Modulating the electromagnetic properties of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene to produce an ideal multifunctional and efficient microwave absorbent is a challenging research hotspot. Although the atomic layer deposited transition magnetic metal nanostructures are a feasible strategy, the effects of the components and microstructure of the introduced magnetic nanostructure on the electromagnetic wave absorption performances of the MXene are still far from clear. Here, the Fe element has been selected as the modifier, and a heterostructure Fe/Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene hybrid is constructed by the atomic layer deposition of Fe nanoparticles on the Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets. The influences of the deposition cycles on the chemical composition, microstructure, electromagnetic response characteristics, and microwave absorption properties are investigated. The results show that the decoration of Fe nanoparticles enables a tunable electromagnetic performance. The Fe/Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene hybrid achieves an optimal attenuation with the minimum reflection loss of -82.94 dB at a small thickness of 1.16 mm, corresponding with an effective absorption bandwidth of 3.76 GHz. The strong microwave absorption is attributed to the dielectric-magnetic synergy in the MXene and Fe nanoparticles, which provides excellent impedance matching, interfacial and dipolar polarization loss, and magnetic resonance loss. Specifically, the hybrid endows a low Fe content of 2.66 wt%. This is important for the design of a lightweight absorber with high attenuation efficiency.

The renaissance of aqueous Zn ion batteries has drawn intense attention to Zn metal anode issues, including dendrites growth, dead Zn, low efficiency, and other parasitic reactions. However, against the widely used 2D Zn foil, in fact, the Zn powder anode is a more practical choice for Zn-based batteries in industrial applications, but the related solutions are rarely investigated. Herein, we focus on the Zn powder anode and disclose its unknown failure mechanism different from Zn foils. By utilization of 2D flexible conductive Ti3C2Tx MXene flakes with hexagonal close-packed lattice as electrons and ions redistributor, a stable and highly reversible Zn powder anode without dendrite growth and low polarization is constructed. Low lattice mismatch (∼10%) enables a coherent heterogeneous interface between the (0002) plane of deposited Zn and (0002) plane of the Ti3C2Tx MXene. Thus, the Zn2+ ions are induced to undergo rapid uniform nucleation and sustained reversible stripping/plating with low energy barriers via the internally bridged shuttle channels. Paired with cyano group iron hexacyanoferrate (FeHCF) cathode, the FeHCF//MXene@Zn full battery delivers superior cycle durability and rate capability, whose service life with a CE of near 100% touches 850% of bare Zn powder counterparts. The proposed Ti3C2Tx MXene redistributor strategy concerning high-speed electrons/ions channel, low-barrier heterogeneous interface, is expected to be widely applied to other alkali metal anodes.

Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene-based coaxial zinc-ion hybrid fiber supercapacitors (FSCs) were fabricated with braided structure, which can be prepared continuously and present excellent flexibility and ultrastability.
A sports watch driven by the watch belts which weaved uses the obtained zinc-ion hybrid FSC and LED arrays lighted by the FSCs under embedding into textiles, demonstrating the great potential application in smart wearable textiles.
Abstract Zinc-ion hybrid fiber supercapacitors (FSCs) are promising energy storages for wearable electronics owing to their high energy density, good flexibility, and weavability. However, it is still a critical challenge to optimize the structure of the designed FSC to improve energy density and realize the continuous fabrication of super-long FSCs. Herein, we propose a braided coaxial zinc-ion hybrid FSC with several meters of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene cathode as core electrodes, and shell zinc fiber anode was braided on the surface of the Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene fibers across the solid electrolytes. According to the simulated results using ANSYS Maxwell software, the braided structures revealed a higher capacitance compared to the spring-like structures. The resulting FSCs exhibited a high areal capacitance of 214 mF cm –2 , the energy density of 42.8 μWh cm −2 at 5 mV s −1 , and excellent cycling stability with 83.58% capacity retention after 5000 cycles. The coaxial FSC was tied several kinds of knots, proving a shape-controllable fiber energy storage. Furthermore, the knitted FSC showed superior stability and weavability, which can be woven into watch belts or embedded into textiles to power smart watches and LED arrays for a few days.

Two-dimensional titanium carbide (Ti 3 C 2 T x ) MXene has many distinctive advantages, including high conductivity, energy-storing, catalysis, etc. In particular, its accordion-like lamellar structure could provide excellent barrier properties to corrosive agents, which exhibit potential application value for anti-corrosion coatings. However, the problem that MXenes are susceptible to oxidative degradation in an aggressive environment limits its further application in the field of corrosion prevention. Herein, in our work for the first time, an effective method was developed for protecting sensitive Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene against oxidation by imidazolium salt modification (I-Ti 3 C 2 T x ), which considerably increased MXene antioxidant stability. The crystalline structure of I-Ti 3 C 2 T x remained unaltered in an aqueous solution for 30 days and kept the lamellar structure for a long period. Simultaneously, 1.0 wt% I-Ti 3 C 2 T x /EP could provide excellent anti-corrosion protection. A new synergistic mechanism for improving antioxidant stability and anti-corrosion property of I-Ti 3 C 2 T x /EP coatings was developed and clarified based on the free radical scavenging ability of imidazolium ions and the chemical characteristics of MXene.

