In this work, direct Z-scheme BiOBr/CuI heterojunctions are successfully synthesized using a simple solvothermal method for the first time. The photocatalytic activity of the BiOBr/CuI composite catalysts is evaluated by the degradation of phenol under visible light. The photocatalytic performance of all the composites is higher than that of the pure components. BiOBr/CuI-1 : 0.8 shows the best photocatalytic performance, which could remove 98.4% phenol in 150 minutes, almost 4.35 and 8.63 times as high as that of pure BiOBr and CuI, respectively. Assisted by XPS, the charge transfer of the composites is investigated. The good photocatalytic performance of the composites is attributed to the Z-scheme charge transfer between BiOBr and CuI. Moreover, the main active species in this system are proved by free radical quenching experiments and EPR, and a possible degradation mechanism is proposed. The degradation products of phenol are analyzed by HPLC-MS and the possible degradation paths are proposed.

The all-inorganic perovskite nanocrystals are promising luminescent materials for optoelectronic devices. However, it is still a challenge to prepare perovskite nanocrystals with high luminescence. Herein, a synthesis method was developed for the uniform incorporation of ultra-thin BiOBr nanosheets into perovskite crystals at both body-embedding and surface-passivating positions. The micron-scale green-emitting phosphors composed of Cs 4 PbBr 6 nanocrystals and BiOBr nanosheets are prepared. The crystal structure of Cs 4 PbBr 6 nanocrystals can remain almost unchanged although prepared from different PbBr 2 concentrations. The luminescence mechanism of Cs 4 PbBr 6 is discussed. The Cs 4 PbBr 6 @BiOBr submicron phosphors can be dispersed in DMSO solvent without disintegration and dissolution, which are used as seeds of the CsPbBr 3 film growth. The CsPbBr 3 films with Cs 4 PbBr 6 @BiOBr doped exhibit pure optical characteristics of CsPbBr 3 , indicating that Cs 4 PbBr 6 is converted to CsPbBr 3 during the film preparation process. Furthermore, these Cs 4 PbBr 6 @BiOBr phosphors are mixed with CaAlSiN 3 : Eu red-emitting commercial phosphors to make white LEDs (WLEDs). Overall, this study provides a revealing insight into a kind of composite material constructed with halide perovskite and bismuth halide oxide.

BiOBr photocatalysts were prepared by changing the solvent and synthesis method. SEM, XRD and BET characterization shows that the sample prepared in high-viscosity solution by precipitation method has tremella-like microstructure, with smaller size and higher surface area. Among them, the BiOBr prepared in glycerol solution (GR-P) has the highest surface area of 113.8 m 2 ⋅ − 1 . XRD also indicates that the GR-P has much more exposed (110) facets than other samples. The Rhodamine B degradation tests show that the GR-P has the best activity on both deethylation and aromatic ring destruction steps, indicating that the exposed (110) facets promote the degradation process.

A series of Ag/AgBr/BiOBr photocatalysts with different weight contents of Ag/AgBr were successfully constructed via a simple precipitation method in 80 °C water bath. Photocatalysts were characterized by XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM, N 2 Adsorption-Desorption (BET), and UV–Vis Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS). Compared with BiOBr and Ag/AgBr, all the composite photocatalysts show the prominent photocatalytic activity for the degradation of tetracycline (TC). Especially, 1:5Ag/AgBr/BiOBr (20%) has the highest reaction rate constant (kapp = 0.20 min −1 ). Moreover, according to the results of radical scavengers runs, ·OH and h + acted as the main reactive species in the degradation process. Based on above, a possible photocatalytic mechanism for organics degradation over Ag/AgBr/BiOBr was proposed. Interestingly, the redox cycle between O 2 /·O 2 − and Br − /Br 0 assisted with the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of silver dramatically promotes the separation and transfer of electron–hole pairs, and improves the photocatalytic activity of the as-obtained composite samples.

