12-month bond strength were observed. Conclusions Sequential CaCl₂/AgF treatment induced the in situ deposition of Ca–Ag hybrid nanoparticles within the DDM, which was associated with reduced interfacial hydration, antibiofilm activity, mineral deposition, and improved bonding performance in vitro. Clinical Significance This in vitro study suggests that CaCl₂/AgF treatment may represent a potential strategy for improving resin–dentin interface stability. Further investigations are required to evaluate its clinical applicability.

HighlightsDynamic shift of oxygen mediator from Ca to metallic Y by increasing chlorine potential, explaining non-monotonic O variation in Zr.Establishment of three-phase equilibrium (Y–YOCl–YCl3) enabling in-depth deoxidation of Zr down to 20 ppm at 1173 K.Synergistic mechanism of O and Cl potentials clarified, providing a novel framework for designing efficient gettering systems.Zirconium (Zr) is a strategic metal resource whose performance is significantly degraded by high oxygen content. The external gettering process is an effective approach for in-depth deoxidation of Zr. In this study, the deoxidation behavior of Zr in the Ca-Y-CaCl2external gettering system was investigated by adjusting the chlorine potential through YCl3addition. The change of oxygen potential and its synergistic control mechanism during the variation of chlorine potential were systematically examined. The results demonstrated that with increasing chlorine potential, the system undergoes a sequence of reactions: chlorination of Ca, formation of metallic Y, formation of YOCl, dissolution of Y2O3, and formation of YCl3, ultimately reaching a three-phase equilibrium of Y-YOCl-YCl3. During this process, the oxygen content of Zr fluctuates notably, which is primarily attributed to the shift in the oxygen-transfer medium from Ca to Y. This transition changes the oxygen potential control mechanism from indirect Y-Ca control to direct Y control. After reaching equilibrium at 1173 K for 72 h, the equilibrium oxygen content of Zr initially remains stable with increasing chlorine potential, then gradually decreases, eventually reaching 20 ppmw. This trend is consistent with the mutual interaction of oxygen potential and chlorine potential. The findings provide important theoretical insights into the interaction between oxygen and chlorine potentials in deoxidation systems, elucidate the multi-element synergistic mechanism for oxygen control, and contribute to the design of efficient deoxidation systems.

Organic-based frameworks are increasingly recognized as promising cathode materials for aqueous zinc–ion batteries (AZIBs), owing to their structural specificity and renewable/safety nature. The electrochemical performance, however, is less than optimal due to the inadequate structural stability and poor electronic/ionic conductivity of the organic-based frameworks, resulting in rapid capacity decay and poor rate capability. Herein, a crepe cake structured Ca-Organic-CNT framework is designed to address these two problems. In this material architecture, the porous carbon nanotube (CNT) network facilitates efficient electron transfer and enhances structural stability, while Ca-Organic frameworks with crystal enlargement boost Zn 2+ intercalation and release. The hybrid material exhibits balanced high performance with respect to specific capacity and cycling stability. A reversible specific capacity of 475 mAh g −1 is achieved at 50 mA g −1 with a high capacity retention rate of 91% even after 400 cycles. This work provides a strategy for the rational design of organic electrode materials for high performance AZIBs.

Lignin-derived Ca-MOF carbon nanofibers enabled efficient fluoride CDI. • CMDNF achieved a fluoride electrosorption capacity of 26.81 mg·g −1 . • Fluoride concentration decreased from 10 to 1.15 mg·L −1 . • The electrode retained 91.27% capacitance after 5000 cycles. • CMDNF retained 75.38% adsorption capacity after 15 regeneration cycles. Valorization of renewable lignin into high-performance electrochemical materials offers a sustainable route for advanced water treatment, yet achieving efficient fluoride removal together with long-term electrode stability remains challenging. Herein, we report a hierarchical Ca-MOF/lignin-derived carbon nanofiber (CMDNF) electrode fabricated via in situ solvothermal growth of a Ca-based metal–organic framework on electrospun lignin nanofibers, followed by controlled carbonization. This strategy converts biomass-derived nanofibers into a conductive and hierarchically porous carbon framework integrated with Ca-containing surface environments favorable for fluoride electrosorption. Structural characterization reveals that Ca species are uniformly distributed throughout the carbon architecture, while the lignin-derived framework provides structural robustness, efficient electron transport, and improved ion-accessible pathways. The optimized CMDNF electrode exhibits a specific capacitance of 163F·g −1 at 2 mV·s −1 and retains 91.27% of its initial capacitance after 5000 charge–discharge cycles, demonstrating good electrochemical stability. In fluoride electrosorption experiments, it delivers a maximum adsorption capacity of 26.81 mg·g −1 and reduces the fluoride concentration from 10 mg·L −1 to 1.15 mg·L −1 under model-solution conditions, below the WHO guideline value of 1.5 mg·L −1 . XPS and EPR analyses suggest that the enhanced fluoride removal arises from the combined contribution of Ca-containing oxygen-coordinated surface environments, defect-rich carbon surfaces, and electric double-layer electrosorption. This work demonstrates a feasible strategy for converting lignin into high-performance CDI electrodes and provides useful insight into the rational design of biomass-derived hierarchical materials for fluoride removal at electrode–electrolyte interfaces. Benzene, as a ubiquitous and carcinogenic volatile organic compound (VOC), presents substantial health risks through inhalation exposure from ambient indoor environments and cigarette mainstream smoke, necessitating the development of advanced adsorbent materials. Herein, zeolitic imidazolate framework-8/cellulose acetate (ZIF-8/CA) composite porous carbon materials were synthesized via a dual emulsion-solvent evaporation method coupled with subsequent high-temperature carbonization. Systematic studies were conducted to evaluate the effects of ZIF-8/CA mass ratios on the microstructure, pore architecture, and the benzene adsorption property. The results of the relevant characterizations revealed that the composite prepared at a 4/6 mass ratio exhibited an excellent BET specific surface area with the highest value of 1380 m 2 /g and mesopore volume of 0.77 cm 3 /g, alongside a well-defined hierarchical pore network spanning microporous, mesoporous, and macroporous regimes. Dynamic benzene vapor adsorption tests demonstrated that this optimized formulation achieved a dynamic saturation adsorption capacity of 235.0 mg/g. Kinetic analysis employing the Apiratikul-Chu and Adams-Bohart models yielded high correlation coefficients, indicating that benzene adsorption was governed by surface adsorption and mass‑transfer mechanisms. When applied in cigarette mainstream smoke purification, the ZIF-8/CA composite exhibited a benzene removal efficiency of 49.0%, significantly outperforming the ZIF-8/polylactic acid (PLA) composite (20.7%). This enhanced efficacy stemmed from the cooperative interplay between the hierarchical porosity and enhanced π-π stacking interactions. This work underscores the ZIF‑8/CA composite porous carbon as a promising candidate for benzene abatement, with potential applications in cigarette filter modification and indoor air purification.

