Epinephrine (EP) is a catecholamine neurotransmitter produced from l -tyrosine (L-TY), which usually coexists with each other in biological fluids. Moreover, their abnormal concentrations are related to multiple diseases, so sensitive simultaneous determination of EP and l -TY is important. Herein, we delicately designed 3D SnS@Co ,N- C hierarchical hollow microrod assembled from 2D SnS nanoplates vertically anchored on the MOF derived cobalt, nitrogen co-doped carbon rod (Co ,N- C) as electrode materials using one-step hydrothermal method, followed by thermal annealing in N 2 , and accompanying sequential phase transformation (2D SnS 2 nanoplates in-situ reduced to SnS phase). Obtained hierarchical hollow carbon microrod with beneficial heteroatom doped not only provided sufficient electroactive sites, but also increased the conductivity of the materials. As-fabricated strongly coupled 3D SnS@Co ,N- C microrod displayed enhanced electrochemical performance, offering highly sensitive sensing responses toward biomolecules EP and L-TY. Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) study indicated that the sensor offered wide linear ranges of 0.01–300.0 and 0.01–250.0 μmol/L, and low detection limits of 3.3 and 3.1 nmol/L for EP and L-TY respectively. The constructed sensor was successfully applied to monitor simultaneously EP and L-TY in milk, human urine and serum samples with high accuracy and reliability.

In an O 2 -containing environment, achieving efficient selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) by carbon monoxide (CO) using non-noble metal catalysts remains a formidable challenge. To balance the catalytic oxidation of CO and the catalytic reduction of NOx, we need to develop a catalyst with strong reductibility and weak oxidizability for the CO selective catalytic reduction of NOx (CO-SCR) reaction in the presence of O 2 . In this study, we synthesized the CoCeOx-PVP catalyst via a coprecipitation method and employed various characterization techniques, including BET, SEM, XRD, Raman, XPS, H 2 -TPR, and O 2 -TPD. The analysis results indicate that the addition of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) alters the surface structure of the catalyst, increases the particle size, and enhances the concentration of surface oxygen vacancies. These structural effects facilitate electron circulation and accelerate the migration of oxygen species, thereby improving the catalytic reduction performance of the catalyst and increasing the conversion rate of NOx. At 250 °C and with 5 vol% O 2 , the conversion rates of NOx and CO can attain 98% and 96%, respectively, accompanied by a remarkable N 2 selectivity of 99%. Following a sustained reaction period of 6 h, the conversion efficiencies of both NOx and CO remain above 95%. However, during extended testing periods, as the oxygen vacancies are progressively occupied by O 2 , the oxygen vacancies generated through the reduction of NO with CO fall short of sustaining the CO-SCR reaction over the long haul. Subsequently, the oxidation reactions of NO and CO come to dominate, resulting in a decline in the NOx conversion rate. Notably, the CO conversion rate still maintains 100% at this point. Based on the results of in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (in situ DRIFTS) experiments, we proposed a reaction mechanism for the CO-SCR process over the CoCeOx-PVP catalyst under O 2 -containing conditions. This study provides an effective strategy for the application of non-noble metal catalysts in the field of CO-SCR. Although maintaining long-term activity of the catalyst remains a challenge in the presence of O 2 , the catalyst in this study exhibits a slower deactivation rate compared to traditional non-noble metal catalysts.

Catalyst deactivation caused by SO 2 poisoning generally hinders commercial viability of CO oxidation catalysts in the field of industrial flue gas purification. XPS results, CO-DRIFTS spectra and DFT calculations suggested that Pt was highly-dispersed and remained the oxidative states on SnO 2 support, resulting in that the rate-determining step of CO oxidation is to clean up the adsorbed CO and PtS 2 species is readily formed in a SO 2 -contained hydrothermal environment. It predominantly maintained metallic Pt 0 in the Pt/WO 3 catalyst, thereby led to cleaning up the activated oxygen atoms as the rate-determining step. It is very difficult to remove the sulfur species in SO 2 -poisoned catalysts within 600 °C and the mechanisms of CO oxidation are not affected by SO 2 poisoning for Pt/SnO 2 and Pt/WO 3 catalysts. These findings provide some significant insights to understand the mechanisms of CO oxidation and SO 2 -tolerance.