Recently, the photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) has been extensively studied. Herein, we successfully prepared the BiOBr-Bi 2 S 3 heterojunctions with high photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction performance using an ion exchange method. The optimal BiOBr-Bi 2 S 3 heterojunction (prepared with BiOBr, pH of 6.0, 2 mmol Na 2 S 2 O 3 ·5H 2 O,) achieved 100% removal of Cr(VI) within 12 min. The performance of photo-reduced Cr(VI) was about 28.9 and 184.6 times higher than that of pure Bi 2 S 3 and BiOBr, respectively. Besides, BiOBr-Bi 2 S 3 heterojunctions had a good adsorption efficiency for Cr(III), suggesting that they could be applied as bifunctional photocatalyst. The formation process and photoelectric properties of the BiOBr-Bi 2 S 3 heterojunctions were revealed by a series of characterizations. In conclusion, this work reported the synergistic effect of adsorption and photocatalysis of the BiOBr-Bi 2 S 3 heterojunctions for Cr removal for the first time, suggesting that the BiOBr-Bi 2 S 3 heterojunctions could act as a novel photocatalytic adsorbent to treat the Cr(VI)-containing wastewater.

A novel visible-light-driven BiOBr/BiFeWO 6 heterojunction was prepared through a simple hydrothermal route. The physicochemical properties of BiOBr/BiFeWO 6 nanocomposites were systematically characterized. The existence of a clear interface between BiOBr and BiFeWO 6 could be obtained by transmission electron microscopy , indicating the formation of heterojunction. Rhodamine B (RhB) was used to investigate the photocatalytic performance of BiOBr/BiFeWO 6 nanocomposites under visible light irradiation (λ > 420 nm). The degradation efficiency of BiOBr/BiFeWO 6 -40 nanocomposite reached 96.3 % within 90 min. The improved photocatalytic performance is mainly due to the synergistic interaction between BiOBr/BiFeWO 6 . It is beneficial to the separation of photogenerated carriers and the absorption of visible light. In addition, long-term stability results indicate that BiOBr/BiFeWO 6 heterojunction may be an excellent material for effective degradation of dyes from wastewater and may be explored for large-scale application in the future. Finally, a possible mechanism is proposed for the catalytic degradation of RhB by the BiOBr/BiFeWO 6 heterojunction. This work provides a convenient and dependable method to synthesize BiOBr/BiFeWO 6 nanocomposite, which might be a promising candidate for large-scale application in wastewater treatment.

A Bi-BiOBr/BiPO4 heterojunction structure was successfully synthesized via a two-step solvothermal method with ethylene glycol as a reducer. Little BiPO4 irregular polyhedrons and little metal Bi spherical nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed on the surface of BiOBr nanosheets with intimate contact and formed a heterojunction structure between BiPO4 and BiOBr. It was found that Bi-BiOBr/BiPO4 had a significant improvement in photocatalytic performance for RhB degradation compared to bare BiOBr and BiPO4. The photocatalytic degradation rate constant of 0.2-Bi/BiOBr/BiPO4 was 1.44 h-1, which was 3.8 times and 14.2 times more than that of bare BiOBr and BiPO4, respectively. This is attributed to the formation of a ternary heterojunction, which benefits the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Furthermore, with the introduction of metal Bi, the SPR effect of metal Bi can effectively improve the absorption ability of Bi-BiOBr/BiPO4 photocatalyst, resulting in enhanced photoactivity. In this work, the mechanism of photocatalytic degradation was studied by using the photochemical technique and the capture experiment of active species, and it was revealed that h+ and ⋅O2- played a major role in the photocatalytic process.

In this article, the novel direct Z-scheme ZnIn 2 S 4 @BiOBr-(110) heterojunction structure was firstly synthesized via simple two-step hydrothermal method. The results of XRD and HRTEM indicated that as-prepared BiOBr mainly exposed high energy (110) facet. Simultaneously, the photoelectrochemical measurement was performed to further investigate the photo-induced carrier separation efficiency. The results indicated that Z-scheme heterojunction structure formed by the loading of ZnIn 2 S 4 nanosheets not only promoted the separation of photogenerated carriers and inhibited fast recombination rate of photogenerated electron–hole pairs of pure BiOBr, but also endowed the composite with better redox activity. The degradation efficiency of RhB by BiOBr loaded with 10 mol% ZnIn 2 S 4 has achieved 98% within 18 min under the irradiation of Xe lamp, which demonstrated that the unique direct Z-scheme ZnIn 2 S 4 @BiOBr-(110) composite photocatalytic materials has the potential application in environmental pollution control and energy conversion.

