Novel Electrochemiluminescent Immunosensor Using Dual Amplified Signals from a CoFe Prussian Blue Analogue and Au Nanoparticle for the Detection of Lp-PLA2

Lixin Wang,Yuhong Liu,Jilin Yan,Huiling Li,Yifeng Tu

Coronary heart disease (CHD) poses an important threat to human health, and its pathogenesis is the formation of atheromatous plaques in coronary ventricles. Compared to other biomarkers, lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2), which is involved in multiple processes of atherosclerosis, is a noticeable inflammatory biomarker related to CHD. Herein, using a multifunctional nanocomposite containing a CoFe Prussian blue analogue (PBA) and Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) (AuNPs@CoFe PBA) as a sensing substrate, an electrochemiluminescent (ECL) immunosensor was developed for the highly sensitive detection of Lp-PLA2. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of the PBA and AuNPs, the nanocomposite exhibits excellent peroxidase-like activity and can catalyze the luminol–ECL reaction, amplifying the ECL signal by ∼29-fold. Meanwhile, the enlarged specific surface area of the nanocomposite and the presence of abundant AuNPs allow the immobilization of more antibody proteins, thereby improving the sensing response of the immunosensor. When the target Lp-PLA2 is captured by the antibody on the sensor surface, the sensor emits a reduced ECL signal because of the increased mass and electron transfer resistance due to the formation of the immune complex. Under optimized conditions, the constructed ECL immunosensor exhibits a broad linear range from 1 to 2200 ng/mL and a low detection limit of 0.21 ng/mL. Additionally, the ECL immunosensor exhibits high specificity, stability, and reproducibility. This work provides a new approach to diagnose CHD and broadened the application of the PBA in the field of ECL sensors.

Rapid Fabrication of Ni/NiO@CoFe Layered Double Hydroxide Hierarchical Nanostructures by Femtosecond Laser Ablation and Electrodeposition for Efficient Overall Water Splitting

Haofei Wu,Kai Yin,Weihong Qi,Xinfeng Zhou,Jieting He,Jinming Li,Yanyu Liu,Jun He,Shen Gong,Yejun Li

Graphical Quick and easy ! A hierarchical binder-free Ni/NiO@CoFe LDH nanostructure was prepared by laser ablation and electrodeposition in several minutes. The material displayed efficient electrocatalytic performance for the hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline solution. The catalyst also exhibited excellent activity and stability for overall water splitting under alkaline conditions. The development of simple and effective methods for the rapid preparation of electrocatalysts for overall water splitting from earth-abundant elements is an important and challenging task. A facile and ultrafast two-step method was developed to prepare a Ni/NiO@CoFe layered double hydroxide hierarchical nanostructure (NCF) within a few minutes by femtosecond laser ablation and electrodeposition. In 1 m KOH solution, the optimized NCF catalysts show a low overpotential of 230 mV for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 with a low Tafel slope of 34.3 mV dec −1 , indicating fast and efficient OER kinetics. Owing to the synergistic effect between NiO and CoFe layered double hydroxide, the hydrogen evolution reaction performance of the NCF was also improved. The synthesized electrocatalysts were further utilized in overall water splitting with a potential of only 1.56 V at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 and excellent durability, better than that of the commercial RuO 2 (+)//Pt/C(−) system. The present work provides new insights on the rapid and facile preparation of efficient electrocatalysts for overall water splitting on a large scale.

S, N co-doped carbon nanotubes coupled with CoFe nanoparticles as an efficient bifunctional ORR/OER electrocatalyst for rechargeable Zn-air batteries

Guijun Li,Yibo Tang,Tiantian Fu,Yang Xiang,Zhongping Xiong,Yujun Si,Chaozhong Guo,Zhiqiang Jiang