CoFe 2 O 4 (CFO) was identified as one of the potential cathode materials for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). However, optimization was required due to limitations of electrochemical performance. Here effects of Ca doping on CFO were investigated for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) properties. Co 1-x Ca x Fe 2 O 4 (CCxFO, x = 0, 0.2 (CC2FO), 0.4 (CC4FO)) were synthesized with sol-gel method. Oxygen vacancy concentration was increased by Ca doping enhancing the electrochemical performance of CFO. At 750 °C, the polarization resistance (R p ) of CC4FO was 1.04 Ω·cm 2 , which was 1.09 Ω·cm 2 lower than that of CFO (2.13 Ω·cm 2 ). The electronic conductivity value (σ) of CC4FO was 0.614 at 750 °C and the activation energy (E a ) of CC4FO was 102.81 kJ/mol. The results indicated that improvements in the ORR activity of the CFO spinel material were mainly attributed to an increase in oxygen vacancy concentration and oxygen surface exchange rate due to Ca doping, CC4FO showed promising potential as SOFC cathode.

Introduction Ion interference therapy has emerged as a promising new treatment for Osteosarcoma (OS). However, its efficacy is significantly restricted by inadequate hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) under the complex tumor microenvironment (TME). Objectives This study aimed to supply sufficient H 2 O 2 to enhance tumor therapy efficacy and address the limitations associated with ion interference. Methods A hollow manganese dioxide (HMnO 2 ) nanoplatform loaded with calcium peroxide (CaO 2 ) (denoted as HMnO 2 @CaO 2 ) was evaluated for biosafety through hemolysis tests. The functionality of HMnO 2 @CaO 2 was further validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and cytometric analysis. Results Excessive Ca 2+ accumulation induces endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, enhances oxidative stress, and causes mitochondrial damage. Notably, Mn 2+ facilitates treatment monitoring through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Additionally, Mn 2+ -induced ferroptosis triggers an immune response that promotes the polarization of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), transforming the pro-tumoral M2 phenotype into the tumoricidal M1 phenotype, thereby enhancing the efficacy of immunotherapy. Conclusion In conclusion, HMnO 2 @CaO 2 nanoplatform enhances tumor therapy efficacy by overcoming ferroptosis limitations, inducing Ca 2+ overload, and boosting anti-tumor immunity. This strategy offers a promising approach to ion interference in the clinical translation of nanomedicines. Furthermore, it marks a significant advancement in osteosarcoma (OS) treatment and underscores the transformative potential of nanotechnology in medicine.

Cyclic stability is a key factor in the design of thermochemical heat storage systems . Because carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) may react with heat storage materials and lead to a decrease in energy storage efficiency, the effect of CO 2 on Ca(OH) 2 /CaO and Mg(OH) 2 /MgO systems is investigated in this study. The experimental results show that CO 2 reacts with CaO in the water vapor that appears during the heat release process. Therefore, in the design of Ca(OH) 2 /CaO systems, CO 2 should be cleared from the system. The results from Mg(OH) 2 /MgO systems show that CO 2 only slightly reacts with MgO and Mg(OH) 2 during heat storage and release processes. This study indicates that carbonic acid (H 2 CO 3 ) could easily react with CaO/Ca(OH) 2 to form CaCO 3 during heat release processes. Generally, the remaining CO 2 reduces the reversibility of Ca(OH) 2 /CaO systems but has only a slight influence on Mg(OH) 2 /MgO systems. In addition, the experimental results show that carbonate shell does not exist in rehydration for both of the CaO/MgO samples, but the influence of CO 2 on the entire process increases after each cycle.
