The photocatalytic performance of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) in the conversion of CO 2 to CH 3 OH is intrinsically constrained by its limited selectivity and activity. Herein, we developed a dual-modification strategy that integrates S doping into the g-C 3 N 4 (CN) skeleton and constructed a 2D/2D S-doped g-C 3 N 4 /Bi 2 MoO 6 Z-scheme heterojunction (SCN/BMO) via microwave-assisted synthesis. This strategy achieved sulfur doping through N-site substitution to modulate the electronic structure of CN, resulting in the formation of a 2D/2D SCN/BMO Z-scheme heterojunction. The optimized 0.3SCN/BMO photocatalyst achieved a methanol production rate of 6.19 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 with 99.15 % selectivity under solar irradiation, showing a 5.16-fold and 2.60-fold enhancement in catalytic activity compared to pristine g-C 3 N 4 and Bi 2 MoO 6 (BMO), respectively. Meanwhile, it demonstrated excellent photocatalytic and structural stability during the cycling tests. Systematic characterization analyses have revealed that the synergistic light-harvesting effect, optimized interfacial coupling, and efficient charge transport pathways within the 2D/2D 0.3SCN/BMO Z-scheme heterostructure collectively contribute to the significant enhancement in photocatalytic performance. Moreover, a feasible photocatalytic mechanism has been put forward by combining the outcomes of in-situ DRIFT spectroscopic analysis with DFT computational modeling. This research finding provides an innovative strategy for the development of highly efficient photocatalysts, which are specifically designed for the selective reduction conversion of CO 2 to CH 3 OH.

To address the remediation needs of antibiotic-contaminated water, this study developed a highly efficient and stable novel photocatalyst. A 2D/3D S-scheme g-C 3 N 4 /Bi 2 MoO 6 (CN/BMO) heterojunction was synthesized via a simple preparation method, with its core mechanism relying on the internal electric field (IEF) formed at the semiconductor interface. This field actively regulates the S-scheme charge transfer pathway, a process directly validated through a series of photoelectrochemical analyses: significantly quenched photoluminescence signals and shortened carrier lifetimes confirmed efficient interfacial recombination, while enhanced photocurrent responses and reduced electrochemical impedance indicated effective spatial separation of electron-hole pairs. The optimized carrier separation efficiency significantly improved the photocatalytic performance of the material. Under visible light irradiation, the degradation efficiency of tetracycline (TC) reached 85%, with degradation rates exceeding 80% for multiple antibiotic pollutants. Additionally, the material exhibited excellent stability in five consecutive cycling experiments. Mechanistic studies revealed that the synergistic effect of superoxide radicals ( · O 2 − ) and photogenerated holes (h + ) dominated the reaction process, as conclusively verified by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. Degradation pathway analysis via mass spectrometry (MC-LS) demonstrated that TC primarily undergoes cleavage through demethylation, hydroxylation, and ring-opening reactions, with simultaneous assessment of the toxicity and ecological risks of reaction intermediates. This work provides new theoretical foundations and practical solutions for the photocatalytic removal of antibiotics in real water bodies.

Sustainable green energy has emerged as critically important topics, with catalytic valorization and utilization of biomass receiving considerable attentions in recent years. This study investigates the photocatalytic selective oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5-diformylfuran (DFF) using sonochemically synthesized g-C3N4/Bi2MoO6 heterostructured catalyst. A series of composites with varying mass ratios were fabricated, with the 1:1 (w/w) g-C3N4/Bi2MoO6 demonstrating the optimal catalytic performance. Systematic investigations were conducted to elucidate the effects of reaction conditions including irradiation wavelength, solvent polarity, reaction atmosphere, and substrate concentration on photocatalytic efficiency. The system achieved exceptional DFF selectivity of 90.8% with 92.2% HMF conversion under very mild conditions (air atmosphere and 10 W blue LED, 455 nm) with the generation of H2O2 as co-product, demonstrated the extremely high catalytic activity of the catalyst. The catalyst exhibited remarkable stability, as confirmed by recycling tests and post-reaction X-ray diffraction (XRD) characterization. Mechanistic studies through radical quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy identified superoxide radicals (·O2−) and photogenerated holes (h+) as the dominant reactive species, propose a dual-pathway oxidation mechanism. In this study, the S-scheme heterojunction charge transfer mechanism was comprehensively validated through systematic characterization and theoretical calculations, highlighting the pivotal role of S-scheme heterojunctions in selective oxidation reactions.

