This study explores the preparation of a Cs-doped Ru/ZrO 2 catalyst using a low eutectic system and its application in ammonia synthesis. Additionally, it examines the effect of Cs doping on enhancing the catalyst's resistance to hydrogen poisoning. Compared to the undoped Ru/ZrO 2 catalyst and the Cs–Ru/ZrO 2 –B catalyst prepared through the grinding method for promoter incorporation, the Cs–Ru/ZrO 2 -A catalyst synthesized using the low eutectic system demonstrated significantly enhanced activity. At 400 °C and 0.1 MPa, the Cs–Ru/ZrO 2 -A catalyst achieved an ammonia synthesis activity of 1769 μmol g cat −1 h −1 , which is approximately 35 times higher than that of the undoped Ru/ZrO 2 catalyst. The structure of the catalyst was analyzed using various material characterization techniques, including XRD, XPS, and SEM. The results showed that the Cs–Ru/ZrO 2 -A catalyst, prepared under identical conditions, exhibited no significant structural differences compared to other catalysts. However, further TPR and TPD analyses revealed that Cs interacts with Ru to some extent, affecting its reduction behavior and enhancing the catalytic reaction rate for ammonia synthesis. Additionally, detailed XPS analysis of all catalysts was conducted, leading to a proposed relationship between the catalytic reaction rate and the oxidation states of the metal components. The study revealed that the presence of Cs significantly inhibits hydrogen poisoning of the catalyst. Furthermore, it demonstrated that the addition of promoters enhances H 2 dissociation by supplying electrons to the active metal Ru, while Cs plays a crucial role in effectively suppressing hydrogen poisoning.

The imbalance of macrophage polarization between M1 and M2 phenotypes in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) results in a persistent inflammatory cascade. Activating M2 anti-inflammatory polarization, which remove excess extracellular matrix (ECM) via phagocytosis, represents a potential therapeutic target for RA. This study introduces Col/Cs@ECM microspheres, a novel drug delivery system designed for macrophage recognition via a tailored ECM surface, enhancing phagocytic efficiency and accumulation. Moreover, the Col/Cs@ECM microspheres are composed of biocompatible and fully degradable materials, ensuring their safety profile within the physiological environment. Following cell phagocytosis, the collagen/chitosan (Col/Cs) core release the drug (Dexamethasone, Dex) intracellularly to inhibit M1 polarization by inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway and to facilitate M2 polarization. This macrophage targeted and intracellular release approach offers a significant advantage over traditional medications by reducing systemic side effects and improving the therapeutic index. The strategy prompts macrophages to express anti-inflammatory cytokines like IL-10 while suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, thereby remodeling the immune microenvironment. Additionally, the specially engineered ECM shell of the microspheres extends the anti-inflammatory response by prolonging macrophage lifespan, a feature that is not present in conventional treatments. This results in improved treatment outcomes in an in vivo RA animal model. This research presents a possible intracellular anti-inflammatory treatment approach for rheumatoid arthritis injection therapy with the potential to outperform existing treatments in terms of efficacy and safety.

Modification of supported Cs-based catalysts has stimulated researchers’ interests, considering their effective catalytic performance in methyl methacrylate (MMA) production via one-step aldol condensation. Herein, we developed a series of Zr-incorporated SiO2-supported Cs (Cs/Zr-SiO2) catalysts using sol–gel in combination with solvothermal and impregnation methods. The structure and physicochemical properties were analyzed systematically by employing multiple characterization techniques, which guided the optimization of synthesis parameters such as Si/Zr molar ratio, prehydrolysis time, and Cs loading. The effects of catalyst structure, acid–base properties and their balance, and the chemical state of Cs and Zr species on the catalytic performance were systematically correlated. Results indicate that Zr was incorporated into the SiO2 framework with a four-coordinated configuration to form Si–O–Zr structures to act as Lewis acid sites, while the Cs component provides base sites through the formation of Cs–O–Si configurations. As a result, the methyl propionate (MP) conversion could reach up to 34.9% with MMA selectivity of 88.4%, representing 10–12% enhancement over the traditional impregnation method. In situ IR spectroscopic insights elucidated that the activation of formaldehyde and MP proceeded severally on the Si–O–Zr and Cs–O–Si sites, which seemed to be more efficient than those on an impregnation-prepared sample. Kinetic studies determined the activation energy of 115 kJ/mol, with reaction orders of 1.04 and 1.14 for MP and FA, respectively. In addition, the catalyst exhibited excellent regeneration and recycling behavior during the long-term stability test, and the initial activity of sample deactivated due to carbon deposition could be easily recovered after thermal treatment.

