Sintering behavior, structure, and microwave properties of novel Li2xCu1-xMoO4 ceramics

Xinyuan Lyu,Zhengxin Li,Jingjing Jin,Yuze Xue,Chaogang Yu,Luchao Ren,Mingwei Zhang,Hongqing Zhou

In this study, we prepared a novel series of Li 2 x Cu 1- x MoO 4 ( x  = 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, and 0.10) microwave ceramics. The dynamic sintering behavior, crystal phases, micro-morphologies, and dielectric properties of the samples were studied. The substitution of Li + contributed to refining the crystal grain size, promoting the densification of microstructure, and enhancing the quality factor. Due to different valence substitutions, Cu + ions were created, which were verified by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman experiments. In addition, the Raman shift, full width at half maximum (FWHM) value of the A 1g peak, and crystal microstrains were analyzed to gain a mechanistic understanding of the influence of structure on the dielectric properties . When x  = 0.08, the Li 2 x Cu 1- x MoO 4 ceramic sintered at 675 °C exhibited optimal comprehensive properties with ε r  = 8.17, Qf = 68 476 GHz, and τ f  = −25 ppm/°C, and good chemical stability between the ceramic and Al electrode was also achieved. These promising properties make Li 2 x Cu 1- x MoO 4 ( x  = 0.08) more suitable for ultra-low temperature co-fired ceramic (ULTCC) applications.

The Electrolytic Reduction of Gd2O3 in LiCl-KCl-Li2O Molten Salt

Nan Ji,Tiejian Zhu,Hao Peng,Feng Jiang,Wei Huang,Yu Gong

In the common spent fuels, actinides and fission products are generally in the form of oxide, so direct dealing with oxide will be the most convenient way for spent fuel reprocessing. In this work, the electrolytic reduction of Gd2O3 has been studied in LiCl-KCl-Li2O (1 wt%) melts at different conditions, and the effect of sintering temperature on the porosity of Gd2O3 powder and the electrochemical behavior of Li2O in LiCl-KCl molten salt were investigated, too. The diffusion coefficient of O2− was calculated to be 2.0 × 10−5 cm2·s−1 in LiCl-KCl melts on the Mo electrode at 923 K by cyclic voltammetry (CV). The electrode process of Gd2O3 powder was also analyzed in LiCl-KCl-Li2O (1 wt%) melts, and the formation process of composite oxide LiGdO2 was determined. By the analysis of XRD and oxygen content characterization, it was suggested that after 74 h electrolysis (923 K, 3.40 V), the oxygen content of Gd2O3 cathode decreased from 12.25 wt% to 1.41 wt%, indicating 88.5% Gd2O3 was reduced to metal.

Alloy-type Mo single-atom catalyst enhancing hydrogen storage performance of MgH2

Cenyu Yang,Chen Hu,Xiaoyu Wu,Yao Pang,Xiaofang Liu,Jianglan Shui

Metallic single-atom catalysts (SACs) have demonstrated high activity and potential in enhancing the hydrogen storage properties of MgH 2 . However, previous reports primarily focus on supported SACs, which often suffer from insufficient contact between single-atom active sites and hydrogen storage materials. In this study, the precursor Mo(CO) 6 is uniformly dispersed on the surface of MgH 2 via impregnation adsorption, leading to the formation of alloy-type Mo single atoms after hydrogenation/dehydrogenation activation. This alloy structure enables zero-distance contact between catalytic sites and the hydrogen storage material, facilitating electron exchange and hydrogen transfer between the Mo sites and MgH 2 . The MgH 2 loaded with Mo single atoms (Mo 1 -MgH 2 ) exhibits excellent hydrogen absorption and desorption properties, with the initial hydrogen release temperature lowered from 323 to 218 °C. At 250 °C, Mo 1 -MgH 2 absorbs over 6.77 wt% of hydrogen within 1 min and releases over 5.85 wt% within 4 h. During 10 cycles of hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions, Mo 1 -MgH 2 maintains nearly 100% capacity and shows stable kinetics. This work provides new insights into the design and fabrication of catalysts for hydrogen storage materials.

