Graphene oxide (GO) lamellar membranes exhibit great potential for application in molecular separation. However, they are still limited by low water permeation and swelling effects. Here, we develop robust K + -crosslinked reduced GO (rGO–K + ) membranes for treating wastewater containing multivalent heavy metal ions. The rGO–K + membranes demonstrated a water permeance of 86.1 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 and a rejection rate of 99.8% for FeCl 3 , which exceed the corresponding values of state-of-the-art nanofiltration (NF) membranes for multivalent metal ion rejection. Further, the rGO–K + membranes exhibited excellent aqueous stability under a high pressure (up to 9 bar) and acidic, neutral, and alkaline conditions. The improved permeability of the rGO–K + membranes was attributed to the cation–π interactions between K + and the rGO sheets, which fixed and enlarged the interlayer spacing, as well as increased the surface hydrophilicity, thus weakening the water transport resistance. The intercalated K + linked the adjacent layers through the cation–π interactions, which enhanced the membrane stability. The prepared rGO–K + membranes have potential for use in membrane separation in industrial applications.

The abnormal accumulation of purine metabolites, such as adenine (A) and hypoxanthine (Hx), is closely associated with the pathogenesis of hyperuricemia and gout, underscoring the urgent need for precise methodologies enabling their simultaneous detection. To overcome the inherent limitations of conventional analytical techniques and resolve the challenge of overlapping voltammetric signatures in electrochemical sensing, this study presents an integrated analytical strategy encompassing an advanced sensing platform, sophisticated signal processing, and intelligent data analytics. A glassy carbon electrode modified with carboxymethyl cellulose-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CMC-fMWCNTs/GCE) serves as the foundation for highly sensitive detection. Crucially, the application of half-order derivative voltammetry effectively resolves the overlapping oxidation peaks of A and Hx, thereby enhancing analytical selectivity. Complementing this, a K -means clustering algorithm is employed to enable automated, data-driven assessment of sensing stability. These components are integrated into a web-based intelligent system that automates the complete analytical workflow, from raw data ingestion to quantitative concentration readout. The proposed system exhibits a broad linear dynamic range (0.08–80 μM), low limits of detection (0.062 μM for A and 0.075 μM for Hx), and high analytical reproducibility (relative standard deviation < 5%), while streamlining the analytical process. Collectively, this work not only achieves the precise synchronous quantification of A and Hx but also establishes a transferable analytical framework for the intelligent analysis of small molecules with analogous structural features.

A novel fluorine-modified polyimide aerogel (FPIA) was proposed via stepwise gelation. • The dual role of fluorine was revealed in refining hierarchical pore structure and suppressing phonon transport. • FPIA achieved a 60% reduction in thermal conductivity to 0.0211 W/(m·K). • FPIA exhibited wide-frequency ultralow dielectric constant and ultralow dielectric loss. • FPIA provides a viable material strategy for extreme-environment thermal and electrical management. Polyimide (PI) aerogels have shown promising applications in aerospace and microelectronics due to their excellent thermal stability and low density. However, the simultaneous achievement of thermal insulation and ultralow dielectric constant is extremely challenging, as the optimal nanostructures for these two properties often conflict. In this study, a new type of fluorine-modified PI aerogel (FPIA) was developed by introducing fluorine-containing monomers into the molecular chain and generating nano-sized multi-level pore structures through a stepwise gelation strategy, which enabled systematic control over the density, shrinkage, and nanoporous structure. The introduced fluorine groups not only effectively refined the pore structure but also significantly reduced the thermal conductivity of the material by enhancing the scattering of phonons by inhibiting the main thermal conductive pathway of lattice vibration. The prepared aerogel, featuring a high specific surface area (>300 m 2 /g) and a multi-level pore structure, achieves a synergistically balanced comprehensive performance via multi-objective trade-off optimization: the room-temperature thermal conductivity is reduced by approximately 60%, down to 0.0211 W/(m·K), and the dielectric constant is stable at approximately 1.22 within a 4–18 GHz wide frequency range and ultralow dielectric loss of approximately 0.005. This research not only provides a feasible preparation strategy for high-performance PI aerogels but also reveals the key role of fluorine modification in synergistically enhancing insulation and dielectric properties, laying the application foundation for the development of new-generation extreme environment thermal-electric management materials.