A long-period fiber grating (LPFG) sensor functionalized with titanium dioxide-chitosan/poly(acrylic acid) (TiO2-CS/PAA) composite film was proposed for detecting lead ion (Pb2+) concentration. The sensor was fabricated by sequentially coating TiO2-CS/PAA composite functionalized film on the LPFG surface via the Layer-by-Layer self-assembly (LbL) method. The CS/PAA layer acts as a general sensing film, with the abundant amino (-NH2) and hydroxyl (-OH) groups on chitosan providing sufficient chelation sites for Pb2+. Incorporation of PAA significantly improves both adsorption efficiency and mechanical stability. The sensitivity of the sensor is further enhanced by inserting a TiO2 layer with a high refractive index (RI), which can reduce the RI difference between the fiber and the external environment. Experimental results demonstrated that the resonance wavelength of LPFG exhibited a blue shift with the increase of Pb2+ concentration, achieving a maximum sensitivity of 36.5 nm/μM, a limit of detection (LOD) of 9.3 nM (0.00193 mg/L), and a rapid response time of approximately 10 minutes, along with high selectivity toward Pb2+. The proposed sensor features simple fabrication, excellent selectivity, and robust stability, indicating significant potential for Pb2+ monitoring applications.

Background and Purpose Nitidine chloride (NC) is a botanical drug renowned for its potent anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, and hepatocellular carcinoma-inhibiting properties; however, its limited solubility poses challenges to its development and application. To address this issue, we have devised a colon-targeted delivery system (NC-CS/PT-NPs) aimed at modulating the dysbiosis of the gut microbiota by augmenting the interaction between NC and the intestinal microbiota, thereby exerting an effect against nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Methods The NC-CS/PT-NPs were synthesized using the ion gel method. Subsequently, the particle size distribution, morphology, drug loading efficiency, and release behavior of the NC-CS/PT-NPs were characterized. Furthermore, the impact of NC-CS/PT-NPs on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) in mice was investigated through serum biochemical analysis, ELISA, and histochemical staining. Additionally, the influence of NC-CS/PT-NPs on intestinal microbiota was analyzed using 16S rDNA gene sequencing. Results The nanoparticles prepared in this study have an average particle size of (255.9±5.10) nm, with an encapsulation rate of (72.83±2.13) % and a drug loading of (4.65±0.44) %. In vitro release experiments demonstrated that the cumulative release rate in the stomach and small intestine was lower than 22.0%, while it reached 66.75% in the colon. In vivo experiments conducted on HFD-induced NAFLD mice showed that treatment with NC-CS/PT-NPs inhibited weight gain, decreased serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and lipid levels, improved liver and intestinal inflammation, and altered the diversity of gut microbiota in mice. Conclusion This study provides new evidence for the treatment of NAFLD through the regulation of gut microbiota using active ingredients from traditional Chinese medicine.

The misuse of the antibiotic ampicillin (AMP) has led to the presence of antibiotic residues in related products, which enter the human body through the ecological or food chain to produce a variety of toxic side effects. There is an urgent need to develop enzyme-based assays with higher specificity to determine antibiotic residues in food. Hereby, bismuth tungstate (Bi 2 WO 6 ) was synthesized using a simple hydrothermal and calcination process. Carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) were mixed with Bi 2 WO 6 by ultrasonication to form composite as modifier on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface. Meanwhile, metal β-lactamases (MBLs) were mixed with chitosan to be immobilized on it to obtain the MBLs/CS/Bi 2 WO 6 /MWCNTs-COOH/GCE. Under the optimal conditions, differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was used for the quantitative detection of AMP. The experimental results showed that the peak currents were linearly correlated with the concentrations of AMP (0.0007–0.05 μM) and (0.1–10 µM) (R 2 = 0.9965 and 0.9956), and the detection limit was 0.17 nM (S/N = 3). The method has good repeatability, reproducibility, stability and immunity to interference, and can be applied to the highly sensitive detection of AMP in real samples with recoveries of 92.4–96.8 % and 94.3–103.0 %.

