Accurate and sensitive detection of chloramphenicol (CAP) in natural samples is essential for ensuring human health. Herein, an enzyme-regulated fluorescence sensor using Fe 3 O 4 @COF/Fe 3+ probe, is developed for CAP determination. Fe 3 O 4 @COF, synthesized via hydrothermal method , exhibits dual functions as a magnetic carrier and signal probe. Bovine serum albumin conjugated-chloramphenicol, adsorbed on the surface of Fe 3 O 4 @COF, competes with CAP for antibody binding. The antibody interacts with alkaline phosphatase via the biotin-streptavidin system. Meanwhile, ascorbic acid , produced from the enzyme-catalyzed reaction dominated by alkaline phosphatase, effectively restores the fluorescence of Fe 3 O 4 @COF that is quenched by Fe 3+ . After experimental verification and gradual optimization, a logarithmic linear relationship between CAP concentration and fluorescence intensity is established in the range of 2 × 10 −4 ∼10 μg mL −1 , with a good limit of detection (9.2 × 10 −5 μg mL −1 ). Proposed method exhibits excellent stability (15 days) and reusability (8 cycles), providing a sensitive and reliable method for accurate CAP detection. The readouts show good agreement with HPLC and recoveries during laboratory and natural CAP analysis.

Membrane separation technology has infinite potential to produce optically pure drugs. However, there are still challenges regarding chiral membranes, such as the single separation object, poor mechanical properties, and constrained relationship between permeability and enantioselectivity. To improve the membrane properties, heptakis (6-amino-6-deoxy)- β -CD-modified carboxyl-functionalized COF (TpBD-Am7CD) was introduced as a chiral functional material for the preparation of a TpBD-Am7CD stainless steel I-Net cellulose acetate membrane (COF/SSCAM) via interfacial polymerization. Using tryptophan as the template molecule, the membrane preparation and filtration conditions were optimized to achieve maximum enantioselectivity. The optimized COF/SSCAM achieved a better enantiomeric excess percentage (e.e.% = 100.00%) and solute permeation flux (J S = 37 × 10 −6 mol m −2 h −1 ) for racemic tryptophan than the support membrane, which was attributed to the enantioselectivity and hydrophilicity of TpBD-Am7CD. Moreover, COF/SSCAM achieved enantiomeric separation of racemates of propranolol, warfarin, atenolol, and metoprolol, and the e.e.% values were 39.51%, 5.60%, 16.04%, and 3.09%, respectively. In addition, the chiral recognition mechanism was investigated by molecular docking simulation.

2D materials that can provide long-range ordered channels in thin-film form are highly desirable for proton exchange membranes (PEMs). Covalent organic framework nanosheets (CONs) are promising 2D materials possessing intrinsic porosity and high processability. However, the potential of CONs in PEMs is limited by loose sheet stacking and interfacial grain boundary, which lead to unsatisfied mechanical property and discontinuous conduction pathway. Herein, chitosan (CS), a natural polymer with rich NH 2 groups, is designed as the linker of dual-sulfonate CONs (CON-2(SO 3 H)) to obtain CON-2(SO 3 H)-based membrane. Ultrathin CON-2(SO 3 H) with high crystallinity and large lateral size is synthesized at water–octanoic acid interface. The high flexibility of CS chains and their electrostatic interactions with SO 3 H groups of CON-2(SO 3 H) enable effective connection of CON-2(SO 3 H), thus endowing membrane dense structure and exceptional stability. The stacked CON-2(SO 3 H) constructs regular hydrophilic nanochannels containing high-density SO 3 H groups, and the electrostatic interactions between CON-2(SO 3 H) and CS form interfacial acid–base pairs transfer channels. Consequently, CON-2(SO 3 H)@CS membrane simultaneously achieves superior proton conductivity of 353 mS cm −1 (under 80 °C hydrated condition) and tensile strength of 95 MPa. This work highlights the advantages of proton-conducting porous CON-2(SO 3 H) in advanced PEMs and paves a way in fabricating robust CON-based membranes for various applications.

The widespread use of antibiotics has made multidrug-resistant bacteria (MDRB) one of the greatest threats toward global health. Current conventional microbial detection methods are usually time-consuming, labor-intensive, expensive, and unable to detect low concentrations of bacteria, which cause great difficulties in clinical diagnosis and treatment. Herein, we constructed a versatile biosensing platform on the basis of boric acid-functionalized porous framework composites (MOF@COF-BA), which were able to realize highly efficient and sensitive label-free MDRB detection via fluorescence. In this design, MDRB were captured using aptamer-coated nanoparticles and the fluorescent probe MOF@COF-BA was tightly anchored onto the surface of MDRB due to interactions between boric acid groups and glycolipids on bacteria cells. Benefitting from the remarkable fluorescence performance of MOF@COF-BA, rapid and specific detection of MDRB, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Acinetobacter baumannii (AB), was realized with a detection range of 20–108 CFU/mL (for both) and limits of detection of 7 CFU/mL (MRSA) and 5 CFU/mL (AB). The feasibility of using the developed platform to selectively detect MRSA and AB from complex urine, human serum, and cerebrospinal fluid samples was also demonstrated. This work provides a promising strategy for accurate MDRB diagnosis, avoiding serious infection using rational antibiotic therapy.