Polypyrrole (PPY) coating is promising for the anticorrosion of stainless steel (SS) bipolar plates (BPs) in virtue of its good conductivity and corrosion resistance . However, the poor adhesion and pore defects of pure PPY coating limit its application. In this work, a PPY/Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene composite coating was synthesized on 304SS BPs by one-step electrodeposition , which is a facile method to realize the polymerization of PPY and the doping of MXene at the same time. The PPY/MXene coating exhibits better long-term immersion stability in simulated proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) environment than pure PPY. The enhanced corrosion resistance is mainly benefited from the enhanced barrier effect, anodic protection effect and adhesion by the introduction of MXene. Meanwhile, the introduction of MXene significantly improves the conductivity of the coating and decreases the interfacial contact resistance at 1.4 MPa from 108.16 mΩ·cm 2 to 55.24 mΩ·cm 2 .

MXenes, two-dimensional (2D) transition-metal carbides and nitrides with high electrical conductivity, show outstanding potential for energy storage applications. However, the aggregation and restacking of 2D MXene nanosheets seriously decrease the performance of MXene-based electrodes. Instead of using high-cost artificial templates, herein, we select natural rubber (NR) latex-containing uniform sub-macroparticles as sacrificial templates and successfully construct three-dimensional interconnected porous MXene foam. This porous structure effectively prevents the restacking of MXene nanosheets and accelerates the transfer of electrolyte ions during charging and discharging, which significantly enhances capacitance and rate performance. By adjusting the loading of latex, we find that MXene foam (MXF)-70% provides both improved specific capacitance of 480 F g–1 at 2 mV s–1 and superior rate performance (42.1% residual at 1 V s–1) with excellent cycling stability of 97.1% capacitance retention after 10000 cycles at 50 mV s–1. Additionally, the low cost of natural rubber latex provides an alternate route to produce foam electrodes on a large scale for portable and integrated supercapacitors.

Phase change materials (PCMs) with superior solar-thermal harvest and efficient infrared stealth have crucial significance for modern military wearable thermal management but suffer from liquid leakage, poor motion detection, and intrinsic solid rigidity of conventional solid–liquid PCMs. In this work, highly stretchable phase change films (MPSPCFs) with sensitive motion detection, superior solar-thermal harvest, and efficient infrared stealth were designed using Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets, silicone rubber elastomers, n-eicosane, and poly(vinyl alcohol). The MPSPCF exhibited excellent energy storage density (107.1 J/g), long-term thermal reversibility (100 cycles), and superior flexibility. The lamination of MPSPCF with natural cotton fabrics enabled effective infrared stealth for thermal targets. Furthermore, due to the introduction of the MXene/PVA layer, the MPSPCF processed excellent solar-thermal conversion efficiency (η = 86.7%) and sensitive strain sensing (GF = 4.45). The MPSPCF-based thermoelectric power generation system was designed, which generated a maximum power of 91.95 mW. The MPSPCF could also be utilized as a strain sensor to detect human movement, including the bending motion of the finger, wrist, elbow, and knee. Combining these multiple functions, the MPSPCF developed in this work has great potential for personal thermal management applications in both military and civil fields, offering new ideas for the design of advanced PCM composites.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries are regarded as highly prospective energy storage devices. However, problems such as low sulfur utilization, poor cycle performance, and insufficient rate capability hinder the commercial development of Li-S batteries. Three-dimensional (3D) structure materials have been applied to modify the separator of Li-S batteries to suppress the diffusion of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and inhibit the transmembrane diffusion of Li + . A vanadium sulfide/titanium carbide (VS 4 /Ti 3 C 2 T x ) MXene composite with a 3D conductive network structure has been synthesized in situ by a simple hydrothermal reaction . VS 4 is uniformly loaded on the Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets through vanadium-carbon(V-C) bonds, which effectively inhibits the self-stacking of Ti 3 C 2 T x . The synergistic action of VS 4 and Ti 3 C 2 T x substantially reduces the shuttle of LiPSs, improves interfacial charge transfer, and boosts the kinetics of LiPSs conversion, consequently increasing the rate performance and cycle stability of the battery . The assembled battery has a specific discharge capacity of 657 mAh g -1 after 500 cycles at 1C, with a high capacity retention rate of 71%. The construction of VS 4 /Ti 3 C 2 T x composite with a 3D conductive network structure provides a feasible strategy for the application of polar semiconductor materials in Li-S batteries. It also provides an effective solution for the design of high-performance Li-S batteries.

