Recently, heterogeneous catalysts prepared by two phase metals were commonly used to activate PMS degradation. However, the synergistic effects of Zn and other metals on the activation of PMS were infrequently studied. In this work, novel PVDF@TA-ZIF-67/8 nanofibers were prepared successfully by first mineralization and then in-situ growth. The prepared PTZ70 exhibited an evidently higher photocatalytic activity than PVDF, PTC, PTZ0, PTZ10 and PTZ100 to degradation OFX (96.5 %). The effects of the mass ratio of Co and Zn, PMS dosage, coexisting ions and organic solvents on the degradation of OFX were concretely investigated. The radical trapping experiment and mechanism analysis showed that the synergistic effect of Co and Zn played a key role in PMS activation, accelerating the generation of 1 O 2 and •O 2 – . Combining the discussion of influencing factors and LC-MS analysis, four OFX degradation pathways were illustrated. In particular, we observed that the degradation OFX of PTZ70 was only slightly reduced by 5.6 % after five cycling, indicating the reusability, good stability and high environmental suitability of PTZ70 performance . This study offers a novel path for the design of catalytic membranes with controllable heterogeneous metal doping.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) have been widely found in water bodies and may generate negative impacts on the ecosystem. Eectrocoagulation (EC) with a zinc anode is an effective technology to remove PFASs but the dominating interaction forces between zinc flocs and PFASs are still not well elucidated. In this study, we used hexafluoropropylene oxide trimer acid (HFPO-TA), a new perfluorooctanoic acid substitute, as a model to investigate the influence of EC operational parameters on its removal efficiency, including the current density, the pH value, and the electrolyte type. 99 % removal of 40 μM HFPO-TA were achieved in 3-h at optimal conditions. The extended Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (XDLVO) theory was innovatively applied to reveal the interfacial free energies between zinc flocs and HFPO-TA and other PFASs. It was found that the hydrophobic force can significantly promote the adsorption of HFPO-TA on the surface of zinc flocs and a strong correlation may exist between the calculated total interfacial free energies and the pseudo-first-order kinetic constants of removing PFASs. FT-IR spectra indicated the specific interactions occurring between carboxylate head groups and zinc flocs. These findings advance the mechanistic understanding of PFASs removal by metal flocs and could support the development of electrocoagulation for removing PFASs.

The corrosion and wear of metals have long been persistent challenges for researchers and engineers. This work aims to develop a coating with long-term corrosion resistance, while addressing the poor wear resistance of epoxy coatings. 2D Siloxene (S) nanosheets were prepared using the topochemical method. Using S nanosheets as carriers, a core-shell structure with MoS₂ encapsulating S nanosheets was constructed via a hydrothermal method, endowing the coating with high barrier properties and wear resistance. To further strengthen the long-term corrosion resistance of the coating and improve the compatibility between the core-shell structure and EP resin, a layer of tannic acid was uniformly loaded onto the surface of the core-shell structure through a one-pot coprecipitation method. A systematic investigation was conducted on the corrosion and wear resistance of the coating. The results reveal that the composite coating, exhibiting outstanding corrosion resistance, also shows remarkable wear resistance. The |Z| 0.01 Hz of the composite coating increased from 8.4 × 10⁸ Ω•cm² to 9.62 × 10 9 Ω•cm 2 , with the wear rate dropping by 72.5 %. This investigation yields valuable guidance for the construction of coatings with long-term corrosion resistance, simultaneously providing a new perspective on the application of S nanosheets.

Bacterial infections pose a significant threat to the healing of human skin wounds, as the reactive oxygen species (ROS) they produce can significantly delay the wound healing process, ultimately leading to the formation of chronic wounds and even endangering human life. Therefore, this study successfully constructed a dynamically reversible hydrogel network through dual crosslinking of Schiff base bonds and hydrogen bonds using oxidized hyaluronic acid (OHA), carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS), and tannic acid (TA). By loading Cu@PDA, the OCTC2 hydrogel wound dressing was prepared, exhibiting synergistic antibacterial and antioxidant properties through TA/Cu 2+ release and NIR-II photothermal effects. We used FTIR, XRD, SEM, and TEM to thoroughly analyse the specific composition and morphology of the Cu@PDA and hydrogel. We measured the injectability, adhesion, NIR-II photothermal, and antibacterial properties of each group of hydrogels. The results showed that TA and Cu@PDA endowed the hydrogel with excellent antioxidant properties, enabling effective scavenging of various free radicals. Additionally, OCTC2, which possesses sustained-release TA/Cu 2+ capability, achieves antibacterial rates of over 94 % against S. aureus and E. coli . Under the combined effect of NIR-II photothermal therapy, it can achieve highly efficient bacterial killing (99.8 %), effectively promoting the healing of bacterial infection wounds. OCTC2 holds promise as a potential ideal hydrogel dressing for treating bacterial-infected wounds.