The development of efficient and cost-effective bifunctional electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is crucial for the commercialization of rechargeable metal-air batteries. Herein, the pyrolysis of a precursor containing g-C 3 N 4 , thiourea, cobalt chloride and ferric chloride was used to fabricate S, N co-doped carbon nanotubes functionalized with Co 3 Fe 7 alloy nanoparticles (CoFe/S-N-C). The obtained CoFe/S-N-C catalyst exhibited an ORR half wave potential of 0.855 V ( vs . RHE) in 0.1 M KOH, outperforming a commercial Pt/C catalyst ( E 1/2  = 0.844 V). The catalyst also demonstrated superior OER catalytic activity (1.588 V at 10 mA cm −2 ) relative to RuO 2 in 0.1 M KOH, thus displaying outstanding bifunctional ORR and OER activity. A rechargeable Zn-air battery fabricated using CoFe/S-N-C shows good very performance (maximum power density of 120 mW cm −2 with a specific capacity of 814 mAh g −1 ) which was superior to a Zn-air battery fabricated using Pt/C and RuO 2 as ORR and OER catalysts (92 mW cm −2 and 787 mAh g −1 , respectively). Further, the fabricated battery using CoFe/S-N-C showed good stability, offering a discharge voltage ∼ 1.10 V and a recharge voltage ∼ 2.15 V at 10 mA cm −2 over 300 cycles, evidence of the durability of the CoFe/S-N-C catalyst.

Modulated transition metal–oxygen covalency in the octahedral sites of CoFe layered double hydroxides with vanadium doping leading to highly efficient electrocatalysts

Yibin Yang,Yingqing Ou,Yang Yang,Xijun Wei,Di Gao,Lin Yang,Yuli Xiong,Hongmei Dong,Peng Xiao,Yunhuai Zhang

The development of efficient and stable non-noble-metal electrocatalytic materials for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a huge and important challenge at present. Herein, we report the prominent enhancement of OER activity via doping vanadium into CoFe-based layered double hydroxide (LDH) electrocatalysts. Electrochemical characterization shows that the Co2Fe0.5V0.5 LDH grown on carbon papers (CPs) has an enormous electrochemical surface area (ECSA) and exhibits the smallest overpotential of 242 mV at 10 mA cm−2, which only requires a small Tafel slope of 41.4 mV dec−1 in 1 M KOH solution. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) peak position of Co, Fe and O moves slightly to higher binding energy, elucidating the improved covalency of the metal–oxygen bond after V doping. DFT+U simulation indicates that the outstanding electrocatalytic activity of Co2Fe0.5V0.5 could be ascribed to the increased metal–oxygen covalency in LDH after V element doping, and facilitates the charge-transfer from oxygen to the metal. This finely tuned strategy by V doping into the CoFe-based LDH matrix can adjust the covalency of metal–oxygen bridges and enhance its electrocatalytic activity for the OER. In this work, we also present a general method to study various highly efficient metal hydroxide catalysts for the OER.

Construction of string-bead-like spatial conductive network derived from CoFe Prussian blue analogue and carbon nanotube composite for excellent electromagnetic wave absorption

Jiahao Wang,Junfeng Yan,Jiangni Yun,Pinbo Li,Huiting Zhao,Yu Zhao,Wu Zhao,Zhouhu Deng,Zhiyong Zhang,Zhipeng Zhang,Jiangxiao Tian

A research hotspot material, Prussian blue analogue (PBA), with low cost, easy synthesis, and MOFs structure, has attracted extensive attention in various fields recently. Especially, with the unique unit of metal nanoparticles embedded into the N-doped carbon shell, its derivative is regarded as a candidate in the electromagnetic (EM) absorption field. In this work, CoFe-CNT-PBA, synthesized by the coprecipitation method, was used as precursor to prepare string-bead-like spatial conductive network which is composited by carbon nanotubes (CNT) concatenating units of magnetic CoFe nanoparticles embedded into N-doped carbon shell. To a great extent, the environmental suitability of metal nanoparticles is improved. The result shows, SB-CoFe@C-CNT0.02-800 with microporous and mesoporous has a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −67.82 dB at 13.74 GHz with 2.20 mm, and the effective absorption bandwidth (EAB, RL ≤ −10 dB) is 7.23 GHz (10.77–18 GHz) at 2.07 mm. At last, MATLAB was used to simulate by building a double-layer absorber, and EAB dramatically reaches 8.35 GHz, which covers mostly the X band and the whole Ku band . The strategy, CNT concatenating porous micro-spheres derived from PBA, induces conduction loss and interface polarization loss, and provides novel and meaningful thinking for the construction of an excellent electromagnetic wave absorption composite.