The practical applications of transition-metal oxides as electrode materials for supercapacitors are still impeded by their intrinsically poor electrical conductivity and limited number of electroactive sites. Herein, a defect engineering strategy combined with interface engineering is adopted to create nitrogen-doped bismuth molybdate (N-BMO) hollow nanostructures decorated with graphene quantum dots (GQDs). Theoretical calculation and experimental results indicate that the N doping in BMO can enhance electrical conductivity of N-BMO by reducing its electronic band gap. Moreover, the surface decoration of GQDs on N-BMO enables higher electrical conductivity and more electroactive sites. More importantly, a built-in electric field is formed at the N-BMO/GQD interface due to their Fermi-level difference, which favors fast interfacial charge transfer and accelerate electrode reaction kinetics. Accordingly, the optimized N-BMO@GQD electrodes yield higher specific capacities (572 and 435 C g −1 at 1 and 10 A g −1 , respectively) and better cycling stability (91 % capacity retention after 10000 cycles at 5 A g −1 ) compared to pristine BMO electrode. Moreover, an assembled asymmetric supercapacitor device with N-BMO@GQD as positive electrode can deliver an energy density of 45.2 Wh kg −1 at 801 W kg −1 . This study showcases an efficient strategy to design and develop promising BMO-based electrode materials for supercapacitors.

The low sulfur usage, strong shuttle effect, and dilatory redox processes limit the practical application of lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs). The method of separator modification with a unique Mott-Schottky heterostructure used in this work significantly alleviates these issues. This unique structure is synthesized by in situ polymerizing the conductive polymer polypyrrole (PPy) on the surface of Bi 2 MoO 6 nanosheets to form Bi 2 MoO 6 -PPy nanosheets. This unique heterostructure can minimize the redox energy barrier on polysulfides due to the strong adsorption effect, high catalytic activity, and built-in electric field of Bi 2 MoO 6 -PPy nanosheets. The battery demonstrates good cycling stability when assembled with the functional separator modified by Bi 2 MoO 6 -PPy nanosheets, with an ultralow capacity decay of 0.045% per cycle over 500 cycles at 2 C. Furthermore, even with a high sulfur loading (7.5 mg cm −2 ), the battery retains an areal capacity of 6.3 mA h cm −2 at 0.2 C after 80 cycles. As a result, the suggested Mott-Schottky heterostructure-based Bi2MoO6-PPy nanosheets-modified separator (Bi 2 MoO 6 -PPy@PP separator) successfully suppresses the shuttle effect, providing an effective strategy for deploying efficient LSB.

To achieve high sensitivity for biomolecule detection in photoelectrochemical (PEC) bioanalysis, the ideal photoelectrode and ingenious signaling mechanism play crucial roles. Herein, the feasibility of the photogenerated hole-induced chemical–chemical redox cycling amplification strategy on a Z-scheme heterostructure photoelectrode was validated, and the strategy toward enhanced multiple signal amplification for advanced PEC immunoassay application was developed. Specifically, a direct Z-scheme Bi2S3/Bi2MoO6 heterostructure was synthesized via a classic hydrothermal method and served as a photoelectrode for the signal response. Under the illumination, the PEC chemical–chemical redox cycling (PECCC) among 4-aminophenol generated by the enzymatic catalysis from a sandwich immunoassay, ferrocene as a mediator, and tris (2-carboxyethyl) phosphine as a reducing agent was run on the Z-scheme Bi2S3/Bi2MoO6 heterostructure photoelectrode. Exemplified by interleukin-6 (IL-6) as the target, the applicability of the strategy was studied in a PEC immunoassay. Thanks to the multiple signal amplification originating from the high efficiency of the PECCC redox cycling system, the enzymatic amplification, and the fine performance of the Z-scheme Bi2S3/Bi2MoO6 heterostructure photoelectrode, the assay for IL-6 exhibits a very low detection limit of 2.0 × 10–14 g/mL with a linear range from 5.0 × 10–14 to 1.0 × 10–8 g/mL. This work first validates the feasibility of the PECCC redox cycling on the Z-scheme heterostructure photoelectrode and the good performance of the strategy in PEC bioanalysis. We envision that it would provide a new prospective for highly sensitive PEC bioanalysis on the basis of a Z-scheme heterostructure.