The thriving 5G communication technology leads to the high demand for EMI shielding materials and thermal management materials. Particularly, portable thermal-sensitive electronic devices have more stringent requirements for thermal insulation performances. In most cases, ultrathin EMI shielding materials integrated with ultralow thermal conductivity are not easy to be achieved. To overcome this obstacle, dual protective porous composite films based on Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene and polyimide are fabricated by sacrificing polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) templates. By optimizing the contact thermal resistance and Kapitza resistance, the composite film presents superior thermal insulation performances with a thermal conductivity of 0.0136 W m −1 K −1 . Moreover, the hybrid porous film maintains superior EMI shielding effectiveness of 63.0 dB and high SSE/t of 31651.2 dB cm 2 g −1 . Nevertheless, the excellent active and passive heating ability based on Joule heating and photothermal conversion makes the composite film an ideal portable material for thermal management. This work sheds light on designing thermal management materials and EMI shielding materials for cutting-edge electronic devices.

Although skin-like sensors that can simultaneously detect various physical stimuli are of fair importance in cutting-edge human–machine interaction, robotic, and healthcare applications, they still face challenges in facile, scalable, and cost-effective production using conventional active materials. The emerging two-dimensional transition metal carbide, Ti3C2Tx MXene, integrated with favorable thermoelectric properties, metallic-like conductivity, and a hydrophilic surface, is promising for solving these problems. Herein, skin-like multifunctional sensors are designed to precisely detect and distinguish temperature and pressure stimuli without cross-talk by decorating elastic and porous substrates with MXene sheets. Because the combination of the thermoelectric and conductive MXene with the thermally insulating, elastic, and porous substrate integrates efficient Seebeck and piezoresistive effects, the resultant sensor exhibits not only an ultralow detection limit (0.05 K), high signal-to-noise ratio, and excellent cycling stability for temperature detection but also high sensitivity, fast response time, and outstanding durability for pressure detection. Based on the impressive dual-mode sensing properties and independent temperature and pressure detections, a multimode input terminal and an electronic skin are created, exhibiting great potential in robotic and human–machine interaction applications. This work provides a scalable fabrication of multifunctional tactile sensors for precisely detecting and distinguishing temperature and pressure stimuli.

The proliferation of electronic devices and wireless communication is leading to serious electromagnetic (EM) interference. In this work, Ti 3 C 2 /cement composites were developed as high efficiency EM functional materials by introducing exfoliated Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene with cement for green buildings with EM shielding function. In the composites, few-layered Ti 3 C 2 MXene were dispersed homogeneously throughout the cement matrix. The EM properties of the composites were studied as a function of the MXene content. With increasing MXene content, real and imaginary part of permittivity was significantly improved owing to the polarization and electrical conduction caused by the MXene phase. Composites with 15 wt.% MXene showed good EM absorbing properties with a maximum effective absorbing bandwidth of 2.67 GHz. Strong EM shielding can be achieved when MXene content increased to 25 wt.%. The EM shielding effectiveness of such composites was higher than 22.0 dB, and the dominating shielding mechanism was EM absorption. This work finds new materials for the development of advanced green buildings with EM shielding function.

Despite the existing advances of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene as supercapacitor electrode material, its capacitance can be further enhanced through the composite strategy. In this work, the nitrogen-doped superhydrophilic carbon cloth (ENCC) was firstly prepared by N-doping of carbon cloth (CC), and then Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanosheets were electrophoretically deposited to yield the binder-free Ti 3 C 2 T x(EPD) /ENCC as supercapacitor electrode material. As a result, the composite electrode exhibited an area-specific capacitance of 2080.1 mF·cm −2 at 1 mA·cm −2 current density. The analysis implied that the varying Ti valence states provided certain psedocapacitance to the capacitance of the as-prepared electrode, though the main contribution was still dominantly from the electric double layer capacitance (EDLC). Further, the assembled symmetric supercapacitor yielded a wide voltage window of 1.8 V, and a good cyclic stability with 91% capacitance retention after 10,000 charge/discharge cycles at 20 mA·cm −2 . Overall, the employed composite strategy enabled the good dispersion of the MXene flakes on the surface of the flexible substrate . Meanwhile, the large number of functional groups (-OH, -F, etc.) on the surface of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene interacted with the carbon layer through hydrogen bonding effects, which endows it as an ideal electrode for electrochemical capacitors .