Strong winds can make a bridge's cable-stayed cables produce violent vibrations, leading to fatigue of the cable-stayed cables and damaging the cable-stayed bridge's structure. Accurately and effectively obtaining data on the wind loads applied to the cable-stayed cables is important for assessing the cable-stayed cables' health. The existing sensing elements for detection include diffusion silicon piezoresistive sensor, strain gauge, and other rigid sensors. However, most of them present such disadvantages as rigidity, difficult to fit the curved surface, high cost and low sensitivity. And it cannot be directly installed on the surface of the cable. In this paper, a conductive hydrogel flexible pressure sensor based on TA/CB@PDMS was developed, using carbon black (CB) as the main conductive medium, with good electrical conductivity, high sensitivity (0.65 kPa−1) and excellent tensile properties (210% tensile breakage). Meanwhile, a salt permeation method (Soak the sensor in LiBr solution) was used to effectively inhibit the sensor's water from being evaporated and frozen. Its substrate incorporates tannic acid to increase the sensor's adhesion so that it adheres well to the diagonal cable's surface. In this paper, the wind speed variation around the diagonal cable and the force distribution on the surface with considering the fluid-structure coupling effect are analyzed by ANSYS WORKBECH finite element simulation. Wind tunnel experiments simulate the sensor's force response when the inclined cable is subjected to different wind speeds, and the detection accuracy reaches 96.17%. The results show the sensor developed in this paper can realize accurate wind pressure detection of the inclined cable. This study provides a new method for wind pressure detection and health inspection of diagonal cables.

Although Ta 4 HfC 5 ceramic has a highest melting point reported, it ablates rapidly in oxidative environment because Ta 2 O 5 has a low melting point of 1872 °C. In this work, ultrafine Ta-Hf-C solid-solution powders (49∼70 nm) with tunable Ta/Hf ratio were synthesized via a solvothermal route combined with carbothermal reduction using a liquid-phase precursor. Ta-Hf-C solid-solution bulks with relative densities of 98–99% were subsequently obtained by an ultra-fast pressure sintering technique. The effects of Ta/Hf ratio on densification behavior, mechanical properties, and oxidation–ablation resistance were systematically evaluated. Among all compositions, the 1TaC-4HfC ceramic exhibited the lowest mass and linear ablation rates of 0.422 mg/s and 14.237 μm/s after 120 s exposure to laser irradiation at a heat flux of 30 MW/m 2 , with a surface temperature up to 3800 °C. During ablation, a dense protective oxide layer formed through the reaction between HfO 2 and Ta 2 O 5 , generating Hf 6 Ta 2 O 17 coatings on the HfO 2 framework, while molten Ta 2 O 5 acted as a liquid bonding phase to wet and integrate the oxide phases with the residual carbide skeleton. This synergistic HfO 2 /Hf 6 Ta 2 O 17 /Ta 2 O 5 composite structure effectively suppressed oxygen permeation and enhanced high-temperature stability above 3000 °C.