ZnO coated fabrics have attracted wide attentions due to their antibacterial and photocatalytic self-cleaning properties. However, the photo-response of ZnO only in ultraviolet region limits its application. In this paper, ZnO/BiOBr functionalized cotton fabrics were synthesized by a facile and time-saving ultrasonic-microwave combined method. Compared with ZnO coated fabric, the photocatalytic activity of ZnO/BiOBr coated fabric under visible light irradiation was remarkably improved at no sacrifice of its antibacterial activity. Simultaneously, it also showed good resistance to bacterial adhesion and photocorrosion. The introduction of two-dimensional BiOBr nanoflakes not only enhanced the visible light absorption, but also reduced the recombination rate of electron-hole pairs, thus significantly improving the photocatalytic self-cleaning performance of the coated fabric under visible light irradiation. The ZnO/BiOBr coated cotton fabric with both antibacterial and self-cleaning functionalities may have broad application prospects in the fields of textile, medicine and chemical industry.

To explore catalysts combining highly accessible specific surface areas with low recombination of the photo-induced electron–hole pairs, a novel SiO2@PDA@BiOBr composite photocatalyst with a hierarchical core–shell structure was prepared by a facile solvothermal method. The catalyst shows a superior performance on photodegradation of Rhodamine B under visible light irradiation, especially for SiO2@PDA-2@BiOBr with the reactant kinetics constant (k = 0.0487 min−1). The enhanced photocatalytic performance of SiO2@PDA-2@BiOBr was ascribed to the decreased band-gap, higher surface area, and effectively photo-generated electron–hole pairs by the introduction of polydopamine (PDA). In addition, the photocatalytic degradation is initiated by ˙O2− derived from dye photosensitization and h+ from the BiOBr. Cyclic experiments also indicate that the SiO2@PDA-2@BiOBr is reusable during the photodegradation process. The hierarchical core–shell SiO2@PDA@BiOBr photocatalyst will provide a theoretical model for the development of physical chemistry and structural properties of BiOBr-based composites to enhance the photocatalytic performances.

A series of BiOBr nanosheets with tunable exposing proportion of (0 1 0) facets had been synthesized. In the synthesis process, different n -alcohols are used, which not only promote the exposure of (0 1 0) facets, but also modulate the size and thickness of these BiOBr nanosheets in a wide range. Furthermore, these nanosheets showed an efficient photodegradation activity for salicylic acid (SA) and Rhodamine B (RhB). By comparison, the sample prepared in n -hexanol possessed the highest photocatalytic activity than those synthesized in n -butanol and methanol, respectively. This excellent photocatalytic activity was attributed to the thin lamellar thickness and the exposure of (0 1 0) facets, which facilitated the separation of photoinduced electrons and holes.

Photocatalysis has received much attention as an environmentally friendly route to manage the emerging organic pollution problems. Herein, BiOBr nanosheets have been synthesized by a hydrothermal method, and then PCN/BiOBr hybrids are designed via a facile wet chemical method. The as-prepared PCN/BiOBr hybrids are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-vis DRS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The PCN/BiOBr composite exhibits remarkable improved activity in the degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) as compared to the pristine BiOBr. Based on the ·OH amount-related fluorescence spectra fluorescence and the photoelectrochemistry (PEC) tests, it is confirmed that the enhanced photocatalytic performance of PCN/BiOBr is attributed to the promoted charge separation. Moreover, by means of the radical-trapping experiments it is demonstrated that the formed ·O2− species, as the electron-modulated direct products, are the primary active species during the photocatalytic degradation of 2,4-DCP. This work would provide a feasible design strategy to fabricate high-activity photocatalysts for 2,4-DCP degradation.