Herein, we designed and synthesized a two-dimensional covalent organic framework (2D-COF) of a Schiff base using a mechanical chemical grinding method. Moreover, capsaicin@chitosan (CAP@CS) microcapsules were loaded on a TpPa-1 COF by a physical adsorption method to prepare composites (CAP@CS/TpPa-1), which realized the pH-sensitive controlled release of the fungicide CAP, dispersed in fluorocarbon resin to prepare an intelligent coating with environmentally friendly long-term antifouling performance. TpPa-1 improves the antibacterial efficiency by increasing the dispersity of CAP@CS in the resin. Therefore, a CAP release amount of 2 wt % composite coating can meet the minimum bacteriostatic concentration of 37.5 μg/mL required for antifouling. Importantly, pH-responsive controlled release caused by the protonation of CS and the electrostatic interaction between CAP@CS and TpPa-1 COF and increased bacterial contact area by CAP@CS reunion inhibited by TpPa-1 COF improve the bactericidal efficiency of the composite. The composite coating has excellent corrosion resistance, mainly because COF extends the propagation path of the corrosive medium.

A novel multimode COF-300@SiO 2 chromatographic stationary phase was successfully prepared via an in situ growth strategy. Powder X-ray diffraction, solid nuclear magnetic resonance and scanning electron microscope confirmed the successful preparation of COF-300@SiO 2 chromatographic stationary phase. Multimode chromatographic performance and multiple retention mechanisms were investigated. Neutral and polar compounds were efficiently separated in reverse phase chromatography mode due to hydrophobic interaction, π-π interaction, electron-donor-acceptor interaction and size selectivity of porous structure, and the column exhibited comparable hydrophobic selectivity with C18 column. Especially, the size selectivity of porous structure promoted the separation of multicomponent compounds on the novel column. Only neutral compounds were completely or partly separated in normal phase chromatography mode based on π-π interaction, and the column showed better separation performance than SiO 2 column. Moreover, the column also presented weaker hydrophilic interaction than NH 2 /SiO 2 column in hydrophilic phase chromatography mode. Nucleosides, nucleobases and alkaloids were partly or completely separated on the developed column because of the presence of amino groups on the surface of COF-300. This work indicates promising application values of COFs-based chromatographic stationary phases in chromatographic separation areas.

As an emerging porous crystal polymer, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) possess unique characteristics, such as high porosity, excellent stability, diverse topologies, designable open channels, and functional tunability. However, limited by the solid powder form, most COFs display low active site utilization and weak binding force with the current collector. In this pioneering research, we integrate redox-active COFs onto carbon fiber surfaces (AC-COFs) via strong covalent bridging. The 2,6-diaminoanthraquinone (DAAQ) pillars embedded on the carbon fiber surface are the key to precisely controlling the growth direction of COFs. The obtained tentacle-like array vertically supported on the surface of the carbon fiber can effectively induce charge transfer and prevent COFs from aggregating/collapsing. The strong covalent coupling and increase of accessible active sites contributed to the high specific capacitance of AC-COFs electrode (1034 mF cm–2). In addition, the COF-based flexible electrode retains an initial capacitance of 98% after 20000 charge–discharge cycles. The flexible all-solid-state symmetric supercapacitor is assembled by PVA/H2SO4 gel electrolyte with an areal capacitance of 715 mF cm–2. Besides, a red LED can be easily powered by three-bending AC-COFs//AC-COFs devices. The innovative synthesis strategy opens up new opportunities to develop high-performance flexible energy storage devices based on COFs.

Background The removal of heavy metals is very important because of their nonbiodegradability and toxicity to the general population and environment. Adsorption is regarded as a promising approach for target pollutant removal due to its simplicity and economy. Methods Novel magnetic covalent organic framework (COF) composites (Fe 3 O 4 @TpPa-NO 2 ) consisting of a magnetic Fe 3 O 4 core and a TpPa-NO 2 COF shell are synthesized and developed as adsorbents for Pb(II) removal from aqueous solution. Significant findings The obtained composites exhibit superior adsorption performance (909.1 mg/g) and fast adsorption dynamics (adsorption equilibration time of less than 10 min) toward Pb(II). The experimental data for the adsorption of Pb(II) follow pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models. The superior performance of Fe 3 O 4 @TpPa-NO 2 for Pb(II) elimination is attributed to electrostatic and coordination interactions between the metal ion and functional groups (nitrogen and oxygen) of magnetic COF composites. The Pb(II)-loaded Fe 3 O 4 @TpPa-NO 2 can be easily regenerated by acid treatment. Furthermore, Fe 3 O 4 @TpPa-NO 2 demonstrates excellent reusability and maintains a high removal efficiency throughout five consecutive adsorption-desorption processes. Various COF-based magnetic adsorbents can be fabricated for specific pollutants due to the diversity in the structure and pore size of the COFs, which present attractive prospects for high-efficiency removal of contaminants in water treatment.

