Detection and Identification of Pesticides in Fruits Coupling to an Au–Au Nanorod Array SERS Substrate and RF-1D-CNN Model Analysis

Pengxing Sha,Chushu Zhu,Tianran Wang,Peitao Dong,Xuezhong Wu

In this research, a method was developed for fabricating Au–Au nanorod array substrates through the deposition of large-area Au nanostructures on an Au nanorod array using a galvanic cell reaction. The incorporation of a granular structure enhanced both the number and intensity of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) hot spots on the substrate, thereby elevating the SERS performance beyond that of substrates composed solely of an Au nanorod. Calculations using the finite difference time domain method confirmed the generation of a strong electromagnetic field around the nanoparticles. Motivated by the electromotive force, Au ions in the chloroauric acid solution were reduced to form nanostructures on the nanorod array. The size and distribution density of these granular nanostructures could be modulated by varying the reaction time and the concentration of chloroauric acid. The resulting Au–Au nanorod array substrate exhibited an active, uniform, and reproducible SERS effect. With 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene as the probe molecule, the detection sensitivity of the Au–Au nanorod array substrate was enhanced to 10−11M, improving by five orders of magnitude over the substrate consisting only of an Au nanorod array. For a practical application, this substrate was utilized for the detection of pesticides, including thiram, thiabendazole, carbendazim, and phosmet, within the concentration range of 10−4to 5 × 10−7M. An analytical model combining a random forest and a one-dimensional convolutional neural network, referring to the important variable-one-dimensional convolutional neural network model, was developed for the precise identification of thiram. This approach demonstrated significant potential for biochemical sensing and rapid on-site identification.

A colorimetric/SERS dual-mode sensor based on ferric ion-dopamine@Au–Ag-Au Janus NPs for acrylamide determination in baked goods

Wang Yutong,Liu Yizhi,Liang Xiao,Liu Zhiyuan,Yang Yaling

This study successfully developed a colorimetric/SERS dual-mode sensor for determining acrylamide in baked goods based on the excellent peroxidase-like activity and Raman activity of Fe-PHS@Au–Ag-Au Janus NPs. In colorimetric mode, the thiol-ene Michael addition between acrylamide (AA) and glutathione (GSH) efficiently eliminates GSH-induced peroxidase-like activity inhibition. The peroxidase-like activity of Fe-PHS@Au–Ag-Au Janus NPs gradually recovered, and the blue color of the solution gradually deepened with the increase in AA dosage. In surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), Apt-Fe-PHS@Au–Ag-Au Janus NPs can selectively capture AA and bind specifically, leading to the dissociation of Apt and Fe-PHS@Au–Ag-Au Janus NPs. The Raman activity of Apt-Fe-PHS@Au–Ag-Au Janus NPs decreases due to the dissociation of Apt. The dual-mode sensor was utilized for the determination of acrylamide in the concentrations range from 0.05 to 20 µg·L −1 with detection limits of 0.06 µg·L −1 (SERS) and 0.01 µg·L −1 (colorimetric). The recovery in baked samples was between 91.0 and 108.0%. Graphical

Amino Acid Detection with Bare Eyes Based on Two Different Concentrations of Iodides as Sensor Receptors

Li Li,Gu Xuewei,Wang Junli,Chen Zhengbo

Sulfur containing amino acids play an important role in human physiology, and different levels of amino acids in organisms can cause serious health problems. Herein, we have developed a core-shell Cu@Au nanoparticles (Cu@AuNPs)-based powerful colorimetric sensing array for differentiation of containing amino acid. The sensors consist of two different concentrations of iodides (1.5 μM KI and 0.5 μM NaI) as sensor receptors and Cu@AuNPs as signal readout. With the amino acids, iodide can easily get access to the Cu@AuNP surface, inducing a visual color variation (gray→red) of the Cu@AuNP solution by means of changing the Cu@AuNP clusters to separated, spherical-like, and larger ones. While without the target amino acids, various amino acids show differential binding interactions toward Cu@AuNPs via gold-sulfur bonds. So, the transformation is blocked to diverse degrees due to a competition adsorption between amino acids and iodides to the Cu@AuNPs. Consequently, varying levels of Cu@AuNP transformation are relevant with different amino acids and iodides, generating distinct colorimetric reaction modes, which are characteristic for each amino acid and can be quantitatively detected by linear discriminant analysis (LDA). Four target amino acids have been successfully identified at the 20 nM level. Additionally, the sensing system shows outstanding potential for analysis of complex samples.