To develop high-performance catalysts for greenhouse gas CO 2 reforming with ethanol (EDR) is progressively inspired by the urgent requirement of CO 2 elimination in order to meet with the sustainable development. In this work, the bimetallic Co(Ni)/ZnO catalyst derived from MOFs was investigated in detail with a focus on the effect of Ni dopant. The EDR results indicated that the bimetallic Co(Ni)/ZnO catalyst presented better activity as well as less formation of byproducts in comparison with the monometallic Co/ZnO catalyst. 100% of ethanol conversion was obtained at 500 °C for Co(Ni)/ZnO versus 650 °C for Co/ZnO. Moreover, no acetone formation was observed over Co(Ni)/ZnO catalyst while the concentration of acetone in Co/ZnO was as high as 10 mol%. Characterization results depicted that the strong synergistic effect between Ni and Co in Co(Ni)/ZnO catalyst might greatly stabilize active metal cobalt with smaller particle size, improve the reducibility and facilitate the generation of oxygen defects, thereby enhancing the catalytic performance. To a certain extent, this work might contribute to the design of efficient catalysts for other catalytic applications. Graphical

ssDNA was employed to readily disperse reduced graphene oxide (RGO) to form ssDNA–RGO composites, which could be used as a superior support to expediently electrodeposit Pt to synthesize ssDNA–RGO/cotton-flower-like-Pt nanocomposites (ssDNA–RGO/cf-Pt). The formation of cotton-flower-like-Pt clusters was due to the assistance of nitrogen atoms and phosphate groups in ssDNA. The catalytic activity of the ssDNA–RGO/cf-Pt nanocomposite for methanol oxidation was 2.5 fold of RGO/Pt and 3.8 fold of commercial Pt NPs. The outstanding catalytic activity of this novel catalyst was attributed to the very large surface of the highly conductive ssDNA–RGO and cotton-flower-like-Pt clusters with an open structure. The latter was beneficial for mass transfer. In addition, the excellent ability of the ssDNA–RGO/cf-Pt nanocomposite against CO poisoning was found and the anti-poisoning ratio (If/Ib) of ssDNA–RGO/cf-Pt was 1.75 fold larger than those of RGO/Pt and commercial Pt NPs. The elevated oxidation of CO in the adsorption state may be due to ssDNA providing abundant oxygen groups as well as the residual oxygen species in the RGO. A possible mechanism for the improved catalytic activity and CO tolerance was deduced according to UV-visible, Raman, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) results.

Acetophenone is an important industrial intermediate and generally produced by the Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction, suffering from a low reactivity and serious equipment corrosion. Direct oxidation of ethylbenzene to acetophenone by molecular oxygen will be benign and cost-effective. The catalytic performance of NHPI/Co(II) herein was investigated by selective oxidation of ethylbenzene to acetophenone in different solvents at room temperature. The solvent hexafluoropropan-2-ol (HFIP) was found to markedly enhance the transformation efficiency from ethylbenzene to acetophenone in comparison with acetic acid, pyridine and ethanol, and the ethylbenzene conversion and the selectivity to acetophenone was high up to 87.9 % and 61.2 %, respectively. A higher concentration of phthalimide -N- oxyl (PINO) radicals was observed by an in situ electron paramagnetic resonance spectrometer (EPR) in HFIP with respect to other solvents, suggesting that HFIP may facilitate the generation of the N-oxyl radical and thus promote the selective oxidation of ethylbenzene to acetophenone. Furthermore, the benzylic carbon radical (PhCHCH 3 ) from ethylbenzene was trapped by tetramethylpiperidine N-oxyl radical (TEMPO) and observed by a high resolution mass spectrometer. The findings of both PINO and PhCHCH 3 under reaction conditions indicated that the selective oxidation of ethylbenzene to acetophenone catalyzed by NHPI/Co(II) should proceed via a radical mode. The selective oxidation of ethylbenzene to acetophenone using molecular oxygen by NHPI/Co(II) in HFIP exhibited an important industrial application prospect.

Capturing and utilization of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) not only leads to effective use of carbon resources, but also alleviates environmental pollution caused by increasing concentration of CO 2 , thus making it a hot research topic in recent years. In this study, a series of highly dispersed iron-cobalt (Fe-Co) catalysts was prepared by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA-2Na) modification, which could efficiently convert CO 2 into high value-added chemicals (C 2 -C 4 = and C 5 -C 11 ). X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that the addition of a small amount of Co and EDTA-2Na contributed to enhance the sintering resistance of Fe species. During the calcination process, EDTA 4− can be decomposed into small organic molecules with reducibility, thus promoting the reduction of iron species. The CO temperature-programmed desorption (CO-TPD) results showed that cobalt enhanced the adsorption and activation of intermediate CO on Na x Fe-Co catalyst, thereby promoting the catalytic conversion of CO 2 . The complexation of EDTA promotes the synergistic effect of Fe-Co bimetals, enhances the chemical adsorption of CO 2 . Sodium in EDTA-2Na promotes the surface basicity of the catalysts, which is favored for improving the product distribution of hydrocarbons. At lower H 2 /CO 2 (1/1) ratio, the EDTA-2Na modified Fe-Co/Al 2 O 3 catalyst exhibited high conversion of CO 2 (32.8 %) and excellent selectivity toward high value-added chemicals. The selectivity of by-product CO was only 8.1 %; and C 2 -C 4 = (32.5 %) and C 5 -C 11 (46.3 %) accounted for ∼79 % selectivity among the hydrocarbons generated.