CoFe/CoFe2O4 Embedded N, S-Doped Carbon Hybrid Derived From Sulfonate Asphalt as an Efficient Counter Electrode for Quantum Dot Sensitized Solar Cell

Jianguang Jia,Yue Cui,Chunfeng Shi,Haijun Hao

Developing a sustainable and cost-effective counter electrode (CE) material with high catalytic activity is of significant importance for quantum dot-sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs). In this work, by using the industrial residue material of sulfonated asphalt as the carbon precursor, we prepared a CoFe/CoFe 2 O 4 embedded N, S-doped carbon hybrid (CoFe/CoFe 2 O 4 @C) and applied to the CE of QDSSC. Structure analyses indicated that CoFe/CoFe 2 O 4 @C has a porous structure with large surface area. Electrochemical investigations revealed that the CoFe/CoFe 2 O 4 @C possesses high catalytic activity for polysulfide reduction. Consequently, CdSe QDSSC based on CoFe/CoFe 2 O 4 @C CE achieved a high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 6.37%, significantly superior to the commonly used PbS CE (5.4%). This study provides a sustainable strategy for converting the industrial residue material of asphalt into a low-cost and high-performance CE material for QDSSC.

Binder-free Ti3C2Tx MXene-assisted CoFe-LDH as highly stable bifunctional electrocatalyst for both oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions under high current density

Siraj Ullah,Waqas Ahmed,Shuozhen Hu,Xinsheng Zhang

Electrochemical water splitting is a potential method for sustainable hydrogen production. Achieving efficient and durable bifunctional electrocatalysts for alkaline water splitting remains challenging due to sluggish OER/HER kinetics and a reliance on noble metals. Here, we introduce MX-CoFe/EMN, a binder-free hybrid electrocatalyst fabricated by sequential electrodeposition of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene integrated CoFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanosheets onto nickel foam. Combining CoFe LDH with MXene, which serves as both conductive scaffold and active component, yields beneficial interfacial electronic interactions, enhanced charge transfer, and a high density of active sites. In 1.0 M KOH, MX-CoFe/EMN shows low overpotentials of 260 mV (OER) and 279 mV (HER) at ±100 mA cm −2 , small Tafel slopes 39 mV dec −1 (OER), 68 mV dec −1 (HER), and excellent durability of over 80 h at ±500 mA cm −2 . These findings demonstrate a scalable electrodepositin-based approach for developing highly active and durable non-noble-metal electrocatalysts for sustainable hydrogen generation.

Shuo Liu,Yufan Zhang,Lin Hao,Wei Shen,Anaclet Nsabimana,Shigang Shen

The development of cost-effective and efficient electrocatalysts for water electrolysis is crucial for sustainable hydrogen production. In this study, we designed a hierarchical Cr-CoFe-LDH composite using a tailored etching and doping strategy to enhance catalytic performance. By integrating mesoporous CoFe-LDH layers with C 2 O 4 2− anions and Cr dopants, we engineered a structure that optimizes mass transport, strengthens electronic interactions at active sites, and stabilizes key catalytic species. In situ spectroscopic analysis provided direct evidence of active species evolution, offering insights into the underlying reaction mechanisms. As a result, the Cr-CoFe-LDH catalyst exhibited excellent oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity, demonstrating enhanced intrinsic performance and long-term stability. This work presents a novel approach to designing high-performance LDH-based catalysts and advances the understanding of active site modulation for efficient water electrolysis.

Mo-doped CoFe-layered double hydroxides as an efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting: Effects of different molybdenum additions on catalytic performance

Lumei Zhang,Chun Han,Zheng Ye,Dongzhe Cui,Junyuan Yang,Hao Xu,Haiyan Song,Zehua Guo,Xiaoliang Wu,Yunhe Zhao

The layered double hydroxides (LDHs) electrocatalysts have emerged as promising electrocatalysts for electrolytic water splitting due to their simple synthesis, high activity. However, traditional LDH-based catalysts face the low electrical conductivity and durability under electrolysis conditions. In this work, Mo–CoFe LDH was prepared by a two-step hydrothermal method, and the effect of different molybdenum content on its catalytic performance was studied. Among them, the OER and HER properties of Mo-CoFe LDH-1 are better than those of non-Mo doping. Mo–CoFe LDH-1 has the low HER and OER overpotentials are 192 mV and 134 mV, respectively at 10 mA cm −2 . In addition, using Mo–CoFe LDH-1 for water splitting can achieve a low voltage of 1.55 V at 10 mA cm −2 , and it also showed a good stability within 100 h. The excellent properties of Mo–CoFe LDH-1 is mainly due to the formation of 3D nanoflower structure and the doping of Mo element in CoFe LDH, significantly adjusting its electronic structure. This work is of great significance for the design of bifunctional LDHs-based electrocatalysts.

