Effect of heat treatment on microstructure and oxidation resistance of SiO2-B4C-glass coating on alumina-carbon refractories

Weixiang Yang,Jincui Ren,Yanzi Tang,Yidan Wang,Yunuo Yang

To improve oxidation resistance of alumina-carbon refractories, SiO 2 -B 4 C-glass composite coating was prepared by slurry brushing method. The coated sample was heat treated in argon atmosphere to improve compactness and oxidation resistance of the coating. Effects of heat treatment temperature and time on microstructure and oxidation resistance of the coating were studied. Results showed that after heat treatment at 800 °C, borosilicate glass powder in the coating melted into glass phase, which could fill holes and cracks of the coating. As heat treatment temperature increased to 900 °C, viscosity of the glass phase decreased, resulting in the better self-healing ability and oxidation resistance of the coating. When heat treatment time increased to 1.5 h, some glass phases flowed away from the coating surface due to its large fluidity, so oxidation resistance of the coating decreased. When heat treatment temperature was too high (1000 °C), B 2 O 3 in the glass powder was eutectic with SiO 2 , more glass phase with larger fluidity generated, which leaded to that thickness and oxidation resistance of the coating both decreased. After heat treatment at 900 °C for 0.5 h, microstructure of the coating was smooth and compact, leading to its good oxidation resistance. Weight loss of the coated sample was only −1.041 % after oxidation at 800 °C for 80 h.

A Renewable and Ultrasensitive Electrochemiluminescence Immunosenor Based on Magnetic RuL@SiO2-Au~RuL-Ab2 Sandwich-Type Nano-Immunocomplexes

Ning Gan,Jianguo Hou,Futao Hu,Yuting Cao,Tianhua Li,Zhiyong Guo

An ultrasensitive and renewable electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensor was developed for the detection of tumor markers by combining a newly designed trace tag and streptavidin-coated magnetic particles (SCMPs). The trace tag (RuL@SiO2-Au∼RuL-Ab2) was prepared by loading Ru(bpy)32+(RuL)-conjuged secondary antibodies (RuL-Ab2) on RuL@SiO2(RuL-doped SiO2) doped Au (RuL@SiO2-Au). To fabricate the immunosensor, SCMPs were mixed with biotinylated AFP primary antibody (Biotin-Ab1), AFP, and RuL@SiO2-Au∼RuL-Ab2 complexes, then the resulting SCMP/Biotin-Ab1/AFP/RuL@SiO2-Au∼RuL-Ab2 (SBAR) sandwich-type immunocomplexes were absorbed on screen printed carbon electrode (SPCE) for detection. The immunocomplexes can be easily washed away from the surface of the SPCE when the magnetic field was removed, which made the immunosensor reusable. The present immunosensor showed a wide linear range of 0.05–100 ng mL−1for detecting AFP, with a low detection limit of 0.02 ng mL−1(defined as S/N = 3). The method takes advantage of three properties of the immunosensor: firstly, the RuL@SiO2-Au∼RuL-Ab2 composite exhibited dual amplification since SiO2could load large amount of reporter molecules (RuL) for signal amplification. Gold particles could provide a large active surface to load more reporter molecules (RuL-Ab2). Accordingly, through the ECL response of RuL and tripropylamine (TPA), a strong ECL signal was obtained and an amplification analysis of protein interaction was achieved. Secondly, the sensor is renewable because the sandwich-type immunocomplexes can be readily absorbed or removed on the SPCE’s surface in a magnetic field. Thirdly, the SCMP modified probes can perform the rapid separation and purification of signal antibodies in a magnetic field. Thus, the present immunosensor can simultaneously realize separation, enrichment and determination. It showed potential application for the detection of AFP in human sera.Keywords:[Ru(bpy)3]2+@SiO2-Au;alpha-fetoprotein;sandwich-type immunoreaction;screen printed carbon electrode;electrochemiluminescence

A Time-Interval Strategy to Prepare Porous SiO2 Spheres with Adjustable Core–Shell Ratio for Multiple Guest Loading

Jiaxin Du,Su Liu,Qiangyu Xue,Qiao Xu,Jinhan Li,Wenting Shen,Yinsong Si

Porous microspheres with desired pore size and distribution are in high demand for loading various guest materials, especially various pollutants that are several nanometers in size or stably suspended in liquid. Herein, multilevel porous SiO2 microspheres with arbitrarily adjustable core–shell ratios are prepared by solely regulating the time interval between the start of the hydrolysis reaction and the addition of organic solvent. The core–shell ratio of the SiO2 microspheres increases gradually with prolongation of the addition time interval; meanwhile, the specific surface area can be adjusted from 543.2 m2 g–1 to 992.9 m2 g–1, and the average pore diameter varies from 2.3 to 5.7 nm together with a high pore volume reaching 0.91 cm3 g–1. Moreover, the hierarchical core–shell SiO2 microspheres with an adjustable core–shell ratio, a large specific surface area, and a multilevel pore size could be obtained on a large scale. These SiO2 microspheres demonstrate excellent performance in coloading platinum nanoparticles and various dye molecules, suggesting their great potential in treating various pollutants in printing and dyeing wastewater.