Rapid, room-temperature, and scalable fabrication of the membrane is achieved. • The membrane exhibits excellent crude-oil antifouling ability and underwater superoleophobicity. • The membrane shows high permeation flux and excellent separation efficiency for various oil-in-water emulsions, including crude oil emulsion. • The emulsion permeation flux of the membrane almost maintains zero attenuation during long-term operation for n-hexane emulsion (3 h) and even crude oil emulsion (1 h). • The membrane remains stable after prolonged immersion in acidic, alkaline, and saline solutions. Despite the critical importance of efficient oily wastewater separation, practical implementation remains severely constrained by severe fouling, low membrane flux, and challenges in scalable production. Consequently, the rapid and scalable fabrication of superhydrophilic membranes with superior antifouling performance has become an urgent priority for treating large quantities of oily wastewater. Herein, we employed a polyphenol-metal dual autocatalytic system to rapidly and efficiently fabricate a high-throughput, anti-fouling, and scalable PDMAPAA gel @TA-APTES@PVDF hydrogel composite membrane under mild conditions. Endowed with the TA-APTES micro-nano structure and the PDMAPAA hydrogel layer, the membrane achieves high water flux (over 40000 L∙m −2 ∙h −1 ∙bar −1 ), excellent emulsion flux (over 5500 L∙m −2 ∙h −1 ∙bar −1 ) and exceptional oil-water separation efficiency (over 99.50%). The emulsion flux shows almost maintains zero attenuation during long-term operation for the n-hexane emulsion (3 h) and even the crude oil emulsion (1 h). The membrane also has excellent underwater anti-adhesion properties for crude oil. Crude oil adhered to the membrane surface can be readily removed by simple water immersion. What’s more, the membrane exhibits exceptional chemical stability, conferring robust resistance to acidic, alkaline, and saline environments. The intricate contaminants in wastewater, such as organic dyes, pathogenic bacteria, and immiscible oils, have led to significant environmental challenges. These pollutants are detrimental to both ecological systems and human well-being and cannot be effectively removed through wastewater purification using a single material or process. To address this issue, a multifunctional three-dimensional porous polyurethane (PU) sponge was designed. In this research, surface coating technology was applied to modify PU sponge through a facile impregnation method with the addition of a mixed solution containing tannic acid (TA) and aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES). Owing to the presence of secondary active reaction sites in the TA–APTES coating, TA–APTES@PU could function as a reactive substrate, facilitating subsequent modifications. TA–APTES@PU was first directly immersed in silver ammonium solution for the reduction of silver ions. Ag nanoparticles can be uniformly distributed and immobilized in situ on TA–APTES@PU, which was accomplished by the residual hydroxyl groups in the TA–APTES coating. The resultant Ag@TA–APTES@PU showed superior catalytic activities in the reduction of organic dye contaminants in aqueous solutions, achieving complete degradation of RhB within 4 minutes, with an apparent rate constant (kapp) of 1.1829 min−1. Ag@TA–APTES@PU also showed excellent antibacterial activities against both gram-positive and gram-negative pathogenic bacteria. TA–APTES@PU was subsequently modified with a low-surface-energy chemical octadecylamine (ODA), converting the TA–APTES coating directly into a superhydrophobic coating (ODA@TA–APTES@PU), which was suitable for treating oily wastewater. Furthermore, Ag@TA–APTES@PU and ODA@TA–APTES@PU also exhibited remarkable recyclability in the context of dye reduction and oil–water separation, respectively. The results indicated that the TA–APTES coating could serve as an excellent platform for the fabrication of multifunctional materials with desirable properties, making it a highly potential option for the treatment of water contaminated by dyes, bacteria, and oils.

Membrane fouling, especially the composite pollution caused by inorganic scaling and biological fouling, is a key challenge in the treatment of underground karst water with high salinity and high hardness. This study reports a polyethersulfone (PES) ultrafiltration (UF) membrane modified by molybdenum disulfide-tannic acid@copper ions (MoS2-TA@Cu2+) bionanomaterial. By blending MoS2-TA@Cu2+ nanoparticles into the PES matrix, the membrane's structure and comprehensive properties were systematically controlled. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and static water contact angle measurements were employed to characterize the morphology and surface properties of the membranes. Characterization analysis confirmed that the hydrophilicity of the modified membrane was enhanced (the water contact angle [WCA] was reduced from 69° to 56°), and it showed high antibacterial properties (the antibacterial rate against Escherichia coli [E. coli] reached 95%). The core contribution of this study is to systematically elucidate the tunable trade-off mechanism between key membrane properties dominated by nanoparticle loading. Specifically, a loading capacity of 10 g/m2 achieved optimal anti-fouling stability, with a flux recovery rate (FRR) as high as 81.5% (40.5% higher than that of the original membrane). In contrast, a loading capacity of 15 g/m2 showed the superior permeation and separation performance, with a turbidity removal rate of 92.9% in actual karst water and a silt density index (SDI) reduction value of 5.3, fully meeting the stringent requirements of reverse osmosis pretreatment. Both static and dynamic anti-fouling experiments confirmed its excellent performance, with the CaCO3 scaling amount reduced by up to 65.2%. This study provides an effective strategy for the development of multifunctional UF membranes that can cope with complex water quality challenges by revealing the inherent trade-off between separation efficiency and anti-fouling stability. This paper provides the key theoretical basis and practical guidance for the precise design of high-performance multifunctional membranes.