CoFe LDH/Mo-Ni3S2 heterogeneous electrocatalyst for alkaline efficient oxygen evolution reaction

Xiaoning Tong,Junli Wang,Yuantao Yang,Zhenwei Liu,Jing Wang,Can Zhang,Qingxiang Kong,Ruidong Xu,Linjing Yang

Currently, hydrogen production through water electrolysis stands out as one of the most promising methods. However, the efficiency of hydrogen production is limited by the anodic oxygen evolution reaction , which involves a four-electron transfer process. Therefore, the development of an efficient and durable anode catalyst is important to reduce energy consumption and increase the hydrogen production rate. Herein, the Mo-doped Ni 3 S 2 nanopillar structures were successfully synthesized by hydrothermal process on nickel foam (NF). Subsequently, nanosheets of CoFe-layered double hydroxides (LDH) thin films were deposited to obtain the CoFe-LDH/Mo-Ni 3 S 2 /NF catalyst. Physical characterization results revealed polycrystalline properties of the CoFe LDH nanosheets , while a non-homogeneous interface was also formed with Mo-doped Ni 3 S 2 nanopillars. The contact angle verified the excellent hydrophilicity , which allowed the rapid release of oxygen bubbles. In terms of electrocatalysis , the catalyst exhibited an overpotential of only 227 mV at 10 mA/cm 2 and demonstrated remarkable current density retention after 100 h. The catalyst was also characterized by good retention of the current density at 10 mA/cm 2 . This work provided the strategy for designing efficient, inexpensive and durable catalysts.

Highly efficient photocatalytic MO degradation by ZnCdS composite photocatalyst modified with MgTi2O5

Xiaoqi Xie,Mingang Fan,Hongli Du,Li Feng,Chao Liu

Recently, ZnCdS has become an attractive visible-light-driven photocatalyst due to its tunable band gap and suitable band edge position. However, fast recombination of photo-generated carriers in ZnCdS still restricting its industrial application. In this paper, a novel and high-efficiency MgTi 2 O 5 /ZnCdS composite was constructed by in situ growth of ZnCdS nanoparticles on MgTi 2 O 5 . The photocatalytic activity of the Mg 2 TiO 5 /ZnCdS composite was evaluated using methyl orange (MO), tetracycline (TC), and methylene blue (MB). The results show that the as-prepared hybrid exhibited highly efficient photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation, and the degradation efficiencies in 1 h reach about 93 %, 96.2 % and 94.5 % for MO, TC and MB, respectively, while the pure ZnCdS show only 60 % degradation efficiency under the same conditions, respectively. The improved photocatalytic activity could be attributed to the high efficient charge separation and fast charge transport in the MgTi 2 O 5 /ZnCdS composite, which are mainly due to the built-in electron field formed at the joint of the Mg 2 TiO 5 /ZnCdS heterojunction.

Mechanical behavior of AlN/Mo functionally graded materials with various compositional structures

Fei Chen,Mingyong Jia,Yulong She,Yueqi Wu,Qiang Shen,Lianmeng Zhang

In this paper, aluminum nitride (AlN) and molybdenum (Mo) were used for fabrication of AlN/Mo functionally graded materials by spark plasma sintering (SPS). In order to study the influence of microstructure on mechanical properties in AlN/Mo FGMs, the FGMs with different composition exponent p value were analyzed by indentation and bending test . The results showed that the specimens with p  < 1 exhibited a metal-rich graded structure comparing to specimens with p  ≥ 1. The radial bending and shear strength of AlN/Mo FGMs reached maximum when p  < 1, which are 369.78 MPa and 48.01 MPa respectively. Moreover, comparing with the porosity and the ceramic/metal interface, the distribution of the two components is the most important factor for improvement of bending and shear strength. The more the hard metal network content in the graded layer, the higher the bending and shear strength of AlN/Mo FGMs.