Direct conversion of C6 sugars to methyl glycerate and glycolate in methanol

Lei Feng,Gang Li,Yueer Yan,Wenrong Hou,Yahong Zhang,Yi Tang

The present work deals with the one-pot conversion of C6 sugars to methyl glycerate and glycolate via a cascade of retro-aldol condensation and oxidation processes catalyzed by using MoO3 as the Lewis acid catalyst and Au/TiO2 as the oxidation catalyst in methanol. Methyl glycerate (MGLY) is the product of C6 ketose (fructose), while methyl glycolate (MG) is produced from C6 aldose (mannose, glucose). It is found that a good one-pot match between two reactive processes is the key to the production of MGLY and MG with high yield (27.6% MGLY and 39.2% MG). A separated retro-aldol condensation and oxidation process greatly decreases their yields, and even no MGLY can be obtained in this separated process. We attribute this to high instability of glyceraldehyde/glycolaldehyde and their different reaction pathways which mainly depend on whether acetalization of retro-aldol products (glyceraldehyde and glycolaldehyde) occurs with methanol or not. This result opens a new prospect on the accumulation of C3 products other than lactate from biomass-derived carbohydrates.

Cu2O-based binary and ternary photocatalysts for the degradation of organic dyes under visible light

Weijie Lei,Hao Wang,Xiaojing Zhang,Zhimao Yang,Chuncai Kong

As competitive photocatalysts , Cu 2 O nanoparticles meet with severe photogenerated carries recombination and insufficient light absorption, leading to the poor photocatalytic performance. Herein, the truncated Cu 2 O-Au (CA) binary and Cu 2 O-Au-TiO 2 (CAT) ternary octahedra with Au nanoparticles (Au NPs), preferentially supported on the (110) and (100) planes of Cu 2 O, are synthesized for efficient photocatalytic degradation reactions. The photodegradation rates of MO of CA1 (Cu 2 O-Au containing 1 wt % Au) and CAT are as high as 95.61% and 96.5% under 60 min of visible light irradiation, respectively. On the one hand, the synergistic function of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of Au NPs and Schottky barrier accelerate the separation and transfer of photogenerated carriers. On the other hand, a Z-scheme electron transfer system is constructed in CAT to promote the photodegradation performance. According to the finite-difference-time-domain (FDTD) simulation result, there is a strong electric field enhancement at the contact sites between Au, Cu 2 O and TiO 2 , which accelerates the electron transfer to a large extent and separates the electron-hole pairs. Therefore, this work may provide an approach for the synthesis and applications of multiple heterostructure catalyst.

Highly Sensitive Colorimetric/Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy Immunoassay Relying on a Metallic Core–Shell Au/Au Nanostar with Clenbuterol as a Target Analyte

Lihong Su,Huilan Hu,Yanli Tian,Conghui Jia,Lulu Wang,Han Zhang,Jianlong Wang,Daohong Zhang

Lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) has emerged as an effective technique in the field of food safety and environmental monitoring. However, sensitive and quantitative detection is still challenging for LFIAs in complex environments. In this work, a dual-model colorimetric/SERS lateral flow immunoassay for ultrasensitive determination of clenbuterol was constructed based on a metallic core–shell Au/Au nanostar acting as a multifunction tag. Raman reporter molecules are located between the core (AuNP) and shell (Au nanostar) to form a sandwich structure, which contributes to eliminate the environmental interference and improve the detection stability. In addition, the Au/Au nanostar provides a much higher Raman enhancement due to the presence of sharp tips and larger surface roughness in comparison with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Thus, on the basis of the antibody–antigen interaction, the dual-model immunoassay can produce strong colorimetric and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) signals for highly sensitive detection of the target analyte, clenbuterol. Under optimal conditions, clenbuterol could be detected by the colorimetric model with a visual detection limit of 5 ng/mL. Meanwhile, the SERS signal of the Au/Au nanostar was accumulated on the test line for the SERS model detection with a quantitative detection limit as low as 0.05 ng/mL, which is at least 200-fold lower than that of the traditional AuNPs-based immunoassay. Furthermore, recovery rates of the proposed method in food samples were 86–110%. This dual-model immunoassay provides an effective tool for antibiotic residues analysis and demonstrates a broad potential for future applications in food safety monitoring.