Targeted tuning of defect density in carbon-based photocatalysts is a key strategy to improve their photocatalytic performance. However, the current methods for intrinsic carbon defect sites construction are commonly with harsh conditions and costly materials, it is significant to develop more greener and cost-effective methods. In addition, the structure-activity relationship between the structural defects of material and photocatalytic performance was ambiguous up to now. Herein, a K + -assisted synthetic strategy was developed to synthesize porous carbon-based geopolymer micros (rpsBC-GPs 2 ) with abundant intrinsic defects using papermaking sludge as the precursor. And a mechanistic insight was given for explaining why the K + -induced defect density tuning made rpsBC-GPs 2 exhibit high photocatalytic activity . The introduction of K + changed the crystal structure of Quartz, calcite and pyrrhotite on the catalyst surface and promote the generation of lattice defects . The abundant lattice defects and sp 3 carbon defects of rpsBC-GPs 2 were evidenced with X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction, and scanning transmission electron microscopy measurements. In the photocatalytic process, the photogenerated electrons was driven to capture dissolved oxygen and form ·O 2, because the conduction position of rpsBC-GPs 2 was higher than the potential of O 2 /O 2 − (−0.33 eV). In addition, the high-conductive biochar play a role of “electron shuttle” in the photocatalytic process, which promoted the electrons transfer from CB to O 2 . Therefore, the production efficiency of reactive ·O 2 − was improved, and promoted the aromatization reaction process of tetracycline (TC). In this study, an industrial waste paper sludge was utilized to synthesize the active photocatalyst, and a new strategy was proposed for the photocatalytic performance evaluation, through targeted tuning of defect density in carbon-based photocatalysts using K + as activator.

Water activities of the CsCl–MgCl2–H2O ternary system and its sub-binary systems were elaborately measured by an isopiestic method at 298.15 K. The solubility of this ternary system at 298.15 K was also measured by two different methods, namely isothermal method and Flow-Cloud-Point method. The solubilities measured by the two different methods were consistent with each other. A Pitzer model was used to represent the thermodynamic properties and calculate the solubility isotherms for the CsCl–MgCl2–H2O ternary system at 298.15 K. Both the equal water activity lines and the solubility isotherms are calculated with parameters reported in literature. It was found that only the calculated equal water activity lines with the parameters reported by Scharge et al. are consistent with the experimental values of this work. However, all the calculated solubility isotherms deviated from the experimental data in this work. New set of ternary parameters were obtained by fitting the water activities and solubility data of this work. Using the new parameters, the calculated equal water activity lines and solubility isotherms agreed with experimental values measured in this work.

Brown corundum dust ash(BCFA) is an industrial solid waste from the brown corundum production process. The alkali metal is a key factor limiting its comprehensive use. Currently, BCFA is mainly stockpiled and occupies a large amount of land. Its fine particles are easy to cause air pollution. The addition of NH4HSO4 allows for the effective extraction of K from BCFA and the efficient use of BCFA. Under optimum conditions: NH4HSO4 to BCFA mass ratio of 1.2:1, the roasting temperature of 240 °C, roasting time of 2 h, water leaching time of 90 min, water leaching temperature of 65 °C water leaching liquid to solid ratio of 3:1, the leaching rate of K from BCFA reached 97%. The leachate was crystallised by evaporation to obtain K, N compound fertiliser for agricultural use. The leaching residue is mainly Al and Si, which can be used for the preparation of refractory materials, aluminium and silicon molecular sieves, construction materials and other raw materials.

The passivation of a graphite electrode in LiF–KF molten salt at 773 K was studied using cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The anodic cyclic voltammogram showed that there are two oxidation current peaks at approximately 1.2 and 4.8 V vs. Pt quasi-reference electrode. We confirmed that carbon fluoride compounds are formed at the first current peak, while the last current peak was predominantly attributed to F2 evolution. The surfaces of the anodes used for electrolysis were analyzed at the potential of 1.0 V by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy, and the anode atmosphere during the experiments was analyzed by gas chromatography. The results show that solid carbon fluoride compounds were formed in the graphite surface and no trace of gaseous carbon fluoride was detected. In addition, the active–passive transition of graphite electrode was observed in the EIS spectra recorded at 1.5 V. We confirmed the reason for the passivation of a graphite anode in LiF–KF molten salt: the formed carbon fluoride compounds layer blocks the transmission of F− anion from the electrolyte to the graphite electrode.

Acidic electrochemical CO 2 reduction (CO 2 RR) typically requires K + ions to create a local H + -depleted microenvironment, suppressing competing hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Excessive localized K + causes salt precipitation, compromising electrolysis stability. Achieving stable operation with high Faradaic efficiency (FE) at low K + concentrations remains a crucial challenge for conventional nanomaterials. Inspired by water-trapping function of sponges, we design a three-dimensional interconnected porous cubic SnO 2 electrocatalyst (SnO 2 sponge) that confines OH – within porous channels to consume proton influx from the bulk, enabling durable acidic CO 2 RR towards formic acid (HCOOH). Theoretical and experimental studies reveal the SnO 2 sponge sustains substantially higher OH – concentration than dispersed SnO 2 nanoparticles. At pH 1.82, the SnO 2 sponge achieves 94.5% FE HCOOH at 800 mA cm –2 . With only 0.075 M K + , it retains 95.2% FE HCOOH at 400 mA cm –2 . Notably, it enables continuous HCOOH production at 400 mA cm –2 with 97.7% FE HCOOH for over 390 h without cleaning. This work provides a promising strategy for durable and efficient CO 2 RR in acidic media with low K + concentrations.