Recycling of valuable metals from spent catalysts in a green way is gaining extensive interest for economic and environment reasons. In this study, we developed novel hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents to extract Mo from spent catalysts. The hydrophobic DESs have been designed and synthesized by mixing one molar of the quaternary ammonium salt and two molars of various saturated fatty acids with different carbon chain lengths. The extraction ability and extraction mechanism of these DESs were studied, some factors influencing the extraction efficiency, including the structure of hydrogen bond acceptors and hydrogen bond donors, initial aqueous pH, reaction time and temperature, phase ratios were investigated. It is found that the synthesized hydrophobic DESs exhibit excellent extraction performance toward Mo, where the Mo distribution ratio is more than 2200 in the presence of other metals, corresponding to an extraction efficiency of 99% at optimal reaction conditions. This work reveals a distinct class of materials, guiding an effective and green way for spent catalyst treatment.Implications: Novel hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents have been developed to extract Mo from spent catalysts, the synthesized hydrophobic DESs possess several advantages, such as green, low price, low toxicity, and biodegradability. Facilitating active NiOOH formation via Mo doping towards high-efficiency oxygen evolution

Liuqing Wang,Jinsheng Li,Qinglei Meng,Meiling Xiao,Changpeng Liu,Wei Xing,Jianbing Zhu

The insufficient performance of non-noble metal catalysts in alkaline media is a prominent issue that limits the widespread adoption of electrocatalytic water splitting. In this study, we present an efficient Mo doping strategy to boost the electrocatalytic performance of NiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) through modulating the electronic structure of active Ni sites. The optimized Mo doped NiFe-LDH (denoted as NiFeMo-2) exhibits significantly improved activity, showing a smaller overpotential of 262 mV at 10 mA cm−2 compared to NiFe-LDH (344 mV). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra demonstrate that the incorporation of Mo not only increases the electron cloud density of Ni, but also induces more oxygen vacancies. Due to these structural modifications, the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) kinetics is dramatically enhanced, confirmed by in situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Moreover, in situ Raman spectroscopy shows that the Mo doping can facilitate the formation of active NiOOH species at a lower potential, thus accelerating the OER kinetics. The in situ differential electrochemical mass spectrometry (DEMS) technique with 18O isotope labelling, tetraalkylammonium cation (TMA+) chemical probe, and ethanol oxidation reaction suggest that the NiFeMo-LDH catalyst primarily follows the adsorbate evolution mechanism (AEM) pathway, the promoted dehydrogenation process with the modulation of *OH adsorption. This study reports a high-performance non-noble metal OER electrocatalyst and unveils the origins of metal doping to enhance the OER kinetics.

Nanocages: Metal–Organic Polyhedra (MOPs) to Form M/MO Embedded Carbon Polyhedra

Nazir Ahmad,Hussein A. Younus,Zafar A. K. Khattak,Adnan Ali Khan,Francis Verpoort

Metal–organic polyhedra (MOPs) are discrete and intrinsically porous molecular self-assemblies. MOPs exhibit rich surface chemistry; the existence of peripheral reactive sites is exploited by post-synthetic covalent and/or coordination-based polymeric structures by maintaining MOP identities. By further treatment, the dimensions of cuboctahedral MOPs are manipulated in an unprecedented manner into next-generation metal/metal oxides-doped carbon polyhedron nanocages/nanospheres. Herein, the predesigned mixed metal and metal oxides dopped carbon nanopolyhedral spheres/cages (M/MO@CNS) are obtained through the pyrolysis of MOPs. These composites are characterized by FTIR, Raman, PXRD, BET, ICP, XPS, FE-SEM, and TEM techniques. The spherical morphology of the nanomaterial is preserved as carbon spheres doped with metal-based nanoparticles (Cu 0 Co 0 /Cu 2 OCoO@CNS), demonstrating excellent electrocatalytic performance. Compared to commercial iridium oxide, the carbon nanospheres incorporating metals/metal oxides presented a high activity profile for alkaline water oxidation. Catalysts prepared at 600°C and 1000°C revealed maximum current densities, as compared to the commercial IrO 2 benchmark catalyst. The current densities of 10 mA/cm 2 recorded low overpotentials/η 10 and Tafel slopes than IrO 2, with lower charge transfer resistance. Combined post-catalysis analyses and DFT calculations demonstrate that the synergistic interaction within Cu 2 O/CoO@CNS optimizes the electronic structure and promotes electron transfer. It also balances the free energies of key intermediates and reduces the energy barrier of the OER rate-determining step, resulting in enhanced catalytic performance. The MOPs derived next-generation carbon-nanocages are tested for catalytic stability via chronopotentiometry, which shows that these composites remained stable during several hours of electrolysis.