Probing the Synergistic Effects of Au, Pd and CeO2 Facilitating the Au-Pd/CeO2-Catalyzed Selective Oxidation of 1,2-Propanediol to Lactic Acid

Liu Yubing,Tang Jie,Cai Chenyu,Gu Runjing,Yang Xinyu,Yue Liang,Bai Yiqiang,Zhang Fengxiao,Liang Jing,Xu Naizhang,Fan Yining

CeO 2 -supported Au and Pd nanocatalyst (Au-Pd/CeO 2 ) was developed and used in the oxidation of 1,2-propanediol (1,2-PDO). Notably, by tuning catalyst composition and reaction conditions, the product selectivity could be well controlled to produce lactic acid (LA) majorly, which was one of the top twelve bio-based platform molecules with very broad application scopes. The catalyst with Pd/(Au + Pd) molar ratio at 0.25 should be the preferable catalyst was screened out to be preferable, affording LA in 92.0% selectivity, while 88.0% of 1,2-PDO was converted under mild reaction conditions (0.3 MPa of O 2 at 80 °C for 3 h). The superior catalytic activities of Au-Pd/CeO 2 probably attributed to the strong interactions between Au and Pd nano particles (NPs), as being reflected by High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) characterizations. Moreover, strong interactions between Au and Pd NPs making it easy to generate active oxygen species. Superoxide radicals can oxide the first hydroxyl group of 1,2-PDO to carboxyl group, while H 2 O 2 can easy caused C-C bond breaks and generate unwanted by-products. This work reveals a novel SERS enhancement mechanism of “satellite” structure. • Stable and uniform L-Au@ZIF-67@S-Au NPs were synthesized by self-assembly method. • L-Au@ZIF-67@S-Au NPs substrates was prepared with an enhancement factor of 3.4 × 10 6 . • Determination of fenpropathrin in citrus peel, and its LOD reached 0.995 μg/L. A new hybrid substrate of core-satellite plasma MOF, namely L-au @ ZIF-67 @ S au NPs, was developed in this study. The substrate aims to improve SERS performance by combining the molecular trapping layer of ZIF-67 with double electromagnetic hot spots distributed on the inner surface and the outer surface. The interface self-assembly strategy was adopted to combine MOF with plasma nanostructures, thus combining excellent molecular adsorption ability with strong local field enhancement effect. The results showed that the substrate had a low detection limit of 1.43 × 10 −10  M for rhodamine 6G, achieved rapid adsorption equilibrium within 10 min, and showed high signal reproducibility (relative standard deviation, RSD = 1.66%, n  = 20). The substrate was applied to the detection of fenpropathrin residues in citrus peels, showing good sensitivity, and the detection limit was 0.995 μg·L −1 , with an enhancement factor of 3.4 × 10 6 and excellent reproducibility. Xinran Yang,Zonglin Li,Junhui Du,Xueli Zhang,Haibin Liu,Xuechao Zhang,Lijun Li,Chuanjin Cui,Hongshuo Chen

In this paper, a SERS/electrochemical dual-channel aptamer biosensor was established for ultrasensitive detection of Pb 2+ . Firstly, the capture probe Fe 3 O 4 @Au@PAMAM@Aptamer and the signal probe AuNs@4-MBA@Au@ssDNA were chemically synthesized step by step. Secondly, the carboxyl graphene oxide (GO) was electrodeposited onto the electrode surface to gain the GO/SPCE. Meanwhile, PAMAM@Au nanomaterials were successfully synthesized and thus prepared the Aptamer/PAMAM@Au/GO/SPCE. During the process, SEM, TEM, FTIR and XPS were applied to characterize the synthesized nanomaterials which confirmed the successful synthesis of the nanomaterials. Finaly, the performance of this biosensor was evaluated in a series of Pb 2+ aqueous solutions by surface enhanced Raman (SERS) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The results showed that the lowest limit of detection (LOD) was 3.16 × 10 −5 nM, and the sample recovery was 99.50–103.67 %. Furthermore, the biosensor demonstrated good specificity, repeatability, and stability. Reliable results were also obtained in actual sample testing. Therefore, it can provide a viable method for trace detection of heavy metal ions.