In this work, the isothermal solution equilibrium method was used to examine the phase equilibrium of a ternary LiCl–LiBr–CH 3 OH system at 273 and 323 K. The solubilities of LiCl and LiBr in CH 3 OH at different temperatures were measured by chemical analysis. The chemical composition of the equilibrium solid phase was determined via the wet slag method combined with X-ray diffraction. Thus, the corresponding phase diagram was created, and the LiCl–LiBr–CH 3 OH and LiCl–LiBr–H 2 O ternary systems were compared at different temperatures. The results showed that the phase diagram characteristics of the LiCl–LiBr–CH 3 OH ternary system at 273 and 323 K were similar, with a saturation point, two univariable solubility curves and two solid phase crystallization zones; these zones represented the Li(Cl,Br) solid solution crystallization zone and LiCl single salt crystallization zone. The single salt of LiCl can be separated using crystallization filtration. LiBr has a salt-out effect on LiCl, but LiBr cannot be obtained. With increasing temperature, the contents of LiCl and LiBr at the saturation point of the LiCl–LiBr–CH 3 OH ternary system increase, and the solubilities of LiCl and LiBr in methanol gradually increase.

The chemical transformation of carbon dioxide (CO2) not only reduces the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the Earth’s atmosphere by humans, but also produces carbon compounds that can be used as precursors for chemical and fuel production. Herein, a selective catalytic conversion of carbon dioxide to methanol is achieved by a bifunctional molybdenum disulfide catalyst (MoS2) with magnesium oxide and nickel and potassium promoters. Molybdenum disulfide prepared by the supercritical ethanol method has a large specific surface area and presents good catalytic performance with high methanol selectivity when loaded with potassium (K) and nickel (Ni) promoters. In addition, the catalysts were evaluated and it was founded that the addition of the K-promoter improved methanol selectivity. This research provides a new strategy for improved product selectivity and space–time yield (STY) of methanol in CO2hydrogenation.Keywords:CO2hydrogenation;molybdenum disulfide;methanol

Introduction Ginsenoside compound K (CK) has effects on cell-cycle regulation, tumor growth inhibition, and apoptosis induction. However, it has limited applications in clinical settings because of its low solubility and poor absorption. Methods To overcome these limitations, we aimed to develop a mixed micellar system composed of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine polyethylene glycol 2000 (DSPE PEG 2000; DP). CK encapsulated in PC/DP mixed micelles had enhanced solubility, permeability, and retention effects. Results Compared to free CK, the CK PC/DP micellar system exhibited improved anticancer effects in vitro, including cell-cycle arrest, apoptosis, and anti-invasion in human lung carcinoma A549 cells. The significant proapoptotic effect was reflected by increased chromosomal condensation, annexin V/propidium iodide staining, and related protein expression. In vitro cellular uptake and optical mouse imaging in vivo suggested that the improved antitumor effect was caused primarily by enhanced uptake and tumor targeting. Furthermore, an in vivo antitumor efficacy study indicated that the CK mixed micelles significantly inhibited tumor growth, thereby decreasing tumor volume at the end of the experiment as compared with that in the control mice. Histological analysis confirmed the antitumor effect with low toxicity. Conclusion The PC/DP micellar system was an effective drug delivery system for CK in tumor therapy.

The Cre/lox system is a fundamental tool for functional genomic studies, and a number of Cre lines have been generated to target genes of interest spatially and temporally in defined cells or tissues; this approach has greatly expanded our knowledge of gene functions. However, the limitations of this system have recently been recognized, and we must address the challenge of so-called nonspecific/off-target effects when a Cre line is utilized to investigate a gene of interest. For example, cathepsin K (Ctsk) has been used as a specific osteoclast marker, and Cre driven by its promoter is widely utilized for osteoclast investigations. However, Ctsk-Cre expression has recently been identified in other cell types, such as osteocytes, periosteal stem cells, and tenocytes. To better understand Ctsk-Cre expression and ensure appropriate use of this Cre line, we performed a comprehensive analysis of Ctsk-Cre expression at the single-cell level in major organs and tissues using two green fluorescent protein (GFP) reporters (ROSA nT-nG and ROSA tdT) and a tissue clearing technique in young and aging mice. The expression profile was further verified by immunofluorescence staining and droplet digital RT-PCR. The results demonstrate that Ctsk-Cre is expressed not only in osteoclasts but also at various levels in osteoblast lineage cells and other major organs/tissues, particularly in the brain, kidney, pancreas, and blood vessels. Furthermore, Ctsk-Cre expression increases markedly in the bone marrow, skeletal muscle, and intervertebral discs in aging mice. These data will be valuable for accurately interpreting data obtained from in vivo studies using Ctsk-Cre mice to avoid potentially misleading conclusions. © 2022 The Authors.