Addition of Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets into epoxy matrix is crucial for improving the mechanical and anti-corrosion properties, depending on their unique structures and properties. However, randomly-arranged Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets failed to meet higher corrosion protection requirements especially under alternating hydrostatic pressure (AHP) environment. Herein, inspired by the unique structure of mille crepe cake, the tannic acid (TA)-functionalized Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets were distributed parallelly in the epoxy matrix using a simple blade-coating method to form layer-by-layer (LBL) coating. Particularly, epoxy matrix incorporated with TA@Ti 3 C 2 T x exhibited a nearly perfect internal parallel arrangement structure due to shear force during blade-coating, excellent compatibility, and higher binding force. As being immersed 60 days at 1 atm and 240 h at 20 MPa AHP in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution, the worst frequency impedance values was enhanced by 1–3 orders of magnitude for the parallel alignment in comparison to the randomly-arranged TA@Ti 3 C 2 T x composite coating. The results were mainly due to the fact that parallelly-arranged TA@Ti 3 C 2 T x could maximize tortuosity and got the utmost out of the barrier properties of composite coating. Moreover, electrochemical characterization of defects and Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations results proved that TA could react with Q235 steel in three ways to form ferric-tannates, which could further prevent the corrosion of steel. Prospectively, the parallelly alignment of TA@Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets in epoxy would greatly increase the corrosion resistance of composite coating, especially suitable for AHP environment.

Tough, self-adhesive and conductive hydrogels have recently attracted considerable interest due to their promising applications in electronic skins, wearable devices and flexible sensors. In this work, we designed a mussel-inspired nanocomposite hydrogel derived from water-soluble tannic acid/polyaniline coated cellulose nanocrystals (TA/PANI@CNCs) and various functional acrylic monomers . The incorporated TA/PANI@CNCs not only endowed the nanocomposite hydrogels with enhanced electrical conductive network and mechanical performance, but also played an important role in repeatable and durable adhesiveness to human skin without additional fixation. By taking the advantage of double networks based on various supramolecular interactions and dynamic borate ester bonds , the hydrogels exhibited a dramatic breaking strain of 974%, fracture stress of 759 kPa and rapid self-healing ability at room temperature without external stimuli. In addition, the as-prepared nanocomposite hydrogels had great strain sensitivity and excellent electrical conductivity , which can be employed as flexible strain sensors for tracking human body motion with a broad range of strain or directly assembled on other materials surfaces as electrical circuits. Compared with previous conductive hydrogels, this work will provide a novel pathway to fabricate nanocomposite hydrogels with self-healing, self-adhesive, strain sensitive and robust mechanical properties for potential applications in wearable strain sensors, flexible electrical interconnection and human motion monitoring.

In previous works, it was found hard to synthesize “phase pure” ζ-Ta 4 C 3-z at relatively low temperatures even by prolonged heating, though ζ-Ta 4 C 3-z was believed stable till decomposition at ~2130°C. When the samples were subjected to TEM , vast richness of locally disordered structures in close relation with stacking of the close-pacted Ta-atom planes was observed. Although kinetic factors including diffusion of C atoms/vacancies and re-stacking of the Ta-atom planes explain the densely disordered structures, the richness of local disorders is a scenario that shows cohabitant of the cubic, rhombohedral, and hexagonal structures in a single grain, i.e. formation of a “hybrid grain” consisted of the three symmetries, indicating a transitional or intermediate stage before complete formation of the final phase of rhombohedral ζ-Ta 4 C 3-z . This time tantalum carbide ceramics TaC x with C:Ta atomic ratios x = 0.66 and 0.7 were prepared by reaction hot pressing of TaC and Ta powder mixtures. 5–30 mol% Cu/Ag additives and heat treatments were used to reproduce “hybrid grains” to facilitate further TEM and HRTEM observations on the disordered hybrid grains to argue for the transitional/intermediate stage. The cohabitant cubic, rhombohedral, and hexagonal structures in single grains may also help explain the difficulty in identification of the various phases by XRD in the transitional/intermediate stage of ζ-Ta 4 C 3-z reaction. Microstructural evolution and fracture toughness of the composites were also investigated.
