Rational design and controllable construction of supported nanostructures with excellent antibacterial property remain a great challenge. Recently, transition metal carbides/nitrides/carbonitrides (MXenes) have attracted much interest in many fields due to their large specific surface areas and good photothermal property. Herein, a simple yet effective surface engineering strategy based on the tuning of MXene surface chemistry is presented, which allows in-situ controlled growth of the Pd nanocubes on the V 2 CT x nanosheets. Briefly, the exfoliated V 2 CT x nanosheets by HF are annealed, which changes the composition of surface terminations while creating the mesoporous structures. The annealing largely affects the exposure and oxidation states of the adjacent V atoms and allows the controllable growth of Pd nanocubes. Interestingly, the obtained Pd@V 2 CT x nanocomposites show enhanced peroxidase-/oxidase-like activities and intrinsic photothermal effect in the near infra-red (NIR) region due to the strong metal-support interaction. Furthermore, the combined nanocatalytic-photothermal treatment by their versatilities remarkably improves the antibacterial efficacy, giving a high killing rate (above 98 % for both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus ). This work provides a new avenue to develop the supported metal nanostructures based on MXenes for antibacterial application.

Solid-solution MXenes have emerged as a transformative class of 2D materials, offering unprecedented control over electronic structure and redox activity through M-site compositional tuning. However, their broader development remains constrained by the extreme synthesis temperatures (>1400°C) and complex stoichiometric mixing protocols required for conventional solid-state MAX phase synthesis, which result in secondary phase formation, elemental inhomogeneity, and limited scalability. This study addresses these challenges by introducing a low-temperature, pre-alloyed precursor strategy, the first successful synthesis of a quaternary (Ti,V,Fe) 2 AlC solid-solution MAX phase via molten salt-assisted synthesis at a substantially reduced temperature of 950°C, employing commercial Ti-6Al-4V alloy as the precursor to guarantee atomic-scale transition metal distribution. The resulting MAX phase was subsequently converted into (Ti,V,Fe) 2 C MXene via in-situ hydrofluoric acid (HF) etching using three fluoride salts (LiF, NaF, and NH 4 F), demonstrating that etchant chemistry is a powerful parameter for engineering MXene morphology and electrochemical behavior. A key finding of this work is the direct morphology controllability imparted by fluoride salt selection. LiF-assisted etching produces open, loosely aligned lamellae with expanded interlayer spacing (d ≈ 9.55 Å) and the highest specific capacitance of 126.9 F/g at 5 mV/s; NaF-assisted etching yields compact, well-ordered onion-like aggregates (d ≈ 9.45 Å) with superior interfacial charge-transfer kinetics (R ct = 1.58 Ω); and NH 4 F-assisted etching results in aggressively degraded, defect-rich morphology with significantly reduced performance (65.8 F/g). These results establish an energy-efficient, industrially scalable pathway for the production of morphology-engineered, multi-elemental MXene electrodes and provide a robust mechanistic framework linking etchant hydration chemistry to structural architecture and electrochemical function.

Although flexible and multifunctional textile-based electronics are promising for wearable devices, it is still a challenge to seamlessly integrate excellent conductivity into textiles without sacrificing their intrinsic flexibility and breathability. Herein, the vertically interconnected conductive networks are constructed based on a meshy template of weave cotton fabrics with interwoven warp and weft yarns. The two-dimensional early transition metal carbides/nitrides (MXenes), with unique metallic conductivity and hydrophilic surfaces, are uniformly and intimately attached to the preformed fabric via a spray-drying coating approach. Through adjusting the spray-drying cycles, the degree of conductive interconnectivity for the fabrics is precisely tuned, thereby affording highly conductive and breathable fabrics with integrated Joule heating, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and strain sensing performances. Interestingly, triggered by the interwoven conductive architecture, the MXene-decorated fabrics with a low loading of 6 wt % (0.78 mg cm–2) offer an outstanding electrical conductivity of 5 Ω sq–1. The promising electrical conductivity further endows the fabrics with superior Joule heating performance with a heating temperature up to 150 °C at a supply voltage of 6 V, excellent EMI shielding performance, and highly sensitive strain responses to human motion. Consequently, this work offers a novel strategy for the versatile design of multifunctional textile-based wearable devices.

Despite the fact that human neural cell models have played significant roles in both research and cell replacement therapies for neurological diseases, the existing techniques for obtaining neurons from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) are arduous and intricate. Additionally, the evaluation of neuron quality in the natural environment remains deficient. Consequently, we have developed a comprehensive platform utilizing magnetic-field-directed self-assembly (MDSA) of MXenes@Fe3O4 (M/F) nanocomposites. This platform facilitates the cultivation and in situ analysis of differentiated dopaminergic (DA) neurons. Our results showed that the introduction of M/F enhances neurite outgrowth and leads to the development of more intricate ramifications. Moreover, with the increase of magnetic field intensity, neurite outgrowth is further enhanced, and the proportion of differentiated mature neurons from hPSCs increases. This suggests that our platform promotes the maturation of neurons, emphasizing the crucial role of biophysical cues in expediting the differentiation process. The homogenization platform formed by MDSA of M/F nanocomposites exhibits high conductivity, leading to its exceptional performance in the real-time monitoring of the release of dopamine neurotransmitter from hPSC-derived DA neurons. Hence, this platform demonstrates significant potential for monitoring cell quality. In conclusion, our integrated platform, based on MDSA of M/F nanocomposites, offers a reliable and efficient means for the in vitro generation of human neurons with a controllable quality. The as-prepared platform holds potential for enhancing neuronal maturation and ensuring consistent cell quality, showing significant implications for in vitro biological research, disease modeling, and cell replacement therapy.

Since the synthesis of non-oxidized ceramic and alloy powders requires both high temperature and oxygen insulation conditions, here we demonstrate a cost-efficient molten salt sealing/shielded synthesis method with dynamic gas tightness. Compared to conventional synthesis method, it can prevent the loss of reaction materials at high temperature, cut off the connection between reacting material and outside air, and does not require long-time ball milling mixing treatment or provision of applied pressing before or during heating. Only low-cost salts (e.g., NaCl, KCl), a few minutes of raw material mixing, and regular heating molds are required to obtain high-purity (>96 wt%), micron-sized Ti 3 AlC 2 and Ti 3 SiC 2 powders with narrow size distribution, which significantly decreased the complexity and production costs in the synthesis process. The effect of temperature and raw material content on the products were investigated. The mechanism of diffusion reaction between reactants in molten salt environment was analyzed. The new method developed here was also applicable to Ti 2 AlC, V 2 AlC and Cr 2 AlC MAX phases, as well as provided new ideas for the preparation of other MXenes precursors with certain stoichiometric ratios, air-sensitive materials and nanopowders .