Amidst the relentless innovation in materials science and bone tissue engineering, the quest for next-generation bone graft materials with bespoke functionalities has emerged as a pivotal research domain. This study produced and characterized a novel bone healing material. First, we explained how three-armed polylactic acid (3s-PLA) was created in supercritical carbon dioxide (ScCO 2 ) and utilized as a matrix material. Following that, we described how the solution blending approach was employed to create three-armed polylactic acid/chitosan/nanohydroxyapatite (3s-PLA/CS/nHA) composites. The composites were then drug-loaded with prednisone acetate as a model drug utilizing the supercritical impregnation technique. Ultimately, the Ritger-Peppas model was substantially followed by the drug release of the drug-loaded composites when the in vitro drug-release kinetics of the drug-loaded materials were investigated. The porous structure of 3s-PLA was demonstrated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) hydrogen spectroscopy. Morphologic studies using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed the homogeneous distribution of drug in the matrix of the mixtures as well as the porous structure of 3s-PLA and 3s-PLA/CS/nHA. The hydrophilicity of 3s-PLA/CS/nHA was examined by the use of water contact angle (WCA), revealing that the material in question has a hydrophilic water contact angle of 45.69°. Furthermore, research was conducted using one-way tests and investigations to characterize in vitro drug-release carrier materials under various drug conditions and temperatures. The carrier material consistently released up to 84.8% of prednisone acetate over the course of 72 h, demonstrating good control over prolonged release, according to the results. Graphical abstract

Acyclovir (Acyclovir, ACV) is an antiviral drug which, despite its favorable safety profile, can have systemic adverse effects, following improper use. This study prepared a clay-like two-dimensional transition metal carbide Ti 3 C 2 by etching Ti 3 AlC 2 with LiF and HCl. Carboxylated multi walled carbon nanotubes (Carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes , MWCNTs-COOH) were combined with Ti 3 C 2 using chitosan (Chitosan, CS) as solvent and ultrasonic treatment . The nanocomposite was then modified onto the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (Glassy carbon electrode, GCE) to develop an electrochemical sensor for the detection of ACV. The Ti 3 C 2 -CS-MWCNTs-COOH/GCE nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffractometry (X-ray diffractometry, XRD), scanning electron microscope (Scanning electron microscope,SEM), and cyclic voltammetry (Cyclic voltammetry,CV), as well as the electrochemical impedance method (Electrochemical impedance,EIS). The successful preparation of Ti 3 C 2 -CS-MWCNTs-COOH, and the good electrochemical performance of the electrode were verified. Linear scanning voltammetry (Linear scan voltammetry,LSV) was used to quantify the ACV. The linear range of the method is wider than other works (0.05 ∼ 20.0 and 20.0 ∼ 500.0 μM), with a low detection limit (0.088 μM). The sensor achieves sensitive detection of ACV and can be used for the analysis of ACV in pharmaceutical and urine dosage forms , with recoveries of 95.5∼97.6% and 95.6∼97.5%, respectively. For the first time, this sensor utilizes clay-like Ti 3 C 2 with a larger specific surface area in combination with MWCNTs-COOH for ACV detection, which exhibits excellent immunity to interference, repeatability, reproducibility, and stability. This method provides a rapid and sensitive method for the determination of ACV, and lays foundations for developing miniaturized field rapid test detectors.

Achieving satisfactory separation of N, N-Dimethylformamide (DMF)/water is still challenging in industrial wastewater treatment. To address this issue, a novel method involving pervaporation (PV) separation using polyvinyl alcohol/chitosan (PVA/CS) blend films is proposed. Various characterization methods confirmed the strong compatibility between PVA and CS, and the blending improved their mechanical properties and thermal stability. Heat treatment significantly reduced the swelling degree of the membranes. In a binary aqueous system with low concentrations of DMF, controlled separation can be achieved by adjusting the blending ratio of PVA to CS. The membranes exhibited preferential selectivity for DMF when the CS content is 40–75 wt%, which allowed for the concentration and recovery of DMF. At 20 °C with a feed of 10 wt% DMF solution, 2 h heat-treated PVA/CS-50 membrane exhibited the best performance, which could be attributed to its strong hydrogen bonding force, with a total flux of 484.09 g m −2 h −1 and a separation factor of 5.41 for DMF. The PVA/CS blend membranes exhibit excellent acid and alkali resistant and are promising candidates for the separation and recovery of DMF from industrial wastewater by membrane technology.