Synergy of rapid adsorption and photo-Fenton-like degradation in CoFe-MOF/TiO2/PVDF composite membrane for efficient removal of antibiotics from water

Caixia Chen,Shumei Wang,Fang Han,Xiaoying Zhou,Benxia Li

The reasonable construction of composite membranes with dual functions of rapid adsorption and photo-Fenton-like oxidation degradation holds great significance in the field of wastewater purification. Herein, a poly(vinylidene fluoride)-based composite membrane (denoted as CFT/PVDF) was meticulously prepared through a nonsolvent induced phase separation (NIPS) process with the introduction of cobalt-iron metal–organic framework (CoFe-MOF) and TiO 2 (Degussa P25). The composite membrane exhibited an excellent adsorption ability for removing a variety of organic pollutants from water. With the integration of adsorptive filtration and in situ photo-Fenton-like degradation, the removal efficiency of tetracycline hydrochloride reached up to 92.9% through the CFT/PVDF membrane in one filtration process, and the remarkable performance could be maintained after ten consecutive cycles. Moreover, a group of CFT/PVDF membranes was connected in series to realize the fast and continuous wastewater treatment. The photo-Fenton-like oxidation mechanism and possible degradation pathways were proposed on the basis of active-species detections and degradation intermediates analysis. The toxicological analysis indicated that tetracycline was in situ degraded into less toxic intermediates and even nontoxic substances by the CFT/PVDF composite membrane. This work provides some valuable guidance on the construction of self-cleaning membranes for sustainable wastewater remediation and potential applications.

Fabrication of magnetic cobalt‑iron composite moored on carbon derived from cigarette butts (CoFe@CCB) for peroxymonosulfate activation to efficiently degrade Rhodamine B

Zihao Wang,Lijiao Yang,Zezhong Shan,Lu Tang,Cheng Chen,Yeqing Lan,Wei Li

In this study, the magnetic cobalt‑iron composite loaded on carbon derived from cigarette butts (Co Fe@CCB) was successfully prepared for the first time and applied for the activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade Rhodamine B (RhB). The results indicated that approximately 99 % of RhB (50 mg/L) was degraded by Co Fe@CCB (0.04 g/L) activated PMS (0.3 mM) within 15 min. The reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the reaction system were identified to be OH, SO 4 − and 1 O 2 , which responsible for the rapid degradation of RhB. It was also found that RhB could be efficiently removed in real water matrixes, demonstrating that Co Fe@CCB has excellent anti-interference performance. Meanwhile, strong magnetism of Co Fe@CCB made it easy to separate from water and recover for reuse. These results fully proved that Co Fe@CCB has good practical application potential. In addition, the combination of Co Fe@CCB and PMS still exhibited outstanding degradation efficiencies of phenacetin (PNT), bisphenol A (BPA), sulfamethazine (SMZ) and 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). Therefore, this study provides a new method for the reuse of discarded cigarette butts to fabricate catalysts with extremely superior performance and easy to use for PMS activation to eliminate organic pollutants from wastewater.

CoFe alloy nanoparticles embedded in vertically grown nanosheets on N-doped carbon nanofibers as a trifunctional electrocatalyst for high-performance microbial fuel cells

Xueying Wang,Haoshan Xu,Shuhong Huang,Xiaoxi Zeng,Ling Li,Xiaohui Zhao,Wenming Zhang

Herein, a novel MOF-derived trifunctional electrocatalyst with a three-dimensional hierarchical structure of N -doped carbon nanofibers (NCNFs) compounded with vertically grown nanosheets loaded with Co and CoFe alloy nanoparticles is reported. It is found that Co/CoFe NAs@NCNFs has a good half-wave potential of 0.83 V for ORR, the overpotential of 290 mV and 103 mV for OER and HER, respectively. When Co/CoFe NAs@NCNFs catalyst is employed on the cathode of a microbial fuel cell (MFC), the peak power density of the MFC can reach 2139.6 ± 43 mW m −2 , which is 1.56 times better than that of commercial Pt/C. Furthermore, the assembled MFCs can also successfully drive the water splitting. The above excellent performance is mainly due to the structure of the interwoven NCNF networks combined with nanosheets which greatly enhances the surface area and mass transfer capacity of the material, and the loaded nanoparticles are constructed into a large number of Fe-N x -C and Co-N x -C active sites, further increasing the catalytic performance of Co/CoFe NAs@NCNFs. This work could provide a novel approach to the regeneration and conversion of clean energy.