Sunlight-driven photocatalytic filters against pathogenic bioaerosols have attracted a lot of interest. However, developing an efficient interception system that shows enhanced visible-light harvesting, controllable charge dynamic, and boosted ROS generation remains a grand challenge. Here, we designed an ionic ZIF-8@iCOF nanocomposite as a sunlight-driven photocatalytic filter through elaborate structural engineering of the heterointerface between ZIF-8 and cationic iCOF layers. The photoactive experiments reveal significant improvements in the visible light absorption and sunlight-driven exciton-enhanced intersystem crossing to boost the generation of singlet oxygen (220%) and also obtain antibacterial efficiency of 99.99999% after 15 min irradiation. After combining with commercial polymer, resultant ZIF-8@iCOF/polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibrous membranes exhibited high interception efficiency for both PM10 and PM2.5 (98%), being close to the commercial N95. This fibrous membrane also possesses good biocompatibility and strong elimination of bacteria under sunlight conditions, satisfying for the long-lasting contact usage. This finding not only showcases the promise of the porous materials-based fibrous membranes for efficient photocatalytic filter against pathogenic bioaerosols but also highlights the importance of accurate structural engineering for the advancement of sunlight-driven photocatalytic systems in environment and energy-related fields.

The design of novel homogeneous electrochemical (HEC) sensors with dual-signal ratiometric response holds great potential for highly sensitive and reliable detection of arsenic in food matrices. Herein, COF-based hybrids were prepared by integrating methylene blue (MB) signals and MnO 2 nanozyme coatings, possessing the advantages of high signal loading, oxidase-mimicking activity, and ascorbic acid (AA)-specific recognition to realize ratiometric HEC detection of arsenate. The hydrolysate AA, produced from ALP-catalyzed AAP hydrolysis, could decompose MnO 2 coatings into Mn 2+ , and regulate MB release and o -phenylenediamine oxidation to 2,3-diaminophenazine (DAP). Furthermore, arsenate specifically inhibited ALP, subsequently restraining AA formation and MnO 2 decomposition. Consequently, a decreased MB current and an increased DAP current with opposite responses were regulated by arsenate compared with those without arsenate. Thus, this dual-signal ratiometric HEC sensor achieved sensitive detection of arsenate, with a LOD of 0.509 ppb. It was successfully applied to reliable detection of arsenate in complex food matrices.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) as new photocatalysts for hydrogen evolution have aroused considerable interest over the past few years. However, most of COF-based photocatalysts require expensive and rare Pt co-catalysts to achieve a high hydrogen evolution rate. Here, a series of Tp-Pa-2-COF-based photocatalyst materials with porous 2D conductive metal–organic framework (MOF) Cu3(HHTP)2 as a noble metal-free co-catalyst are successfully prepared by an easy handling and green mechano-chemical method. Remarkably, after optimizing the ratio of the COF and MOF, the Tp-Pa-2/Cu3(HHTP)2 hybrid composite with a mass ratio of 3 : 1 exhibits the highest hydrogen evolution rate of 7.71 mmol h−1 g−1 under visible-light irradiation, while the hydrogen evolution rate of the pure Tp-Pa-2 is only 0.026 mmol h−1 g−1. Based on the detailed experiments and calculations, the improved performance can be mainly explained by the porous crystalline Cu3(HHTP)2 co-catalyst in the resulting composites efficiently promoting the utilization rate of the photogenerated charge-carriers, thus contributing to the high hydrogen generation performance.

Achieving efficient and selective solar-driven CO2 reduction remains a grand challenge due to sluggish proton–electron transfer kinetics and limited reactant availability at catalytic interfaces. Herein, we present a hierarchically structured aerogel integrating triazine-based covalent organic frameworks (TCOF) with Nb2CTx MXene nanosheets embedded in a poly(vinyl alcohol)/sodium alginate (PVA/SA) matrix. The aerogel leverages broadband light harvesting, hierarchical water regulation, and localized photothermal activation to enhance multielectron CO2 conversion. The hydrophilic–hydrophobic PVA/SA scaffold promotes rapid water uptake and vapor-phase transport, while Nb2CTx enables efficient near-infrared-induced heating to establish a proton-rich interfacial microenvironment. Simultaneously, the porous TCOF network offers abundant CO2 adsorption and activation sites. This synergistic architecture facilitates stable proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) pathways and C–C coupling. In situ spectroscopic analyses reveal enhanced formation and stabilization of *COOH, *CH3, and *OCCHO intermediates under photothermal conditions, evidencing facilitated C–C coupling for C2 product generation. Under 3-sun irradiation for 3 h, the optimized TCOF/Nb2CTx aerogel delivers exceptional yields of 119.3 μmol·g–1 CH4 and 94.9 μmol·g–1 C2H4, which is 2-fold higher than powder analogues and surpassing previous COF/MXene systems. This work demonstrates a generalizable strategy to engineer carbohydrate polymer-based aerogels with integrated light-to-heat conversion, vapor regulation, and catalytic site accessibility for efficient solar-to-chemical fuel generation.