Dual-pH/Magnetic-Field-Controlled Drug Delivery Systems Based on Fe3O4@SiO2-Incorporated Salecan Graft Copolymer Composite Hydrogels

Xinyu Hu,Yongmei Wang,Liangliang Zhang,Man Xu,Jianfa Zhang,Wei Dong

Graphical The power of attraction : Salecan-based composite hydrogels have magnetic-field-responsive properties due to the introduction of Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 nanoparticles into the hydrogel system. As a model anticancer drug, doxorubicin (DOX) was loaded into the composite hydrogels with high efficiency via strong electrostatic interactions between the amine group in DOX and carboxyl groups present in the hydrogels. These DOX-loaded salecan-g-PPH/Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 composite hydrogels show pH-responsive controlled drug release, and the liberated DOX can be effectively taken up by A549 cells. Salecan is a water-soluble extracellular β-glucan and has excellent physicochemical and biological properties for hydrogel preparation. In this study, a new pH/magnetic field dual-responsive hydrogel was prepared by the graft copolymerization of salecan with 4-pentenoic acid (PA) and N -hydroxyethylacrylamide (HEAA) in the presence of Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 nanoparticles for doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX) release. Integration of Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 nanoparticles in salecan-g-poly(PA-co-HEAA) copolymers afforded magnetic sensitivity to the original material. DOX-loaded hydrogels exhibited a clear capacity for pH/magnetic field dual-responsive controlled drug release. Lowering the pH to acidic conditions or introducing an external magnetic field caused an enhancement in DOX release. This salecan-g-poly(PA-co-HEAA)/Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 composite hydrogel is a promising drug carrier for magnetically targeted drug delivery with enhanced DOX cytotoxicity against A549 cells.

Simultaneous detection of two pesticide residues in tobacco leaves using SiO2@Ag-SERS substrate and portable Raman spectrometer

Zheng Feng,Peng Zhang,Xue Yang,Xiaowei Guo,Jiamin Yu,Liangguang Du,Jimin Shao,Hui Liang,Hong Jiang

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has great potential for rapid detection of trace levels of pesticides in food. Scientists have much interested in this analytical technique due to its sensitivity, rapid detection, simplicity, and low cost. However, most of researchers are only focusing on the detection of a single pesticide residue . In this paper, we firstly report the simultaneous detection of two pesticide residues in tobacco leaves by using composite SERS substrate of SiO 2 @Ag nanoparticles . The entire analysis time is less than 10 min. The detection results show satisfactory linearity in the range of 0.1–25 mg/kg and 1–25 mg/kg with the limit of detection of 0.1 mg/kg and 1 mg/kg for carbendazim and flumetralin in tobacco samples, respectively. The recovery rates of carbendazim and flumetralin in the tobacco leaves are 85.2 ∼ 112.12 % and 90.38 ∼ 113.42 %, respectively. The detection results also show good uniformity and reproducibility, with a relative standard deviation(RSD) value of 4.4 % between substrates. Our reported substrate combined with portable Raman spectrometer provides a powerful tool for simultaneous detection of multiple pesticide residues for food safety.

Maintaining solar cell efficiency realized by high-transparency dual-function SiO2 coating with self-cleaning and dust removal

Bao Guo,Hongjun Kang,Xinzhi Wang,Yitong Duan,Xiaotong Li,Baiqi Gao,Zhiqiang Wang,Yang Li,Songtao Lu,Xiaohong Wu

Addressing the issue of dust deposition on photovoltaic (PV) panels is of profound scientific significance and practical value for enhancing PV power generation. Transparent superhydrophobic coating is expected to be applied in the self-cleaning of PV panels. However, developing the transparent superhydrophobic dust removal coatings remains a challenge. Herein, we developed a highly transparent F-SiO 2 coating with dual self-cleaning and dust removal functions, composed of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and SiO 2 . The coating demonstrates a high transmittance of 97 %. After self-cleaning and dust removal tests, conversion efficiency of F-SiO 2 coated PV decreased by only 0.03 % and 0.01 %, respectively, demonstrating excellent self-cleaning and dust removal performance. Additionally, the F-SiO 2 exhibits high stability. Mechanism analysis of dust removal performance reveals that the decreased effective dielectric constant from the porous structure and the reduced actual contact area between the particles and the superhydrophobic surface, thereby effectively reduces the van der Waals force between dust and coating. This work provides a novel strategy to prepare self-cleaning and dust removal coatings on PV cover plate.