Mo/NiCu Heterometallic Interfaces for the Selective Electrosynthesis of Nitrite from Ammonia

Jie Chen,Silu Shi,Haotian Tan,Mengdi Wang,Xinyuan Zhang,Xiao Yan,Shuai Yan,Ji Liang

The electrochemical ammonia oxidation reaction (AOR) holds great promise due to its potentially low energy consumption and the production of high-value nitrites. However, achieving high efficiency and selectivity in the conversion of ammonia to nitrites remains a significant challenge owing to the diversity and competitiveness of reaction pathways. In this work, a NiCu-loaded Mo catalyst (denoted as Mo/NiCu) was synthesized via a simple hydrothermal method followed by high-temperature reduction. Comprehensive characterization and theoretical investigations reveal that the interfacial electronic interaction between Mo and the NiCu alloys effectively modulate the Fermi level of the NiCu catalyst, thereby enhancing ammonia adsorption and promoting the ammonia oxidation reaction. Electrocatalytic performance tests in a flow cell configuration demonstrate that the catalyst achieves 98% nitrite selectivity at 1.9 V and maintains stable operation for over 60 h. This study provides a new strategy for designing efficient, stable, and cost-effective AOR catalysts, thereby facilitating the practical application of electrocatalytic nitrite synthesis.

Efficiency and Mechanism of Naproxen Degradation in the Mo/Fe3+/H2O2 System

Guodong Wan,Jiaqi Ding,Ruixin Zeng,Zhenbin Chen,Hua Li,Yujie Cheng,Zongping Wang,Pengchao Xie,Hongwei Zhang

Naproxen (NPX) is a widely occurring, refractory organic contaminant that cannot be removed by conventional water treatment processes. In response to the growing environmental pollution caused by NPX, an innovative and highly efficient green degradation method has been developed, designed on the principles of sustainability to promote long-term ecosystem health and advance a circular economy. In this study, using zero-valent molybdenum as a catalyst in combination with trivalent iron (Fe3+) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), we constructed a Mo/Fe3+/H2O2system to treat NPX-contaminated water. The effects of solution pH, H2O2concentration, Fe3+concentration, Mo dosage, and co-existing water-matrix constituents (Cl−, HCO3−, PO43−, NO3−, and humic acid (HA)) on NPX removal were investigated; reactive species were identified; and the reusability of Mo as well as its performance under the continuous-flow condition were evaluated. The results showed that the optimal pH was 3 and the appropriate Fe3+dosage is 100 µM. With 500 µM H2O2, 87.9% of NPX was removed within 7 min, and a moderate increase in Fe3+concentration, together with a suitable H2O2level, enhanced the removal efficiency. HCO3−, Cl−, and HA exerted slight inhibition, whereas PO43−markedly suppressed NPX degradation. Recycling tests and the 6 h continuous-flow treatment demonstrated excellent reusability and stability of Mo. Quenching experiments revealed that HO•and Fe(IV) were the dominant reactive species responsible for NPX degradation.

Mo2N Enhanced Fenton-Like Process: Role of Mo Reducibility and N Adsorption

Chen Shiqi,Huang Zhixuan,He Wentao,Wang Xinyu,Yang Zhiwei,Zhang Jing

Molybdenum nitride, because of the strong metal-support interaction between nitrogen and the metal, exhibits activity superior to that of bare metals, demonstrating its effectiveness as a co-catalyst to address the slow kinetics of the iron reduction in the Fenton process. Here, we introduced Mo 2 N as a co-catalyst to accelerate the cycles of Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ within a Fenton-like system consisting of Fe 3+ and H 2 O 2 , thereby enhancing the activation of hydrogen peroxide to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS). The system demonstrates excellent recyclability and stability. XPS spectroscopic analyses reveal that Mo(III) and Mo(IV) species on the Mo 2 N surface are capable of reducing free Fe(III), while FTIR analyses show nitrogen (N) and nitrogen oxide (NO x ) facilitate the adsorption and coordination of iron. Both homogeneous and heterogeneous reduced iron species are active in the activation of H 2 O 2 . EPR spectroscopy further confirms that the primary ROS generated are hydroxyl radicals (·OH) and superoxide anions (·O 2 − ). This study not only underscores the feasibility of Mo 2 N-based Fenton-like systems but also provides a new strategy for promoting the practical application of Fenton chemistry. Graphical