Two new antimony fluoride sulfates named A6Sb4F12(SO4)3 (A = Rb, Cs) with unique crown-like clusters have been successfully synthesized by introducing Sb3+ with a stereochemically active lone pair in the sulfate system through a facile hydrothermal method. The structure regulation induced by the cation sizes results in the symmetry difference in these two title compounds, i.e., Rb6Sb4F12(SO4)3 crystallizing in the polar noncentrosymmetric (NCS) space group of P3 and Cs6Sb4F12(SO4)3 in the centrosymmetric (CS) space group of P1̅. Detailed characterizations, including XRD, thermal behaviors, optical properties, and the theoretical calculations, for these two compounds have been performed. The discovery of the unique crown-like clusters observed in A6Sb4F12(SO4)3 (A = Rb, Cs) enriches the diversity of structures for antimony sulfates systems. Simultaneously, a summary and comparison for all reported antimony halide sulfates has been made to illustrate the synergistic effect of the stoichiometric ratio and cation sizes on the macroscopic centricity and the framework structure, which will guide the systematical discovery of antimony(III)-based functional materials in future.

The Cs-Zr/SiO 2 exhibits excellent catalytic performance on the aldol condensation of methyl propionate with formaldehyde to methyl methacrylate (MMA), however, the catalyst deactivation caused by coking still remains challenging. In this work, the coke deposition induced deactivation behavior of Cs-Zr/SiO 2 samples prepared by ion-exchange and impregnation methods were systematically investigated using NMR, Raman spectroscopy, physical N 2 adsorption–desorption, HR-TEM and TG analysis. The results show that the catalyst prepared by the ion-exchange strategy mainly forms removable amorphous carbon of aliphatic species and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, whereas the impregnated sample tends to evolve from similar sources into carbonaceous compounds with higher graphitization degree and structural stability. Further analysis of the deactivation mechanism indicates that different amounts and types of coke deposited on the catalyst surface induce pore blockage, ultimately leading to catalyst deactivation. MMA is verified as the primary source of coke formation, with proposal of detailed pathway, through comparative experiments using different feed streams. Furthermore, a kinetic model for carbon deposition on the catalyst prepared by ion-exchange method was established by modification of classical Voorhies equation with feed component, and the apparent activation energy for coke formation is determined as 79.4 kJ/mol.

In view of the prominent issues in compatibility, sustainability, and performance stability of existing polymer-based electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding films, this work proposes a strategy for preparation of a series of novel flame retardant and EMI shielding composite films, which were fabricated using cellulose nanofibers (CNF)/MXene/chitosan-modified hollow glass microspheres (HGM@CS) as the matrix, and flame-retardant thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU/APP-NH 2 @LDH) as the encapsulation shell. The results demonstrated that the CNF/MXene/HGM@CS/TPU/APP-NH 2 @LDH (CM x HTA) composite films exhibited good hydrophobicity (with a water contact angle of 100.6°), and superior flame retardancy. The peak heat release rate and total heat release of as-prepared CM 2 HTA composite film were decreased by 53.0% and 52.2%, respectively, compared with those of pure CNF/TPU composite film. The improvement in flame-retardant performance is attributed to the synergistic mechanism of APP-NH 2 @LDH, HGM@CS, and MXene in both the gas phase and the condensed phase. Due to the electromagnetic shielding mechanism of “surface reflection-internal absorption”, the values of EMI shielding effectiveness of the CM 3 HTA composite film reached 43.5 dB and 56.7 dB in the X-band and K-band, respectively, far exceeding the requirements for commercial shielding materials (≥20 dB). This study provides a new approach for developing high-performance, multifunctional, and environmentally friendly electromagnetic shielding composites in the application of electronic protection, smart packaging and wearable devices, etc.