Self-Cleaning Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) Platform: Hierarchical Au/Titanium (IV) Oxide/Au Nanoarchitecture for the Ultrasensitive and Recyclable Determination of Antibiotics

Xuemei Wang,Xue Zhang,Yunsheng Shang,Guohai Yang,Xin Zhang,Lu-Lu Qu,Yingqiu Gu

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a powerful tool for the rapid, real-time monitoring of trace aquatic pollutants. However, a major challenge persists in the development of SERS substrates capable of simultaneously determining and degrading pollutants. Herein, a highly sensitive Au/TiO2/Au sandwich-structured substrate was fabricated that exhibited excellent SERS performance with an enhancement factor (EF) of 1.05 × 107. Limits of detection (LODs) as low as 1.42 × 10−7 M for ofloxacin (OFL) and 1.26 × 10−9 M for trimethoprim (TMP) were achieved. Notably, the substrate retained stable SERS activity even after five consecutive detect-degrade cycles. By integrating plasmonic enhancement (for SERS detection) with photocatalytic degradation (for pollutant removal), this dual-functional platform demonstrated high reproducibility, with a relative standard deviation (RSD) below 6%, and long-term stability, retaining 60% of its initial SERS intensity after 60 days of storage. The strategy reported herein provides a practical approach for the simultaneous determination and degradation of antibiotics in aqueous matrices.

A sensitive biomimetic enzyme-linked immunoassay method based on Au@Pt@Au composite nanozyme label and molecularly imprinted biomimetic antibody for histamine detection

Xiaofeng Wang,Yongfeng Chen,Runze Yu,Ruiqiang Wang,Zhixiang Xu

In this paper, a sensitive biomimetic enzyme-linked immunoassay (BELISA) method based on an Au@Pt@Au composite nanozyme label was developed for histamine (HA) detection. A molecular imprinted polymer prepared directly on the 96-well plate served as a biomimetic antibody. A BELISA method was developed for HA standard solutions at concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 100.00 mg/L. Under optimal conditions, the novel BELISA method had a low limit of detection (0.069 mg/L) and high sensitivity (7.20 mg/L). The HA spiked in yellow rice wine and liqueur samples were detected by this BELISA method with the recoveries ranging from 84.28% to 108.82%. There was no significant difference of the results between the BELISA method and HPLC for the detection of HA in the red and white grape wine samples.

Plasmonic Au nanorods and irradiated PDA/Au nanorod composite used as modifier of the electron transport layer for PTB7:PC71BM polymer solar cells

Gao Xiuyuan,Yan Luting,Xu Runxiang,Sun Xiaotong

The local surface plasmon resonance effect of Au nanorods (AuNRs) can help improve the performance of polymer solar cells (PSCs). Polydopamine (PDA), as a new electron transfer layer (ETL) modifier, has also attracted attention. Electron beam irradiation can further control the molecular structure and morphology of PDA and optimize its binding with ZnO. In this study, AuNRs with different aspect ratios (ARs) were prepared by the seed growth method. Then, the AuNRs with different ARs were selected to modify the ZnO ETL of PSCs based on the inverted structure of PTB7:PC 71 BM. The short current density ( J sc) of the long AuNR-modified solar cell (AR = 4.18) reached 10.81 mA/cm 2 , and the PCE reached 4.57%. The PDA/AuNR composite films before and after electron beam irradiation were further used to modify the ZnO ETL. The J sc and PCE of the PDA/AuNR composite-modified device increased to 11.97 mA/cm 2 and 4.75%, respectively. The PCE of the device with 50 kGy-irradiated PDA/AuNR composite modifier reached 5.66%, which was 1.59 times of the device without PDA/AuNRs.