It is of great practical significance to explore and prepare cheap, high-performance, and stable catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), but it is still in progress at present. Herein, a straightforward evaporation–pyrolysis strategy is designed for the preparation of 3D porous electrocatalysts (denoted as \(\textrm{Fe}-\textrm{Co}-\textrm{NC}\) , which represented carbonization products at °C) made of carbon nanoparticles combined with metallic Fe-Co-doped N-enriched bridged carbon nanotube by carbonization of a pristine ZIF8 as highly efficient and durable ORR electrocatalysts. The obtained Fe–Co–NC structure possesses 3D open porous texture, abundant active sites, desired nitrogen bonding type, and high specific surface area, providing them with excellent ORR activity. The optimal performing \(\textrm{Fe}-\textrm{Co}-\textrm{NC}\) catalyst presents an outstanding ORR performance in terms of a high onset potential ( \(\textrm{E}_{\text{ onset } }\) ) of 0.96 V (vs. RHE) and half-wave potential ( \(\textrm{E}_{1 / 2}\) ) of 0.86 V (vs. RHE), respectively, possible to rival those of the commercially available \(\textrm{Pt} / \textrm{C}\) in an alkaline electrolyte solution. Besides, the \(\textrm{Fe}-\textrm{Co}-\textrm{NC}\) catalyst manifests better stability than those of commercially available \(\textrm{Pt} / \textrm{C}\) , which is of importance for the optimization and characterization of novel electrocatalysts originated from non-precious metals.

Lactate-intercalated Co–Fe layered double hydroxides (LDHs) were successfully prepared by coprecipitation and hydrothermal method. In this process, divalent metal ions as precursors can be obtained from the reduction reaction of lactic acid and metal powder (cobalt and ferrous). In order to obtain Fe 3+ , H 2 O 2 (30%) was used to oxidize Fe 2+ . Meanwhile, the produced lactate was intercalated into the LDHs interlayers to compensate the positively charged layers. The as-synthesized LDHs were studied by element chemical analysis, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravitry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), TEM. The results indicated that the basal spacing value of the LDHs was larger than that of lactate-intercalated Mg–Al or Zn–Al LDHs. It proved that the lactate anions were inserted into the gallery in the form of dimers which made it easy to be delaminated in water. The obtained nanosheets were deposited on the substrates to form the film which was characterized by TEM and AFM, and infrared emissivity value (8–14 μm) was also investigated. The infrared emissivity values of Co–Fe LDHs were lower than that of Zn–Al which took advantage of the special electronic structure in Co and Fe. Besides, the orderly structure and the reduction of the interfacial deficiency of the film made the values further reduced.

Biomass, derived from plant photosynthesis that captures carbon dioxide to form carbohydrates, offers vast renewable reserves. The electrooxidation of biomass, coupled with the hydrogen evolution reaction, enables the simultaneous production of biomass-based plastic monomers and green hydrogen, attracting significant scholarly interest. However, ambiguity remains regarding the adsorption mechanism at the catalyst surface (Langmuir-Hinshelwood or Eley-Rideal) and the adsorbed substrate groups. To address this, we prepared a Ni/Co electrode for the electrooxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) into 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) through a corrosion reaction and electro-reduction pathway. HMF conversion reached 100.00%, FDCA yield reached 96.82%, and Faradic efficiency (FE) reached 92.14%. Meaningfully, utilizing in-situ spectroscopy and electrochemical methods, this work provided valuable insights into active sites and catalyst surface adsorption.

A general palladium and silver co-catalyzed denitrogenative carbonylation of benzotriazoles for the synthesis of benzoxazin-4-ones has been developed. Employing benzotriazoles as easily accessible substrates and Cr(CO)6 as bench-stable solid carbonyl sources, various benzoxazin-4-ones were synthesized through a ring-opening/denitrogenative/carbonylation cascade processes in moderate to good yields. Notably, this protocol avoids the use of toxic CO gas and special equipment and can also be applied to the late-stage functionalization of substrates derived from the uricosuric agent probenecid.

Single - atom catalysts (SACs) have attracted extensive attention because of their high atomic utilization and superior catalytic activity. Herein, single - atom Co has anchored on the β - ketoenamine - linked covalent organic framework (Tp-Tta COF) pores and used for remarkable photocatalytic hydrogen(H 2 ) production under Ultraviolet – Visible light (UV – Vis light) irradiation. The single - atom Co is visualized by the aberration - corrected high - angle annular dark - field scanning transmission electron microscopy (AC HAADF - STEM), and the C 3 – Co – N 1 coordination structure is demonstrated by X - ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) measurements. The modified Co 0.4 -SAC/Tp-Tta COF shows a high photocatalytic H 2 production of 1798.5 μmol g −1 h −1 and the Apparent quantum yield(AQY) is 3.02% at 420 nm. The improvement of the activity and stability of the photocatalyst is mainly attributed to the incorporation of Co single-atom that boosts the separation efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pair and provides well - dispersed active sites. This study provides valuable insights into the development of UV–Vis light-responsive photocatalysts at the atomic level.