Preparation and performance study of SiO2 aerogel thermal insulation coating with nanoporous structure for wind turbine blade surface

Jianjun He,Caiyuan Huang,Min Pu,Zhonghu Shu,Zihao Duan,Zijing Zeng,Jianwei Li

To prepare a base layer of thermal insulation for the surface of wind turbine blades, we utilized SiO2 aerogel material with a nanoporous structure as the thermal insulation layer of an inorganic composite photothermal de-icing coating. We further investigated the influence of raw material ratio and process on the thermal insulation layer’s performance. By adjusting the process parameters, the microstructure and characteristics of the SiO2 aerogel thermal insulation coating were controlled. Microstructure scanning and EDS analysis were employed to assess the results. The results of the experiment suggest that, as opposed to brush coating, atomized spraying is a better technique for creating SiO2 aerogel thermal insulation coating. The coating possesses excellent mechanical stability and applicability, maintaining a coating wear rate within 5% after 20 wear cycles under a load of 1734 N/m2, and the coating achieves the highest class 0 surface adhesion to the substrate surface. The coating exhibits exceptional heat insulation performance, reaching a temperature of 32.7 °C after five spraying cycles, which is 20.0 ∼ 29.4 °C higher than the surface without producing a complete heat insulation layer. The SiO2 aerogel aqueous slurry has a viscosity of 31.3 ∼ 36.9 mPa∙s, which is capable of forming a uniform membrane surface when sprayed at a 60° angle at 0.95 MPa pressure. Consequently, this paper’s design of photothermal thermal insulation offers strong anti-abrasion and excellent thermal insulation, presenting a new avenue for scientific investigation into coating photothermal de-icing.

Preparation and properties of bio-based PA56/SiO2–NH2 composite nanofiber membranes for high efficiency oil-water separation

Zhuoqun Li,Guangshun Dong,Jian Pan,Xinyu Chen,Xinyu Lou,Lilan Huang,Kai Guo

With the continuous development of environmental protection and resource recycling demands, the development of bio-based separation membrane materials has increasingly attracted attention. Bio-based polyamide 56 (PA56), exhibiting excellent hydrophilicity, spinnability, and mechanical properties, is expected to complement and replace traditional separation membrane materials. In this study, the electrospinning preparation and structural control of PA56 nanofiber membranes were achieved through the optimization of PA56 content and mixed solvent ratios. The study found that when the PA56 content was 16 wt% and the formic acid to acetone ratio in the mixed solvent was 8:2, the nanofiber diameter distribution was the most uniform. Building on this, amino-functionalized modified silica (SiO 2 –NH 2 ) nanoparticles were introduced to prepare PA56/SiO 2 –NH 2 composite nanofiber membranes featuring a cobweb-like nanofiber network and micro-nodule structure. The effects of the addition of SiO 2 –NH 2 nanoparticles on the morphology, structure, and properties of the fiber membranes were studied. The results indicate that the control of the mixed solvent ratio and the addition of SiO 2 –NH 2 nanoparticles led to the formation of a cobweb-like nanofiber network and micro-nano nodular structure on the nanofiber surface, enhancing the hydrophilicity of PA56 nanofiber membranes. The M − 3 membrane with a nanoparticle addition amount of 0.8 wt% exhibited high hydrophilicity and underwater superoleophobic properties, achieving efficient separation of stable oil-in-water emulsions with a separation efficiency of 99.8 %. This work provides a new bio-based membrane material and its preparation method for treating oily wastewater using the membrane separation method.

One-pot synthesis of 1,4-butanediol via the deep hydrogenation of maleic anhydride over Cu–xMo/SiO2 catalysts

Kai Cui,Jiaming Yang,Yuli Jing,Junwen Chen,Chen Zhao,Peng Wu,Xiaohong Li

Sustainability issues have led to a gradual market expansion for the 1,4-butanediol (BDO) monomer of the biodegradable plastics to replace conventional plastics. Maleic anhydride (MA) can be derived from the oxidation of bio-based furfural or fructose. Although the hydrogenation of MA can produce a series of products, including succinic anhydride (SA), γ-butyrolactone (GBL), BDO and tetrahydrofuran (THF), the one-pot deep hydrogenation of MA to BDO or THF under mild conditions has been rarely reported in the literature until now. Herein, we report the production of BDO from the one-pot deep hydrogenation of MA over a Cu–0.03Mo/SiO2 catalyst, achieving 100% MA conversion and 88.3% BDO yield. The Cu–0.03Mo/SiO2 catalyst also showed good long-term stability without obvious loss in activity or BDO selectivity during a 160 h time-on-stream test. Doping Mo to Cu/SiO2 catalysts in an optimal amount adjusted the distribution of Cu0/Cu+ species and modulated the interaction of Cu–SiO2 and surface acidity, so that the activation of hydrogen, MA and relevant intermediates can become balanced, in addition to the restriction of side-reactions. This study provides potential for the green synthesis of BDO with non-precious Cu-based catalysts.