Developing efficient photocatalysts based on the peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation for effective degradation of threatening antibiotic contamination under visible light is still a challenging subject. Herein, a Co-doped Bi 2 MoO 6 (CBMO) spherical crystals were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method and used to degrade artificial antibiotic wastewater via PMS activation under visible light. The obtained 3 wt % Co-doped B 2 MoO 6 (3CBMO) can effectively remove 98.95% of norfloxacin (NOF) within 40 min, 100% of tetracycline (TC) and metronidazole (MNZ) within 30 min. Compared with the contrasting catalysts, the superior catalytic activity of 3CBMO was attributed to the synergistic effect of photocatalytic and Co(II) activated PMS degradations. Quenching tests in combination with EPR measurements revealed that the hole (h + ), sulfate (SO 4 − •) and hydroxyl (•OH) were the primary radicals all contributed to NOF degradation. The influences of initial concentration, catalyst dosage, PMS dosage and various interfering ions (NO 3 − , Cl − , SO 4 2− , and HCO 3 − ) on the degradation efficiency of NOF were systematically examined. Furthermore, possible degradation pathways of NOF were proposed by LC-MS. This novel 3CBMO catalyst might be a promising candidate for degradation of the main sources of antibiotic contamination in pharmaceutical wastewater.

This work presents a mechanism-oriented comparison of
how S and
Cu modifications regulate surface defects, band structure, and interfacial
charge transfer in Bi 2 MoO 6 for visible-light-driven
tetracycline (TC) degradation. Pristine Bi 2 MoO 6 , S-modified Bi 2 MoO 6 , and Cu-modified Bi 2 MoO 6 were synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal
method. Structural and spectroscopic analyses show that S modification
perturbs the local Mo–O/Bi–O coordination environment,
slightly expands the lattice spacing, weakens Mo–O-related
vibrations, and narrows the band gap. In contrast, Cu modification
induces local lattice distortion, oxygen-vacancy-associated surface
defects, and Cu + /Cu 2+ redox-active sites, thereby
facilitating interfacial charge transfer and defect-mediated O 2 activation. Radical trapping and EPR analyses reveal that
BMS-13 mainly follows an h + -dominated mixed oxidation pathway,
whereas BMCu-8 preferentially promotes reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated
oxidation involving ·O 2 – and ·OH.
Under visible-light irradiation, BMS-13 and BMCu-8 achieved TC degradation
efficiencies of 75.17% and 78.16%, respectively, with apparent rate
constants of 0.01070 and 0.01171 min –1 . LC-MS and
TOC analyses indicate that TC degradation proceeds through stepwise
molecular transformation, ring opening, fragmentation, and partial
mineralization rather than complete mineralization. This work clarifies
the modification-dependent regulation mechanisms of Bi 2 MoO 6 and provides useful guidance for designing defect-regulated
photocatalysts for antibiotic-contaminated water treatment.

Mesoporous NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti)@Bi 2 MoO 6 core-shell heterojunctions with surface defects were fabricated through a facile solvothermal method . The mesoporous core-shell structure with a large relative surface area of 87.7 m 2 g −1 and narrow pore size of 8.2 nm extends the photoresponse to the range of visible light due to the narrow band gap of ∼1.89 eV. The visible-light-driven photocatalytic degradation efficiency of highly toxic dichlorophen and trichlorophenol were 93.28 and 92.19%, respectively, and the corresponding rate constants were approximately 8 and 17 times higher than the rates achieved by pristine NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti). The photocatalytic oxygen production rate was increased to 171.3 µmol g −1 . Recycling for several cycles indicates high stability, which is favorable for practical applications. The excellent photocatalytic performance can be ascribed to the formation of the core-shell heterojunctions and to the surface defects that favor charge separation and visible light absorption; the mesoporous structure offers an adequate number of surface active sites and mass transfer. This novel mesoporous core-shell photocatalyst will have potential applications in the environment, and this strategy offers a new insight into fabrication of other high-performance core-shell structure photocatalysts.