PEG-assisted synthesis of highly dispersed Cs/Zr-SiO2 catalyst for aldol condensation of methyl acetate with formaldehyde

Qi Li,Senlin Deng,Junyang Liu,Tingting Yan,Jinguo Hao,Gang Wang,Guoliang Zhang,Jie Li,Chunshan Li

The dispersion of active sites plays an imperative role in the promotion of catalytic performance on methyl acrylate synthesis via direct vaporous aldol condensation. Herein, a novel PEG-assisted impregnation method was proposed to synthesize Cs/Zr-SiO 2 catalyst with high dispersion of acid and base sites. A series of characterization techniques including NMR, TEM, physical N 2 adsorption isotherms, XRD, XPS, NH 3 -/CO 2 -TPD, and Py-IR were used to investigate the physico-chemical properties of these prepared catalyst series. The introduction of PEG improved the specific surface area, dispersion of active sites, and density of acid and base sites, resulting in superior catalytic performance of Cs/PEG@Zr-SiO 2 by comparison with that of Cs/SiO 2 and Cs/Zr-SiO 2 . The kinetic experiments revealed that the activation energy of aldol condensation was 80.8 kJ/mol over the Cs/PEG@Zr-SiO 2 catalyst. The deactivation behavior derived from carbon deposition was discovered, and the spent catalyst could be regenerated by simple thermal treatment.

Molecular imprinting-based Ru@SiO2-embedded covalent organic frameworks composite for electrochemiluminescence detection of cyanidin-3-O-glucoside

Chen Cui,Yunfeng Fan,Yaxuan Chen,Renlong Wei,Jie Lv,Meng Yan,Dechen Jiang,Zhimin Liu

Cyanidin-3- O -glucoside (C3G), a natural antioxidant, plays multiple physiological or pathological roles in maintaining human health; thereby, designing advanced sensors to achieve specific recognition and high-sensitivity detection of C3G is significant. Herein, an imprinted-type electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensing platform was developed using core-shell Ru@SiO 2 -CMIPs, which were prepared by covalent organic framework (COF)-based molecularly imprinted polymers (CMIPs) embedded in luminescent Ru@SiO 2 cores. The C3G-imprinted COF shell not only helps generate a steady-enhanced ECL signal, but also enables specific recognition of C3G. When C3G is bound to Ru@SiO 2 -CMIPs with abundant imprinted cavities, resonance energy transfer (RET) behavior is triggered, resulting in a quenched ECL response. The constructed Ru@SiO 2 -CMIPs nanoprobes exhibit ultra-high sensitivity, absolute specificity, and an ultra-low detection limit (0.15 pg mL −1 ) for analyzing C3G in food matrices. This study provides a means to construct an efficient and reliable molecular imprinting-based ECL sensor for food analysis.

Fabrication of core-shell MIL-125-NH2@ZIF-67/SiO2 composites with enhanced catalytic activity for nitroaromatic reduction

Yisha Zheng,Shuoling Lei,Wenjie Guo,Wenlong Xiang,Yanmei Chen,Yanhui Zhang

The high toxicity and persistence of nitroaromatic pollutants pose a serious threat to aquatic ecosystems. In this study, inert SiO 2 was employed as an "inactive enhancer" to construct core-shell MIL-125-NH 2 @ZIF-67/SiO 2 (M@Z/SiO 2 ) heterogeneous MOF catalysts via an epitaxial-wet impregnation method, enabling the efficient reduction of p -nitrophenol ( p -NP) under ambient temperature and pressure. Although SiO 2 itself lacks catalytic activity, the micro-mesoporous network it forms effectively disperses Co active sites and prevents their aggregation. The conversion rate of p -NP increased from 92.5% to 98.4% within 6   min and retained 98% activity after three consecutive cycles. Moreover, the catalyst exhibited excellent stability across a wide pH range (3-11) and in various anionic environments. Mechanistic studies revealed that the interfacial electron transfer between ZIF-67 and MIL-125-NH 2 significantly reduces the activation energy barrier of NaBH 4 . Additionally, the incorporation of SiO 2 not only enhances the mechanical stability of the composite but also optimizes pore structure and substrate mass transfer by modulating surface hydrophilicity. This work provides valuable insights for the precise design of MOF-on-MOF heterostructures and the synergistic engineering of interfacial and surface properties in environmental catalytic materials.