The self-assembled Bi-based metal–organic framework microspheres (Bi-MOF-M) by nanorods were successfully constructed by the glycol-assisted solvothermal method . Using Bi-MOF-M as a homologous template, a petal-like Bi 2 MoO 6 (BMO) layer was grown in situ on its surface to facilely construct a chemically bonded heterojunction interface, realizing a micro/nano hierarchical flower spherical-like Bi-MOF-M/BMO heterojunction composite photocatalyst . The as-prepared series of Bi-MOF-M/BMO- x catalysts show higher visible light catalytic performance for tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) degradation. Among them, Bi-MOF-M/BMO-0.3 has the optimal catalytic activity, and the degradation efficiency can reach 93.6% within 60 min of light irradiation with superior mineralization ability and structural stability , and the degradation kinetic constant is 6.12 times that of Bi-MOF-M and 5.69 times that of BMO, respectively. The homologously grown Bi-MOF-M/BMO chemically bonded heterojunction not only effectively broadens the spectral absorption range and enhances the absorption intensity but also promotes the efficient separation of photogenerated carriers through forming a favorable interfacial electric field and well-matched energy band alignment. A reasonable mechanism for the visible light degradation of TC by the Bi-MOF-M/BMO composite catalyst with h + and 1 O 2 as the main reactive species is proposed. The micro/nano hierarchical structure of the Bi-MOF/BMO catalyst allows it to exhibit the easy recovery advantage of micron-scale materials while maintaining the high catalytic activity of the primary nano-components.

Herein, a novel dual-mode biosensor integrating photoelectrochemical (PEC) and fluorescence (FL) sensing detection was developed for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) based on aptamer DNA-linked CdTe QDs (Apt-CdTe QDs)/Bi 2 MoO 6 /CdS “dual Z-scheme” sensing system. Apt-CdTe QDs were assembled on FTO/CdS/Bi 2 MoO 6 /cDNA electrode through hybridization with cDNA, resulting in the formation of a double Z-scheme CdS/Bi 2 MoO 6 /CdTe heterostructure that significantly enhanced the separation of photo-generated charge carriers, thereby improving photocatalytic efficiency. Upon the presence of MCF-7 cells, Apt-QDs were captured and subsequently released from the captured electrode, leading to a decrease in photocurrent and an increase in fluorescence intensity, thus enabling effective PEC-FL dual-mode detection. The detection of CTCs exhibited a linear relationship within the concentration range from 50 to 100000 cells mL −1 with limit of detection of 1 cell mL −1 in both PEC and FL modes. This approach effectively corrected systematic errors, improved detection accuracy and sensitivity, and held great potential in the clinical detection of CTCs.

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) serves as an outstanding solid lubricant applied in harsh service conditions. However, enhancing its lubricating, antioxidative and anti-wear capabilities over a broader temperature range stills a formidable challenge, owing to its susceptibility to oxidation at high-temperature. In this work, we achieved superior wide-temperature lubrication from room temperature (RT) to 800 ℃ via the design of core-shell structure, with the introduction of Bi 2 O 3 nanoparticles and encapsulation of SiO 2 shell, and phosphate as binder. At RT and 200 ℃, stable low friction was realized through the synergistic interlayer sliding of MoS 2 and in-situ formed Bi 2 S 3 with low shear strength. At 400 ℃, the protective SiO 2 shell inhibited the oxidation of the core lubricating phase, thus enabling MoS 2 and Bi 2 S 3 to retain their lubricating functionality. When the temperature exceeded 600 ℃, the remarkable enhancement in lubricating property (with a coefficient of friction of 0.13–0.16) was attributed to the synergy of phosphate molten-phase lubrication and low-shear lubricating phases (Bi 2 S 3 and Bi 2 MoO 6 ). An amorphous phosphate molten layer formed at high temperatures and constructed a readily shearable lubricating interface. Low-shear lamellar-chain structure Bi 2 S 3 , weak interlayer van der Waals forces reduced the sliding resistance. The distorted MoO 6 octahedral structure of Bi 2 MoO 6 induced an enlarged interlayer distance and weakened interionic coupling, which enhanced shear capability and excellent high-temperature lubrication performance. This work provides some reference for improving wide-temperature-range lubricating capabilities of solid lubricating materials.
